Chapter 5

The Blake Witch is Born

Daphne awoke to find herself in a strange house. There was very little in it other than a shelf with a few bottles and a large cauldron over a fire in the center of the room. She then saw the three witches.

"Oh, that's just great," Daphne completely flabbergasted.

"Welcome, young lady, to our humble home," the eldest witch invited.

"That's a first."

"What's a first?" Elvina said.

"Kidnappers welcoming me to where they're keeping me hostage."

"You mean you've been kidnapped before?" Victoria said.

"Yes," Daphne said begrudgingly.

"I'm curious how you escape from these kidnappers," Mary asked.

"Almost every time I solve the mystery with my friends," she said gritting her teeth as she spoke.

"Do your friends come to save you?" Mary said.

"My 'friends' save me," she said through gritted teeth.

"Then why do you sound so angry about it?" Victoria asked.

"Because every time they do they call me something like 'Danger-Prone Daphne' or 'Helpless Daphne' and I'm sick and tired of it," she seethed, tears running down her cheeks as she finished.

"Oh, you poor thing, if only there was a way we could help you with your predicament," Victoria doted. "Oh wait, there is."

"How?"

"Why, can't you tell? We're witches," Mary revealed.

"I'm not in the mood for jokes."

"We're not joking, Daphne," Elvina assured her.

She raised an eyebrow, "Prove it."

Elvina used her magic in front of Daphne conjuring up green steam that took the form of a dove. At first, Daphen thought it was a minor illusion but touching it, she discovered it was very much real.

She gawked, "You-you're real witches."

"Correct and we would like you to join our coven," Victoria said.

"You want me to join your coven, why?"

"Because we can see that you have great potential. So, will you join us?" Mary said.

"Why would I join your coven?"

"Because you will have great powers. Powers that will ensure you will never get kidnapped, never feel helpless, again," the eldest sister encouraged her.

"Thanks, but no thanks. I don't want to be a witch."

Victoria expected her reply, and thus decided to manipulate her. "Very well, I guess you can just go back to your friends… Danger-Prone Daphne."

Daphne's left eye twitched in frustration. "Do not call me that."

"Why not, isn't it that what your friends call you?" Victoria pushed. She conjured smoky caricatures of her friends.

"Here look it's Danger-Prone Daphne." the one that looked like Velma taunted.

Shaggy's imposter laughed, "Like- I wonder how she'll get kidnapped this time?"

"Rat least rill rknow rhere's to rind rer rhen rhe screams." the smoke Scooby mocked with a chuckle.

Daphne looked at the smoke in horror as her "friends" mocked and belittled her for always being a damsel in distress. Victoria smiled knowing that very soon, this would break her. Then a cloud of smoke formed Fred.

"I can't believe she would fall for such an obvious trap," he said with a mocking laugh. Daphne looked at him with tears in her eyes. "If it wasn't for me, she would be completely helpless. She's absolutely nothing without me," he said in a smug voice.

Daphne shook her head in disbelief before falling to her knees, crying, and the smoke disappeared. She was too angry and upset to know that Fred would never say any of those things.

"There, there Daphne. I know you don't want to go back to them after everything they said," the eldest witch comforted her. "But we're offering you away out of it. Join our coven and show them how powerful you really are."

Daphne looked up as she considered the offer.

"If you don't want, then you can go back to being Danger-Prone Daphne."

Blake glared at her and held out her hand. "I accept your offer."

"Wonderful-"

"Daphne before you join us you must understand that you must become a witch first," the youngest witch interrupted.

"How do I become one?" Daphne asked.

"Simple we'll make a transformation potion," Victoria explained away.

"While we make the potion, why not you get into your new outfit," Mary suggested. She conjured a traditional black Victorian witch outfit and a matching witch hat which donned an indigo stripe.

Daphne left to change while the witches began their craft. They put seven ingredients into the black cauldron at the center of their cottage. Included in the mixture were a dead newt, the eye of a frog, and the tail of a rat. They poured the concoction into bottles each of the sisters carried, all dark green except for Elvina's which was purple. They chanted a spell.

"May thee who drink this potion be a witch," they said together.

Daphne then re-entered the room now wearing the witch outfit.

"Here you go, my dear." Mary handed over the potion.

"Once you drink this, you will be more powerful than you could ever imagine," Victoria enticed her.

Daphne put the bottle to her lips, but Elvina intervened again. "Daphne. If you do drink this potion, you'll become a witch potentially forever.

Daphne looked between her and the potion. She justified, "At least I won't be Danger-Prone Daphne anymore?" Then she drank the potion to the very last drop.

Victoria and Mary smiled while Elvina looked in horror.

Suddenly Daphne felt her stomach knot up and rumble as the magic took hold. She doubled over and screamed in agony as she felt the changes begin. Her fingers grew longer, and her soft nails became long, sharp talons. She gritted her teeth in pain as her nose stretched and her nostrils widened while two warts grew on either side. Her chin grew outwards and also donned a wart on the left side. Her hair grew longer until it passed her shoulders in a scruffy wiry mess while her eyebrows arched unnaturally. Her once pale skin turned a sickly green. She felt her headache as the magic seared her brain giving her the vast knowledge, she needed to perform magic. It reached her heart and twisted it into a wicked and cruel mess.

Once the transformation was complete Daphne stood straight and cackled in a wicked tone. The helpless damsel in distress was gone, now she was a wicked witch. A woman with dark magic and a heart full of darkness.

"Welcome to our coven, Daphne Blake," Victoria greeted and gift her a broom. "So, what's the first thing you're going to do?"

"I think I'll pay my former friends a little visit."

Victoria and Mary grinned in delight as Daphne hopped on her broom and flew off into the night sky. She cackled in a wicked glee tone. Tonight, her friends would pay for what they said about her.
