This took longer than I wanted, but it's out now. Let's get to this chapter.

Don't do it Rin

By Ghazi

It was the night now. Rin and Gumi didn't knew what to do. They've been driving for over 10 hours or something, to no success. Gumi suddenly stopped driving.

"Let's sleep now," Gumi said "we'll continue our search tomorrow."

Rin sighed "I guess I got no other option." she said.

They slept in the car. It wasn't really comfortable, but they were in a forest right now and therefore, it was about as comfortable as it gets in that place. All they can do now, is hope that Meiko doesn't catch them while they're asleep.

Meiko was thinking hard in the backseat of the car. It was very late in the night and according to the people who stayed in the department who she has contacted many times by now, Rin and Gumi have still not returned to the department. It was clear now. They are in search of Yohioloid and are planning to kill him. She doesn't know what to say, she's been doing this for way longer than they are, she's way older and way more experienced. Yet they just outsmarted her. She doesn't know if she should be mad or proud.

"You can stop driving now." she ordered the officer who was driving.

"Are you sure commissioner?" he asked her.

"It's clear that those two have been driving for a ridiculously long amount of time now," Meiko told him "we haven't been driving for as long but I think we should rest because they're probably sleeping now."

"As you say ma'am." he listened.

"Besides, we're still in an area where we can find many places to sleep, if we go further we'll end up in a forest and we'll have to sleep in this car and I'd hate that." Meiko said very straightly.

"We'll continue our search tomorrow." a different officer said.

"Hopefully it'll not be too late." Meiko said.

They went to nearby hotel and sleeped there for the night.

The next day, Meiko woke up wondering whether if they're too late or not. They immediately left the hotel because none of them wanted to give Rin and Gumi any further time to break the law. They got inside the car and continued their search.

"Hurry, we can't let them find Yohioloid." Meiko said.

"Fine, but commissioner, we wanted to ask you something." the officer who was driving said.

"Yeah, we don't think we'll get a better opportunity." another officer said.

"Spit it out." Meiko said.

"How come you never wanted a family? What is up with this intent to always live alone?" one of them finally asked.

"That's none of your business." Meiko said in what was a quite frankly, embarrassed voice.

"Look commissioner, you'll have to one day tell someone," the driving officer said "now is as good a time as it gets."

"Fine," Meiko said "but don't tell the rest of the department, I'd rather they know after I'm not incharge."

"We promise now tell us." another one said.

"To simply put," Meiko said "so many officers have died while I'm incharge, I've never felt like a good leader... ever, I don't wanna get married, I don't want a family, I don't deserve happiness."

"But commissioner, that's so-" the driving officer could finish his sentence because Meiko cut him off.

"No further questions," Meiko yelled "now continue driving."

"Yes ma'am." he had no choice but to obey, none of them did.

"C'mon Rin, please bring me with you to the sleepover in Miku's house." Len said with a innocent voice.

"But there only gonna be girls there," Rin said to her brother "you hate girls, don't you?"

"I do," Len said "but I really wanna go just this once."

Suddenly Rin figured it out.

"I get it, you're in love with Miku aren't you?" Rin smirked.

"Of course not," he tried to deny but it was obvious "how do you even thought of this."

"Look Len, we're 4 and she's 6, she's too old for you." Rin said.

"No she's not." Len said.

"Gotcha." Rin said.

"Please take me with you." Len requested with big cute eyes.

"I don't know." Rin wasn't sure.

As they were talking about this. Suddenly Miku came to their house and greeted them.

"How are you Rin? And how are you Len?" she said. She was way taller than Rin and Len because of the age gap.

"M-Miku..." Len was melting inside.

"Len wants to come to the sleepover." Rin said.

"Of course he can," Miku said "I'd love it."

"I-I..." he was blown away.

"I'll see you there little guy." she said.

Miku stayed for a while then left.

"I hope you're ready for this." Rin wished her brother luck.

"Best day of my life." Len said.

"Rin, why are you so quite?" Gumi asked as she was driving.

"It's nothing," Rin said "I was just reminiscing a childhood memory about Miku and Len, I miss them so much."

"I get it," Gumi said "still, I wish I knew a way out of this forest."

"I'm not sure if figuring things out is something you're good at," Rin said to her "why didn't you just showed Yuki's aunt your badge."

"You'd want me to do that?" Gumi asked.

"Yeah, you could've easily intimidated her and get the shaved ice." Rin said.

"Sure, that's not risky at all," Gumi said "that won't give Meiko any clues in the slightest."

"We're taking a massive risk by doing what we're doing." Rin said

"I'd still prefer if people not know who we are in the middle of this quest." Gumi replied.

Suddenly they see a man sitting near a tree. What was he doing in the middle of this forest? It's a place where they didn't expected to find any human so this was surprising. Isn't it dangerous here? They're curious now and they have to step out of the car and talk to him. He looked pretty unhappy and sick of his life.

"Look sir, we don't know why you're here but have you seen this person?" Gumi said while she showed him a picture of Yohioloid.

"Wow, I knew it," he said sounding angry "people like you don't care about people like me."

"What are you saying?" Rin said confused.

"Look at me, I'm homless, got no money, live in this dangerous place, and you don't care about that," he said with anger "you didn't asked me how can you help me, you asked me something that concerned you."

"If you're done, can you help us now." Rin said still uninterested in him.

"Get out of here," he yelled at them "I have no time for selfish people like you."

"Please, we really need to find him." Gumi said in a helpless voice.

