A.N: Hello, everyone! This is my entry for Day Three of Franmaya Week 2022 with today's prompt being "Confession." I hope you enjoy reading this oneshot!

Day Three: The Feelings I Hold Inside (And Who I Really Am)

"What should I do, Nick?! I'm so nervous!"

The defense attorney crossed his arms. "Then maybe you should have thought about it before! This is what happens when you act before thinking, you idiot!"

"Ha, that's rich coming from you, dumbass!" Maya replied, finding herself less nervous by insulting her best friend. This was usual banter between the two. "I don't even know why I'm asking you, actually! You haven't had a date in centuries, you old man!"

Phoenix shrugged. "Then you deal with your own mess on your own, Ms. Fey," he said with a pout. "All I know is that you were reckless. And for the record, I haven't had any dates in a while because I was too busy saving a certain someone here!"

"Now that's a cheap shot! You're jealous because no one wants to date you, Mr. I'm-too-busy-with-being-a-hero!"

"A-Are you two fighting…?"

Both Phoenix and Maya were startled as Pearl entered the office, biting her nails nervously. They quickly understood the source of her worries.

"N-No, we aren't!" Phoenix quickly said, glaring at his assistant. "We were just disagreeing about a little something, that's all."

"Y-Yeah, that's right!" the older spirit medium added, going along with his lie. "Y-You don't need to worry about a thing, Pearly!"

It was pretty clear that the little girl didn't believe a word of what her guardians had just said, but she still nodded. "O-Okay, then. S-Shouldn't you be going soon, Mystic Maya?"

"R-Right, I really should," she agreed, taking a deep breath. "I-Is my hair right, Nick? A-And my make-up, too…?"

The defense attorney shook his head and chuckled. Maya could be adorable sometimes. "You're looking just fine, Maya. Don't worry about it so much, okay? Anyone would be stupid to reject you."

"You're beautiful, Mystic Maya!" Pearl said in encouragement. "You're the prettiest person I know! And you're second, Mr. Nick!"

The two friends blushed at the compliment. This was unexpected, but it made them both smile. With a last word of goodbye to her cousin and best friend, Maya grabbed her purse and, with a nervous handwave, left the Wright & Co. Law Offices.

"It's unusual to see you so nervous, Franziska."

The sound of whiplashes echoed around the office, forcing everyone to be on high alert to dodge. "Y-You fool! I-I don't remember asking for your foolish opinion, you foolish fool!"

"Mr. Edgeworth is kinda right, though," Kay added with a shrug, dodging the whip with ease. "Going on a date is nothing to stress over, Ms. von Karma. Not that Mr. Edgeworth knows anything about that."

The blue-haired prosecutor laughed at that, as did the detective in the trenchcoat in the corner of the room.

"That was uncalled for, Kay," Edgeworth told his assistant with a sigh. "I apologize if this remark put you on edge, Franziska. I just meant to state a fact."

Gumshoe scratched his temple. "I-I think you're making it worse, Mr. Edgeworth, sir…" he told his boss, seeing the fury in the whip-yielding woman's eyes increase. "Maybe I can give you some advice, Ms. von Karma, sir."

"You are the last person in the world I want advice from, Scruffy!" Franziska reminded him, turning her glare from her brother to the detective. "And I don't require your help either, Kay Faraday! The three of you are absolute fools!"

"Well, perhaps we are, but we're not the ones being a sweaty mess because of a silly little date!" the Yatagarasu teased, sticking her tongue out. "What's up with you prosecutors and sucking at feelings?!"

"I-I didn't need to be involved in this!" Edgeworth exclaimed, almost choking on his tea. "In any case, considering who you are meeting with, Franziska, I don't believe you need to be nervous."

"Easy for you to say, Miles Edgeworth!"

The three friends sweatdropped. They noticed how they were going in circles. Unfortunately, this was often the case whenever they got on the prodigious prosecutor's nerves.

"Kick her out of my office, Detective," Edgeworth said, knowing damn well this wasn't going anywhere. "Kay, you help the big guy."

The veteran detective and the gentleman thief nodded in understanding, even if they both gulped.

"Was zum Teufel, Miles Edgeworth?!" Franziska exclaimed furiously, readying her whip once more. However, Gumshoe's hand stopped her before she could do that. "D-Don't touch me, Scruffy! Y-You'll sleep in the streets if you do!"

