Hello, everyone! This is my first story which I just wrote for fun. Please feel free to read if you're interested!
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto
The sun is up, the birds are chirping, and the sound of people chatting outside can already be heard. The blonde knucklehead ninja, still half-asleep, slowly opened his eyes. He still did not want to leave the comfort of his bed but his growling stomach made him stand up and head toward the kitchen.
Scanning the hallways and the dining area, Naruto wondered where his wife went but then remembered that she told him last night that she will be buying some groceries. She did not want to miss the end-of-season sale. His wife, though grew up in a prestigious clan, still values money hence, takes advantage of events where there are big discounts and sales.
As the blonde's stomach cried for immediate satisfaction, he turned down the idea of eating instant ramen as he was not in the mood to wait for 3 minutes for it to be cooked. Therefore, he opened the fridge and reached out for the first edible thing that he found – a cinnamon roll.
The lone cinnamon roll did not fully satiate him but what obliterated his hunger was something else. Naruto paused for a moment and just stared in the air. Then he slowly opened the fridge again to check the contents, there was no cinnamon roll left.
Naruto knew how his wife loved cinnamon rolls that's why he cannot fathom how she would react after going home from an exhausting battle at the grocery store only to find out that the blonde ate the last piece of her precious snack. He stared again in the air, his arms started to get cold, and his lips began to dry up. Just the idea of making his wife upset sent shivers to his skin.
Should he just use his famous talk no jutsu on his wife? Naruto pondered. As he was currently in an internal battle with himself, he thought of a brilliant plan. He formed a hand sign, and all of a sudden, two clones appeared in front of Naruto. However, the clones did not look very helpful to the current predicament. One appeared curled up on the ground with fists hitting it while consistently muttering "Damn it, damn it." Meanwhile, the second one had his shoulders down, his eyes void of sparks while he stared into space. "Come on guys," said the original Naruto. "I did not summon you to be miserable with me, I needed your help to get me out of this mess."
After a few minutes of encouraging the clones, the three now finally sat in a circle form on the ground. "Okay, let's get started," exclaimed Naruto. "Now give me ideas on how to make up for the lost cinnamon," he added. "Boss, just kiss her. Maybe she'll be satisfied with the taste of the cinnamon on your lips," clone 1 smirked. Abruptly, clone 2 slapped the other clone, maybe a bit too hard, and *poof* it disappeared.
Naruto sighed and wondered if that was how other people viewed him, was he that bad? Naruto formed the shadow clone sign and another clone appeared. "You better be useful," Naruto told the third clone. The third one showed the famous Naruto grin and put his right thumb up, "You bet, boss!"
"You haven't heard my idea yet, boss." Clone 2 said confidently.
"Go ahead," Naruto replied.
"Why don't we bake Ms. Hime a cinnamon roll? The bakeshop is currently closed and she will appreciate it more if we bake one ourselves."
"Nice idea but we all know I cannot bake," Naruto sighed
"Didn't Ms. Hime buy a ton of cookbooks? Check them out!" exclaimed Clone 3
"Okay fine. While I do that, pull out all baking ingredients from the cupboard and fridge." Naruto stood up and went towards the room where his wife kept all their books.
As Naruto skimmed through the books on the shelf, he was deeply moved by what he came across. He cannot find a single cookbook about cinnamon rolls, instead, what was in front of him were several guides on how to cook his favorite food, ramen. Naruto's lips curled up a bit as he thought about his loving wife and how she cared for him. She always placed his happiness first before hers. What did he do to deserve the kindness and love of his wife? Was he deserving? Is he doing enough to reciprocate his wife's affection? Several thoughts wandered in the mind of the blonde. He clenched his fists and put a determined look on his face.
"Come on guys, let's make her happy!" Naruto exclaimed to his clones. With his determination, he knew he can do anything, he's the no.1 unpredictable ninja after all! And so he thought his willpower alone can solve the problem.
