Several weeks had gone by since Diego's strange experience with time travel. His life of pretending to be a typical man had resumed with his secret identity left intact. He was unable to act out of character when he was dressed as himself in front of others. The fact that he was being seen as himself was currently causing a problem for him at the moment. Diego had found himself in the middle of being arrested by De Soto in the center of the pueblo for a crime that he had not committed. He had been accused of stealing several horses which had been recognized as stolen while transporting them after purchasing them for the hacienda. Victoria had been with him at the time. She had been planning to purchase wine made from mission grapes for the tavern, and he had been her chaperone. She was also being arrested as his accomplice.

"This isn't fair!" Victoria cried out. She was desperately trying to resist being arrested. "Life isn't fair, SeƱorita," De Soto said to Victoria as he grabbed her chin with his hand. Diego wished that he could rescue her, but he was not able to use his secret skills at the moment. The soldiers began to usher them towards the jail.

Diego would definitely find a way to get Victoria and himself out of this situation. He looked at the faces in the crowd as he searched for the one person who could help. The face he had been searching for belonged to Felipe, and Diego had finally been able to make eye contact with him. "Go find Zorro," he mouthed as Felipe read his lips. He knew that Felipe would retrieve Zorro's outfit and weapons to bring to him. If anyone else had been reading his lips they would think that he had simply asked Felipe to locate Zorro.

As they were rushed into the jail he found himself shoved into a jail cell with Victoria. After hearing the lock click in place on the cell he placed his hands on the bars. De Soto laughed at the two of them in the jail cell and announced, "I think I will use this most tragic situation to my advantage." Victoria walked over to the bars of the cell to stand beside Diego and groaned. "What are your plans for us?" she asked as she looked at De Soto with disgust and hatred. Once again the conniving alcalde laughed. "I'm going to claim that I found you and Diego in a compromising situation in this cell in the morning." Victoria cursed under her breath. "What would you gain by claiming that?" Diego found himself asking.

"I would like to know the answer to that too!" Mendoza suddenly interjected. De Soto inched closer to the bars until he was almost face to face with Diego. "When I force you and Victoria to get married tomorrow afternoon after I have found you both in a compromising situation in my jail, I predict that Zorro will show up at your wedding where my men will arrest him," he informed them. Victoria gasped in shock and disdain. "It will finally break his soul to see the woman that he loves married to another man," De Soto added before walking away from them.

Diego wanted to be married to Victoria and to be able to tell her that he was Zorro. He definitely did not want this situation to end up being the reason why he finally married Victoria. He had to find a way for them to escape. His only hope would be for Felipe to come to the jail and help him break free.

The light coming in from the windows had begun to fade. He knew that meant that the sun was beginning to set. Diego sat down beside Victoria and began to recite poetry to distract her from their less than desirable circumstances. She began to smile as she listened to him prattle on. This was the one thing that he could do as the man who she knew him to be to help her at that moment.

He continued to recite poetry and tell her stories for what began to seem like hours upon hours. She had eventually drifted off to sleep while listening to his voice. Diego didn't know whether he had bored her to sleep, or if his voice had been that soothing. He took off his coat and spread it over Victoria as if it were a blanket. A faint sound suddenly set off his fox-like instincts. He began to listen for the source of the sound.

Suddenly Felipe appeared in front of the cell with Zorro's outfit and weapons. Diego reached through the bars to grab the clothing and the weapons. He quickly stripped himself of his normal clothing in the dark cell as Victoria continued to sleep. With a renewed spirit he quickly dressed himself in the black outfit which allowed him to behave as a brave man who could meet any challenges that he faced. He then used his sword to pick the lock on the cell. When a click finally sounded, they were free.

Diego, who was in full Zorro mode, scooped Victoria up into his arms as she began to stir. He rushed out of the jail as she woke up and clung to his chest. "Where's Diego?" she asked while yawning. "He's already heading to the hacienda before someone has the chance to discover that I freed you both from your cell. Victoria let out a happy sigh as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

He quickly whistled for Toronado as Felipe surely would have brought him. Sure enough he heard the sound of his faithful companions fett coming towards him. As Toronado stopped by his side to wait for him to jump into the saddle, he placed Victoria on the horse's back. He leapt up behind her and urged his horse to gallop away from the pueblo. He would take her back to the cave to stay with him until De Soto had calmed down from having his plans thwarted again.

The night air was crisp and cool as they continued to ride towards the hacienda. Victoria had managed to scoot back into his lap and was once again holding her arms around his neck. He was holding her to his chest with one arm wrapped around her and steering with his free hand. Toronado seemed to begin galloping even faster as they were beginning to approach the cave.

With the darkness of the night surrounding them, Victoria had no idea that he had traveled with her towards the hacienda. Toronado had reached the secret mechanism for opening the cave. Diego, who was happy to be riding into his secret cave as Zorro steered the horse through the cave's opening and woahed the horse in front of his stall. He dismounted and extended his arms out to help Victoria down from the horse. She landed against him and began to hug him tightly.

Diego, who she believed to be Zorro leaned in for a kiss as Victoria ran her hand through his hair. Toronado snorted loudly. The horse was ready to be groomed and fed in his stall. He made a mental note to have a man to horse discussion with Toronado about timing. In the morning he would ride back to the pueblo to forcibly convince De Soto to admit that Victoria and Diego were innocent and that he would agree to forget about arresting them.

In time he would figure out how to let Victoria know that he and Zorro are the same person. He could only hope that she wouldn't be too angry when she found out. He felt hopeful knowing that he would eventually create a family with her and that their descendants would resemble them. For the rest of the night he would continue to wear Zorro's outfit and take advantage of the opportunity to be alone with her. Everyone in the hacienda except for Felipe thought that he was still in jail. It was his moment to finally have Victoria all to himself.
