Chapter 3
The Witches Find Their New Member
As the morning sun rosed, the gang got up and dressed for the day. They made their way to the dining room for breakfast.
"Like, is British food great or what Scoob?" Shaggy said as he picked up an egg with his fork.
"Rasty," Scooby said with a mouth full of sausages.
"Scooby, don't talk with your mouth full," Velma berated with a yawn. Her eyes had grey bags underneath from her restless night.
"Velma, you look like you didn't get a wink of sleep last night?" Daphne asked.
"You two do know that our rooms are next to each, right?" she asked, glaring at the couple.
"You, um, heard us last?" Fred asked in embarrassment.
"I did.".
"Sorry about that," Daphne apologized in humiliation.
"What did you hear?" Shaggy innocently asked.
"Birds and the Bees?" Velma hinted.
It dawned upon Shaggy and Scooby what she meant.
"Rurprised rhe rhole country ridn't hear rit," Scooby laughed, making Fred and Daphne look away completely mortified before they continued to eat.
After they finished their meal, the gang went to see Shaggy's uncle and aunt with Velma trying her hardest to stay awake. They met the elderly couple outside a small. With them was the cat.
"Morning Uncle Casey, morning Auntie Mindy," Shaggy greeted his relatives.
"Morning, Shaggy," he responded in kind.
"So, what's the plan for the day?" Velma asked trying her best not to yawn.
"Velma are you ok?" Mindy asked.
"I'm fine I just didn't get much sleep last night," she dismissed.
"I could get you a coffee if you want?" Casey said.
"It's ok I'll be fine."
While the gang talked with each other, Scooby and the cat just glared at one another. He promised not hurt to the feline, although he still didn't like the creature, a sentiment shared by the other pet. It then let out a cautionary hiss.
"Pete, remember we talked about you and Scooby trying to get along." the elderly woman said.
"Pures, Purandy." the cat said.
"So shall we get going?" Fred interjected.
"We shall," Casey said.
They got into their respective vehicles and drove off to the center of the town to go site seeing again. Once they had parked their vehicles, they got out and looked around.
Nearby, the ancient witches were looking around for a woman to make their newest member. They had used their magic to disguise themselves as normal humans. Victoria's human disguise gave her white skin, neat and dark brown hair, and a large but short nose. Her outfit, while still black, looked more modern and was completed with a white cloth headband.
Mary's disguise also gave her pale skin. She had well-kept brown hair, a large inward chin, and a large nose with a single wart. She wore a dark grey shirt with a matching hat and a red skirt. Even in her disguise, she was still unbelievably ugly.
Elvina's human disguise gave her matching skin to her sisters, well-kept black hair, a small button nose, and an inward chin. She wore a blue top and a grey skirt. She liked her new appearance and wished she could stay this way forever.
As the sisters walked through the town they came to the fountain where, by coincidence, the gang was at. The witches stopped to spy on them for a potential witch.
"What about her?" Mary asked, pointing to Mindy.
"Too old, she'll never remember the spells," Victoria said. "Maybe that one?" she gestured to Velma.
"She looks like she'll catch on too quickly."
"Are you saying that there are mortals I can't manipulate?" Victoria snapped.
"Maybe," Mary honestly told her.
As the two bickered Elvina continued to watch the group and noticed another woman walking toward them. Knowing how her sisters hated when she interrupted their fights she decided to talk to the woman instead.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for the library could you please give me directions?" Elvina asked the woman in a voice much more sultry than she expected. The woman she was speaking to had a beautiful hourglass figure with flaming red hair matched with a nice violet outfit.
"Sure, just go left of this fountain, then once you get to the Barkey down there, turn left and it should be there."
"Thank you, Ms.- um."
"Helena, Holly Helena," she introduced.
"Thank you, Holly."
"You're welcome," Holly nodded, and she continued her walk.
Elvina gave her sisters a nervous look. If her theory was correct then the woman she had just spoken to was the descendent of the sorceress that had turned her into stone. She went back to the other witches to tell them. As she did, however, Tim approached the fountain. He had gone to pick pumpkins for the festival. He saw Velma and the gang and decided to go talk to them. Velma could barely keep her eyes open and after several blinks, she fell asleep standing up.
"Hello, again Velma," he greeted, causing her to scream as she awoke. "Sorry, sorry I didn't mean to scare you."
"No it's ok, I didn't get much sleep last night and I'm having trouble staying awake," she said in embarrassment.
"I see. So, are you going to introduce me to your friends?"
"Oh yes," she gestured to each member of the group and stated their name.
"It's a pleasure to meet all of you. My name is Tim Roald."
"Well, it's very nice to meet you Mr. Roald" Fred greeted.
"So, I take it you're all here for the festival?"
"Like- sure are! Speaking of which, what's on the menu?" Shaggy hungrily inquired.
"Chicken with Yorkshire puddings and mash potatoes, pumpkin pie, and chocolate cake, to name a few," Tim enticed them.
"Rounds yummy!" Scooby interjected, licking his lips at thought of the feast.
"Well, I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got to carve these pumpkins," he excused himself.
"It was nice to see you again, Tim," Velma called after him.
"You, too, Velma," he said as he left.
"Shall we continue to our next stop?" Mindy segued.
"Lead the way, Aunt Mindy," her nephew agreed.
They headed to the next site. Daphne turned to see that Velma had fallen asleep again, so she gently woke her up.
Meanwhile, Elvina had finished telling her sisters about Holly which made the oldest sister livid.
"That's just great," Victoria said through gritted teeth.
"And we're still no closer to finding our new witch," Mary said.
Just before Elvina could say anything they heard Daphne wake Velma.
"You really are tired today," she pleasantly chuckled.
"All thanks to you," Velma bit back.
"I said I was sorry?"
"I can see why they always ga you."
"What does that mean?" Daphne asked.
""Because you never have any helpful input. You're only good at distracting the bad guys when they kidnap you," Velma said in frustration.
"I'm not always being kidnapped," she retorted in a vexed tone.
"Oh please, you've been kidnapped some many times they could make it a category on Jeopardy."
Daphne nearly snapped back but Fred called out to them.
Without a word, they caught up with their friends, unaware of the witches listening in on their argument. The older sisters smirked while Elvina looked on in fear of what they had in mind.
"We've found our new witch," Victoria said in a cold, gleeful tone.
