Chapter 2: Birthday's Suck

BPOV

AN: Bitchy Bella is here to play ;). This is just a reminder that she is still a teenager and has raging hormones.

"Happy birthday, Kiddo," Charlie says as soon as I walk into the kitchen. "This is from your mom and me," he says tossing me two gifts.

I stare at him until he starts to shift uncomfortably.

"Okay! Fine! It's from me. I just put her name on it as well. Give her a break, Bells," he says quietly.

"A break?! A break is me constantly forgiving her for not remembering the day she pushed me out. That's 18 hours of her life she will never get back. A break would be me forgiving her for never giving me a birthday party because she forgot, even though she made me lie to you and tell you that I had a blast. A break is me forgiving her for making me find money to pay the bills she forgot to pay so that we wouldn't be in the dark or without hot water. That is a break and I am done giving it to her," I yell at him. He has a shocked look over his face and I can't blame him. He never knew any of this and I am unloading on him. I don't feel bad about it though. He should've been more present in my life over the years.

"I bet if I pull out my phone right now and call her, she wouldn't know what today is," I say with a raised eyebrow.

Charlie raises his hands in the air as a surrender and looks at me with so much pain in his eyes.

"I am so sorry Bella. I had no idea," he says quietly.

"And that is the problem Charlie," I say looking him in the eyes.

"Thank you for my gifts. I will open them tonight at the stupid party Alice is having for me at the Cullen's. I don't even want this party, but Edward asked me to play nice," I say while gathering my stuff to head out the door. Edward will be here any minute.

"I work tonight, Bells," Charlie says as if I don't already know.

"You always work on my birthday, Dad. I wasn't expecting anything different because I am turning 18," I say while walking out the door. I heard Edward's door close a few seconds ago.

"Love you, Dad. Have a good day. Let's go, Edward," I say while walking to the car.

Edward looks baffled for a minute before he takes a few seconds to listen to my dad's thoughts. I see sympathy all over his face. I subtly shake my head. I just want this stupid day to be over.

All-day throughout school, people have been coming up to wish me a happy birthday. I have responded with fake enthusiasm to everyone. Alice keeps trying to get me to cheer up for the party later, saying that I will bring the mood down if I am not happy. She told me to be fair because they haven't had a real birthday to celebrate in decades. How is that my problem? I didn't want to celebrate my birthday and I shouldn't have to be happy about a celebration that I don't want.

Finally, the school day ends and Edward takes us to Charlie's house so that that party pixie can get the house ready for this big bash. Great. Edward tells me to put on a movie to pass the time and I pick Romeo and Juliet. We have to read it this year anyway, might as well refresh my memory some.

"This movie is not as great of a love story that people make it out to be. It's sick that they would kill themselves because the other has passed on. What made them think that this would make the other happy? They should live on for each other," I say while laying my head on Edward's lap while he plays with my hair.

"I wouldn't expect you to get it just yet Bella. If you change, you'll understand better. Vampire's feelings are a million times stronger than humans. If something were to happen to you, I'd follow behind you as fast as I could," he says softly.

I try to calm down, but I am seeing red. He didn't mean to say it like that, did he? He has always had a habit of speaking before thinking about the words that fly out of his mouth. Actually, fuck it. What better time to teach him to think before speaking than right now?

"Are you saying my feelings are less than yours because you're a fucking supernatural being? Do you think I can just walk away from you because I am human? You're my fucking mate, Edward Anthony Masen Cullen!," he gasps when I say the word mate, but I am on a roll and too worked up to think about it.

"It would destroy me if we were to ever part ways. Don't discredit my feelings for you or our love ever again," I yell. I am so wound up that I need to get some space in between us.

I head to the kitchen to get a glass of water to try and help calm myself down. I put my hands on the counter and lower my head. I am taking deep breaths as I feel cool arms wrapping around my waist and pulling me into his body.

"Words cannot express how sorry I am, my beautiful girl. Please forgive me. I know my words said otherwise, but I do not think less of your feelings. This was just an instance of putting my foot in my mouth," he says while nuzzling my neck. Inside, I know he didn't mean it the way I took it, but he had to know that he can't just go around saying things that hurt me.

"I know, Baby. It just hurt me to think that you thought less of my feelings because I am a human. As if this doesn't mean anything. Edward, I would be destroyed if we ever go our separate ways. I forgive you, but please don't ever doubt me again," I say as I turn in his arms and lay my head on his chest. He leans down to kiss the crown of my head softly.

"I'm your mate, huh?" he teases after a few minutes of holding each other in silence. I let out a loud laugh. It feels good to not be in an argument with him anymore.

"Yeah, you are. You're stuck with me, buddy. Just wait until I change. I'll have you begging on your knees for forgiveness," I say while looking up at him.

"Who said I agreed to change you," he questions me with a smirk.

"I did. It's really a moot point now. I'll be Isabella Marie Masen, vampire," I say chuckling. He gives a light gasp. I stop laughing when he pulled my chin up so that I can look him in his eyes.

"To be Isabella Marie Masen, you have to marry me first," he said with a serious look on his face.

"That was also a moot point, Edward. Why would I not marry you when I am already talking about spending the rest of my existence with you, silly," I say leaning up to kiss him. He deeps the kiss and tightens his arms around my waist. His phone starts to ring in his pocket, but we ignore it. Five minutes later it is still ringing. Sighing, he pulls away and pulls his phone out of his pocket.

"Yes, Alice," he questions. I stand on my tiptoes and start kissing his Adam's apple and he lets out a low purr.

"Okay, we are on the way," he hangs up the phone and looks down at me.

