AN: As I said before, this will be the beginning of this story. Get ready for what is to come. Let's begin.
Littlefoot found himself in a place completely unfamiliar to him. Instead of the trees and the natural landscape of his home, he was surrounded by strange structures that seemed to be made of stone that were taller than the trees, but what caught his attention the most was that there wasn't a single dinosaur around, but some strange bipedal creatures that he had never seen before. All walking from place to place passing by him as if he were just a rock in the road.
Before he could say a word, a flash of white covered everything and soon after, Littlefoot opened his eyes. Lifting his head and looking around, he discovered that he was in the Great Valley in the dead of night, sleeping near his grandparents.
"Wow. It was just a sleepstory." said Littlefoot before closing his eyes and going back to sleep.
Though he couldn't help but wonder what that sleeping tale meant.
Korra opened her eyes to find herself in a jungle of sorts. She couldn't help but be awed by the natural beauty of the place, but then, she felt the ground shake in a flickering manner. Turning to the side, she gasped as a huge creature with a very long neck passed by her. Not only that, but all around her, more creatures, all of different shapes and sizes, walked back and forth, ignoring her like a stone in the road.
She didn't know what kind of creatures they were and before she could ask, a flash of white covered everything and soon after, Korra opened her eyes. Sitting up, she discovered that she was in her bed, in her room and it was still nighttime.
"What a weird dream." said Korra before closing her eyes and going back to sleep.
But she still couldn't get those strange creatures that appeared in her dream out of her head.
It was just another day in the Great Valley and the gang was playing tag with Ducky being the catch.
"I'm coming for you!" exclaimed Ducky chasing after Cera.
"You won't catch me!" exclaimed Cera running away from Ducky.
Cera ran until she reached a rock which she climbed on to be out of the swimmer's reach.
"Hey! That's no fair!" said Ducky.
"Technically we never said it didn't count to climb on a rock, so it might count." said Ruby.
"Then I'll get you." said Ducky running towards the fast runner, with her running away as she laughed.
Because of her long legs, Ruby was able to get a long way away from Ducky, who was starting to get tired of chasing her.
When she stopped to catch her breath, she noticed Spike standing still while eating a bush. Seeing it as an advantage, Ducky snuck up behind Spike to catch him.
"Look out, Spike!" shouted Chomper alerting his friend.
Ducky lunged toward her little brother to catch him, but Spike spun to the side, sending Ducky slamming face-first into the ground. When she got up and shook her head, she looked over to see Littlefoot staring at nothing. Determined to catch someone, Ducky dashed toward him.
"Littlefoot, Ducky will catch you!" said Petrie trying to warn the longneck.
But Littlefoot was so distracted that he didn't hear the warning and didn't react when Ducky caught him.
"Gotcha. You pick it up now. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
But Littlefoot was still distracted, which got everyone's attention.
"Littlefoot, what's wrong with you?" asked Cera approaching with the others.
"Huh?" asked Littlefoot coming out of his trance and turning to look at his friends.
"Are you all right? You've been distracted for a while." said Chomper.
"I'm sorry. It's just... I've been thinking about a sleepstory I had last night." said Littlefoot.
"What wrong with that? Me have sleepstories every night." said Petrie.
"I know, but that one was really strange. I was in a place I'd never been before and there were some creatures I'd never seen before." said Littlefoot.
"And that's why you're so pensive? It was just a sleepstory. They're strange like that." said Cera.
"That's true. Sometimes I have such strange sleepstories that soon after I wake up I forget them." said Chomper.
"No one knows what the sleepstories are about, that's why they are called sleepstories." said Ruby.
Littlefoot still had his doubts about what he saw last night, but his friends were right, it was just a sleepstory.
"Yes. You are right, but in that sleepstory I felt like we were going on an adventure." said Littlefoot before he started walking with his friends.
Littlefoot
I'm going to go adventuring.
Ducky, Petrie, Chomper and Ruby
Adventuring?
Cera
Adventuring?
Littlefoot
I'm going to go adventuring
and who knows what I'll find.
Petrie
He's going to see the great beyond.
Ducky
Across the mud.
Littlefoot
Beyond the pond
Ducky and Petrie
He's going to see the great beyond.
Cera
I'd rather stay behind.
Ducky
Will there be ugly, bugly things
with ickly, tickly, prickly wings?
Petrie
A front that bites
and back that stings?
Littlefoot
You never know.
Petrie
Will there be things with sharply teeth?
Ducky
Up above and underneath?
Chomper
I'll bet it's so.
Ruby
Then please don't go.
Littlefoot
I'm going to climb the mountain tall
where fires burn and rocks can fall.
Cera
And scary things can creep and crawl
with one big googly eye
"Aah! Stop!" said Chomper at the image.
Petrie
He's going to reach the highest high
where even flyers never fly.
Ruby
Maybe he will touch the sky.
Cera
Well, I won't say goodbye.
Ducky
Will he cross the big, big water?
Chomper
Where it hot, or even hotter?
Cera
Bet he's gonna meet a lotta sharpteeth there
Petrie
Yeah
Ducky
Will there be yummy things to eat?
Petrie
Will there be things that ouch your feet?
Ducky
Will you be brave?
Cera
Will you be scared?
Littlefoot
No!
I'm going to go adventuring
Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Chomper and Ruby
Adventuring, adventuring
Littlefoot
And when I go adventuring,
There'll be so much to do
Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Chomper and Ruby
But if you go adventuring, adventuring,
there's just one thing
You know what you are going to have to do?
You're going to have to take us all
with you!
"Oh, yes, yes, yes! Please!" said Ducky
Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Chomper and Ruby
We want to go adventuring, too!
"What do we do now?" asked Cera.
"Hey, how about we go to the caves?" suggested Littlefoot.
"Yep, yep, yep. There's plenty of room to play in the caves." said Ducky along with a nod from Spike.
"Besides, there will be no one to bother there." said Chomper.
"As long as we don't end up in the Mysterious Beyond like the last few times." said Ruby.
"Right. Then let's go." said Littlefoot as he and the others headed for their new play area.
We meet in the Southern Water Tribe, where Korra lived. Sometime after it was discovered that she was the Avatar, she was taken to a White Lotus complex, a group dedicated to the Avatar, to train in the bending of the four elements. Years later, when she was seventeen, she had fully mastered waterbending, earthbending and firebending.
However, she hadn't yet begun to train the airbender. The reason of this was that, at the start of the Hundred Year War, the current Fire Lord, Sozin, knew that the Avatar (Aang), the only person who could stop his plans, would be born among the airbenders, so he sent troops to eliminate them all, leaving Aang, who managed to escape the massacre, as the last airbender.
Fortunately, he had children and one of them became an airbender. He was supposed to train Korra in airbending, but he was always busy, as he served as a member of the Republic City council.
Now, we see Korra, in battle armor, launch a couple of fireballs from her kicks towards a firebender who tried to protect himself by putting his arms in front of him, but ended up knocked down. Two other firebenders, who were behind Korra, jointly launched a flare at her, engulfing her in fire, but with a circular swing of her arms, Korra dispelled the flames before positioning herself to fight.
One of the firebenders launched a fireball from his fist at her, but she dodged to the side before undoing an incoming fireball with her fist and then dodging another. Korra charged at the firebender as he did the same and the other firebender moved to the side.
The firebender heading for Korra leapt into the air to launch a wave of fire and a fireball from his foot, but Korra dove down and with her hands flat on the ground, slammed her foot into the firebender's, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground.
Korra got up in time to see the other firebender throw a fireball at her, but she knocked it away with her hands as she turned her head slightly to kick the previous firebender who tried to attack her from behind.
She then undid another fireball before launching a pair of fireballs from her fists that knocked down the firebender in front of her. The one behind threw another pair of fireballs at her, but Korra deflected the first with a mid-jump kick and the second with her arm before throwing a fireball and then quickly turned to deflect a fireball with a side kick before putting her arms up protectively to defend against another fire attack.
With a deep breath, she thrust her arms forward to launch a powerful blast of fire that knocked the firebender to the roof of the area where the White Lotus members were watching the fight.
"She's strong." said Katara, one of the former Team Avatar members and Aang's wife.
"But she lacks restraint." said the leader of the White Lotus.
The last firebender steadily formed a giant fireball with his arm outstretched like a flamethrower as he ran towards Korra who in turn ran towards the firebender with a smile of excitement.
