Year 1 Part 4 (chapter 4)
Word count: 1.6k
After Severus has left the girls' bathroom, he walks straight to his private chambers. He hisses in pain when he sits down on his couch.
He decides to check his wound. Thank Merlin that stupid three-headed dog didn't bite too harshly - it could have easily bitten off his whole damn leg if he hadn't left the corridor as quickly as he did.
He levitates a potion into his hands - a Wound-Cleaning Potion. He takes a deep breath before slowly applying the potion onto the wound. He almost screams in pain when it touches his skin. It stings quite badly.
After a few minutes, the stinging finally decreases. He debates with himself whether or not he should go to Poppy Pomfrey in the Hospital Wing.
He however decides against it. The potion should be enough, he will just let the wound heal on its own.
He can't help but wonder - did Quirrell indeed try to steal the Stone? He will need to keep a good eye on him.
Exhaustion takes over his body as he falls asleep on the couch.
--
The next morning, Severus groans. Great, he got a backache from sleeping on the damn couch.
He sighs as he stands up and gets himself ready for the day. He then limps towards the Great Hall.
As he sits down and ignores Quirrell and his annoying stammering, he notices his Godson and his friends sitting next to Y/L/N. The girl looks quite shy being around them, but answers when Draco asks her something. Severus wonders what he just asked her.
He's suddenly reminded of what day it is today - the day where Slytherin will once again win against Gryffindor in the Quidditch match.
Severus only watches the matches when Slytherin is playing. He doesn't care, at all, about the other Houses.
He then growls to himself when he realises something - Potter is the new Seeker of the Gryffindor team.
When he's finished with his meal, he slowly limps towards the Gryffindor table.
"Good luck today, Potter. Then again, now that you have proven yourself against a troll, a little game of Quidditch should be easy work for you. Even if it is against Slytherin" the Potions Master says, looking at Potter and his two friends before quickly limping away.
As he's leaving, he can't help but smirk a bit. There's no way that Gryffindor will beat Slytherin today.
--
Later that day, it's finally time - Slytherin against Gryffindor.
At the Quidditch Stadium, Severus is sitting among his colleagues in the tribune reserved for teachers.
Quirrell is sitting behind him, thank Merlin for that. It's bad enough that he has to sit next to the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in the Great Hall, he doesn't want to sit next to him here as well.
Everyone is looking at the Quidditch pitch, waiting for the players to enter. Severus notices Y/L/N sitting next to Draco. He wonders if that was what the boy asked - for her to sit next to him.
His train of thoughts is interrupted as all the players fly inside the pitch and into their positions. High up in the air are the two Seekers - Terence Higgs from the Slytherin team and, of course, Harry Potter from the Gryffindor team.
As the game starts, Severus ignores Lee Jordan's commentary and keeps an eye on Potter. Something better not happen because he is in the game...
He growls when he hears that Gryffindor gains ten points. Another ten points.
He however smirks when Slytherin gains ten points. Ten more points.
As Potter is chasing the Golden Snitch, his broom starts acting weird out of the blue.
Severus unconsciously looks behind him - Quirrell is indeed jinxing Potter's broom. He's looking quite concentrated while looking at the boy without blinking.
He's folding his hands as if he's praying to Merlin that Potter falls off his broom and breaks his neck.
Severus quickly concentrates on Potter's broom, muttering the counter-curse. While he's trying to save the boy, he doesn't notice that his cloak is suddenly on fire.
"Fire! You are on fire!" a man next to him yells while another man touches his shoulder to gain his attention.
When Severus finally notices, he quickly stands up and stomps his foot on the burning cloak to stop the fire.
As he does so, he doesn't notice that he accidentally pushes one of the men back down on his seat. That man just happens to knock Quirrell down.
Potter immediately regains control of his broom as he continues his search for the Golden Snitch. He quickly finds it, but thankfully, so does Higgs. They are competing to get it before the other one does.
Potter stretches out his hand to catch it. He however tips over on his broom and rolls around on the ground of the pitch.
The boy suddenly holds his stomach. Great, he apparently has to vomit now.
