Life's second Chance
Chapter 1: The amber liquid
After the failure of the search for the mystery Princess, as per his promise, the Prince had to marry the Princess Chelina, changing the Prince forever. The once charming and happy Prince turned into a sad and serious king, who was very easily frustrated by his new queen's company as she left no stone unturned to make him feel inferior to her comparing her large Kingdom of Zaragoza with his smaller one.
The first two months of marriage were tolerable, the Princess got pregnant but she started to regret their decision to marry the Prince as she could have married into a bigger Kingdom. The fights between the couple become too frequent, where the Prince usually just heard her non stop rent of how he was the biggest mistake of her life with a glass of whiskey in his hand. For the sake of the baby, as the Princess was pregnant, he would not respond back to her and tried not to face her, the less she saw of him, the less they fought.
One evening, the Prince wasn't even present at the dinner table. The captain was deeply concerned about the Prince, and also concerned about the fact that the Princess showed absolutely no sign of concern for the king.
Your Highness, where is the king? Is he doing well? Asked the captain.
Oh yes, he is very well, must be somewhere in the palace drinking his Brandy or whisky, or whatever he drinks. The Princess responded carelessly, insulting the King in front of the high rank officials that were present there. The captain looked at the grand duke and sighed, he had clearly made a mistake suggesting his alliance. The captain wanted to get up and leave the room to go check on the king but that will be very disrespectful to the queen, so he finished his meal and took his leave.
Meanwhile, in the royal study was the king seated on his grand chair behind the desk, surrounded by the most exquisite furniture. His sorrowful blue eyes were staring at the amber liquid that was in his glass, Thinking about the few moments that he and the mystery Princess had spent. Few moments?! He thought. He only met her twice, once at the forest and the second and maybe, he now believed, the last time at the ball,As he never ever heard a word about her after the ball.
His eyes began seeing Ella's smiling innocent face in the amber liquid of his glass.
You! You are the reason of my pain... if only you came to me, if only I could find you, I would be living a better life, a much better life. He almost cried to the beautiful face in the amber liquid.
After staring at the remedy for his broken soul he gulped it down raw, closing his eyes and placing the clear glass on the desk. He was starting to get drunk, as he already had a couple of shots of his amber liquid before, but he still managed to pour himself another drink in his crystal clear glass. At that moment, entered the captain in the study and walked towards the king and picked up his bottle from the desk.
Captain my bottle! The king said with a serious yet drunk voice.
Your majesty, what are you doing to yourself? What have you become?
Oh! I am fine Captain ! I am very well! I have attended all my royal duties during the day and I think I have earned myself a moment of solitude. He said, staring and caressing his glass of whisky lovingly by the end of his response. In that moment the captain realised how much the young king he loved his whisky.
Is that how much you love your whisky your Highness? Asked the captain and the king let out a brief laugh.
Every time I look at this glass it tells me to be kind and have courage, that's why I need to have this glass with me, so it can constantly tell me to be so.
The king was now smiling with his red and sad eyes, still staring at his beautiful amber liquid, he had never said the reason of him drinking out loud, and so true reason it was. He saw Ella face fading away in the drink only to be replaced with all their moments together being played in front of his eyes in that very whisky glass he so adored. His eyes filled with tears, this had never happened before to him, to see the past in front of his eyes in that amber liquid , seeing their first meeting in the forest on their horses and watching them dance at the ball. Kit couldn't hold it longer, he got up in anger and smashed his hands on the table on each side of his drink frustrated and shouted nearly crying:
This should have never happened! She couldn't have just vanished into the thin air! The Prince shouted his lungs out, and then lowered his head in defeat, the captain placed his bottle back on the desk and placed his hand on the kings shoulder, he was feeling so badly for the king, he didn't deserve to be treated like that by his own wife. He then left the study closing the door so that nobody can disturb his solitude, knowing very well that he will again fall asleep in his study not in his bedroom just like in the past months.
Why? Why me? Why give me a dream, hope, and then leave, never ever coming back! He cried to himself until he sat down on his chair, lifting his head up to see the transparent glass filled with both his illness and his medicine.
Months passed by, but the kings habits didn't altered at all, nor did the Queens behaviour towards her husband. The queen delivered a healthy baby girl, Isabella, who quickly became the kings only happiness, he used to spend most of his free time in the nursery playing with her, but the queen was very much ignorant of her own child, giving more importance to dress in the latest fashion and that her jewels were the most exclusive ones. But even after the birth of his child, he never missed the daily appointment with his amber elixir.
After a few months, many people in the Kingdom were getting a deadly fever, some survived it, most of them perished Due to the illness. The queen got the fever as well, but in her case, sadly, she couldn't survive it. Days passed by, weeks passed by, months passed by. The King's daughter was growing up really fast, he thought, seated on the edge of the swing while watching Isabella play with her toys in The Secret Garden, the place he most adored. Many thought, she was the kings identical reflection, as she had his ocean blue eyes and dark brown curly hair.
