My Fan Fiction takes a lot of dialogue and the story lines already existing in the Supernatural universe, and simply includes my character in them. I created the character Robin Singer, and I write everything from her perspective. Please feel free to go check out the character profile.
The Hook Man. Now this was going to make for a fantastic first solo hunt story. The Hook man legend was one of the most famous urban legends of all time. Those urban legends don't just happen, there is always a source. A vengeful spirit had been murdering people in an Iowa College town, the common denominator was the local Preacher's daughter. Truth be told, this wasn't a solo hunt. She had met up with the Winchester boys, which was just as well because a solo hunt is actually dangerous. This hunt wasn't about doing it on her own, it was about doing it without her father.
She had been hunting a while with her dad, but he benched her a month ago. His claim was she made a risky move. What she believed was he couldn't handle the fact his little girl seduced a werewolf. To be fair, she did it to get the upper hand, and she did, that sucker was dead.
When she got wind of this case, she already had the itch to get back out. She decided she would pose as a sorority pledge, which was a total joke, but she pulled it off. She'd gotten close to Lori, the Preacher's daughter, but it had limited her to what she could get out of the Preacher. He saw her as one of those party girls at the sorority, corrupting his daughter and she couldn't find an in. He was definitely on her list as someone who could have summoned the spirit. Fortunately, this is where the Winchesters came in. Both had shown up at the Sunday service the day before and sold themselves as virginal good little Christian boys, especially Dean. That was an even bigger joke than her as a sorority pledge.
Sam and Dean Winchester, like her were kids who grew up in the world of hunters. They had actually grown up quite close, until their father's got into a fight and didn't speak again. Truthfully, Sam had stayed in contact, especially after he started at Stanford University. John Winchester was an odd one. Most fathers would be thrilled to have their son study to be a lawyer. Not John Winchester. This would remove his youngest child from the life and the life had consumed John. This was just one way it was very clear how different her dad and John were. Her dad tried to deter her from this life, but she was set upon it before she hit puberty.
Then of course there was Dean Winchester, truth be told there was a little sting still lingering there. Dean had tried to fulfill the big brother role for her as well as Sam had. Truth be told she had a crush on Dean before she was out of her first training bra, clearly never reciprocated. The two were separated for years, so much so when they reunited in person for the first time since their father's fight, he didn't recognize her. In truth they had spoken several times on the phone three or four years ago. This was when Robin was training and studying like a mad woman to be a hunter. She asked John for some guidance, he brushed her off and told her that her father had the best resources he'd ever seen. Dean however reached out to her and began regaling her with stories from the road. She loved these stories, held on to his every word. They were exciting and coming from him, they set her on fire. However, Dean started to include his own side conquests while on these hunts in his stories. Broken-hearted Robin stopped taking his calls and tried to forget any romantic notions she'd ever carried for him.
The three of them combined had deciphered that the spirit was a local preacher from 1862 named Jacob Karns. Dude went crazy over the red-light district and had slaughtered over a dozen prostitutes. Weapon of choice was his prosthetic hand, a silver hook. Preacher was looking really good for this. The three were deciding to divide and conquer. One group would go watch Lori's house to make sure everything was ok, and no funny business was happening. The other would go, dig up the old Preacher's remains then salt and torch them. Due to some bitterness towards Dean, Robin preferred to stick with Sam, but he would have to be the one to watch Lori in case he got caught. The two had made a connection. Sam was a sweet kid, and so he actually cared for the girl. Meanwhile Dean was pushing it for him. When she reluctantly agreed to go with Dean, he made a joke, "Don't cock block him Specks".
"Someone always has to get laid" she sneered at him, "right Winchester"?
"Specks". She hated that nick name. Dean was the only one to ever call her that. She had gotten glasses when she was nine and in true big brother fashion, Dean teased her mercilessly. Back then she did love the attention, now it irked her.
"So, what is your problem with me" Dean asked her as he shoveled another mound of dirt. She stood above the grave holding a flashlight.
"What makes you think I have a problem with you" she asked?
"The fact you're kind of a bitch to me" he asked?
"Maybe I'm just a bitch" she replied.
"I know that's not true. I remember a really sweet kid".
"Well, when I was a kid, I had a crush on you. I'm over it".
"You had a crush on me" he smiled?
"This is my problem" she snapped, "you don't take this seriously, you're too busy thinking with your dick".