However, instead, the Golden Snitch pops out of his mouth. "Gryffindor wins!" Rolanda Hooch announces.
All the Gryffindors are cheering while all the Slytherins look absolutely disappointed.
Draco is clearly miserable that his team lost. Y/L/N gently comforts the boy, probably telling him that they will win next time.
Meanwhile, Severus is completely dumbfounded. Slytherin lost? If he hadn't saved the boy, they would probably have won...
Quirrell will pay for this.
After that horrible match, Severus retreats to the Potions classroom. He's absolutely furious. He's too furious to grade any papers right now.
Sighing, he sits down on his seat by his desk and takes his head into his hands. Slytherin lost. Slytherin just lost... to GRYFFINDOR.
Suddenly, a knock on the door can be heard.
"Enter" the Potions Master growls, not even trying to hide his anger.
The door immediately opens to reveal his Godson. "I can't believe it! We just lost to Gryffindor! How in Merlin's name could we lose to those idiots?" the boy asks as he sighs in annoyance.
Severus sighs as well as he gestures for him to sit down on a nearby chair. Draco immediately does so.
"I know. I cannot believe it either. If only Potter hadn't caught the Snitch..." Severus mutters in irritation.
Draco huffs. "Too bad he didn't fall off his broom" he says.
Severus can't help but smirk, nodding at his Godson's words. "Indeed. By the way, I noticed you sat next to Y/L/N today. How come?" he questions the boy curiously.
Draco smiles at that. "Well, first off, she's a Slytherin - we have to stick together, you know? Parkinson, Zabini, Crabbe, Goyle and I have decided to try and befriend her. I'm sure you have already noticed, but she's extremely shy. I think it's rather cute. She doesn't say that much, but I actually made her laugh today when I made a joke about Potter" he says, looking smug.
Severus smirks. "Cute, huh?" he teases him.
The boy's face turns red. "I didn't mean it like that! I only see her as a friend" Draco says as he crosses his arms, looking annoyed at his Godfather. Severus quietly chuckles at that.
The boy then clears his throat. "Anyway, Father is asking how you have been. He's hoping that you will join us this Christmas" Draco says, hoping that he will say yes.
Severus sighs. "I'm afraid I can't. This year has already proven too much for me. Perhaps next time" he excuses.
Draco slowly nods. "Father will be disappointed, but I'm sure he will understand. By the way, speaking of Y/L/N, she has actually recently started reading in the common room - that's definitely an improvement, she's usually in the library" the boy explains as he laughs.
Severus raises an eyebrow. "Is that so? She does seem to read quite a lot" he says.
Draco nods. "Yes, she does. And I'm not even lying, I think Potions is her favourite subject. That, and Herbology. I swear, she knows every plant and their abilities. She's quite smart. However, in contrast to Granger, she doesn't brag about it. Granger's quite annoying, that stupid Mudblood" he mutters.
If Severus wasn't so distressed about Slytherin losing, he would immediately have corrected his Godson calling Granger a Mudblood.
He however agrees with the boy's statement. That foolish girl keeps putting her hand up ALL THE TIME. He refuses to let her answer the questions - he knows that he will just get the exact definition straight out of the textbook.
He wonders if Y/L/N would answer with her own words or talk like a damn dictionary as well.
"Not only is Y/L/N smart, she's kind as well. People have started calling her 'the Kind Slytherin' which suits her. I wonder what her father would say about that nickname" Draco says as he once again laughs.
That caught Severus' attention. "Her father? Do you know her father?" he questions, looking curious. Maybe he can finally know where he has heard that last name before.
"Of course I do. Father works with him. His name is-" the boy starts just as a loud knock can be heard.
That irritates Severus. "Enter" he growls.
Pansy Parkinson enters the room. "Sorry to interrupt you, sir. Draco promised to play Wizard Chess with Blaise" she politely says.
Draco widens his eyes at that. "I forgot that! Sorry, professor, I will have to leave now. I'll tell Father that you said hi!" he promises as he quickly leaves with Parkinson.
Once they are gone, Severus groans. Draco didn't tell the name of Y/L/N's father! Will he ever know? Well, only time will tell.