"I-I'm sorry, sir, but these are Mr. Edgeworth's orders," Gumshoe apologized. "A-And I think you are too angry to stay here. B-Besides, won't you be late if you don't get going…?"

Edgeworth nodded, observing from his desk as his sister struggled. "Correct. You wouldn't want to be late, Franziska. Go now. I will take care of your paperwork if this can help you cool down."

The German prosecutor stared daggers at her little brother as she was escorted out of the office by his two assistants. At least she wasn't nervous anymore, just furious.

"I apologize for my tardiness. A bunch of foolish fools got on my nerves."

Franziska sat on the chair opposite Maya's, still cooling down from the incident in her brother's office. Maya giggled when the other girl ran a hand through her short blue hair, obviously more angry than nervous.

The two girls had agreed to meet up at a café somewhere between the Prosecutor's Office and the Wright & Co. Law Offices. It was somewhere pretty quiet without too many people around to bother them.

And, of course, the exact location was something no one else knew. Neither Maya nor Franziska wanted anyone to show up to mess with them.

"It's okay, don't worry," the spirit medium could reply serenely, feeling her nerves going away. "So, how are you doing, Franziska?"

She rolled her eyes. "Fine, Maya Fey. How about you?"

Maya fiddled with a strand of her black hair as she smiled. "I'm good, thanks. Thank you for agreeing to this, by the way. You must be busy with all your work."

"Yes, indeed," Franziska didn't deny, sighing. "Still, some time away from these foolish fools at the Prosecutor's Office won't harm me. Even if it is to meet with another fool, mind you."

The prosecutor smirked at Maya, who sweatdropped in response. With such a comment, there could be no doubt that the girl in front of her was Franziska von Karma. But this was the Franziska whom Maya had developed feelings for.

If anything, she found it endearing that Franziska could make these remarks with a smile nowadays. It definitely changed from the Franziska von Karma she had first encountered.

"What have you been up to since the last time we've seen each other, Maya Fey?" the prosecutor asked, seemingly relaxing by the second. "Dealing with Phoenix Wright's foolishness, I presume?"

"That's a given," Maya replied with a laugh. "More seriously, we took a little vacation. Nick was exhausted from all the cases he's taken recently, and both Pearly and I needed rest after Hazakurain."

"Hm… I see." Franziska sighed again. "I don't think I got a chance to express my condolences to you yet. I'm sorry for your loss, Maya Fey."

Maya smiled. The prosecutorial prodigy could see it hid some sadness, but she admired her date's ability to fight through it. "Thank you, Franziska. That's really kind of you. To be honest… grieving isn't easy, especially since I never truly got a chance to grieve Sis's death, but I'm moving forward, slowly but surely."

"Well, that's something I would very much like to say for myself…" the short-haired girl muttered. "Perhaps you'll believe this is out-of-character for me to say, but I realize that you are far stronger than I am in many aspects, Maya Fey."

"Ha, good one!" the spirit medium said with a dismissive laugh. "Don't say ridiculous things, Franziska. I wouldn't be able to do a tenth of what you can do. People like you, Nick, or Mr. Edgeworth are amazing because… you don't ever feel overwhelmed, even when there's a lot of pressure." She scratched her temple embarrassedly. "On the other hand, I tend to start crying when things get bad."

"Well," At that moment, Franziska hesitated. She had feelings for the spirit medium, as hard as it had been to accept it. Did that mean she was willing to let go of her pride before her, though? "I am going to tell you something, Maya Fey. If I ever hear you told someone else, I shall whip you to death."

Maya's eyes widened in fear. "I-I'll be as silent as the grave!" she promised, shuddering. "N-Not because I'm scared or anything…!"

Franziska shook her head. Maya could be funny, even if it wasn't always intentional. "Alright, then. I will undoubtedly regret saying this, but if you promise to remain silent… I do cry from time to time, too. Miles Edgeworth is the only one to know this, meaning I must keep him silent, too."

Surprisingly, Maya only shrugged. The prosecutor had expected her to laugh and say something along the lines of "Well, shows you aren't as strong as you want people to believe!" However, she said none of those things.

"Who doesn't? Believe me, I don't think there's a single person on this planet who never cries," Maya argued, still playing with her hair. "I just feel embarrassed because I cry when I should be strong. Like, if you were observing me during my trial, you must have seen how much I cried."

