Calvin and Hobbes swam for a little while, until they noticed something incredible. It was a coral reef.
"Wow!" exclaimed Calvin. "It's a coral reef!"
"Isn't it pretty?" Hobbes remarked. "A lot of fish live there. Too bad mertigers don't."
"They might," said Calvin. "I mean, they love colourful things. Don't they?"
"Oh, they do," replied Hobbes. "They just don't touch coral reefs. Touching one could easily destroy something. Let's keep looking."
The pair kept swimming as fast and far as they can. There were a lot of fish, yet there were some rubbish in the ocean, as well.
"You never know what you're going to find down there," Calvin told Hobbes. "Some bits might be good and some bits might be bad. There could even be things deeper into the ocean."
"Let's take a look," Hobbes suggested.
So they swam deeper and deeper into the ocean. Pretty soon they got to the bottom – and boy, did they see something interesting. There were a lot of statues underwater. Most of them looked like humans, which Calvin found interesting.
"These sculptors must have really known what they were doing," Calvin remarked.
"Look!" cried Hobbes.
He led Calvin to something amazing. It was a plane at the bottom of the ocean. The pair were astonished by the structure.
"How could a plane get underwater?" asked Calvin.
"Maybe they thought it was a submarine-plane," Hobbes said.
They continued to explore the depths of the sea, looking for more junk to find. (But they didn't forget to search for the mertiger!)
As Calvin and Hobbes continued to look for the mertiger, Calvin saw something great.
"Hobbes!" he cried. "Want to see a sunken pirate ship?"
Hobbes swam after Calvin and soon, like Calvin said, there was a sunken pirate ship in the ocean!
"Oh boy!" exclaimed Calvin. "This is amazing. Looks like pirates were real after all. This sure beats watching TV."
Hobbes looked at the ship. "Wonder what sunk it?" he asked.
"A lot of people know that fact," said a voice. "And I'd love to tell it to you."
Calvin and Hobbes were stunned. That voice didn't come from any of them.
"The voice," said Hobbes. "It sounded female."
"Oh, it did," replied the voice. "In fact, a lot of me sound female."
Calvin looked around. There was nobody there. "Show yourself!" he demanded.
"Please ask nicely," the voice told him.
Calvin sighed. "Please come out so we can see you."
Just then, they heard the noise of something swimming. They turned around and saw a tiger that looked just like Hobbes, only she had pink fur and a green mermaid tail.
Calvin and Hobbes were so astonished.
"It's a mertiger!" they said together.
