CHAPTER 7 - A Deal With the Devil
I pace back and forth as I contemplate my predicament. I've gone soft, that much is obvious. I've never once, in my entire career, hesitated to kill someone. I was created to kill, crafted to be the perfect leader no one dare challenge.
And yet something about that girl is messing with my head. It's been awhile since I've killed, so my fellow demons already thought I was slipping, and now this?
"I've put a target on my back," I think with a huff.
I need to do something quick, but what? Then another revelation hit me. Many other demons are aware of Angle, and there are many bounties on her head.
"Should I protect her?" I wonder. Unless she's really oblivious to who she is, she should know how to help. But from what I've seen, she is clueless.
I'm not surprised though. She only had just been born when she was cast out, so she had never got the chance to know who she was.
I sigh. I'll have to tell her. But I'll do it later, right now I need to deal with Marco, my employer.
I place my hand on the build 9f key blade and smile. Luckily, I have no problem with killing my own kind.
With a sick grin, I send an imp pit to summon him, and am not shocked when he appears before me within an hour.
I look at him, and it's made quickly obvious he is fuming with rage. I am unconcerned though, as he stands no chance against me. Few do.
"I hired you to kill the girl! How dare you not!" Marco yells at me.
"Didn't feel like it," I say with an unwavering expression.
He growls, and pulls out a small pistol, aiming at me. "Well since you didn't kill her, guess I'll have to. But I need you gone fi-" Marco sentence ends abruptly as his head falls to the floor with a satisfying thud.
"Should have fired quicker," I say, kicking the head to the side.
Now that he's dealt with, time to head back to Angle. I need to explain the situation to her. And even though it's against my very nature; I need to work with her.
The thought makes me clench my teeth. Why do I have to go soft on her of all people? The literal worst person possible I end up not being able to kill. Ugh, it's so frustrating.
"Maybe I should just-" my train of thought is cut off by a mental image of her asleep. The peaceful beauty, untouched by any corruption. I shake my head, since when have I ever thought like that?
"Never," I say, deciding I should probably head back to Angle.
I walk outside the building, and as I teleport back to the place I killed Angel's father, I ponder where she is. I was gone for a few hours, so she's probably gone back to the house.
But against my assumption, when I reform I find myself in front of her.
"She just stayed here?" I wonder, staring at the now unconscious form of Angel.
I debate whether or not to wake her, and decide to wait a little while. I then sit down beside her, in the same fetal position, and watch her sleep.
"Besides," I think, "I find her breathing quite soothing."
My eyes widened in shock when I realized what I just thought.
"So not only did I go soft and spare her, I'm actually beginning to like her? Ugh, this is insufferable!" I whisper, getting loader than I intended at the end.
I flinch when she stirs, but shake it off. I decided to stop being so kind to her. I have no reason anyway, so I should just get this over with.
"Wake up," I command, to which she instantly jumps and scans her surroundings.
When her eyes Leland on me she sighs, and says "Your back?"
I nod. "You are in danger," I say sternly, earning a look of fear.
"Danger? What do you mean?" She asks, obviously scared for her life just from that word.
"I'm not the only demon who knows about you, more will come looking," I warn her.
"There are more? When will they come? What do I do?" She starts spitting out questions faster than I can answer them.
"Calm down, you're safe right now. Most others think I killed you, but that won't last for long. I killed the one who hired me, so there is bound to be some suspicion. Just stay with me, and I should be able to keep you safe," I try to explain.
She nods, but I can tell she has more questions.
"We need to get out of here right now, okay? I'll answer more later. " I tell her, standing up and holding out my hand.
She grabs it, and I pull her up with ease. She looks at me in pure terror, fear driving her decisions. I pull her close to me, and hold her tightly.
"Get ready," I say.
She nods and a void forms beneath us, absorbing us into it.
We woosh through the void, and quickly pop out in an entirely new location.
I decide I should explain where we are.
"You are aware of the concept of Heaven, Hell, and the after life correct?" I question.
Angel nods, taking in the surroundings. We are in front of a house in the middle of nowhere. The house is well kept, and modern as well as fit for 1 to 3 people. This is where I tend to keep my things, as hell isn't the safest place to keep things.
I open the door, and invite her in by saying, "Come in, this is my home."
It is technically my home, so I can call it that. The house has two floors, the bottom consisting of the living room, kitchen, dining room, and a restroom. The second floor has two bedrooms, a spare room, and a bathroom in the hall.
"Guess it's a deal now…." I say, mostly as conformation. What for? I'm not exactly sure at this point.
I look at Angel and she looks at me. "A deal? For me to stay with you?" She asks.
"Yeah," I say, turning away. It's kind of her only hope since she doesn't know yet… I still don't know if I should tell her or not.
I need to exclude the whole born enemies thing, and say I could kill her if she tries to run or attack me. Hopefully this goes well.
"Okay," she says, unsure of her answer.
I need to tell her.
