Zuma was laying on his back on the grss. The sun warmed his face. Ella, Rocky, and Rubble were laying beside him. Ella was laying very close to him, but Zuma didn't mind it. She had just gotten back from her mission with Chase, Tuck and Marshall and was tell Zuma all about a cute baby that she watched.
"He was the cutest thing," Ella cooed, "He was so soft and warm. And his laugh was so sweet and made me feel all cozy inside."
"He sounds like a cool dude," Zuma replied.
"It makes me want to have pups," Ella sighed.
Zuma opened his eyes and turned to her, "Pups? With uh who dude? Do like have someone."
Ella looked at him, "Oh I uh, have someone in mind."
Zuma's heart stopped, who did Ella have in mind? The lab would never admit it out loud but he kinda liked Ella.
"Who?" Zuma asked.
Ella looked slightly uncomfortable, "It's actually…"
She was interrupted by Zuma's pup tag going of.
"Zuma and Chase to the lookout," Ryder voice called from the tag.
"Well I guess you got to go," Ella faltered., "I'll tell you later." The golden retriever got up and headed to her pup house. Zuma looked and saw Chase leaving his pup house and heading toward the entrance. Zuma trodded up to the German Shepard and the entered the elevator.
Ryder had stopped calling all the pups for every mission, and only did the full call first thing in the morning.
Chase and Zuma entered the elevator and started up. They were already in their uniforms.
"It's been a hot minute since we've been partners on a mission " Chase said, "Not since..trying to catch that prisoner who escaped and fled to the water, I think?"
"No I think it was…" Zuma thought about it for a second then remember, "It was busting those dudes illegal money printing on the cruise ship."
"Oh yeah," Chase remembered.
The elevator doors opened with a DING and Chase and Zuma walked out.
Ryder was standing at the big screen, "Glad you guys are here. Someone called saying that they might have witnessed a kidnapping. After checking some video footage they turned out to be correct. A person with a black ski mask was seen driving away on a boat with two people tied in the back, down the river near Foggy Bottom." Zuma's pup tag symbol appeared on the screen. "Zuma, I need you to rescue the two captives from the boat, and try to bring the kidnapper down." Then Chase's pup tag came up. "Chase, I need you to drive to a bridge which the kidnapper will have to drive under. Once he is under help Zuma bring the kidnapper down."
"These paws uphold the laws!" Chase called.
"Ready set get wet," Zuma said.
The two dogs ran and went down the slide onto their vehicles.
Chase set out to the bridge while Zuma headed towards the water. He pressed a button and his hovercraft turned into a speedboat. He ran off the ramp towards the water and landed with a splash then headed off toward the Foggy Bottom river.
After a couple of minutes Zuma spotted the boat racing down the river. He drove after it. Rocky had built his rudder to be nearly silent for special cases like this one. Zuma zoomed after the boat, once he was about 6 feet away from the boat. He tried squinting to see the hostages, but they were just blurred blobs.
Zuma tapped the side of his helmet to zoom in on them. He saw that they were a boy and girl about Ryder's age. The girl was in a long purple dress with a purple suit jacket draped over her shoulder. While the boy was wearing a light purple collared long-sleeved shirt, with black pants and fancy shoes. There was something fimilar about the boy, but Zuma couldn't place where he knew him from.
The kids had spotted Zuma and were making noises to get his attention. The lab let out an exasperated sigh. He got it, they were in trouble. What did they think he was doing? Just driving his boat along the river, fully dressed for a mission, coincidentally on the same one they were being kidnapped on? Plus he was a dog and he could hear them. But the kidnapper might hear them too if they kept it up. Zuma needed a way to communicate with them.
The labrador then remember that Rocky had installed a launcher.
"Ruff launcher," Zuma barked. The launcher emerged from his pack. Zuma pressed the side of his helmet, which connected to the launcher and helped with his aim.
