Warning: Attempted murder

A few weeks later, Severus is teaching the second-year Slytherins and Gryffindors how to brew Hair-Raising Potion. They have just had to write an assignment on how to brew this very potion.

The Potions Master returns their graded papers with a flick of his wand.

Weasley groans. "T! No bloody way!" he exclaims.

Potter is not looking too happy either - he did get T for Troll as well, after all, so why would he be anything but disappointed? Well, do a better job next time!

Severus watches the students' reactions. Longbottom looks quite pale - he got T as well.

Granger looks a bit disappointed. She probably expected O, but she only got EE for Exceeds Expectations.

Draco looks quite smug. With good reason, of course. The boy got O. Severus didn't expect anything less as he is the Potions Master's Godson.

Y/L/N smiles at her paper. She got O as well, of course. Her paper was by far the best. Severus was impressed when he read it.

After a while, he decides to start the lesson. "Now, you will be brewing the potion. As you have written the assignment on the process of its brewing, this should be easy for you. Begin" he orders.

All the students get to work as they grab a cauldron and gather the ingredients. As they are brewing, Severus paces around them to inspect their work.

"You will need rat tails, Potter" he says with irritation. The boy sighs before walking towards the shelf to gather the ingredient.

Severus then walks towards Y/L/N and Draco. Of course, they are already done - and their potions are perfect.

"Well done, Ms. Y/L/N, Mr. Malfoy. Ten points to Slytherin" he says as he praises them.

He doesn't even bother looking at Granger's cauldron. The girl is excellent at brewing, but Severus refuses to give points to Gryffindor.

He then inspects Longbottom's potion... Which for some reason is blue instead of green.

He growls. "You added too many rat tails, Longbottom. Five points from Gryffindor" he snaps.

The boy looks like he's about to cry. Pathetic.

"Class dismissed" the Potions Master declares.

All the students hurry out of the classroom except for Draco. "I will see you in the common room, Y/N. I will just talk to Professor Snape first" the boy tells his friend.

The girl nods. "All right, Draco. Have a good day, professor" Y/L/N says as she shyly smiles before leaving the room.

"So, how did the Quidditch practice go?" Severus asks. He really hopes that they will win this match.

Draco smirks. "It went well. You should have seen the Gryffindors' faces when Flint gave Wood your note. They couldn't believe that they weren't going to practice today. And their faces when they saw the brooms that Father bought for us! Their expressions were priceless!" he says as he laughs.

"Oh, and guess what - Weasley tried to hex me today, but the spell backfired as his wand is broken and hit him instead. The idiot was vomiting slugs up!" the boy adds, laughing even more.

"Spare me the details" Severus says, looking disgusted.

He then sits down on his chair. "So your father will come to Hogwarts to watch the game, huh?" he questions.

He wonders if he will finally have the opportunity to get to know what happened to Y/L/N's mother. Or better yet - where he has heard her last name before.

Draco nods. "Yes, I can't wait - he will be so proud when we beat those stupid Gryffindors!" he confidently says.

Severus smirks at that. "Well, you better win - I can't have Professor McGonagall pester me once again about her team winning" he says as he sighs.

The two Head of Houses are constantly competing with which team will win.

The boy smiles. "Don't worry, we will win" he assures him.

"By the way, did Y/L/N go to the manor this summer?" Severus questions the boy curiously.

Draco sighs. "Father approved, of course - but Y/N's father didn't. He came to the manor to yell at Father, saying something with 'You know why I don't want her here!'. So, we went to her home instead" he explains as he shrugs.

That confuses Severus. Why would Y/L/N's father not want her at Malfoy Manor?

She did mention that she believes her father is jealous of Lucius, but could it really be because of jealousy?

Deciding not to ask further, he bids his Godson goodbye before the boy leaves the classroom. As Severus is in deep thought, he can't help but think that something will once again happen to Potter during the Quidditch match.

--

Two months later, it's finally time - the Quidditch match between Slytherin and Gryffindor.

As Severus heads towards the Quidditch Stadium to enter the staff tribune, he hears the familiar sound of a cane.

He spots the man he has been waiting for - Lucius Malfoy.

"Ah, Severus, there you are. I was beginning to think you wouldn't come. I hope you don't mind that I will sit next to you on the tribune. I refuse to sit between your colleagues" Lucius states, giving a disgusted look at the mention of the Head of Slytherin's colleagues.

