Chapter 16 Forced Family
A few hours after Helen got arrested, Stephanie got a call. "Hello," she answered.
"Stephanie, it is your mom. Can you come to the TPD to bail me out, please?" Helen begged her daughter. Stephanie couldn't believe the nerve of her mother to call her. After everything the woman did to Stephanie, she was delusional if she thought Stephanie would help.
Stephanie rolled her eyes when her mom said please. It wasn't going to work on her this time. "No," Stephanie replied and hung up. She used her phone to place another call.
"Vincent Plum Bail bonds," Connie answered.
"Hi, Connie," Stephanie said. She wasn't sure how to ask Connie to refuse Helen's request for a bond.
"Hey, Stephanie, how are you feeling? Oh, before you ask, don't worry, Vinnie refuses to help your mom. He even told her so. I have a feeling that nobody is going to bail her out," Connie told Stephanie.
"Thanks, Connie," Stephanie said as she hung up. She was relieved to know Vinnie had her back. Just then, Stephanie's phone rang. She smiled when she read the caller ID. "Hey, Valerie, what's going on?" Stephanie answered while placing the call on speaker when Ranger entered the room.
"Albert is not going to represent mom. In fact, he wants to sit the second chair with the DA at her trial, with Stevens," Valerie said, getting straight to the point.
"That works for me," Ranger said. "Thank you for updating us."
"Hey, if you need anything, Steph and Carlos, let me know," Valerie said and then was gone.
Stephanie shook her head. "Albert has only worked for Rangeman for a day, and Valerie's already ignoring phone etiquette," she grumbled. Ranger tipped his head back and laughed.
In the women's cell block
"So what are you in here for?" Helen's cellmate asked her. She noticed the new woman had perfectly manicured fingernails.
"I paid someone to kidnap my daughter with that Ranger guy and Detective Morelli. All I wanted was to get her pregnant. I wanted her to become a mom, and I would be a grandmother to her child," Helen stupidly confessed.
"Wait a minute. Detective Morelli got my little sister pregnant, and then he told my little sister that she would get no financial support for his child. So my cousin Stevens killed Morelli," Helen's cellmate told her.
"Huh, okay. That's information that I did not know before," Helen said out loud.
Her cellmate said, "I am going to take a guess here and say that my cousin Stevens was supposed to kill Ranger and leave Morelli alive?"
"Yeah," Helen said, shaking her head. "Morelli was supposed to be my grandchild's father, not that thug."
"You are so dumb. Ranger is the better catch for your daughter because he is filthy rich and drops dead gorgeous," Helen's cellmate said. She couldn't understand why Helen would want a grandchild by a man whore like Morelli.
"So, Stevens did you a favor, even though you don't deserve it. Your daughter will be better off with Ranger," Helen's cellmate said. The cellmate shook her head and laid down on her bed for the night.
Helen watched her cellmate face the wall on her cot. She didn't notice the person smiling as she got Helen Plum to confess to accessory to murder in the first degree. "Stupid woman," the cellmate thought as she fell asleep.
