Note: Everyone lives!

"She is an elf!"

"What does it matter?"

"It matters."

They had been at this for what felt like hours. Going back and forth over the same things again and again. All the dwarves had made sure to steer clear of the heirs of Durin as soon as the shouting started.

Fili had stayed, albeit reluctantly, to act as mediator to his brother and uncle.

"But why?" Kili asked, "I am not your heir, I have no obligation for who to marry. I love Tauriel!"

"Love," Thorin scoffed, "You do not know love, especially with an elf."

"I know enough to know that I love her," Kili insisted.

"Uncle," Fili stepped forward before Thorin could retort, "I believe what Kili is saying is true, he does love her. And she loves him."

Thorin scoffed again.

"You didn't see what she did in Laketown. He saved Kili's life, but it was so much more than that. Uncle, she truly loves him."

"It isn't right," Thorin said, "A dwarf and an elf. I will not allow it."

"I am not asking you to allow anything Uncle," Kili said calmly, "If you will not accept us, then we will not stay."

"What?"

"You heard me Uncle," Kili said, sounding braver and bolder than he actually felt. "Tauriel and I will leave. We will go somewhere we're welcome."

"You would threaten your king?"

"It's not a threat," Kili said simply, "It is the truth. And you may be my king, but you are also my uncle. And I will not allow my uncle to treat the woman I love this way."

Thorin looked torn. He couldn't allow this relationship to continue, but if Kili left… Dis would never forgive him.

"Uncle."

Thorin to his attention to his eldest nephew.

"If Kili leaves, I will go with him.:

Thorin stared at the boy, no, the man in front of him.

"Fee-" Kili started.

"No, I almost lost you in Laketown. I will not do that again," he said before turning his attention back to Thorin. "If you force Kili out of here, I will not stay either. I will always choose my brother."

Thorin stared at the two boys.

"The elf can stay."

He turned and stormed out of the room. They had back him into a corner and they knew it. He couldn't lose his heir; he couldn't lose his nephews.

Thorin would never forgive himself if he lost his sister-sons. Dis would never forgive him. Durin's beard, Dis would kill him! But how was he meant to live with an elf wandering these sacred halls?

Thanks for reading!

In my mind, Thorin, Fili, and Kili lived and all got happy endings.