At this moment, Franziska did feel like crying. This was the one topic she wanted to avoid at all costs. She was okay with talking about everything else, but this hurt like a dagger to the heart. She looked away in shame, unable to keep her composure.

It didn't take the spirit medium more than a few seconds to realize that. "O-Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make things awkward or bring up any bad memories, I swear!"

What hurt Franziska so much about this memory was how conflicted it made her feel. On the one hand, it was the day of her first defeat, when she had officially lost her perfect record. This made her unworthy of being a von Karma. On the other hand, it was the day she had tried to send Maya to her death. This made her feel unworthy of having feelings for her.

It was just too cruel.

"I… I regret my decisions, Maya Fey," she admitted, avoiding the other young woman's eyes. "I know it is foolish of me to say it now, but I regret prosecuting you back then. If you must know… right after the trial concluded, I hoped you would die."

Maya gasped in shock. This was unexpected. It made her wonder how their casual chat had turned into whatever this was. Of course, it made Maya sad. To know that someone had wished for her death was painful.

What made it worse was that, unlike Dahlia Hawthorne or Morgan Fey, Maya knew Franziska wasn't an evil person. She couldn't have cared less that two demons had wished for her to die. However, knowing that Franziska had also made that wish wasn't as easy to take in.

"Losing was supposed to be impossible for me," Franziska continued, revealing a new side of her to the surprised Maya. "I was so obsessed with defeating Phoenix Wright and avenging my Papa that I lost sight of what I was a prosecutor for." She covered her face with her hands. "I wish to apologize, Maya Fey. I acted like a fool, and I feel ashamed."

There was a long moment of silence after that. A bartender approached their table but, after sensing the tension, walked away without a word. Franziska blamed herself for this. Her goal was to try to get closer to Maya. Instead, she had managed to make her more distant.

"What's up with you prosecutors and sucking at feelings?!"

Kay's words from earlier echoed in her mind. Franziska realized it could have been wise for her to listen to the gentleman thief's words more closely. After all, she hit the nail on the head: she did suck at feelings.

"It's okay. You've changed, and it's what matters. I'm sure Mr. Edgeworth had it in for Nick and me when he first lost. I don't like you any less for that, Franziska. And, to be honest… there was a time when I really hated your guts, too. But now I know better."

Maya's voice interrupted Franziska's train of thought. She was surprised to see a smile on her face. After all, she had just confessed to wishing for her death once. She figured that ought to earn her some resentment.

"You can't mean that," Franziska told her with absolute certainty.

"I do. I'm not the type to hold on to grudges, you know?" She giggled. "My sister was the total opposite, actually. If you ever double-crossed her, she would curse you forever. But… I'm not like that." Her smile broadened as she clapped her hands together. "And you tried to save me, too, when you worked on those locks at the Inner Temple! I know I wasn't in there, but it could have saved my life!"

Not a minute ago, the spirit medium wasn't saying a word. Right now, her voice had regained its bubbly cheerfulness that Franziska found so foolish yet so adorable.

"I… I suppose so."

"I used to be so jealous of you, you know?" Maya added. "We're the same age, and yet you're so independent. Like, you work on so many high-risk cases and all… That's impressive! I thought you didn't have any weaknesses, aside from your short temper."

Franziska rolled her eyes at that. She had a feeling it would take a lot for anyone to change that. After all, her most trustworthy friend was still (and would always be) her beloved whip.

"But now I realize that you aren't some sort of robot and that you actually have feelings!" the raven-haired girl joked before laughing like an idiot. Franziska stared at her embarrassedly. "I'm glad I got to see this side of you, Franziska, even if you used to hate me. You're cute when you show your feelings a bit more."

The prosecutor instantly blushed as she said that. "D-Do not call me cute, you fool! I-I am everything but cute!"

"Cute! Cute! Cute! Cute!" Maya teased with a proud grin. "I'm being serious here, though! You're not as heartless as you probably believe, Franziska. You have an adorable side!"

After saying that, Maya realized how she had just casually called her crush cute. She was surprised she had managed to say it without stuttering or blushing like an idiot.

"I am not adorable, Maya Fey!" Franziska insisted, crossing her arms unhappily, even if her reddening cheeks gave it away. "You are way more adorable than I am, fool!"