With her arms outstretched, Korra stepped into the fireball and blew it apart like smoke before approaching the firebender, much to his surprise. She then leapt into the air, using the firebender as a springboard, somersaulted into the air and threw a fireball at him with a kick and then, bringing both fists together, with a small space between them, she launched a powerful blast of fire, knocking down the last firebender.
"Woohoo!" exclaimed Korra excitedly at her victory before approaching where the White Lotus members were standing. "Hey, why all the doom and gloom, people? We should be celebrating! Three elements down, one to go!"
"You're getting ahead of yourself as usual, Korra. We haven't decided if you passed your firebending test yet." said the White Lotus member who was a firebender.
"Ever since you were a little girl, you've excelled at the physical side of bending, but completely ignored the spiritual side. The Avatar must master both." said the White Lotus leader.
"I haven't ignored it, it just doesn't come as easy to me. But that's why I should start training with Tenzin immediately. He's Mister Spiritual." said Korra.
"Do you believe she's ready, Master Katara?" asked the White Lotus leader.
"Yes. If anyone can teach her what she needs to learn, it's Tenzin." said Katara.
"Very well, Korra. It's time for you to begin your airbending training." said the White Lotus leader, much to the Avatar's delight.
"Yes!" exclaimed Korra before jumping up as she did a flip in the air. "Finally!" said Korra before noticing the people present. " I mean, *Crackles* thank you all for believing in me." said Korra politely before walking away with a smile.
When she was far enough away, she ran off with a big smile on her face in the direction of the stables where a good friend of hers was.
"Naga, you should have seen it! I kicked some firebender butt, and I passed!" said Korra hugging the polar bear dog's head and petting it. "Tenzin will be here in a few days." said Korra as she got licks on her animal friend's face, much to her amusement.
Later, Korra was on Naga's back heading for the gates of the White Lotus complex.
"Just taking Naga out for a stroll." Korra said to the sentry at the gates who was looking at her with doubt as to whether or not to do so, which caused Korra to look at him with annoyance. "Don't worry, we're not going far."
Shrugging, the sentry opened the gates, allowing Korra a view of the frozen tundra of the South Pole. From the distance, a pair of White Lotus guards watched Naga begin to run across the field with Korra on top of her.
"Naga, go! That a girl. Go! Go! Go!" said Korra causing Naga to pick up speed as she looked ahead with joy and determination.
Korra was curious about the strange creatures she had in her dream, but the excitement of being able to be trained in airbending and become a full Avatar made her forget about it completely.
The days passed and finally the moment came. In the middle of the sunset, a flying bison was seen descending from the sky, flying towards the complex. Korra and Katara were on the ground waiting for the bison to land and despite the height at which the flying animal was, someone could be heard talking on its back.
"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? It looks like we're there. I know it, this is very familiar! Are we here yet? Are we here yet? Ooh, please tell me we're here!" said a childish voice as the bison landed on the ground.
"Yes, Ikki, as I've been telling you for the last fifteen minutes, we are, finally, here." said Tenzin in an exhausted voice as a child bit his head like a coconut.
At the news, two girls on the back of the flying bison created an air scooter to glide along the bison's tail as Katara approached her family. When the girls reached the end of the tail, they undid the scooter.
"Hello, Mother. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you." said Tenzin very exhausted as the boy tugged on his ears and the girls stood beside him. "Please, help me." pleaded Tenzin as he bent down, allowing his mother to grab his son.
Katara laughed at her son's predicament.
"Unhand me, strange woman!" said Meelo jerking to escape his grandmother's grip.
"That's your grandmother, Meelo." said Tenzin.
Meelo broke free from Katara's grip, stepped over her leaning on her head and landed behind her before running back to his father.
"It's so good to see all of you." said Katara happy to see her grandchildren.
"Gran Gran, I've been reading all about your old adventures. I've been dying to ask you: What happened to Zuko's mom?" said Jinora.
"Well, Jinora, it's an incredible tale…" began Katara before suddenly the other girl stood in front of her.
"Gran Gran, you look old. How old are you? And why is it so cold in the South Pole? Can we make a campfire, and all huddle around it, and tell scary stories, and make snowmen? And then can you make the snowmen move with waterbending and chase us? Wouldn't that be fuuun? Huh? Wouldn't it?" asked Ikki as she jumped up and down, much to her older sister's annoyance as Tenzin approached the bison to help his pregnant wife.
"Pema, let me help you. Careful now, careful." said Tenzin holding his wife's hand, but she pushed her away soon after.
"Stop doting on me. I'm not helpless, I'm just pregnant." Pema said looking at her swollen belly.
Katara moved closer to her daughter-in-law and the two shared a hug.
"The baby's strong." began Katara with a hand on Pema's belly. "I see another airbender in your future." said Katara causing an expression of annoyance and weariness to form on the woman's face.
"All I want is one child like me, a nice non-bender, who doesn't blast wind in my face every five seconds." said Pema before turning an annoyed look to the side.
"Mommy, look." said Meelo who was inside a pile of snow and whose two sisters were on either side playing with the snow. Soon after, Meelo popped the pile of snow with airbending as he spun in the air before landing. "I'm a snowbender!" exclaimed Meelo with a smile while Pema still had the same tired and annoyed look with bits of snow on her which she then shook her head off.
"Were Tenzin and his siblings this crazy when they were kids?" asked Pema to Katara.
"Kya and Bumi certainly were, but Tenzin has always been… rather serious." said Katara.
"Mother, please." said Tenzin not wanting to hear stories of his childhood at the moment before turning his gaze to a certain someone. "Korra?" asked Tenzin cheerfully, causing Korra to approach him with a smile as the airbender put his hands on her shoulders. "Look at you, so big and strong. You've grown into quite the young Avatar."
"Master Tenzin, I'm so glad you're here. I can't wait to get started." said Korra eagerly.
"Yes, well…" began Tenzin not knowing what to say, but from the look on his face, it wasn't good.
"You're going to have to tell her sooner or later." said Pema knowing what she had to say.
"But tell me what?" asked Korra with slight concern.
Katara seemed the only one who knew what was going on.
"You're not staying, are you?" asked Katara with slight sadness.
Tenzin let out a sad sigh.
"I'm afraid not. We're only visiting for the night. Then I have to return to Republic City." said Tenzin.
"But… no, you're supposed to move here. You're supposed to teach me." said Korra trying to convince the airbender, but to no avail.
"I'm sorry, Korra. Your airbending training is going to have to wait." said Tenzin with his hands on the Avatar's shoulders to make her understand the situation.
Later that evening, Korra, Tenzin, and several members of the White Lotus were at a table having dinner.
"So, how long until you're ready to teach me airbending? A week? A month?" asked Korra.
"It could be much longer." said Tenzin.
"I don't understand. Why are you making me wait?" asked Korra.
"I have a responsibility to Republic City. I am one of its leaders, and the situation there is very unstable right now." said Tenzin.
"But you also have a responsibility to teach me. Believe me, I'd be happy to find another airbending master, but you're the only one. We're stuck with each other." said Korra.
"I wish there were another way." said Tenzin.
"Wait, there is! If you can't stay here, then I'll go back to Republic City with you! It's perfect!" said Korra.
"Absolutely not! The city is far too dangerous. Avatar Aang tasked us with keeping you safe while you mastered the four elements." said the leader of the White Lotus.
"I get that, but I don't think keeping me locked up in this compound like a prisoner is what he had in mind." said Korra.
"I know this is difficult to accept, but it's not the right time for you to come to the city." said Tenzin.
"Whatever." said Korra getting up and walking away, leaving the two elders let out a deep sigh at the Avatar's predicament.
The next morning, Katara was saying goodbye to her family who were on the back of the flying bison preparing for takeoff.
"Goodbye, Gran Gran!" said Ikki.
"Oogi, yip-yip!" said Tenzin.
At the command, the flying bison flew high and away, leaving Katara wiping her eyes in sadness.
Meanwhile, Korra was on Naga's back with her resting on the edge of a ledge in the middle of the tundra.
Suddenly, the two turned their heads to the side to see Oogi and his passengers ride past them. They followed them with their eyes until they were lost on the horizon.
Korra was depressed, for years she had perfected the waterbending, earthbending and firebending and when she thought she could finally learn the airbending, her master told her that she couldn't pass until much later.
The worst thing was that when she suggested going to where he lived, she was denied the idea with the excuse that it was dangerous. It was as if they didn't want her to grow up as Avatar, that they just took her for a very expensive and fragile vase, and she wasn't that.
