A/N: Thank you guys for reading and leaving sweet comments. I start theatre camp tomorrow, but I'll try to keep updating. If you have any auditioning tips, leave them in the comments. I can't wait. I haven't been in a musical since 2019. I love straight plays, but my heart will always be with musical theatre. We're doing 'Once Upon a Mattress Junior.' Anyway, on with the chapter!
"Maybe they misinterpreted the vision," Mirabel said. "It could be like the vision he had about me. The one he had where it looked like I caused the Casita to collapse. I'm sure Dolores will be able to explain everything."
"There are two visions, Mira," Antonio said.
"Two visions that could be completely wrong," Mirabel argued.
"Let's just keep going," Luisa said. "We might be too late for Isabela, but we might not be too late for Camilo and Dolores."
That's when they heard a scream in the distance.
"I have a plan," Valeria declared.
"What is it?" Camilo asked.
"Just trust me," Valeria said. The man entered the tiny room. He didn't have any time to explain why he was there. Valeria kneed him in the crotch. She then elbowed him in the head. Valeria took his gun from the holster when he was on the ground. She ran outside. "Camilo y Dolores, corran mientras los distraigo."
Dolores helped Camilo get up. "We'll meet up in the woods," Valeria explained. In the chaos, the siblings left the cell.
"Milo, do you think you're good to walk?" Dolores asked.
"I can try," Camilo said. "You have the best chance of getting away. Your chances of escaping go down a lot if you worry about me. Save yourself. Mamá needs at least one of us to come home."
Dolores couldn't believe it. Camilo was only sixteen, but he was willing to sacrifice himself. These are not thoughts that someone his age should be having. He might be up to make that sacrifice, but she wasn't. "We're getting out of this together," Dolores promised. "Ya perdí a alguien que amo aquí. No perderé a nadie más."
The two started walking forward. Camilo's arm draped over Dolores's shoulders. "The puta got away," a guard yelled.
"Yes," Dolores whispered. Their freedom was so close. They would come back for Isabela's body. She would get a proper burial. However, it wasn't safe to transport it now. Dolores also couldn't carry both of them.
Dolores let out a yelp when a hand wrapped around her neck. A gun was pressed into her temple. Camilo fell onto the floor as she was pulled into a hard chest. "Let her go," Camilo shrieked.
"Don't move, puta," the man demanded. "I've got two of them."
A group of guards approached them. "Roughin the boy up," the man demanded. They started to punch and kick Camilo. Dolores struggled in her kidnapper's grip. "Your punishment will be coming soon."
One of the men stomped on Camilo's head. After that, they were done. A wave of helplessness hit Dolores as she saw his bloody face. He wouldn't be here if it weren't for me. I should have been more careful. Abuela always cautioned us about helping people from beyond the mountains. Isabela is dead because of me.
They were dragged to a whole. "Climb inside, or I'll blow her brains out," the man threatened. Camilo stepped into the hole, noticing there was a coffin. He laid inside after letting out a small scream. Inside the container was Isabela's decomposing corpse.
The coffin was closed. Dolores was shoved to the ground. She was handed a shovel. The guards had gone back to their post. "Start filling up the hole," he commanded. The gun was held to the back of her head.
There was a dirt pile beside the hole. She stood up and started to fill up the hole. "Lo Siento mucho," Dolores sobbed. At least death would come quickly for him. Isabela went quickly. She didn't care what would become of her.
"Don't worry," the man said. "I won't let you die for a long time. You're gonna live with this."
Dolores smacked him in the head with the shovel. He collapsed to the ground, bleeding from the head. Dolores stood up, running the shovel into his neck. His blood splattered across her face. She kept going until his head was clean off. "I can get used to this view," Dolores taunted.
She turned her attention back to the hole. Before she could start unburying them, she was hit in the head. She collapsed to the ground, passing out. She heard a familiar voice as her world went black. "Julieta, what the fuck?" Bruno asked, finally catching up to his family.
Camilo y Dolores, corran mientras los distraigo; Camilo and Dolores, run while I distract them.
Ya perdí a alguien que amo aquí. No perderé a nadie más; I lost someone I love here already. I won't be losing anyone else.
Lo siento mucho; I am so sorry
