Taking Chances
Don't know much about your life.
Don't know much about your world
But don't want to be alone tonight
You don't know about my past
And I don't have a future figured out.
And maybe this is going too fast.
And maybe it's not meant to last
What do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there's solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say?
"Hey! I'm happy you came out tonight. You sounded pretty tired over the phone." Dean said once he and Jennie sat down at a restaurant for dinner.
"Yeah, it's been a long day." She said as she brushed her hair back
"How was work?" He asked
"Well, we were filming a touchy episode... about date rape." She yawned, exhausted
"Oh, not for the faint-hearted." Dean cringed
"Not at all." She agreed with an ironic, dry chuckle. "Everyone was pretty on edge... I was brought to tears by it."
"I'm sorry," He soothed, squeezing her hand across the table
"It's okay." She smiled at him. "By the end of the day, they all had me laughing as usual."
"Sounds like you've got a good team over there."
"Yeah... " She smiled to herself. "We're all pretty close... they're like family. You should meet them some time."
"Well... speaking of closeness. I uh was thinking..." He paused
"Yeah?" She asked with a grin
"We've been seeing each other for half a year. And I get that it's a short amount of time but... everything's been so... easy."
"Yeah... "She smiled with radiance. "It has been easy." And she appreciated it.
"And well, I've worried about finding someone who's into me and not just the guy who's in a band, and I know you've felt the same. Never knowing if people are into you or whatever your character's called." He chuckled - he knew nothing about her show, which she liked.
"That's true!" she laughed
"And I know your mum's gone now so... why don't we move in together." He finally propositioned
"Move. In. Together...?" She repeated slowly, wide-eyed
"Yeah... What do you say? Take a chance?"
"Ugh," Luke groaned as he slumped himself onto the couch in Jason's dressing room
"Bad night?" Jason guessed
"Late night." Luke mumbled
"Tell me more." Jason said with very little enthusiasm
"I was out with this girl." Luke said dismissively
"Who?" Jason studied him, unconvinced
"The girl I brought to the Emmy's." Luke elaborated
"Oh yeah, she was cool!" Jason nodded, still seemingly disinterested
"Yeah she is." Luke agreed
"Can't believe you decided not to talk to blondie." Jason supposed
"Not this again." Luke groaned
"Come on, Luke. I see you together. We all do. You light up around her, you're flirting with each other for months!"
"What do you want from me?" Luke said with an exhausted sigh, "Right after Chuck told me to tell her how I feel, she moved in with the guy."
"And Chuck said do it anyway."
"I don't know." He sounded hesitant. "The whole boyfriend thing's got me all messed up." He rubbed his eyes
"Remember what the boss said. What you've got with her is far deeper than whatever she has with this guy." Jason encouraged
"Not anymore..." Luke sighed
"Whoever she's shacked up with, he's not you." Jason determined, "Take a chance!"
"I'll see." Luke breathed out. "Maybe I'll get her alone some time."
"Oh look!" Jason pointed to the open door.
"What?" Luke looked outside
"That band is here." Jason got up and headed over to them. Luke shortly followed
"Hey." One of them said as Jason made his way over
"Hey fellas. I'm Jason."
"Hi. I'm Bryan." He shook his hand
"Another Brian we've got here..." Jason grinned.
"Hey. Luke." He said pointing to himself, as the rest of the boys introduced themselves.
"Ah you're the guy. In all the magazines and stuff..." Kevin examined
"I could say the same about you guys." Luke smirked
"Yeah." Mark chuckled. "...You've got some honeys here." Mark whistled as he looked around at the cast and extras on set.
"Yeah, how'd you get any work done?" Sam joked
"Wait 'til they open their mouths. Then you'll get it." Luke satirized and the boys all laughed
"What he means is, they're all taken." Jason interjected with a grin
"Yeah we were warned by one of your crew." Bryan chuckled "His name's Bobby I think? -Apparently the blonde's boyfriend is coming in so we were told to steer clear."