Korra
I have often dreamed of a far-off place,
Where a great, warm welcome will be waiting for me.
Where the crowds will cheer when they see my face,
and a voice keeps sayin' this is where I'm meant to be.
I will find my way I can go the distance.
I'll be there someday.
If I can be strong,
I know every mile,
Will be worth my while,
I would go most anywhere to feel like I belong.
Later, in the middle of the night, Korra found herself entering the stables and taking Naga's saddle. But as she was putting the saddle on…
"Nice night for an escape, isn't it?" at the new voice, Korra turned her head with an expression of fear and worry as she saw Katara standing in the doorway.
"I have to leave. I have to find my own path as the Avatar." said Korra approaching Katara.
"I know you do." said Katara with a sweet smile, causing Korra to smile too as she saw that her waterbending master agreed with her. "Aang's time has passed. My brother and many of my friends are gone. It's time for you and your generation to take over the responsibility of keeping peace and balance in the world. And I think you're going to be a great Avatar." said Katara.
"Thank you." said Korra hugging the waterbender.
"Goodbye, Korra." said Katara.
Quite a distance away from the White Lotus complex, a hole formed in the middle of the snow and out through it came Korra and Naga. After Naga shook the snow off, Korra climbed onto her back, and they proceeded to ride away.
A short time later, Korra was hugging her parents in front of their house.
"Mom, Dad. I'll miss you." said Korra undoing the hug.
"We love you so much." said Senna.
Korra left quickly to keep the situation from becoming sadder than it was. She climbed onto Naga's back and rode off across the snowy field.
Korra
I am on my way,
I can go the distance.
I don't care how far,
Somehow I'll be strong,
I know every mile,
Will be worth my while,
I would go most everywhere to find where I belong.
Back in the Great Valley, for some reason, while in the other world it had been days, there it was only a couple of hours, as we found the gang having fun in the caves as they said at the beginning.
At that moment, they were hitting a round stone and passing it from one to the other.
"Here goes!" shouted Cera hitting the rock with her head, rolling it towards Chomper.
"I'm coming!" shouted Chomper kicking the rock, making it roll somewhere else, though he winced because of how hard the rock was. "Ow!"
"Mine! Mine!" said Petrie standing in the path of the rolling rock with a grin that was wiped away when he saw the size of the rock. "Better not." said Petrie before flying away.
Ducky then jumped on the rock and started running over it, rolling it in another direction.
"Littlefoot, it's yours!" shouted Ducky before jumping off the rock that went rolling to where the longneck was standing.
"Take this one!" shouted Littlefoot kicking the rock, rolling it towards Ruby who kicked it as well.
"There you go, Spike!" expressed Ruby at the sensation of kicking a very hard rock.
Spike got into position and when the rock was close enough, he hit it with his tail, but that caused the rock to shoot out like a cannonball towards Littlefoot who let out a little yelp before ducking his head, allowing the rock to hit the wall behind him, embedding itself in it.
"Littlefoot, are you all right?" asked Chomper.
"Yes, I am." said Littlefoot.
"Be more careful next time, Spike." said Cera scolding the spiketail who let out an apologetic groan.
"Don't be so hard on him, the poor thing doesn't know how to control his strength. No, no, no." said Ducky comforting her little brother.
"Good thing no one got hurt and that's a good thing." said Ruby.
Suddenly, the gang heard a strange cracking sound and as they looked at the source of the noise, they saw that around the stone embedded in the wall cracks began to appear and run almost all the way up the wall and before they could say anything, the wall collapsed like a tower of cards, covering everything in dust, causing the gang to cough a little.
When they all looked to the front they were a bit shocked to find some sort of hidden camera.
"I didn't know there was anything behind that wall." said Littlefoot.
"Me neither and that's because Ruby and I live here." said Chomper.
"If that place has been hidden, then probably no one has explored that hidden place." said Ruby.
"Then let's go explore it." said Littlefoot as he and the gang entered the hidden chamber.
Once they were inside, they could see that the place was very small, but in the center of the place was something that caught everyone's attention, a spherical stone with strange symbols glowing latently.
"Oh. What that?" asked Petrie.
"I've never seen a stone like that before." said Littlefoot.
"It's very bright. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky along with a nod from Spike.
"Okay, it's a mysterious, shiny stone. What do we do with it now?" asked Cera.
While the others pondered what to do with the mysterious stone, Littlefoot sensed a strange feeling coming from the stone and reached out his paw to touch it.
Before anyone could stop him, Littlefoot touched the stone and in a second, a ball of light expanded from the stone, quickly covering the entire chamber. Soon after, the ball of light contracted and disappeared, revealing that there was no one in the chamber except for the stone, which continued to glow latently until it was completely extinguished.
When the flash disappeared, the gang suddenly found themselves at a dead end.
"W-what happened?" asked Littlefoot.
"Weren't we in the caves before?" asked Ruby looking around.
Ducky moved forward a little until she was at the entrance to the alley and what she saw made her gasp in shock and horror.
"Guys, guys, come check this out!" shouted Ducky getting the attention of the others.
When they all reached the entrance to the alley, they gasped at what they were seeing. They were no longer in the caves or even the Great Valley. They were in a place full of stone structures as tall as trees or more, they also saw strange things flying through the sky and they were near the Big Water and in the middle of them was the giant statue of a strange bipedal creature carrying a staff, but what caught their attention the most was that they saw from a distance several of those creatures.
"Oh my mother." said Chomper.
"Where in the world are we?" asked Cera.
"This not Great Valley." said Petrie.
"You know? That statue over there reminds me of Saurus Rock." said Littlefoot referring to the statue of Avatar Aang.
"That's true, you can see the resemblance." said Ducky along with a nod from Spike.
"Very nice, yes, but that doesn't answer the question of where we are." said Cera returning to the main topic.
"I remember before we got here, we were in that mystery cave where the stone was and after that, we got here." said Ruby.
"Do you see what happens from touching a mystery stone? This!" said Cera to Littlefoot remembering that he touched the stone before what happened.
"Hey, how was I supposed to know this would happen?" asked Littlefoot with a frown.
"Guys, calm down. It's nobody's fault." said Chomper.
"He's right. We have to stick together to find our way home and we can only do that by sticking together." said Ruby.
"But we still don't know where we are or even what these creatures are that seem to live here." said Cera.
"I don't think we'll accomplish anything by staying here. We'll have to go find a way." said Littlefoot.
"But what if those creatures see us? We don't know what they are. No, no, no." said Ducky.
"What if they sharpteeth?" asked Petrie trembling slightly.
"They don't seem to be, and so says a real sharptooth." said Chomper.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." said Littlefoot before he and the gang cautiously made their way out of the alley, making sure no humans saw them.
Meanwhile, on a ship that had just arrived in Republic City, there was Korra sleeping next to Naga. The reason for this was that the two had snuck onto a ship bound for Republic City to avoid attracting attention.
Korra began to open her eyes and when she heard the noise outside she knew they had reached their destination.
"Naga, we're here!" said Korra waking up the polar bear dog.
Soon after, the door to the ship's warehouse opened, allowing the sun's rays in and Korra quickly ducked out of sight as she saw several men enter.
As those men were carrying the packages, Korra, who was on Naga's back, took advantage of that to run out of the place.
"Thanks for the ride!" said Korra to a worker as she exited the ship, startling the handlers. Soon after, Korra stopped so she could gaze at the huge city before her eyes.
"Wow, look at this place. I've never seen so many Satomobiles!" said Korra before focusing her gaze in awe on the statue of the former Avatar. She then turned her gaze to a nearby island. "Air Temple Island. That's where Tenzin lives. You ready for a little swim, girl?" asked Korra to her mount.
But then, Naga began to sniff something in the distance.
"Okay, okay! Food first, then air temple!" said Korra before Naga started running in another direction, but unfortunately they were riding in the middle of a road.
"Watch out, Naga! Look out!" shouted Korra as they passed by a satomobile that slid down the road until it collided with another one. "Whoops, sorry about that. Excuse us. Coming through. Heads up. Eh, sorry, we're new in town." said Korra as they walked past complaining bystanders.
Naga crouched down to follow the trail until she came to a stall selling food. As soon as she saw what they were serving, Naga began to gasp with her tongue lolling out, wanting to taste the food.
"Naga, wait." said Korra making Naga groan in sadness as the Avatar got off and stood in front of the attendant. "We'll take one of everything, please." said Korra picking up a stick wrapped in meat.
"That will be twenty yuans." said the stall attendant.
