Chapter Two

Kagome slowly woke up to something warm against her face, with blurry eyes she looked at the horse, the alpha of the herd. It was bending down and nuzzling her face, she figured it must be trying to wake her up.

"I'm awake," Kagome muttered, pushing herself off the cave wall that she leaned against to sleep last night. She was happy that it was warm last night, but she figured it may be because she was surrounded by fire horses.

She gently pets the horse who gave her one last nuzzle, before moving to make it's way out of the cave. Kagome followed after it, not knowing what else to do. She probably would be safe around it. She didn't know if there were more creatures like it out there that would attack her.

She needed to investigate and see if she could find more humans. She had seen the one yesterday, so there had to be more somewhere. A village or a city couldn't be too far away. She also needed to find a water source and a food source while here.

"Hmm okay...first water...and then food," Kagome muttered to herself as she looked around at the scenery that was before her. It was breathtaking, and she saw more than the horse-like creatures out and about. She didn't know what kind of creatures they were but they were interesting, to say the least...and from her interaction with the horses, they were fairly intelligent.

They tended to stay with their own kind, little pods of odd creatures she had never seen before. They occasionally crossed paths but otherwise seemed to ignore each other, typical normal behavior for animals. Most seemed to steer away from her, glancing at her and then running away, it would seem they associated humans with danger and that made her sad.

Shaking her thoughts away she glanced at the herd of fire horses, they were spread across the grassy hill, the blue alpha sitting atop a small cliff keeping watch. Turning from the majestic sight she decided to make her way towards the small pond, the closer she got the farther the odd animals near it moved away from it.

Crouching in front of the water she kneeled down and cupped some water to bring it to her lips, she knew it was safe to drink merely from the fact that the pond was an outlet of a small river. It wasn't stagnant, and it was filtered via the rocks and roots the water flowed through into the mouth of the pond.

Thirst quenched she sat back on her haunches, her gaze taking in the position of the sun she mused it was still early morning. Flaring out her powers she felt various animal-like auras of varying kinds yet there wasn't a human aura for miles. It made her frown, if she was the lone human for miles then that meant she would have to fend for herself...it wasn't that she couldn't do it...just that she really wanted to try and figure out where, if not when, she was.

Standing up she dusted the back of her shorts, she had a source of water for now and now had to find food. She didn't have anything to hunt with and honestly, she didn't really want to hunt any of the wildlife around her until she knew more about the world she was in so she would have to settle for foraging for berries and other edible plants.

Thank god Kaede had drilled all those herbal lessons into her head, despite her not wanting to learn them at the time. It was with light feet that she approached the foliage nearby, her eyes scanning the greenery, seeing nothing worth eating she moved deeper into the outskirts of the forest.

Normally she would be quiet, so as to not disturb the wildlife, but she didn't know what was lurking let alone where and if it was friendly or not. So, she made as much noise as possible, acting much like Inuyasha, stomping about and grumbling under her breath.

Ten minutes into her trek she spied a tree that had some very large blue fruit hanging from it, looking like oversized blueberries. Blinking, she wondered if they were edible by human standards? Reaching up she plucked a berry and palmed it, bringing it to her nose to sniff at it. It smelt sweet, the aroma making her stomach growl.

She glanced around, spying a purple-like monkey stuffing its face with a large berry. Okay, it was edible by animals so it was more than likely okay for human consumption. She grabbed a few more before retreating back towards the small pond with the herd of fire horses. At least she knew she was safe with them.

As she sat down at the pond she cleared the fruit and hesitantly bit into it, surprised at its taste. It tasted a bit like a dragon fruit and a strawberry had a child. It was an odd combination but it tasted good, and it was food. It was better than not having anything at all. The tree had plenty of fruit on it from what she had seen too.

That means she would have something semi steady for a bit, but she would need to find other things. She didn't want to eat only that. It would be good to find more editable things once she takes a minute to get this in her stomach and drink more water.

Kagome would have to be careful not to wander too far, since she had nothing to carry water with her. She could get dehydrated fast, so staying close would be the best option. That and she didn't know if any of these other creatures would attack her. She didn't have any kind of weapon to protect herself with.

She could probably make a bow and some arrows if she looked hard enough for the materials. It would take longer since she had no knife, but she could find a sharp rock to make due for now. Plans formed in her head as she finished off the fruit.

It seems she had a plan of attack for the day.
