"Do we have to go without Dad and Ace?" A small 8 years old boy questioned in a saddened tone while clinging to the older boy's shirt and looking up to him with the best puppy eyes he could manage.
"Come on Lu, tomorrow you'll woke up and we'll be back already" Ace said ruffling his hair in which the boy replied by sticking out his tongue.
"Very mature" Roger laughed at his son's antics before crouching down at his level to poke the small boy in the stomach causing him to giggle and squirm at Ace's side.
"But it's not fair! I want to be together with everyone all day on my birthday!" Luffy told them stressing out the world 'all' making a circle with his small arms.
"You're so sweet Luffy but we don't have a choice, Dad and Ace will have to take the later flight" A blonde woman approached them holding documents and papers in her hands.
"Besides, we had so much fun! Am I wrong fam?" She continued while Roger got up and greeted her with a kiss.
"You know mom's right" Ace responded, and when his little brother was still pouting, he started tickling him merciless.
"Damn bureaucracy, eh hun?" He backed his wife up and peeked at the sheets Rouge had.
"Don't tell me about it" She scoffed with a smile on her face and leaned on Roger's chest while watching their boys play around in the airport.
"I'm so glad we took him in our house. I never thought he could be able to laugh and have fun likeā¦" Rouge whispered making sure her husband was the only one who could hear.
"Don't get all sad on me, woman" Roger affectionally joked and kissed her head. "Don't think about the past. Look at them"
Luffy ducked and passed between his brother's legs who rather clumsy tried to get him and failed, before turning around and resuming their tag play.
"They look so carefree" Rouge smiled softly and turned around when Roger tapped her shoulder and pointed in another direction.
"Look who's there! Wonder which plane they'll get-".Her sentence was interrupted by the robotic airport voice announcing the last call for the flight Rouge and Luffy have to take.
"You go darling, have a nice flight" Roger paused and kissed her goodbye. "I'll see you tomorrow"
"Here's your tickets Rogy" She handed him the necessary paper sheets and took her suitcase and called out for her youngest son while hugging her oldest one and quickly pecking his cheeks ignoring Ace's flustered offended 'moom'. "Don't make your dad go crazy" Rouge smiled at him amused and took Luffy's small hand in hers.
"You stink!" The small raven-haired boy yelled making a face at Ace.
"See you stinker" Ace stick his tongue at his little brother promptly hiding it when his dad turned and made a poker face, to which Roger just busted out laughing. "God, Ace, you're supposed to be the mature one" The boy rolled his eyes at his dad and they both watched Rouge and Luffy checking-in and getting on the plane, before the two small group waved to each other and mother and son entered the plane.
"Mr. Luffy's dad! His brother too!" Said men turned away from the window to see a little girl running towards them.
"Kuina! Here all alone?" Roger greeted her, remembering Luffy and his best friends playing with this girl at school.
"My gramps' over there, is Luffy gone already?" She asked watching the plane slowly starting to warm up the engine.
"Yeah, barely missed him" Ace replied to her and turned to see indeed Kuina's grandfather slowly making his way towards them.
"Looks like we'll get on the same plane, young men" Shimotsuki Kozaburo smiled kindly at them.
They sticked together for the evening and later got on their plane.
The trip had been calm, passengers snoozing off most of the time, expect when they entered a violent turbulence that left them shacking and clinging to their seats for a while. The pilot kindly apologized for the inconvenience, explaining that the storm didn't show up in the plane's radar, so it caught them completely off guard.
The situation got weirder when another announcement from the pilot told them that they had to make a deviation for their landing, and that the police, government, and other important people were waiting for them once they'll get foot on earth.
And now, they were there, gathering in a small crowd behind the pilot and his crew were demanding what the heck was going on.
Gol D. Roger rested a hand on his son's shoulder and the seventeen years old boy leaned into his touch while lifting his head trying to get to see the man standing in front of the passengers' crowd who was currently talking with the plane's pilot.
For the first time Roger took the time to look around and take in the faces of the people he just had travelled with. Kuina and her grandad were standing next to them, but before he could try to look more around a strong voice demanded his attention and made him turn around to where the pilot and all the police car where.
"Ladies and gentlemen" The well-dressed man cleared his throat making sure his voice was loud and clear for everyone to listen.
"Your plane took off on the 5th May of the year 2007. Today is November 4th, of the year 2013".