"Whoa" he snapped at her and climbed out of the hole, "I don't take this seriously? Listen to me little girl, you've been on the road five minutes, this has been my whole life, so don't tell me I don't take it seriously. My dad is missing, I'm trying to find him, I take all of this very seriously".
"John is missing"?
"Yeah" he snapped, "So don't come at me all holier than thou, I don't need it".
If the shoe were on the other foot she would have been pissed too. Truth be told, these two would have had her back no questions asked too. Maybe she was a bitch. She handed him the flashlight. "Here" she said jumping into the hole, "I'll take a turn".
Even after torching the body that night, there was another attack, the Preacher this time. Sam suggested they missed something, but everything in that grave was torched.
"What about the hook" Sam asked?
"It was a prosthetic" Robin agreed, "part of his person".
"Did you see the hook" Dean asked?
Robin shook her head, "back to the library".
The trio did their research and discovered the hook had been with his "worldly effects", and therefore donated to his church, which was the same church Lori's dad was the present-day preacher at. The bad news, the silver had all been melted down a long time ago.
They made their way to the church that night, "ok, we can't take any chances" Dean explained as they set towards the buildings, "anything silver burns".
"I got the house" Sam volunteered.
"I'll hit the basement" Robin added, "get the fire going. We may need to move fast if this goes sideways".
She got to the basement and found an old wood stove. She started gathering stuff to get a fire going, and realized she had no matches. In reality, this wasn't actually an issue, as long as she was alone. She listened to hear where Dean was upstairs. She was probably good, it sounded like she was rummaging. She snapped her fingers and a small flame flickered to life on her thumb. She took some newspaper lit it up and tossed it in the wood stove. She extinguished her thumb just before Dean came clambering down the stairs.
"Cleaned this place out" he announced, "you got that fire going?
"Just" she replied, " not quite ready".
"Wonder how Sammy's doing" he replied.
Sam joined them in the basement with a pillowcase full, " I grabbed anything that looked like silver".
"Better safe than sorry" Dean replied.
"I think it's ready" Robin added reaching for the objects. They shoved all the silver in the fire. Suddenly they heard footsteps above them, "Were we expecting company" Robin asked?
The three went up to investigate, guns at the ready. Fortunately, it was just Lori. She was crying in the pews, praying. Robin motioned to Dean that they give them space. Dean nodded and followed her back to the basement. They watched in silence as the silver burned.
Suddenly they heard running and screaming upstairs. The two grabbed their guns and shot up the stairs, Hook man wasn't gone. "Sam drop" Dean shouted, and fired a buck shot of rock salt at the hook man. Rock salt won't kill a spirit, but it sure as hell will slow em down.
"What did we miss" Robin demanded?
"I don't know" Dean shouted. They all looked frantically around where they were.
Sam locked eyes with a cross around Lori's neck, "Where did you get that" he asked? "My dad" she replied, "It's a church heirloom". Robin was already running back to the basement.
"Is it silver" Sam demanded?
"Yes".
Sam ripped it from her neck and tossed it to Dean. Dean ran down the hall. Robin was at the bottom of the stairs. "Dean, toss it". Dean did as he was told. Robin threw it into the fire. Dean joined her and the two watched the pendant melt.
The two pairs rejoined upstairs. The Hook man was gone.
The case was closed. Robin packed all her stuff back up on her bike as she prepared to take off. She met up with the Winchesters before she hit the road. "Listen" she started, "I'm really sorry".
"It's forgiven" Dean reassured her, " we couldn't have done this without you". "I'll make sure I tell dad that part when he tears a strip off me" she nodded, "He wasn't terribly impressed when I took off".
"Dads" Sam laughed.
"Yeah" Robin nodded, "I hope you find yours. If dad and I can help-".
"Well," Dean laughed, "I don't know how much your old man would want to help our dad out".
"Maybe" she agreed, "but help you two? In a heartbeat". She smiled at the boys, "take care Winchesters". With this she took off on her bike, headed home. Tear a strip off her was probably an understatement. Her dad was going to lose his mind. She had a couple of hours to ponder this as she drove home.
When finally, she pulled into the salvage yard, her father was quickly out on the front step, "Well you're breathing" he snapped.
"But for how long" she replied?
"You're an idjit" he snapped again, "you don't hunt alone, that's just stupid".
"I would tend to agree" she replied as she walked past him into the house, "You're never going to believe who I just finished working with.