"Uh… I don't have any money?" asked Korra, causing the manager to get angry and snatch the meat-wrapped stick from her.
"Then what good are you to me?" the manager asked angrily.
Disappointed, Korra walked away and stood next to Naga to comfort her.
"Don't worry, girl. The city's huge. I bet we could find a place to rustle up something to eat." said Korra as she and Naga walked away from the stall.
Meanwhile, the gang continued their little exploration of Republic City, trying to find some clue as to where they were or how to get back home, but it was proving a bit tricky due to the fact that they were pretending to stay hidden from humans, but they were everywhere.
"It may be a weird place, but I have to admit it's impressive." said Littlefoot.
"Yeah. I wonder what those things are that those creatures climb on and move on their own." said Chomper pointing to the satomobiles.
"Or those flying things, they don't look like flyers since they don't have wings." said Ruby pointing to the blimps.
"Yes. That's impressive, but how are we going to find a way back if there are many of those creatures everywhere?" asked Cera.
"Petrie, could you fly high to see where we are?" asked Ducky.
"No. No. Me don't wanna fly around strange place. Especially with those things flying around." said Petrie.
As the gang talked between the things they had seen and how to get home, Spike began to sniff something in the air. Turning his head to the side, he saw a flower shop with several plants set outside on display.
Spike licked his lips at how delicious the plants looked and turned away from the others to approach the plants and start eating them. He may not have known what kinds of plants they were, but to Spike, it wasn't important.
Unfortunately, he hadn't noticed that the florist was nearby, watering the plants outside, and when she turned to continue her task, she froze as she saw Spike eating her plants.
"AH!" shouted the florist causing Spike to stop eating and drawing the attention of the gang. "Get away from my plants, you awful nasty bug!" said the florist waving the watering can as she approached the spiketail, causing it to back away in fear.
"Hey, don't talk of my little brother like that!" said Ducky standing next to Spike and scowling at the flower girl.
"AAHH! It spoke! AAHHH!" the flower girl began to shout, leaving the two siblings in shock as the people around them turned their gaze towards them.
"Ducky! Spike! Over here!" shouted Littlefoot, drawing the attention of the two siblings who ran to join them before the whole gang fled from the scene.
"Great. So much for not attracting attention." said Cera as she ran with the others.
"At least we know how they'll react to seeing us." said Chomper.
Getting back to Korra, she was standing on the bank of a river, warming three fish strung on a stick with her firebending while Naga was rummaging through the river for more fish. They both happened to be in a huge park in the middle of the city.
Korra warmed the fish on a stick she was holding a bit more and then blew on it a bit to cool it down. Suddenly, next to her, through some bushes, a strange man peeked out.
Korra was about to bite into her food when she noticed the man's presence, something that startled her a little.
"Uh, say, think I can I get one of them tasty-smelling fishies?" asked Gommu who looked like a wanderer.
"Oh, uh, yeah, sure." said Korra agreeing to share.
The vagabond walked over to her, picked up a stick with a fish strung on it and started eating it.
"So, do you… live in that bush?" asked Korra curiously.
"Yes, presently that is what I do call home. Took me a while to procure a bush that beauteous. This park is quite popular with all the vagabonds." said Gommu.
"So there are a lot of you out here? I thought everyone in this city was 'living it up'." said Korra making the vagabond laugh.
"Hey, you've got a lot to learn, newcomer. Welcome to Republic City." said Gommu.
Korra started to think about whether or not what she thought of the city was completely true or not while wondering where she had gotten herself, but then, she turned her head to see a guard near where they were.
"Hey, you! Stop! You can't fish here!" said a guard running towards them.
"You best skedaddle!" said Gommu before turning back to his bush.
With a hiss, Korra called out to Naga and jumped on her back to flee the scene. The cop tried to chase after her, but tired and stopped to catch his breath. Behind him Gommu could be seen peeking out from his bush to say goodbye
On the other side of the park, the gang stopped for a break from their escape to eat some food and drink some water.
"This is stupid. They'll end up finding us if we keep this up." said Cera.
"But there no other way." said Petrie.
"Yes. You saw how they got when they saw Ducky and Spike." said Chomper eating a flying insect.
"We just have to be more careful." said Littlefoot.
Cera approached a bush to get a bite to eat and when she plucked a handful of leaves, she ran into a pair of human eyes, something that made her scream and recoil, drawing the attention of the others. From inside the bush, another vagabond emerged.
"Well, well, well. What have we here? A couple of stray pets." the vagabond said before leaning over and holding out his hand. "Come on, pretty ones. Come closer."
At first, the gang was scared that the same situation would happen as before, but then they were confused when the homeless man acts like that.
However, for Cera, rather than confusion, it was anger.
"But what did you take me for, huh?" asked Cera annoyed that the vagabond treated her like a hatchling fresh out of the egg.
That made the vagabond look very surprised.
"Did you just... Did you just talk?" asked the vagabond.
"Well, she moved her lips and words came out of those lips." said Ruby.
The vagabond stared at the gang wide-eyed before he stood up fully and put his hand on his head.
"I think I had drink too much last night. I'm still hallucinating." The vagabond said before walking away, leaving the gang confused by the vagabond's behavior.
"That was really weird." said Ducky.
"It's too late to change it now. Let's go before someone else finds us out." said Littlefoot.
"Before?" asked Cera.
Meanwhile, Korra was still strolling through the park on Naga's back.
"Are you tired of living under the tyranny of benders? Then join the Equalists! For too long, the bending elite of this city have forced non-benders to live as lower-class citizens. Join Amon, and together we will tear down the bending establishment." said a protester standing on a table in front of a poster of a masked man.
"What are you talking about? Bending is the coolest thing in the world." said Korra in defense.
"Oh yeah? Let me guess: you're a bender." said the protester.
"Yeah, I am." said Korra.
"Then I bet you'd just love to knock me off this platform with some waterbending, huh?" asked the protester trying to turn the conversation in his favor.
"I'm seriously thinking about it." said Korra crossing her arms.
"This is what's wrong with this city! Benders like this girl only use their power to oppress us!" said the protester, getting the overhearing people to groan at Korra, who looked confused.
"What? I'm not oppressing anyone! You're... you're oppressing yourselves!" said Korra trying to excuse herself.
"That didn't even make sense." said the protester as Korra walked away from the scene.
Nearby, the gang arrived at that same spot just as Korra and Naga left.
"What are they talking about?" asked Littlefoot.
"I don't know, but it seems pretty important if there are that many of them gathered together." said Chomper.
"Whatever it is, I'm not interested." said Cera.
"Cera right. We must find our way home." said Petrie.
"Ok. Ok." said Littlefoot and walked away with the others.
Later, Korra and Naga continued their stroll through the streets of the city. Then, she approached a couple of people.
"Excuse me, I think I'm lost. How do I get to Air Temple Island from here?" asked Korra.
"Just head down this street." began an older lady when suddenly, across the corner, a red satomobile appeared. "You should get moving, young lady. It isn't safe." said the older lady running away in fright, much to the Avatar's confusion.
Just then, the gang arrived on the scene.
The red satomobile stopped and out of it came three men who approached a man who was cleaning a phonograph.
"Mr. Chung, please tell me that you have my money, or else I can't guarantee I can protect your fine establishment." said one of the men wearing a hat, who looked like the leader, while another man behind him created a flame from his palm to emphasize what his boss was saying, much to the horror of the man with the phonograph.
"I'm sorry, business has been slow. Please, take one of my phonographs." said Mr. Chung approaching them to offer the phonograph he was cleaning earlier.
The firebender lifted his leg with a small flame on the sole of his foot and as he lowered his leg he struck the flame against the phonograph, setting it on fire in the process and scaring the master of the store so badly that he fell down sitting on the floor.
Needless to say, the gang was shocked at what had just happened.
"Did you see that?" asked Littlefoot.
"That guy has created fire out of nothing." said Chomper.
"But it's not possible. No, no, no." said Ducky as Spike shook his head.
"Those guys really scary." said Petrie.
"Well, they don't scare me at all." said Cera trying to play tough even though deep down she was a little scared that he could shoot fire.
"My friend here is not a music lover. Give me the money, or else..." started the leader with the typical mobster threat when…
"Or else what, hoodlum?" the three men turned around to see Korra standing behind them with a cocky grin and hands on her hips.
The gang stared, wondering what this girl was going to do as the three men looked at each other in confusion before bursting out laughing.