"Get out." he said making up his mind.

"It's hopeless Gumi," Rin said in a defeated voice "we've searched almost the whole city, we might never find that murderer."

"What did you say?" Rin's words caught the homeless man off guard.

"He killed my brother and best friend," Rin told him "It's okay if you don't believe us."

The homeless man had actually met Yohioloid multiple times. He wasn't telling about him because he was not happy at how Rin and Gumi just didn't care about how miserable his life is. The fact is however, he had previously heard about Yohioloid planning to kill people before from the days he and his guards went by from his forest to change his location to a mansion he took over. He didn't thought it was any of his business. Besides what can he do? He has no money. Regardless of how Rin and Gumi don't care about him. He can't let someone who had her loved ones murdered, go without giving them any information.

"No it's okay, I believe you." he told them.

"What?" both of them said at the same time.

"He's not far away from here," he told them "he lives in a mansion nearby this forest that used to belong to someone else."

"Really?" Rin still wasn't sure.

"Just keep driving and when you drive out of the forest, you'll just have to take few more left turns and a final right turn."

"Thank you." Gumi said as they got back in the car and went away.

He was there alone again. He can't believe he just did that. He didn't even asked for something in return. He feels like a complete idiot and yet at the same time, he isn't ashamed one bit.

"Oh Kaito, you're to nice for your own good." he said to himself frustrated.

A few hours after that Meiko and the other officers had also reached the forest and it was getting frustrating.

"Getting out of this place seems hard," Meiko said "at this point, they might find him before we find them."

"Hey commissioner, there's a man sitting besides a tree nearby." the officer who was driving said.

"Really?" Meiko was curious "I want you to stop right here."

They stopped and got out of the car to talk to Kaito.

"What is it? You probably want something from me too, right." Kaito said.

"No, I was gonna ask you what are you doing here in such a dangerous place alone." Meiko was being honest.

"Oh so now you're gonna pretend to care about me?" Kaito still didn't trusted them.

"I'd really like to help you." Meiko really was being serious.

"That means you'd probably give me money, right?" Kaito presumed.

"All of us have have spent all the money we brought with us during this quest of ours," Meiko told him "we got nothing left."

"Then get lost," Kaito told them "I don't want you here."

"Look, we want to help you," she said to him "we can send you to the city and give you a place to live."

"I just don't trust you guys," he told them "and judging by your car and matching clothes, you're detectives which makes me trust you even less than I already did."

"Yes we're detectives," Meiko said "and we're on a quest, but it doesn't look like you wanna help us."

"What is it that you need?" he at least wanted to know.

"We're looking for these two ladies? Have you seen them?" Meiko showed a picture of Rin and Gumi together.

"These two... they're looking for a guy who killed one of their brother and best friend, I knew him and I told them where he is." Kaito said.

"YOU WHAT!" Meiko was flabbergasted.

"I hate them, I really do," Kaito told her "they can't care less about me, and yet I couldn't help myself, I had to help someone who's looking for a killer of loved ones."

"You're being serious?" Meiko asked.

"I am, whether you believe it or not," Kaito said "it looks like they were your fellow detectives and I couldn't tell because of they were wearing civillian clothes."

"Looks that way." Meiko said.

"Whatever, I did what I did on my own accord and that's all I care about." Kaito said.

"Look, I'm not mad at you, you did the thing that you thought was right," Meiko said "that out of the way, please tell us where they are."

"You'll have to drive enough to get out of this forest, then take a few left turns and a right turn in the end where that guy has a mansion."

"Thanks!" Meiko said "I promise we'll improve your life."

Kaito stayed silent for a couple seconds "nobody has been as good to me in a really long time, I'll never forget you."

Kaito and Meiko hugged eachother before she got back in the car and went back to sit near the tree for an indefinite amount of time. Meiko's men are gonna have a good time making fun of her behind her back for her "romance" with Kaito.

"We're almost there." Gumi knew she was finally about to stop driving.

"Yohioloid, prepare for armageddon." Rin said.

"I still can't believe we're doing this." Gumi said.

"In many ways I don't either." Rin told her.

"When I recommended this I didn't think you'd say yes so quickly." Gumi said.

"You see, me and those two were by no means fully innocent," Rin replied "but Miku and Len went unforgiven, and I'm not gonna let Yohioloid get away for doing something much worse."

"I understand." Gumi said.

Not long after at night, they spotted the mansion. It was the place. They got out of the car and looked at the mansion with determination.

"We're gonna stand here and wait a while," Gumi told her "first we need to get ready then we'll go inside."

"So what's your plan?" Rin asked.

"You'll find out soon," Gumi said "we'll have to wait a few more hours."

"Okay." Rin listened.

"They're very near outside, sir." one of his men told him.

"Excellent, Rin and Gumi have finally arrived." Yohioloid said.

"We can now go outside and capture them." he suggested.

"No, I want a fight, a real fight," Yohioloid said "then I'll kill her."

"You're being super irrational, sir." he said to Yohioloid's face.

"Maybe I am, but I killed Len and Miku by defeating them and I don't just wanna caught Rin off guard." Yohioloid told him.

"Fine, we'll let them attack us and when we defeat them, we'll give Rin to you so you can kill her." he told Yohioloid.

"Now that's more like it," Yohioloid was pretty happy with this idea "tell IA and Piko to get ready in case they defeat everyone."

"I will." he obeyed the orders.

"Rin, prepare to die." he said with a smirk

I'm so happy to finally get this chapter over with. See you guys next year!