"Of course I don't mind. I have been meaning to talk to you, anyway" Severus tells him as the two of them are walking up the stairs to the tribune.

Lucius chuckles. "So you miss coming to the manor, huh?" he teases.

Severus huffs. "Well, I do miss your firewhiskey... But I actually wanted to discuss something else" he says before they sit down on their seats.

"Hmm? And what might that be?" Lucius questions curiously.

"Well, Draco mentioned that you know Y/N Y/L/N's father. You work with him, correct?" Severus asks. He hopes that Lucius can give him some information.

"Yes, that is correct. Why do you ask?" Lucius asks as he raises an eyebrow.

"Well, the girl mentioned that her father works quite often. She however doesn't know what his work is exactly" Severus explains.

Lucius nods at that. "Yes, Y/F/N Y/L/N works quite often. I'm sure you already know what his job is since it's quite secretive," he starts.

"And he works on Christmas every year - I honestly feel sorry for his daughter. Every time Cissy and I offer to have her at the manor during Christmas, the stubborn man refuses. I do know that he just wishes the best for her ever since her mother died, but still" he says, shrugging.

"However, I am glad that Draco and Ms. Y/L/N have become friends here at Hogwarts now that her father forbids her to step a foot inside the manor" he adds as he sighs.

That surprises Severus who raises an eyebrow. Y/F/N? He feels like he has heard that name before, but is unsure from where.

"Really? Do you know how his wife died, by the way?" Severus asks.

Lucius looks quite surprised. So surprised that he almost drops his cane.

"Of course I do. So do you, Severus. You were there that night. Don't you remember?" he asks, still looking surprised by the Potions Master's question.

Severus looks puzzled by Lucius' words - was he there that night? Maybe that's why the last name sounds so familiar.

But he would have remembered if he witnessed any accidents, right?

Unless it wasn't an accident...

Before Severus can ask any more questions, the Quidditch game starts.

Both Lucius and the Head of Slytherin look very pleased when Slytherin gains ten points quite early into the game.

A few minutes later, Potter is in trouble - of course.

A Bludger seems to be targeting the Boy Who Lived as it keeps following him, trying to hit him. The boy keeps dodging and dodging, but it never seems to stop.

As Draco seems to be taunting Potter, the boy doesn't notice that the Golden Snitch is right behind him. Focus, you dunderhead!

Of course, Potter notices it. Just then, the Bludger is flying towards the boys. Both of them are quick to dodge.

An annoying first-year Gryffindor is quite close to the pitch as he's taking a photograph of Potter and Draco chasing the Golden Snitch. The Bludger almost hits the foolish boy.

Out of the blue, Draco loses his balance and flies off his broom, hitting the ground hard. He lands right where it hurts.

Lucius looks quite disappointed and humiliated. Almost more humiliated than his son, in fact.

As Potter is about to catch the Snitch, the Bludger hits his hand.

He however keeps going and catches it with his other hand. He falls onto the ground, still holding the Snitch.

"Harry Potter caught the Snitch! GRYFFINDOR WINS!" Lee Jordan announces as the game ends.

Severus can't believe it. Slytherin lost... again.

Suddenly, the Bludger tries to attack Potter once more. Granger quickly destroys it before it can do any more attempts.

Lockhart walks towards the injured boy. He seems to be trying to fix his broken arm... Trying.

Once the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher says his spell out loud, the boy's arm seems to turn jelly-like. Did that imbecile just remove all the bones in his arm?

Potter and Draco are then taken to the Hospital Wing. Granger and Weasley are following behind Potter while Crabbe, Goyle and Y/L/N are following behind Draco.

Lucius is not happy. "Whatever tried to kill Mr. Potter almost killed my son... This better be investigated" he says through gritted teeth as he looks at the Headmaster.

"Of course, Lucius. The wellbeing of the students is our priority after all" Albus assures the angry father.

Lucius sighs in annoyance. "Keep me updated on how Draco is doing, Severus. I have to get back to the Ministry" he states as he looks at the Potions Master.

"I will, Lucius" Severus promises as he nods.

The blonde-haired man leaves, stomping away as his cane hits the ground hard after each step.

Severus sighs. He wonders what, or who, just tried to kill the Boy Who Lived.