"Since you're obviously fresh off the boat, let me explain a couple things. You're in Triple Threat Triad territory, and we're about to put you, in the hospital." said the leader.
"Triple Threat Triad?" asked Cera curious about the name.
"Must be the name of the pack those guys belong to." said Ruby.
Littlefoot stared at the scene between the girl and the men, it was like when he and his friends stood in front of Red Claw and his minions, but now it turned out that one of them had the uncanny ability to expel fire. He couldn't help but worry for her.
"You're the only ones who are gonna need a hospital and, for your sake…" began Korra before slamming her fist into her palm. "I hope there's one nearby."
"Ha. I don't know who she is, but I like her already." said Cera with a smile.
"Who do you think you are?" asked the leader starting to get pissed off.
"Why don't you come and find out?" asked Korra with a toothy grin and a narrowed gaze.
The leader's eye twitched a little before he reached into his jacket and tossed a water bullet that Korra caught with her hand before tossing it back to its owner, hitting the head and freezing it, encasing it in a block of ice.
The leader staggered a bit towards her before Korra kicked him aside, sending him crashing into the red satomobile, causing the ice on the head to shatter, and freeing him, albeit unconscious.
The other two men were shocked to see their boss knocked down.
The larger of them, an earthbender, turned to Korra with a scowl and lunged toward her with a shout as he prepared to make a bending attack, but Korra was quicker and raised a stone platform beneath him that launched him upward.
"What happened?" asked Chomper in shock.
"It's unbelievable. She's picked up the water like it was a rock and threw it back up before freezing it." said Littlefoot in shock.
"And then she lift chunk of dirt off ground." said Petrie in equal state.
"But what are these creatures? How can they do that kind of thing?" asked Cera.
"I don't know, but she seems to be winning." said Ducky.
"Looks like she was stronger than we thought before we saw how strong she was." said Ruby.
The earthbender fell over a rope that pushed him against a sign, then fell over a tent pergola that threw him against a hanging fabric he tried to grab onto, but the fabric broke, and he ended up falling onto a box full of fruit before falling to the ground toppled over.
The last of them, horrified to see the larger one knocked down easily, screamed in desperation as he threw a flare at Korra, but she leapt out of the fire undoing the attack in the process before grabbing her opponent's hands with her own.
"Can she waterbend, earthbend and firebend, too?" asked the older lady who was watching the fight along with another man.
"Could she be?" asked the man beginning to understand who this girl was.
With her hands still clutching the evil man's hands, Korra began to turn, taking the man with her and with a groan of exertion, threw the man into a watch store, breaking the glass of the window in the process.
Korra approached the downed man with a small chuckle between her teeth.
"Got an idea about who I am now, chumps?" asked Korra arrogantly.
But while she was distracted, the gang realized, to their horror, that the other two evil men had gotten up and climbed into their vehicle before heading straight for Korra.
Without thinking, Littlefoot jumped in at once to help her.
"Littlefoot, wait!" shouted Cera trying to stop him.
Korra became aware of the vehicle coming dangerously close to her at the risk of running her over. Her first thought was to try to hold on to the hit as long as she could, but suddenly, Littlefoot rammed into her and pushed her out of the way in time.
They were both lying on the ground, sitting up with a slight groan. They both opened their eyes and the first thing they saw was each other.
While Littlefoot was looking at her curiously, Korra was looking at him with much curiosity and surprise. Even though she had been in a complex at the South Pole for years, she had never read, seen, or heard anything about a creature like the one she was seeing now. Besides, that creature had saved her from being run over.
"Come on!" the earthbender's voice snapped the two out of their state and they turned their heads to see the red satomobile approaching the watch store where the firebender who had been knocked down there was getting up in time to see the satomobile pass by the store.
The firebender tried to catch up, but the earthbender erected a platform beneath him, throwing him into the back of the satomobile as he continued on his way.
Seeing the bad guys running away, Korra quickly got up and ran after them.
"You're not getting away!" shouted Korra before using earthbending to send a jolt of earth that hit the satomobile and threw it into the air, but landed on its feet, though the shock of that caused them to steer the satomobile directly into another tent.
Korra, Naga, and the gang arrived at the crash site to see the three bad men fall from the toppled satomobile.
Korra was smiling at her feat while the gang was amazed at what she had done. Before anyone said anything, they began to hear sirens. They looked both ways before looking up to see an airship above them.
That made Petrie shiver in fear as he hid behind Cera's ridge.
"Police! Freeze where you are!" said a voice from the blimp.
The doors of the blimp opened and from them, three men in uniform jumped out. In mid-fall, they threw metal ropes from their sleeves that dug into the walls of the street and then used them to slow their fall, allowing them to land softly.
"Cool! Metalbenders!" said Korra to the gang's confusion.
When a fourth metalbender landed at all, they retracted the metal ropes back to their original place.
"I caught the bad guys for you, officers." said Korra pointing to the three men staggering and groaning out of the tent.
"Arrest them!" said Sergeant Saikhan as the other three policemen took a few steps forward and then threw metal ropes at the three evil men that wrapped around each of them, trapping them as they fell to the ground.
As the cops took the bad guys away, Saikhan approached Korra and pointed his finger at her.
"You're under arrest, too." said Sergeant Saikhan to the shock of the Avatar who let out a gasp at that, as did the gang.
"What do you mean I'm under arrest? Those are the bad guys over there! They were smashing up a shop!" said Korra explaining the situation.
"From the looks of it, you smashed up a lot more than that." said Sergeant Saikhan before throwing a metal rope at her, but Korra stepped to the side and grabbed the rope.
"Wait, you… you can't arrest me! Let me explain!" said Korra.
"You can explain yourself all you like, down at headquarters." Sergeant Saikhan said before retracting his metal rope and trying to hit Korra with it, but Korra flipped backwards with a somersault.
Cera charged towards the cop and with a leap, hit him back and knocked him down.
The other policemen moved in for the attack.
Korra jumped on Naga and before she took a step, she glanced at the gang. She couldn't just leave them there after the one with the long neck saved her from the satomobile and the one with the horn helped her a moment ago. So she made a decision.
"Get on, quick!" shouted Korra.
Without a second thought, the gang climbed on top of Naga's loin, though they had to squeeze in a bit, as there were too many of them. Once they were all on board, they set about fleeing the scene.
Quickly, Naga turned to the side, allowing Korra to kick a policeman who jumped towards them before Naga continued to flee with her passengers on top of her. One policeman threw his metal rope which became entangled in a cable. Pulling it back, he lunged upwards and slid down a cable as he chased them.
He tried to hit them with two metal ropes, but Naga dodged in time, causing them to hit the ground. Soon after, Naga turned a corner in time to dodge another pair of metal ropes, though they slipped a bit in the process before continuing their escape.
"Hey, could you be more careful?" asked Littlefoot.
"You're going to get us hurt." said Cera.
"I'm doing my best." said Korra before realizing something. "Wait, can you talk?" asked Korra very surprised.
"Why is everyone surprised about that?" asked Ruby.
Suddenly, as they were crossing a bridge, a policeman jumped down from a rooftop and threw metal ropes that got tangled in Korra's top ponytail, making her groan in pain from the pull, but quickly raised the river water and froze it to form a wall of ice, which the policeman crashed into, causing Korra to break free of the rope.
Korra and the gang glanced back to see the policeman who had crashed into the ice wall slide to the ground. After that, Korra turned her attention to the front.
Naga ran up some stairs until she reached a bridge, forcing a vehicle to stop in the process. Naga continued running as Chomper looked to the side to see two policemen sliding down the wires.
"Two left!" said Chomper making Korra notice as well before making Naga turn in another direction.
Naga continued to run until she suddenly jumped off the bridge as a train passed underneath. Unfortunately, the jump was so sudden that Ducky ended up being thrown into the air as she screamed.
"Gotcha!" said Korra grabbing Ducky before it was too late and hugged her to her chest just as Naga managed to land on top of the train.
Korra let out a sigh as she saw that they all managed to land safely.
"Thank you." said Ducky gratefully.
"You're welcome." said Korra before turning her gaze towards Air Temple Island.
"Eh, guys. Flying thing approaching!" said Petrie pointing to the sky, where they all saw the police blimp flying overhead.
Korra pulled on Naga's reins and the polar bear dog started running down the train and jumped towards another building, but no sooner had she landed on the roof than several metal ropes wrapped around Naga's paws and lifted her into the air.