Zuma lined up and shot a communicator to the teens. The small ball lined up perfectly and landed directly into the boy's ear. Then he shot again and it landed in the girl's ear. Then the lab popped one into his ear and a mic unfolded from it.
"Ok dudes nod if you hear me," Zuma instructed.
The two teens nodded vigorously.
"Ok good," Zuma said," I need you guys to stay calm and follow my instructions. I need you two to slowly move to the left of the boat."
The two start to make their way but we're going to the right.
"Sorry my left, your right," Zuma said.
The hostages moved to the left and Zuma slowly inched his way to the kidnapper's boat. The water was choppy and bumpy. He soon was close enough to jump in.
He then saw the teenagers faces and knew why the boy looked so familiar.
It was Harold Humdinger, Mayor Humdingers nephew. Zuma set the boat on autopilot and lept into the boat with silent paws. The driver didn't turn back. He turned to Harold and the girl and grabbed onto the back of the girl's dress, near the neck. With a giant heave he through her over board to his boat where a small compartment popped out. Then he did the same with Harold.
The lab then turned around to try and catch the driver but he wasn't at the wheel. Instead there was a wooden plank holding the wheel in place. Zuma looked around and saw no sign of the driver, but he felt it. Zuma heard and bump on the side of the boat, he walked toward it and looked over the side.
Suddenly the kidnapper jumped out and grabbed for Zuma, but the lab turned away just in time. The kidnapper swung several more times at Zuma but all Zuma narrowly dogged.
Zuma struck a blow to the guys kneecap and then to his ribs, but the guy met them with more swings. Then the kidnapper took a metal rail off of the boat and used it as a bat. Zuma looked to his left and saw the bridge that Chase was at. He just needed to hold on a little longer.
The guy used the rail and swung it at Zuma. The lab dodged some more and bit the guy's arm. The man let out a sharp inhale but kept swinging at the dog. Zuma was forced backwards The guy landed a hard blow to Zuma's chest. Zuma felt the wind get knocked out of him.
The kidnapper raised the metal rail above the labrador's head, he was about to deliver a fatal blow when there was a THUMP from behind the man.
Zuma looked up to see a bridge passing over them.
He let out a sigh of relief. The kidnapper turned around, where Chase was ready to pounce. While his back was turned Zuma leaped to the guy's back. He twisted and jerked trying to get Zuma off. Chase was down, tripping the man's feet up.
The man suddenly hit the steering wheel, which knocked the wood out of place. The boat suddenly started to spin in a circle. Zuma was flung off the guy's shoulders.
That allowed the man to focus on Chase. Zuma was looking for a place to strike next but the lab was getting dizzy.
"Zuma!" Chase called, " steady the boat!" Zuma nodded and got to work. He raced over to the steering wheel and grabbed it. He wrestled with it until finally he got the boat steady and then he stopped it. Zuma turned around to find the kidnapper on the ground and in handcuffs.
"Nice, dude," Zuma congratulated.
"You helped," Chase said, "got it started for me."
Zuma's boat pulled up to them. And the two pups untied Harold and the girl. After they were done the two hugged each other.
"Hey harold can you tell us what happened?" Chase asked.
"Well," Harold started, "I was taking Carly, my girlfriend here, to the fanciest restaurant in Foggy bottom. And on the way there this jerk, kidnapped us and put us on his stinkin boat."
"Why did you take them" Chase interogated. But the kinapper stayed quiet.
"Probably wanted to hold us for ransom to get my uncle to pay him," Harold sneered.
"Let's just get this guy to the police, "Chjase said.
"Wait aren't you the police," Carly asked.
"Yeah but we don't have a jail," Chase answered, "So we just give them to the police."
"Anyway dudes, let's get you guys somewhere safe," Zuma said.
"I'll take this guy to the Foggy Bottom station," Chase announced.
The two dogs then set off their separate ways.
Meanwhile in the bushes a dark figure watched them.
"I've been watching them for a while," The person said into a walkie talkie, "I think it's time for phase two."