"I'll take that," the spirit medium said jokingly. She took a deep breath, deciding to get right to the point. She felt like the mood was good enough, and if she didn't say it now, she probably never would. "Say, Franziska… I have something to tell you. Please do not laugh until I'm done speaking, okay?"

"I wouldn't be that impolite," the prosecutor told her matter-of-factly, keeping her arms crossed and her eyes closed. "Do talk."

Maya nodded, doing her best to keep her composure. It was a do-or-die moment now! "Well, I wanted to tell you that I like you quite a bit, Franziska. Like… as more than friends."

It didn't take more than a millisecond for Franziska's eyes to pop open. "Was zum Teufel?! W-What are you saying, Maya Fey; you foolish fool?!"

The spirit medium sweatdropped at the outburst. It definitely attracted some stares from the nearby customers enjoying their drinks.

"I'm saying I have feelings for you!" she was forced to repeat, disliking that her crush was making it more difficult than she wished it was. "Romantic feelings!"

A furious blush appeared on the blue-haired prodigy's cheeks. Maya's heart melted at the adorable sight. On her end, Franziska felt like dying from embarrassment. And on top of that, her surprise exceeded any she'd ever felt before.

Maya Fey had just told her she liked her. Romantically. That foolish fool had feelings of the romantic kind for her. She was in complete disbelief.

"F-Fool! Y-You cannot say that so casually!" she complained, her whip cracking on the ground. The stutter was new, and it made Maya feel a little hot. "A-Aren't you embarrassed to say something like that?!"

Maya's lips turned downwards. "Does that mean I'm getting rejected…?"

"I-I haven't said that! D-Don't put words into my mouth, you fool!" Franziska warned her, blushing too much for her threats to be taken seriously. "I-In fact, there is a chance I might entertain feelings of the same kind towards you, too! B-But you still didn't need to say it like this, Maya Fey!"

The other girl's eyes widened. "Y-You do?! F-For real?! Y-You aren't pulling my leg, are you?!"

"I wouldn't do that, you fool!" She grumbled, avoiding her crush's eyes. "I have known lots of fools in my life, but you take the cake, Maya Fey!"

"Foolish and proud of it!" Maya declared with a grin. She was so relieved. After all, the odds were slim, but she had shot her shot, and it had paid off! "M-More seriously, I'm happy, Franziska! I would never have thought you would like me!"

"That is my line, Maya Fey," Franziska stated, regaining her composure quickly. At least her voice was calmer. Her face was still a little pink. "You are a fool for liking me. There is nothing likable about me.

Maya pouted. "That's not true! There are a million things to like about you, Franziska!"

She went on to enumerate a seemingly endless list of things she liked about the prosecutor. Notably, Maya listed her courage, her independence, and her looks.

"Foolish. All of it."

"Hey, don't complain! I'm literally telling you why I like you!" Maya reminded her, puffing her cheeks. "If you're not happy, I can just go back home!"

"N-No!" Franziska quickly exclaimed, making Maya smile fondly. "I just have a hard time believing it. You see… being praised wasn't exactly something I experienced as a child. You could call it a downside of being a von Karma."

"Well, I'll be sure to praise you as much as you deserve!" the spirit medium said with enthusiasm, easing off the prosecutor's worries. "But for now, let's have a drink! We didn't come to a café not to drink, right?"

Franziska nodded. "Correct. I appreciate that we could talk like this, Maya Fey. I feel liberated knowing my feelings are reciprocated."

"And so do I," Maya assured her. "Let's date, okay? I can't wait to see Nick's face when I tell him you're my girlfriend now!"

"Hm, that should indeed be rather amusing," she agreed, thinking for a moment. "If Miles Edgeworth dares to laugh, I shall kill him. Won't your little cousin Pearl Fey be disappointed? I do recall she believed you and Phoenix Wright should be romantically involved, correct?"

Maya chuckled. "She understood that Nick and I weren't interested in each other that way. When she learned I had a date with you, she was thrilled. I think she's going to accept you just fine."

"I see. That is most reassuring."

"Yeah."

The two girls ordered their drinks with a shared smile and enjoyed the rest of their date together. It was weird, knowing they were now girlfriends. And yet, they both felt a new warmth in their heart that made every little bit of their confession worth it.

The End.