Before Korra could try anything, a pair of metal ropes wrapped around her to restrain her arms and so did the gang as they flailed around trying to free themselves from the ropes, but to no avail. Korra kept trying to free herself for a while until, at last, she gave up, realizing that she had been captured.
At the Republic City police station, where there was a statue of Toph Beifong, the founder of the force and former police chief, sat Korra handcuffed on a table in an interrogation room.
"Let's see. Multiple counts of destruction of private and city property, not to mention evading arrest…" said an older woman as she walked behind Korra with a filing cabinet she banged on the table. "You're in a whole mess of trouble, young lady."
"But there were some thugs threatening a helpless shopkeeper, and I had it…" began Korra trying to explain again.
"Can it! You should have called the police and stayed out of the way." said the older woman.
"But I couldn't just sit by and do nothing. It's my duty to help people. See, I'm the Avatar." said Korra revealing her status.
"Oh, I am well aware of who you are. And your Avatar title might impress some people, but not me." said the older woman with her arms crossed.
"All right, fine. Then I want to talk to whoever's in charge." said Korra.
"You're talking to her." revealed the older woman as she sat down across from her. "I'm Chief Beifong."
"Wait, Beifong? Lin Beifong? You're Toph's daughter!" said Korra surprised at the revelation.
"What of it?" asked Lin.
"Well then, why are you treating me like a criminal? Avatar Aang and your mother were friends. They saved the world together." said Korra remembering the stories of the previous Avatar.
"That's ancient history. And it's got diddly-squat to do with the mess you're in right now. You can't just waltz in here and dole out vigilante justice like you own the place!" said Lin before a part of the wall opened up to reveal another cop behind it.
"Chief, Councilman Tenzin is here." the policeman reported.
"Let him in." said Lin before getting up.
Then, the wall opened from side to side, allowing Tenzin to enter the room and from the look on his face, he wasn't happy to see her.
"Tenzin, sorry… I got a little sidetracked on my way to see you." said Korra trying to sound innocent, but to no avail.
With a deep inhale to reduce his annoyance, Tenzin turned to see Lin with a smile.
"Lin, you are looking radiant as usual." said Tenzin greeting an old friend.
"Cut the garbage, Tenzin. Why is the Avatar in Republic City? I thought you were supposed to be moving down to the South Pole to train her." said Lin.
"My relocation has been delayed." said Tenzin before shooting an angry and disappointed look at Korra, who lowered her head at that. "The Avatar, on the other hand, will be heading back to the South Pole immediately, where she will stay put."
"But...!" began Korra trying to explain but was interrupted and ignored.
"If you would be so kind as to drop the charges against Korra, I will take full responsibility for today's regrettable events and cover all the damages." said Tenzin.
Lin glanced over her shoulder at Korra before turning her gaze back to the airbender and letting out a small sigh.
"Fine." said Lin using her bend ability to espouse Korra without even looking. "Get her out of my city."
"Always a pleasure, Lin. Let's go, Korra." said Tenzin walking out of the room with Korra behind him as she rubbed her wrists.
Lin threw the Avatar a two-fingered 'I'm watching you' gesture, which Korra did to her, much to the confusion of the police chief.
However, when Korra was two steps away from the interrogation room, something flashed through her mind, something she had forgotten about until now.
"Wait, what will happen to them?" asked Korra turning to see the police chief at the entrance of the room.
"Them?" asked Lin.
"The..." began Korra until she remembered she didn't know exactly what they were. "The ones that were with me." said Korra.
"Ah, those creatures. Since we don't know what they are or where they came from, we'll keep them here until we know what to do with them." said Lin.
Korra began to think about the gang. Korra may have only known them for a few minutes, but it was clear that they weren't normal creatures and not just because they could talk like humans. Also, from the tone of their voices, she could tell they were children, children who would be locked in a cage for who knows how long.
A part of her told her that she couldn't leave them in this situation.
"I'd like to see them." said Korra earnestly, to the surprise of the two adults.
"Korra, now isn't the time to..." began Tenzin.
"Please. I just... I just want to see them." said Korra with slight pleading.
Tenzin was a little surprised that Korra was willing to see the creatures he had been told were with her when she was arrested. Knowing that she would accomplish nothing by refusing, he had to agree to her request.
"Is it a problem?" asked Tenzin to the police chief.
"Not really, but if there is even one problem, I will intervene. Understood?" asked Lin.
Korra smiled as she saw that she had gotten what she wanted.
"Sure." said Korra.
In another room of the police station, the gang was in a cage big enough to lock them all in.
While the others were saddened by their situation, Cera was busy trying to break free by charging at the bars and banging them with her head.
"Cera, that's the fifth time you've done that, and nothing has happened since you started doing that." said Ruby.
"I even tried to break them with my teeth, but they're harder than a rock." said Chomper.
"I don't care! I won't stand by as long as they keep us locked in here!" said Cera before banging her head against the bars again.
"What gonna happen to us?" asked Petrie.
"*Gasp* What if they plan to eat us?" asked Ducky.
Spike was so freaked out by that that he tried to bury his head, but ended up hitting the floor of the cage, letting out a groan of pain.
"I don't think they plan to eat us." said Littlefoot drawing the attention of the others.
"And what makes you think that?" asked Chomper.
"If they wanted to eat us, they would have done it by now, but instead they locked us in this strange place." said Littlefoot.
"Oh, come on, Littlefoot, don't be naïve. They locked us up to eat us later!" said Cera not believing her friend's words.
Suddenly, they began to hear voices from behind the door.
"This is the key to the cage and remember, just one problem and I'll get in." said an older woman's voice from behind the door.
"And don't be too long." said a grown man's voice from behind the door.
"I know. I know." said a young voice that sounded familiar to the gang.
Soon after the door opened, and the gang was a little surprised to see the girl they were with earlier enter the room and close the door behind her. The gang stared at her, wondering what she was going to do.
"Calm down. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just going to set you free." said Korra before crouching down and using the key to unlock the cage. "You can come out now. There's no danger."
Slowly, the gang came out of the cage, after seeing that this girl was no danger.
"Thanks for getting us out." Littlefoot said with a smile.
"Wow. You can really talk." said Korra.
"But why does everyone find it weird that we talk? Do they think we're stupid or what?" asked Cera very angry at the constant questioning.
"No. No. Of course not. It's just not normal to see talking to..." began Korra before realizing something she'd been curious about all along. "By the way, what are you really?"
"We're dinosaurs." said Chomper.
"Dinosaurs? I've never heard of anything like that." said Korra.
"What do you mean? There's a lot of us all over the place." said Ruby.
"Honestly, this is the first time I've seen creatures like you." said Korra.
"What? But that impossible." said Petrie on the verge of panic.
Korra could see the conversation was getting a little off track, so she decided to switch to a very basic topic.
"Come to think of it. I don't know your names." said Korra knowing that if they could talk, they had to have a name to recognize each other.
"I'm Littlefoot, I'm a longneck." said Littlefoot.
"I'm Cera, I'm a threehorn." said Cera.
"But you only have one." said Korra pointing to her nose.
"They'll grow on me when I'm older, okay?!" expressed Cera angrily earning a scowl from Korra.
"I'm Ducky, a swimmer and this is my little brother, Spike, he's a spiketail." said Ducky as Spike nodded.
"Can't he talk?" asked Korra curiously.
"Oh, yes he can talk, but he does it when he wants to. Right, Spike?" asked Ducky getting a nod from her little brother.
"How come you are siblings when you are from different species?" asked Korra curiously.
"You see, I found Spike when he had just hatched and since there was no one around, I decided to adopt him as my little brother." said Ducky hugging the spiketail's neck who responded by licking his sister who shook a little from the saliva.
Korra couldn't help but smile at the affection the two of them had.
"Me Petrie, me flyer." said Petrie flying a little before landing.
"I am Chomper, I am a sharptooth, but a good one." said Chomper.
"What do you mean by that?" asked Korra arching an eyebrow.
"Sharpteeth usually wanna eat us." said Petrie.
Korra understood at that moment that sharpteeth must be predators or something.
"But Chomper is different, we found his egg by accident and ended up taking care of him until we returned him to his parents." explained Littlefoot telling the story of how they met their sharptooth friend.
Korra smiled that they were nicer than she could have imagined.
"And I'm Ruby, I'm a fast runner. Ruby, a fast runner, I am." said Ruby, confusing the Avatar by the way she spoke.
"And who are you?" asked Littlefoot.
"Oh, I'm Korra and I'm... a human." said Korra introducing herself.
