"And you need to take these daily," The woman said as she handed Evangeline a white bottle. When Evangeline opened the bottle to look at the content her eyes bulged as she looked at the woman before her with confused eyes.

"What are these enemas?" This caused Nora to giggle and the nurse, who was instructing Evangeline on proper pre-natal care, smiled kindly, having heard this many times before from other first-time mothers.

"No, these you take orally," The nurse answered and Evangeline's eyes grew larger.

"I'll choke, why the hell are they so huge."

"You can do like I did, cut them in half, it's less intimidating that way," Nora said as she rubbed her friend's back in support. This seemed to calm Evangeline a bit.

"And you need to go ahead and set up an appointment with your OBGYN as soon as possible, so they can start you on a regiment as far as your diet and follow-up visits." The nurse said smiling as she stood to leave the small examining room. "So do you have anything you'd like to ask? If not you can get dressed and check out at the nurse's station."

"Yes, uhm, just one, do you know how far along I am?"

"Well I'd only be guessing but I'd say about six weeks, your doctor could tell you more accurately when they do the ultrasound," With that, the nurse left. Evangeline just sat not making a move to dress.

"Hey, you ok?" Nora asked as she again rubbed Evangeline's back.

"No, I just don't know how I'm going to tell John, I mean he's said in not so many words, that he didn't think he ever wanted to be a father."

"Well sweetie, he should have thought of that before he started having sex, cause I don't know if he knows this or not but that's actually how babies are made," Nora said sarcastically.

"We were careful…most of the time."

"Most of the time?" Nora repeating wanted her to elaborate.

"Well our first time, we weren't exactly prepared, it was the whole heat of the moment, moment and he pulled out before," Evangeline said getting a skeptical look from Nora. "And yes I knew I could still get pregnant, just wasn't really caring at the time, and then there was his visit to my office a few weeks ago, which was probably the date of conception. I just don't know how I'm going to tell him. I mean how would I, tonight at dinner do I just say 'hey guess what'?"

"I don't know sweetie, that's something you'll have to figure out, but I can tell you this, you need to tell him as soon as possible, it's not right nor fair to keep it from him, and it will surely come back to bite you in the ass if you try to keep it from him."

"Yeah, he has a right to know and decide if he wants to be involved or not," Evangeline said sadly.

"Oh honey," Nora spoke as she wrapped an arm around Evangeline. "I don't know John as well as you do, but he just doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would walk out on you or your child."

"No, he'll do the right thing even if he doesn't want to. I don't want him involved if he really doesn't want this baby, Nora, I'd resent him for it and this baby would know I just know it would, it wouldn't be fair to any of us. So, I'll give John the option, be here for this baby, or sign away his rights," Evangeline said as her eyes watered with tears and fear as the thought that John will opt to leave gripped at her.

She sat on the floor with her chin resting on his arm as she watched him sleep. Reaching out she gently traced her fingers over his forehead down his nose and to his lips, thinking they were all lovely features that their child could have. At the feel of her fingertips on his lips, John opened his eyes and smiled through a deep sigh.

"Hey, beautiful."

"Hey yourself," She replied as mustered a brave smile.

"You been back long," John asked looking at his watch as he began to sit upright on the couch.

"Nope, just got back in, didn't want to wake you, I like watching you sleep," Evangeline said with a smile as she sat on the couch beside him. John leaned into her and placed a soft kiss on her lips.

"So did you get everything taken care of?" He asked as she looked at him like a deer caught in headlights. "You said you had to go out for a bit I assumed it was to run an errand."

"Oh, uh, actually Nora and I went to see a doctor, and we both lied to you before and I'm sorry, and I promise you from here on out I'm going to be honest with you, ok?" She said and then took a deep shaky breath while John cast her a nervous gaze.

"Ok, so what did you lie about exactly?"

"Nora wasn't here showing me lingerie and stuff, that's not what was in that bag."

"Ok," John replied not saying much, wanting her to go on.

"The bag was full of pregnancy tests."

"Wow, really?" John said with a slight smile. "Boy Daniel and Nora haven't been back from their honeymoon that long and they're already pregnant."

"No John, they weren't Nora's," The smile instantly faded from his face, and Evangeline felt her heart sink at the sight. "They were mine, Nora was just helping me."

"Yours," John repeated as he nodded at her a bit and then looked down at the floor as if he were waiting for it all to sink in. "So, you're…uh..." He couldn't get out the word and she let him off the hook.

"Yes, I'm about six weeks," She answered and then sat quietly with her hands in her lap waiting for him to respond.

"You're gonna have a baby," John said trying to let the words resonate.

"Actually 'we're' going to have a baby," Evangeline corrected suddenly feeling herself grow defensive as she wrapped her arms around her waist. Her words quickly got his attention as he shot his head up to look at her.

"I…" He opened his mouth and then closed it again unsure of what it was he wanted to say. "I don't know what I'm supposed to say."

"I don't know what you're supposed to say either John."

"Evangeline…" The ringing of his cell phone cut off John's words.

"Great, perfect timing," Evangeline said as she rolled her eyes and stood from the couch. John reached out a grasped her hand before she could walk off.

"I can ignore it, we should talk about this thing."

"This 'thing'?" She repeated as she pulled her hand from his grasp. "This 'thing' is our baby, and what's there to talk about? It's a bit late in the day, John. The baby's here now," She said as she moved to the fireplace and leaned her hand on the mantle.

"I'm sorry I don't mean to upset you, it's just I really don't know what to say. Want do you expect me to say Evangeline I mean this is a shock."

"Yeah I know it is John, I didn't expect this either, but I want our baby I guess the question here is, do you? So do you John? Do you want to be a part of this baby's life? Because make no mistake about it I'm having this baby, with or without you."
