Year One- Chapter One

"Ow, watch it will you?" Draco snapped at Madam Malkin. He was being fitted for his robes to start his first year at Hogwarts. His mother was just across the street, grabbing some of the materials he needed while he got fitted. The bell for the shop jingled, announcing that another customer walked in. Draco looked over and saw a boy about his age with messy black hair and glasses accompanied by a tall man with several scars on his face.

"First year?" Madam Malkin questioned as she worked on Draco, the tall man responding with a nod. "Just come stand over here dear, I'll be right with you." The boy glanced up at the man, who gave him a reassuring smile, before listening to Madam Malkin and standing just a few feet away from Draco.

He glanced at the boy and immediately launched into an introduction. "What house are you hoping to get into? I'm aiming for Slytherin, it's a family tradition. Where are my manners? Malfoy, Draco Malfoy. I would shake your hand but I'll probably get stuck with a pin if I move."

"Potter, Harry Potter," the boy responded, clearly mimicking Draco's introduction. The boy continued speaking but Draco wasn't paying attention. He was talking to Harry Potter, the Harry Potter. Bloody hell, his mother would be furious if she came in and saw them talking.

Of course, as if on cue, that was when his mother returned. Luckily, her attention was on Madam Malkin at first. "Are you almost done? We need to return home soon."

"Yes, yes, just give me two more minutes," Madam Malkin replied.

His mother seemed satisfied with the response and turned her attention to Draco. "Who's this?" She asked, referring to Harry.

Harry opened his mouth to respond but Draco shot him a warning look and jumped in. "Nobody mother, just some inconsequential mudblood." He stepped down from the stool as Madam Malkin finished the measurements. As they left the shop, Draco glanced back at Harry, wishing he could apologize.