"Human? That's the creatures we saw all over this place?" asked Cera.
"Not just here, but all over the world. Right now we're in Republic City, where benders and non-benders from all over can live together." said Korra.
"What's a bender?" asked Ducky.
Korra was starting to get confused, not only was she in front of creatures she had never seen before, but they claimed to have never seen a human or bender.
"A bender is a person who has the ability to bend one of the four elements. Earth, fire, air and water." explained Korra.
"That's right, those guys you fought could move water and fire somehow. Those were bender?" asked Chomper.
"That's right." said Korra.
"But we saw you bend more than one element." said Ruby.
"That's because I'm the Avatar." said Korra with a smile, trying to look amazing.
"The Avatar?" asked Littlefoot.
"The Avatar is the only person who can bend all four elements and has the duty to keep the peace and balance of the world." explained Korra.
"Wow. You are awesome if you have such a duty." said Littlefoot impressed by the girl.
"I know." said Korra crossing her arms and closing her eyes.
"Well what an Avatar you are if you get caught like that." said Cera.
"Hey! They were the ones who started it, I wanted to stop them from hurting someone!" said Korra.
"And you did very well. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
"Thank you. Finally someone who appreciates what I did." said Korra.
"Tsk. I understand you. Where we come from, grown-ups sometimes don't appreciate what we do." said Cera.
"Now that you mention it. Where exactly are you from?" asked Korra going to a topic she had been meaning to bring up for a while.
"We come from the Great Valley." said Littlefoot.
"The Great Valley? I don't know much about the world, but I'm sure there's no place by that name." said Korra.
"You not hear from Great Valley? What happening here?!" asked Petrie panicking once again.
Korra was also asking herself the same questions and decided to try to answer them with another one in particular.
"Out of curiosity. How did you end up here?" asked Korra.
"We were playing in the caves in the big wall when we found a hidden chamber." said Littlefoot explaining what happened.
"Inside we found a strange stone that glowed. Then someone..." began Cera turning her head towards the longneck before returning her gaze to the Avatar. "Decided to touch it and before we knew it we were in a strange place full of strange creatures with strange abilities." said Cera explaining their arrival in the city.
Korra crossed her arms and placed her hand on her chin as she began to analyze all the information she had received during the entire conversation. The fact that she had never heard of the dinosaurs that they claimed were everywhere, the fact that they came from a place she didn't know, the fact that they never heard or saw any humans or bending, and most of all, the fact that they found a strange stone that, when touched, led them directly to that city.
After analyzing everything completely, she came to a conclusion. It was very strange, almost impossible, but there was no other way he could explain the situation.
"Guys, I think I know what's going on." said Korra.
"Really? What's really going on?" asked Littlefoot.
"I think, when you touched that stone, you were transported to another world." said Korra, leaving the gang wide-eyed.
"Hahaha. Right. And expect us to believe that?" asked Cera not believing the Avatar's explanation.
"Think about it for a moment. I never heard of dinosaurs, or the Great Valley and you have never heard of humans or their cities and abilities." said Korra mentioning the points that supported her theory.
The gang was shocked after hearing the Avatar's explanation.
"Looked at that way, it does seem like we're in another world if we look at it that way." said Ruby.
"I can't believe it. We're in another world where dinosaurs like us don't exist." said Chomper going into shock.
"That cannot be!" said Petrie.
"You've got to be kidding me!" said Cera.
"What are we going to do? If we're in another world, how will we get home? Where will we go?" asked Ducky as Spike groaned a little in fear and sadness.
"I don't know, Ducky. I have no idea." said Littlefoot starting to get sad about the situation.
Korra felt sorry for them. They were children, far from home, in a world they didn't know at all, at risk of being locked up until the police did with them what only the spirits knew. At first, she just wanted to talk to them, but after learning of their situation, she couldn't leave them there.
It was then that an idea crossed her mind.
"I have an idea! Why don't you come with me?" asked Korra, getting the attention of the gang who were confused by her question.
"Do you want us to come with you? Why?" asked Littlefoot.
"Well, you helped me during the fight earlier. Besides, I have several... contacts that could help you find a way for you to return to your world, to your home." said Korra.
"Really? Okay then! What do you say, guys?" asked Littlefoot.
"If there's no other choice." said Cera.
"I say yes. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky jumping for joy as Spike nodded in agreement.
"Me agree with Korra's idea." said Petrie.
"Why not? It could be fun. A chance to explore this amazing new world." said Chomper.
"It will be like an adventure, an adventure that will be exciting." said Ruby.
Korra was happy that they accepted her offer, but there was still one more issue to make official and she was sure it wouldn't be easy, but she had to try for them.
"All right, then. I just need to talk to Tenzin and Lin for a moment to see if I can take you with me." said Korra.
"Who are they?" asked Littlefoot.
"Tenzin is... my master and Lin is the city police chief." said Korra.
"Police?" asked Cera.
"It's a group that is in charge of protecting the city from those who don't follow the law." said Korra.
"Ok." said Cera accepting the Avatar's explanation.
"Wait here, I won't be long." said Korra before heading for the door and leaving the room to meet the two adults.
"You took your time." said Lin.
"What happened in there?" asked Tenzin.
"Well... it's a little weird to tell, but..." began Korra before taking a deep breath, preparing for the big explanation. "Turns out they are dinosaurs that come from a place called the Great Valley, which you probably don't know because, surprise, they come from another world and I know this because they told me that, while they were playing in a cave they came across a strange stone that, when they touched it, led them to Republic City and now they are lost without knowing how to get back to their world." said Korra quickly before letting out a big sigh.
Needless to say, the two adults were wide-eyed in puzzlement at the Avatar's explanation.
"Are you kidding me? That's the stupidest story I've ever heard." said Lin.
"There's no way such a thing could be possible." said Tenzin.
"But it is. Think about it. Have any of you ever heard of dinosaurs or a place called the Great Valley?" said Korra.
The two adults began to think about what Korra said, but, to their hidden surprise, they came up with nothing.
"No. I've never in my life seen or heard of creatures like that." said Lin.
"And I've read hundreds of ancient texts and none of them talked about dinosaurs or that Great Valley you mentioned." said Tenzin.
"Do you see? You haven't because they aren't of this world." said Korra.
"All right. Let's assume your story of creatures from another world is real. What do you want us to do with that?" asked Lin crossing her arms.
"Uh... Well." began Korra before looking down with a nervous smile as she touched her index fingers together. "I had thought... that... I could take them with me." said Korra looking at Tenzin with a smile full of nervousness.
Tenzin was in shock at the Avatar's request.
"What?" asked Tenzin with a frown.
"Please, Tenzin. They are just children away from home and their families in a world they know nothing about. Yes, Lin may suggest that staying here would be for the best, but it isn't. Besides, I'm sure that, with your knowledge and contacts, you could find a way to return them to their world. Please, Tenzin, let me take them." said Korra clasping her hands together and trying to give him puppy dog eyes.
Tenzin wanted to refuse, but he couldn't help but be surprised at how determined Korra was for those dinosaurs. She even got to the point of pleading with him in a way similar to when his daughters would ask him for something. Besides, if she did end up going back to the South Pole, she could surely use some company, since she hasn't had many friends except for Naga.
"*Sigh* Very well. If that's what you want, I'll accept it, but they'll be your responsibility and you won't get out of going back to the South Pole." said Tenzin.
Even though she was still going back to the South Pole, Korra wore a big smile on her face as she achieved her purpose and quickly turned to open the door to see the gang.
"Good news, guys! You can come!" said Korra.
The gang erupted in cheers of joy as they approached her, though Spike pounced on her, knocking her to the ground. Korra let out a cry of surprise that turned to laughter as the spiketail began to lick her face enthusiastically.
"Stop it! Stop it! You're tickling me!" said Korra as she laughed.
"Are you okay with this?" asked Tenzin to the police chief.
"I'm fine with it. It will save me quite a bit of work." said Lin.
"Very well. Then let's go." said Tenzin as Spike turned away from Korra, allowing her to stand up as she wiped the saliva from her face.
And so, the Avatar and the gang followed the airbender towards the exit though Cera paused for a moment to look at Lin with a narrowed gaze and then stuck her tongue out at her before continuing on her way.
"Mph. Kids." said Lin with a shrug.
Later, Korra, Tenzin and the gang were in a waiting room. With the gang issue resolved, Korra returned her focus to the previous topic, her return to the South Pole.
