Diagon Alley victims
The names of everyone who lost their lives in the August Weekend explosions
Saturday the 28th of August will come to be remembered and mourned by those in the British Wizarding World for several years to come. The brutal attack was spearheaded by the radical terrorist group known as "The Statute Saboteurs."
In the wake of the attack, former Minister for Magic Hermione Granger-Black opted to step down and allow a wartime leader to take her place. Last night, her successor was named as her husband, Draco Black [formerly Malfoy]. He gave a rousing speech and is marked to make waves as the first minister in 89 years who was sworn into office unanimously (the last being Leopold Spencer-Moon in 1939).
Acting Head of the DMLE and former Minister for Magic, Tiberius McLaggen, released the full list of the dead and shed some light on the nature of the attacks this morning.
"The devices that caused the explosions have been identified. We understand that they are indeed linked to the Statute Saboteur group. Four explosions went off within two minutes of each other in the alley. This was due to an error – the first device which had been planted between Irena's Ice Cream Parlour and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes detonated 30 seconds earlier than it should have done. Following that, three further explosions detonated at the West end of the alley, in a close between Madam Puddifoots and Helga's Hotpot, and in the Leaky Cauldron itself."
A total of 133 people were killed in the attack, none of whom are believed to be responsible for planting the devices, but the DMLE assured us that they have surveillance from before the attack and can, therefore, track down those responsible.
Of the dead, 31 were children, shopping in the alley for school supplies or simply out with their parents, unaware of the danger that presided over the alley that grim Saturday afternoon. 6 of the dead were Muggles who either lived in the alley with their wizarding other half or who were accompanying their magical child to the alley. A further 7 were Squibs who lived or worked in the alley. The remaining 89 casualties were all wizarding civilians.
Here are the names of those who lost their lives in the attack.

Several children have been left orphaned by the attack, and an appeal is due to be sent out on behalf of Lupin House to anyone who can foster or adopt a child or take a child in as their ward. Lupin House was a bold venture by Harry Potter and Howard Abbott when it was launched in 2005, and to this day, it struggles with capacity issues.
Still, in the words of our newly elected Minister for Magic:
"United, we must stand – against cruelty and poverty as well as against those who wish to expose us."