"Come on you little minx, your party awaits," he says and then chuckles when he sees my face drop.

"It won't be that bad, baby. Humor us," he says pleading with me.

"Fine. Let's go," I say walking to the door. Edward will lock up.

****I WANT YOU****

The party isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Esme made food for me and a plate to take Charlie home. Emmett is playing decent music and has been telling me crude jokes all night. Rose has only slapped him in the back of the head once tonight. After that, he disappeared upstairs for about 20 minutes to sulk. Jasper is engaged but is standing slightly away. I told him I know it was nothing personal and he was grateful. Once he let his walls down, he was hilarious. Once I am changed, I vow to spend more time with him.

"Time for presents," Alice squeals in my ear and I groan.

I open my first gift from Jasper, Emmett, and Rosalie and stare at it confused. It's an empty speaker box.

"Wow, guys. You shouldn't have. I've always wanted an empty box," I say with a fake smile. They all laugh at me.

"Silly, Bella. I already set up the speaker in your truck. That's where I disappeared to earlier. I ran to your house to install them," he says with a mischievous smirk.

"Thanks, guys. Really. Thank you. I'll be sure to blast music on the way to school in your honor," I say while smirking back at him.

"You are going to be a handful once you are changed, sis," Jasper says laughing at me and Emmett.

"I got you a closet full of clothes, Bella! I'll be by tomorrow to set up your closet," she says while bouncing on her toes.

"How about we just keep them in Edward's closet. When I move in next year, I'll use them then," I say with a sweet smile hoping to win this battle.

"Nice try, Bella," she smirks and I groan.

"Sweetie, this is from Esme and me. We hope you like it," Carlisle says while handing me a gift-wrapped package.

"Thanks, guys. I'm sure I will love it," I say giving them a sincere smile.

As I am ripping the gift paper off, I feel one of the sharp edges nick my finger.

Things seem to flow in slow-motion then. One second I am opening a gift and the next I see Jasper being held back by Alice and Edward. Emmett quickly joins in the struggle of holding Jasper back and Rose comes to stand next to me, slowly backing me away towards the front door. I knew if I didn't do something to stop the flow of blood, things would get even worse.

I quickly stick my finger in my mouth and suck the exposed blood away. As soon as my bloody finger was no longer in the air, Jasper started to calm down a lot.

"Jasper, cut this shit out right now! You just called me your sister not even five minutes ago and you don't want to kill me. Think of what it will do to the family. To ALICE," I scream at him. This gets him to stop thrashing almost immediately.

Carlisle and Esme were at my side quickly after that.

"Come on, Bella. Let's go to my office to clean your finger up," he says while guiding me to the stairs.

"No. Edward, take me to your room to help me clean up my finger, please," I say to him. I need to talk to him. I see the look on his face. He is blaming himself for what he is and the danger he put me in.

He says nothing as he guides me up the stairs. He is making quick work of cleaning my finger and is refusing to look at me in the eyes.

"Come on. Let's get you home before it gets too late. We don't want Charlie upset with you," he says gathering my things.

"Forget Charlie! What is going on in your head right now," I question him.

"Bella, you were almost killed tonight. Because of what we are. Your blood called to all of us. I put you in danger just being around you," he says while shaking his head. I sit there silently thinking about what he just said.

"Come on, let's get you home," he says standing me up. Instead of going down the stairs, he picks me up and jumps off the side of his balcony. Alice is waiting for us by his car.

"Bella, I am so sorry. I didn't see tonight turning out this way," she says quietly.

"Whatever, Alice. You only see what you want to see. Maybe next time you'll listen when I say I don't want to do something! This would have all been avoided if we just had a quiet movie night as I suggested. No, we just HAD to have this stupid fucking party, right? Alice, save your apologies. Tell Jasper I am not mad at him and I will see him tomorrow at school," I say while getting into Edward's car and he drives off.

"Are you staying tonight," I ask once we get to Charlie's house.

"Not tonight. We have to figure out what we're going to do about Jasper. He's probably beating himself up right now," he says quietly, but I know he's lying to me. He pulls me in for a brief kiss and then walks me to the front door.

"Good night, Bella," he says at the door.

"Good night, Edward," I say with tears in my eyes. I quickly rush inside and shut the door. I run up to my room and close and lock my door before I start crying. Charlie isn't home and I don't want him coming into my room to talk to me once he gets home.

Edward is aloof the next couple of days after my party. Once Friday rolls around, he asks to meet me at my house after school and I agree. We need to talk this out. Our relationship is strained and I can't take it anymore. Once we get to my house, I start to head inside, but Edward says he wants to take a walk. We walk a little bit into the woods on the side of my house, but we can still see the house from here. He stops and turns to look at me.

"We need to leave Forks," he says after a few seconds.

"Okay, let me write a note to Charlie and pack a few things, and," he holds his hand up to cut me off.

"No, Bella. My family and I are leaving. You are staying," he says firmly. Realization dawns on me. He's trying to break up with me.

"Edward, be quiet. Before you say something you will regret it," I say while deciding to call Alice and tell her to get herself and Jasper here as soon as possible. It's better than calling her.

"Bella, it's best this way," he starts to say before I cut him off by holding my hand up. He has another thing coming if he thinks he's going to break up with me.

"Be quiet. Alice is on her way," I say in response.

AN: Well guys, there you have the beginning of New Moon (my least favorite in the saga). Bella has a backbone and is giving everyone a piece of her mind. Bella is hearing none of Edward's nonsense. We will see what she has to say once Alice and Jasper get there.