"Tenzin, regarding what you said about returning to the South Pole, please don't send me back home." said Korra.
"You blatantly disobeyed my wishes and the orders of the White Lotus." said Tenzin.
"What are you talking about?" asked Littlefoot.
"It's a long story. I'll tell it to you later." said Korra.
"And I've done enough for you by letting you stay with them." said Tenzin.
"But Katara agreed with me that I should come. She said my destiny is in Republic City." said Korra.
"Don't bring my mother into this!" exclaimed Tenzin with an angry red face.
"If your mother agreed, then it's a good thing." said Ducky along with a nod from Spike.
"Me mom always right." said Petrie.
"And they shouldn't be opposed." said Chomper.
"For the love of..." said Tenzin patting his face as he saw that the gang was siding with the Avatar.
"Look, I can't wait any longer to finish my training. Being cooped up and hidden away from the world isn't helping me become a better Avatar." said Korra.
"That's right. According to her, the Avatar must protect the world." said Ruby.
"And she won't be able to do that if she's cooped up all the time in that place you want to take her to." said Cera.
"I saw a lot of the city today, and it's totally out of whack. I understand now why you need to stay. Republic City does need you. But it needs me, too." said Korra.
"You… ah..." began Tenzin unable to find a counter argument to Korra's argument.
"May I say something?" asked Littlefoot getting the attention of the two humans. "My friends and I have only been in town for a short time, but we could see that Korra is right that you are in trouble. You may have a duty to solve them, but you can't do it alone and I'm sure Korra could help a lot if you would give her the chance." said Littlefoot.
Korra smiled at the longneck's words of support and patted his head in appreciation.
Needless to say, Tenzin couldn't help but be taken aback by the longneck's words.
Before anyone else said anything…
"Is this your polar bear dog, miss?" said a guard with Naga at his side as she held the leash.
"Who is she?" asked Chomper.
"She's Naga. Naga, these are my new friends." said Korra introducing her animal friend to the gang.
Spike walked over to her, and they both stood staring at each other before Spike wagged his tail, which Naga mimicked. Then Spike tilted her head to the side, which Naga also mimicked. Then, Spike licked the polar bear dog's face before she licked his face completely with her own.
"Hehe. They seem to be getting along well." said Ducky.
"Yeah, it looks that way." said Korra with a smile.
Later, as night was setting in, they were all in a boat heading for Air Temple Island.
Tenzin stared at the statue of his father, pondering what to do, while Korra gazed at the receding city with the gang at her side.
"Hey, Korra. Who's that over there?" asked Littlefoot pointing his head at the statue next to him.
"Oh, that's Avatar Aang." said Korra.
"I thought you were the Avatar." said Chomper.
"I am. You see, when one Avatar dies, another is born in a cycle of reincarnation. Aang was the Avatar before me. In fact, it was he and his friends who founded the city." explained Korra.
"He sure was an amazing Avatar." said Ruby.
"Yes, he was, and I hope one day to become as amazing as he was." said Korra.
"But you're already amazing Korra. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
"Well... The truth is, I'm not a full Avatar." said Korra.
"What do you mean?" asked Littlefoot.
"I may be able to waterbend, earthbend and firebend, but I haven't airbend yet." said Korra.
"Don't you know how airbend?" asked Petrie in surprise.
"No. Tenzin, Aang's son, was supposed to be my airbending master, but he told me I had to delay because of problems in the city. I suggested coming here, but they kept telling me I couldn't leave." said Korra.
"So you ran away, did you?" asked Cera.
"Yes, although I didn't expect to find the city in that state and now Tenzin wants me to go back to the South Pole." said Korra depressed at having to leave soon after arriving.
"Well, you may not have gotten what you wanted, but no matter where you go, we'll be with you." said Littlefoot trying to cheer her up.
"Thank you." said Korra giving the longneck a smile.
Finally, after a while of waiting, they reached the island, where, on the other side of the harbor, was a larger ship, with three White Lotus guards waiting at the entrance.
Korra, saddened by the situation, made her way to the ship with the gang at her side.
Just then, Petrie, who was on Korra's shoulder, spotted something in the sky.
"Hey, those flyers!" said Petrie pointing to the sky, where they saw Tenzin's sons flying in their gliders toward them.
"They aren't flyers, Petrie." said Korra.
The young airbenders landed on the ground.
"Korra!" shouted the three children going to hug Korra.
"Are you coming to live with us on the island?" asked Ikki before Korra knelt down to their full height.
"No, I'm sorry, Ikki. I have to go home now." said Korra.
"Oh..." groaned the children in disappointment.
"But I'm not going alone this time. I've made some friends in town." said Korra with a small smile.
"Really? Who?" asked Jinora.
"They." said Korra standing up and pointing to the gang.
The young airbenders were a bit confused by this.
"Huh? What are those creatures?" asked Meelo.
"Aw, they're adorable!" exclaimed Ikki before running over to them and picking up Cera as she hugged her. "I'm Ikki, what's your name?" asked Ikki before Cera broke free from the hug.
"My name is Cera, and I don't like to be hugged." said Cera.
"Wow. They can talk." said Jinora impressed.
"I know. I was surprised at first too." said Korra.
"Who are you?" asked Meelo.
"I'm Littlefoot. You already know Cera. The others are Ducky, Petrie, Spike, Chomper and Ruby." said Littlefoot.
"Are you sure you don't want to stay? Please, we could be great friends." said Ikki.
"I'm sure we would be. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
"But we have to go with Korra, because if Korra leaves, so do we." said Ruby.
"It's a pity. I have so many questions for you." said Jinora.
"It's not fair." said Meelo crossing his arms.
"I know, but we have to do it." said Chomper.
Tenzin stood with his children watching as Korra, Naga and the gang made their way to the ship.
But when they were halfway there…
"Wait. I have done my best to guide Republic City toward the dream my father had for it, but you're right. It has fallen out of balance since he passed. I thought I should put off your training in order to uphold his legacy, but you are his legacy. You may stay and train airbending here with me. Republic City needs its Avatar once again." said Tenzin bringing a big smile to the Avatar.
"Yes! Thank you! You're the best! Did you hear that? We get to stay!" said Korra with great joy before the young airbenders and the gang cheered with joy and happiness.
Korra was so happy that she brought Tenzin and his children in a group hug as the gang stood nearby and Naga rubbed her head on Korra's back, much to everyone's amusement, except for Tenzin who wasn't sure how it would all turn out, especially with the gang present.
The next day, in front of Republic City's city hall, several people, including journalists, gathered for the main topic of conversation, the arrival of the Avatar.
Korra stood behind a podium full of microphones, looking at all the people who had come while being bombarded by the photographers' flashbulbs. On one side, there was Tenzin and the gang and on the other side was Naga and Lin.
Korra was a little nervous, but as she looked to her side, she saw Littlefoot giving her a supportive nod with a smile which Korra returned as she cast her nerves aside.
Korra cleared her throat a little as she approached the mikes.
"I'm Korra, your new Avatar." said Korra introducing herself to the audience and listeners as the crowd cheered.
"Does this mean you've moved to Republic City?" asked a reporter.
"Were you trying to send a message to the Triads yesterday?" asked another journalist.
"Will you be fighting crime or the Anti-bending Revolution, or both?" asked another journalist.
"Will you be working with Chief Beifong and the police?" asked another journalist.
"What are those creatures standing next to Councilman Tenzin. Are they perhaps her pets or something?" asked another journalist.
"First of all, they aren't pets. They're my friends." said Korra bringing a smile to the gang seeing that she had defended them. "And second, yes, I am definitely here to stay, but honestly I… I don't exactly have a plan yet. See, I'm still in training, but look, all I know is Avatar Aang meant for this city to be the center of peace and balance in the world, and I believe we can make his dream a reality. I look forward to serving you!" said Korra as the photographers started taking more pictures.
Inside some building somewhere in the city, several people were listening to Korra's speech on the radio.
"I'm so happy to be here. Thank you, Republic City!" exclaimed Korra from the other side of the broadcast.
"All right, that's all the questions." said Tenzin from the radio before someone turned it off.
"Amon, how do you want to handle this?" asked a guy in a suit, glasses and mustache to a man who was holding his hands behind his back while his back was turned to him.
"So, the Avatar has arrived early. It looks like we'll have to accelerate our plans." said Amon as he turned his head, allowing us to see that he was wearing a mask covering his face.
AN: And here we end! I hope this chapter was up to par for everyone. See you in the next chapter, where the gang will learn more about that world.