"Okay, boss we just guessed, but the flour, butter, sugar, cinnamon powder, yeast, and egg are already out. What do we do next?" Clone 3 asked.
"Let's just mix them all up!" Naruto said.
The three excitedly prepared the ingredients and started mixing them all up, not caring about the order of the procedure. Their delight started to plummet as they realized that what they were doing did not look like cinnamon rolls, not even close.
"Boss, I thought we were making cinnamon rolls for Ms. Hime. This looks like flour soup with sugar!" Clone 2 started to panic, and as he did, he accidentally knocked out the powder, and the floor suddenly looked like a white sea.
"What are you doing?!" Clone 3 got mad at Clone 2 and hit him with a raw egg. Surprisingly, Clone 2 did not disappear but instead, fell on his butt, onto the powdered floor.
Naruto was already getting disheartened by what was happening in front of him when he heard a knock on the door.
"She's here!" Naruto wanted to cry as he went toward the door. As he turned on the knob, he silently prayed that the 2 clones miraculously make a cinnamon roll appear. However, who stood in front of the door was not what he expected.
"Sasuke!" He was a bit too happy to see his rival and best friend.
Sasuke did not utter a word and instead scanned the house of his blonde friend. Powder all over the floor, egg shells and other liquid he was not interested in scattered everywhere, a clone doing a snow angel, or is it powder angel on the floor, and another clone crying while walking in circles.
"Sasuke, help m—"
Sasuke closed the door and dashed away.
Naruto, devastated, walked into his and his wife's room and locked the door behind him.
He sat down on the floor and buried his face in his palms. He was pondering on what he will do next when there was a knock again on the door. "Maybe Sasuke came back and decided to help him out," he thought.
"Teme, why did you leave me?!" He shouted as he opened the door. Naruto was again surprised when the person in front of him was not what we expected. And just like that, blue orbs met pearl ones.
"Hinata, you're back," he whispered.
"Naruto-kun, sorry I left my keys. Was Sasuke-kun just here?" his wife asked.
"Naruto-kun, what's wrong? Hinata cupped her husband's cheeks. "Are you hurt?" Hinata glanced behind Naruto when she was confused as to why he was still speechless. Naruto dispelled his clones and closed his eyes thinking it will clean up the mess that is their kitchen.
Hinata activated her byakugan as an instinct when she saw the chaotic scene inside their house. "What happened here" she whispered to herself as she went further inside the room. She slowly looked back to her husband only to be surprised when she saw tears dropping on his cheeks.
"Hinata, I'm sorry." Naruto's voice was shaking. "I tried to replace the cinnamon roll I ate this morning but I did not know how to make one and just relied on my instinct. What you see now is the result, I messed it up more. Sorry, I'll just buy one when the store opens aga—"Before Naruto can finish his sentence, his wife ran up to him and hugged him. "Naruto-kun, why did you ever think that I will get mad just because you ate the cinnamon roll in the fridge? Remember, we're married, what's mine is also yours. You can eat whatever is inside our home." Hinata wiped her husband's tears and smiled at him.
"If you want, we can make cinnamon rolls together. Not just that, we can have a feast and cook ramen and other food as well. I can teach you." Hinata suggested to Naruto
The couple spent a few hours cooking all their favorite food while Naruto remembered the fact that he was not alone now. He was so used to growing up by himself that he forgot that he has a family now. As he summoned clones before to play cards with him, He did not need them now to help him with household matters, he has a wife now, who is standing by his side, who cherishes him dearly, and with who he will be spending his entire life with. Funny how it took him one cinnamon roll to realize all this. He went to his wife, now washing the dishes, and hugged her from behind. He buried his face in her neck and inhaled her scent, a mix of lavender and cinnamon.
"I love you," he whispered
"I love you too, Naruto-kun," she replied
"More than cinnamon rolls?" he asked
"Yes," she giggled.
