Chapter 6
Chaos at the Festival
Back at the festival, the rest of the Gang and Tim gathered after their friend had stormed off. Velma remorsefully explained the situation to Fred.
"What were you thinking?" he asked in frustration.
"I didn't mean to make her upset?"
"Did it ever occur to you that she wouldn't like being called Danger-Prone Daphne?"
"Like, we only meant it as a joke," Shaggy intervened.
"Reah, a joke," his buddy defended.
Fred shook his head and groaned in disappointment. The others looked away in guilt.
"I'm going back to the motel to make sure she's okay," Fred segued.
The remaining three members of the gang looked at each other.
"We really rid rgo roo rar rith reasing rer." Scooby stated.
"Like you said Scoob," Shaggy agreed.
Suddenly a high-pitched cackle filled the air which made the duo leap to each other in fear and shiver. All around the festival grounds, people looked up to see where the noise came from.
"What was that?" Tim asked in confusion.
"It sounded like a witch?" Velma speculated.
"Congratulations, you guessed correctly." a scratchy voice said.
The Gang looked up to see a witch riding a broom. As she flew down towards them, they saw that she had orange hair and soon they began to recognize her face and gasped in horror.
"Raphne?" Scooby called in shock.
"Thank goodness you still recognize me," she responded in a mocking tone, with her left hand on her chest. "I was worried you wouldn't."
"L-l-l-like y-y-y-you're a w-w-wi-wi-witch." Shaggy stuttered.
"But that's impossible," Tim declared.
"Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are we?" she taunted him.
Velma looked at her friend to see if there was any logical explanation for her flying broom, like wires or a small pair of rockets.
"Is something wrong, Velma?" Daphne asked rhetorically.
Dinkley stepped closer. "I'm just trying to figure out what makes the broom fly."
The witch cackled at the notion, which startled Velma. "Ah, isn't that sweet? You think this is all fake." Daphne tsked in amusement. "I bet you don't think I'm a real witch."
"Well, you might be wearing really good makeup," she nervously tried to explain away. She began to believe that her friend was truly a wicked witch.
A horrifying smirk appeared on Daphne's face. "How about I clear it up for you."
Suddenly the witch grabbed her and flew up into the air. She stopped once they were quite high up. All around people looked up at the horrifying sight.
"What in the world?" Casey asked as he reached the top of the ferry's wheel.
"Is that Daphne?" Mindy asked in confusion.
Velma looked down in fear and then back at her friend. "Ok Daphne, I believe you. You're a real witch. Now please put me down."
Daphne smiled wickedly at the terrified woman as a truly horrible idea came to her. "You think I'm a loud screamer? How about we see how loud you are?"
Velma's eyes widened as she realized what Daphne was going to do. She shook her head, but the witch let go and Velma plummeted to the ground with a blood-curdling scream. Tim dashed to catch her just in time.
She thanked him with a smile as she would be too shaken to get a word out.
Meanwhile, Fred sprinted back in the direction of the shriek.
The witch then flew down to her remaining friends who were still cowering in fear at the sight of her.
"Please, Daphne, don't hurt us," Shaggy begged.
"Re're rorry for what re said earlier," his friend apologized.
"It's a little too late for apologies," she responded. "It's time you two got what's coming to you."
"Like, what are you going to do to us?"
"You know you two have a real eating problem. Let me help you with it." Daphne said as she cast a spell on them.
The cowardly duo shut their eyes as the magic struck them. Once it was complete, they opened their eyes to the shock that they both seemed to look and feel the same.
"What rid you ro to rus?" Scooby asked nervously.
"Why don't you pick up some cotton candy and find out," she enticed them.
Shaggy picked up some and it disintegrated into dust. He picked up another and it too disintegrated. Scooby tried but the results were the same.
"Like, what-" Shaggy gawked.
"Now you two shall never again eat mortal food," Daphne said in a cold, wicked tone.
"But that means-" Shaggy said in a worried voice.
"Re'll starve to reath," Scooby said in horror. Then they held each other and cried.
"What's going on here?" a voice called.
Daphne turned around to see Fred. She zipped over to him and smiled.
"Hello Freddy," she greeted with a wicked yet loving smile.
Fred was shocked by her new grotesque features. "Daphne? What happened to you?"
"What do you think happened?"
"You're a witch," he said in horror.
"Indeed I am."
"Rred be rareful!" Scooby warned him.
"Me and Scoob can't eat because of her and she almost killed Velma." Shaggy added.
"What?" Fred asked.
Before anyone could answer him, Daphne grabbed her beau and tied him up in rope with the help of a hex.
"Fred!" the Gang shouted.
"What are you doing?" Fred cried.
"I think it's time for someone new to be rescued," Daphne declared, flying off with him.
The Gang and Tim watched as the two disappeared. They soon all pondered how they could save their friends.
