Daisy had wanted the first people they told about the baby to be her parents. However, she soon realized that wouldn't be possible when they docked Z3 back at base and they would have to explain to Mack why she and Daniel wouldn't be returning to space anytime soon.
The greeting they got when they disembarked was a joyful one, and soon the crew had been swept off to celebrate their return. Debrief could wait until tomorrow.
Except for Daisy and Daniel who headed straight to the Director's office.
"You ready?" Daniel asked, pausing outside the door.
"Not really," Daisy admitted, but reached out and knocked anyway. Her feelings of anxiety grew when she heard Mack's voice call for them to come in.
As excited as she was to share their news with their family, there was still that part of her that feared rejection. She knew it was ridiculous. Of course they would be excited for them, but she couldn't help the anxiety that threated to overwhelm her as she pushed the door open and saw Mack and Yoyo inside.
"Tremors," Mack stood, smiling widely as he walked around his desk to embrace her. "It is good to see you. Both of you." He shook Sousa's hand as he spoke.
"Good to see you guys too," Daisy said, hugging Yoyo tightly as well.
"How are you?" Yoyo asked, pulling back, "How is space?"
"Space is good, really good," Daisy said, "Though it is nice to be back."
"Yeah, you say that now," Mack teased, "I give you a week before you're itching to head back out."
"I give 'em two days," Yoyo tossed in with a smile."
"Actually," Daisy glanced nervously at Daniel who smiled at her reassuringly. "We needed to talk to you about that."
Mack looked concerned but gestured for them to sit down as he and Yoyo retook their seats.
"We, um, we really loved being out there," Daisy started, "But, um, we don't… we can't…"
"We won't be able to return to space for a while," Daniel supplied, and Daisy shot him a grateful look.
"Is everything alright?" Yoyo asked.
Daisy opened and closed her mouth several times, trying to make the words come. She didn't understand why she was so anxious about telling them.
"Tremors."
Daisy looked up and saw Mack's calm expression, his smile warm. That look finally gave her the courage to say it.
"I'm pregnant."
There was a brief pause before Mack was back around the desk and had swept her up into another hug that lifted her off her feet.
Daisy laughed, tears of relief threatening to spill over.
"Congratulations," Mack murmured, finally releasing his hold on her, only for Yoyo to sweep her up as well.
"Congratulations," Mack said again, clapping Sousa on the back.
"Thanks," Daniel smiled, watching Daisy as she and Yoyo pulled apart.
"Nervous to tell us, eh?" Yoyo teased gently as Daisy wiped her tears away.
"Yeah," Daisy laughed shakily, stepping back and straight into Daniel's embrace. "Just wasn't sure what you guys would say."
"Come on, how could we be anything other than excited?" Yoyo asked and Daisy laughed shakily again, though she wouldn't look at them.
"Tremors," Mack said softly, and she finally met his eyes. "I know how hard things have… But this? This is really damn good."
She smiled, "Yeah, it is. It's really, really good."
I adore the sibling relationship Mack and Daisy have and figured Mack would definitely be super excited to become an uncle again!