"Oh great." Luke mumbled under his breath
"Yeah that was weird." Sam shrugged
"It's Valentine's day." Kevin explained
"Yeah but what do they think of us?" Bryan sneered
"Luke. 12 o'clock." Jason directed and Luke looked over as Dean arrived. Jennie was introducing him to Tori.
"This will be hilarious." Ian teased as he glanced at Jason, and the two of them went over there. Luke leaned back on the wall and watched on.
"This is Brian and Gaby." Jennie continued. "And you remember Shannen?"
"Yeah!" Dean smiled as he shook Shannen's hand. "You got some pipes on you, girl. We should jam some time."
"I'd love to!" Shannen grinned
Jennie looked over and spotted Luke, casually leaning against the wall with a toothpick in his mouth - not taking his eyes off of her.
She breathed out slowly before turning back to Dean
"I'll show you my trailer." She suggested
Jennie was getting lunch for her and Dean when Luke slid over there.
"So that's the boy toy. A little on the heavier side, huh?" He snickered
Jennie glowered at him, as though daggers shot out of her eyes.
"That was rude!" She snapped
"I'm just teasing, Jen." He murmured with a sheepish grin
She shook her head in disappointment.
"You're one of my closest friends." She said almost to herself
"Yeah...?" He seemed confused as to what that had to do with anything.
She stopped adding food to her tray, placed it down, and turned to face him, "Why didn't you come say hi?" She folded her arms
Luke sighed as he looked into her eyes. He then clicked his tongue and with a breath, he drawled "I'm sorry. I will."
"This is a great studio, great work environment... Do you even work or do you just hang around all day?" Dean playfully teased Jennie
"Ha!" Jennie chuckled with a hint of sarcasm, "Come talk to me when you've been here for 12 hours."
"Yeah." He laughed. "But you're in good hands. Your coworkers are awesome."
"Yeah, I'm really lucky to have them."
"I was wondering why it took you months to bring me here. You hiding this place from me?" He joked
"I was just saving it for Valentine's day." She grinned
"Hi." Luke now stood before them. Jennie got up from her chair and pulled Dean up.
"This is Luke. Another coworker -friend." She said awkwardly
"Ah you're the James Dean kid." Dean recollected from all the hearsay surrounding the show
Oh shit... Jennie thought to herself.
"There will never be another James Dean." Luke quietly said with conviction
"Still. That's quite an honour to be labeled the next Jimmy Dean." Dean grinned. His attitude was calm, similar to Luke's. But he didn't have Luke's angst. In fact, Dean was as cool as a cucumber.
"I don't really get caught up in that, Dom." Luke exhaled as he put his hands in his pockets. Jennie nervously glanced from Luke to Dean
"It's Dean." Dean corrected
"My apologies." Luke pursed his lips before catching a glimpse of Jennie in the corner of his eye. She was glaring a hole in the side of his head
"Well, it's nice to meet you." Luke finally held out his hand
"Yeah, likewise." Dean nodded. "It's great to see where Jen works and meet everybody. She's got quite an entourage." He sighed as he wrapped his arm around Jennie and pulled her close. She smiled anxiously as she could now feel Luke glaring at her as she held onto her boyfriend.
"Yeah, we're all really... tight here." Luke said to Dean as he looked Jennie up and down, making her even more uncomfortable.
"Well there you go." Luke scoffed. "It's Valentine's day. They're all loved up and shit."
"Look," Jason huffed. "If you want to know if things could ever start up again and go somewhere, you gotta have the talk." Jason persisted
"...I don't know. Finally seeing him with her... Just got under my skin." Luke huffed
I just want to start again,
And maybe you could show me how to try,
And maybe you could take me in,
Somewhere underneath your skin
And I had my heart beating down,
But I always come back for more.
There's nothing like love to pull you up,
When you're laying down on the floor there.
So talk to me, talk to me,
Like lovers do.
Yeah walk with me, walk with me,
Like lovers do
What do you say?
