Goodbye

"Asami. Are you sure this is what you want?" Korra asked while fighting back the tears. "Korra. This is an amazing opportunity. Something like this happens once in a lifetime. I have to. Future industries is at stake. After what my father did, I have a chance to right some of his wrongs. To help some of the ones he screwed over. " "Alright. I hope you are happy then. And everything goes like you want. You deserve nothing but the best and whatever you do you'll be amazing," taking a deep steading breath Korra gave her one last kiss on the cheek, "I just want you to be happy. Goodbye Asami." Walking past her she left the apartment they had shared. And went out into the rain.

One year later.

Asami was sitting at her desk. She turned to the massive floor to ceiling windows. She found herself thinking about Korra again. She'd been doing that alot lately. Every time she stopped working, or just wasn't busy in general, she thought about her. 'I do hope she is ok.' She packed up her things, and went to her bright red sports car and drove home.

Sitting on her couch, sipping her glass of scotch, Asami stared at the phone in her hand. She'd realized six months ago she never gave Korra her new number when she left. By then she thought to herself that it would be much too late to call her now. But maybe, maybe the fact that she had been thinking about her so much lately meant something.

Downing her scotch in one go, she took a deep breath and typed the familier number. She held her breath when she heard the ringing. Three rings later, she heard the answering machine pick up.

'If your calling 'bout the car, I sold it. If it's Tuesday night, I'm gonna be bowling. If you've got something to sell, you're wasting your time. I'm not buying. If it's anybody else, wait for the tone, you know what to do. Oh, and ps if this is Asami, I still love you.'

Asami dropped the phone! Shock! That was all she felt. Korra still loved her. Even after all this time! Even after abandoning her, going radio silent for a year, she still loved her. She felt the tears running down her cheeks. This had meant something. This was fate, the universe, god, whatever trying to tell her where she needed to be. That kind of love only comes along once in a life. So she came up with a plan.

Three days later

She had waited three days. It was now Friday and as it was the early evening, she crossed her fingers and dialed the number again.

Three rings later, she got the answering machine again. 'If it's Friday night, I'm at the ball game. Oh, and first thing Saturday, if it don't rain, i'm headed out to the lake, i'll be gone all weekend long. But I'll call you back when I get home, on Sunday afternoon. Ps if the is Asami, I still love you.'

She left her phone number. That was all. Then she waited.

Sunday afternoon

Asami had been waiting for six hours now. The phone still hadn't rung. But she would continue to wait. She knew she needed to talk to her. To tell Korra the truth. And all she could do was wait until she called.

She was just staring to nod off as her phone started to ring. Anxiously she snatched it up and pushed the accept button.

"Hello?" Was all Asami heard. Deciding in an instant what to say, "If your calling bout my heart, it's still yours. I should have listened to it a little more. Then it wouldn't have taken me so long to know where I belong. And by the way, can't you tell, Korra, this is no machine your talking to. Can't you tell, this is Asami. And I still love you."

"Well I hope you know that I still love you. And I always will."

"I do honey. I'll be home soon."

Monday Evening

Korra was nervous. She had waited for this day for a year. For Asami to reach out to her. To hear the messages she'd been leaving for the past year. Bolin and Opal and tried to get her to stop. But she stayed firm. She loved her too much to lose her. And now, she was waiting for her to come to the apartment they had shared. She was nervous, but she was exstatic as well.

She heard someone knock ever so lightly. It sounded like a nervous knock. Her walk to the door, normally only took seconds. This time felt like hours, maybe even days. When she finally reached it her hand was shaking as she grabbed the handle. Twisting the knob, she opened the door, And there before her eyes was the most glorious sight. Asami. Looking as beautiful as ever. Jade green eyes and aburn hair. Tight black jeans and a nice white blouse. Red pumps. God, she was just a perfect as ever, and Korra felt her mouth go dry, and felt like she was drooling. Weird, but oh god she was here.

"Hey there honey. I'm home….."
