A short time later, Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia were back at the house, feeling rather dissapointed.
"So much for trying to get some extra cash for a new air conditioner," sighed Blanche, as she stired a spoon into her coffee.
"I would had hope we'd get more.
Sorry that the music store couldn't take Charlie's accordian.
I competley forgot it was broken," said Rose.
"That's OK Rose.
Say, how did Charlie break his accordain anyway?" Dorothy asked.
"Well, one year, Charlie voulenteered to play with the local polka band at St. Oalf's annual cheese feastival.
And just seeing Charlie in his leaherhosenes and matching yodler's hat, hearing him play the cheese day anthem, it well, got me feeling a bit frisky, so during a band break, we snuck behind the dunk tank, and one thing lead to another."
"That's quite enough.
We know accordians are not waterproof," Sophia stopped Rose.
"Thank you Ma.
Rose, if you feel frisky by the sound of the cheese day anthem, I don't even want to know how "Lady of Spain" makes you feel."

Dorothy got back to what she had to say.
"Anyway, getting back to our situation, even with the money I got from selling that tea set and case, we still have to figure out how to pay for the new air conditioning system."
"So what are we going to do?" asked Blanche.
"Well, there's only one thing to do."
"Dorothy turned to Sophia and said, "I'm sorry Ma, but I'm skipping the trip to California and Kevin's wedding."
"Why?" her mother asked.
"The money I was putting towards my ticket, clothes and hotel is being put to the new air conditioner.
And don't worry, I'll talk Phil into flying back and forth with you or have Gloria meet you at the airport."
"Dorothy, are you really giving up your trip to California to by a new air conditioner?" asked Blanche.
"Looks that way."
"Well, that's not fair to you Dorothy.
If you can't go on your trip, then so am I," said Rose.
"Oh Rose, that's very thoughtful of you, but what about your family reunion and your aunt's 90th birthday party?" Dorothy asked.
"Yes.
It would be selfish of me to go away, while you have to cancel your trip.
And besides, she not really my favorite aunt anyway.
They could live without my salmon souffle and halibet and cheese casserole."
"Well if you two are going to skip your trips, then I'm going to as well," said Blanche.
"Hold on.
I know how you can go on your trips and pay for a new conditioner," said Sophia.
"Ma, if this is another one of your crazy schemes, I don't want to here it," said Dorothy.
"Relax, it's not what you think.
I have something that can help us."
"What is it Sophia?" asked Rose.
"When he retired, Salvador got a great pension from his job that he put into the bank right away, and told me not to touch it at all, until the event of his passing, which made me a bit angry, because I was hoping to use some of that money for a vacation.
However, Salvador said to me, that the pension was for me to use in emergencies.
The only smart move he ever made with money.
I never touched a penny of that pension.
That is until now.
I want to give some of that money for a new air conditioner.
"Sophia, that's very sweet of you, but you don't have to do that," said Rose.
"Ma, that's your money," Dorothy added.
"Yes Sophia, that's your money to do what you want with it," said Blanche.
"Well that's what I want to do.
You three took me in, well two of you anyway."
Sophia gave Dorothy a bit of a dirty look for placing her in Shady Pines Nursing Home, to which Sophia called it a nightmare.
Her daughter then said, "Getting back to what you were saying ma."
Sophia went back to what he had to say.
"Anyway, Salvador told me to use that money for something practical, and a new air conditioner is something practical."
"Sophia, you would really do that for us?" asked Rose.
"You would use your own money to buy a new air conditioner?" asked Blanche.
"Of course.
You are my family.
Even though only one of you is my blood daughter, despite putting me in Shady Pines, I consider you two my daughters as well.
Just consider this a thank you gift."
"Thank you, Sophia.
That means so much to us," spoke Blanche.
Sophia, how sweet of you to do that," said Rose.
"You know Ma, sometimes you surprise us all.
And that's it right now," added Dorothy.
"Alright, cut back on the sentiments.
I'm giving you money to buy a new air conditioner, not donating a kidney," said Sophia.

"You know, this calls for a celebration," said Blanche, which meant once again, time to break out a cheesecake.
"I'll get the plates and forks," said Rose.
"I'll make fresh coffee," said Sophia
"I'll get the mugs and some Oreos that we can crumble on top," said Blanche.
"I'll get the cheesecake," said Dorothy.
However, when Dorothy opened the fridge, she was hit with a nasty surprise.
"Whoa!" went Dorothy.
"Dorothy, what's wrong?" Blanche asked.
"I think we have another problem.
Either the fridge died, or Rose made her tuna surprise again."
Blanche approached Dorothy and the two began to inspect the fridge.
"Well I don't believe it," said Blanche.
"What's wrong?" asked Rose.
"The fridge has died, and all the food has spoiled."
"First the air conditioner, now the fridge."
"Looks like we have two items that need to be replaced," said Dorothy.
"What such rotten luck," added Blanche.
"So, what are we going to do about the fridge?" asked Rose.
Rose, Blanche, and Dorothy all turned to Sophia, hoping that she would have a solution to the newly added situation.
"Don't look at me.
I'll take care of the new air conditioner, but you three are on your own for the fridge," said Sophia, as she exited the kitchen.

The End
