Of course, Kara snuck out without issue, since Alex was over her own rebellious days and had started going to bed right around nine every night. As soon as her sister was asleep, Kara slipped out of the house silently and started walking the two miles down her street towards the bus stop.
Knowing she was likely to be late, Kara had the courtesy to send a quick message to Lena as she turned the corner onto the next street.
KaraTheCareBear: Had to wait for my sister, World Class Tattle Tale, to go to bed. Waiting for the bus now.
Kara was surprised to get a reply in moments.
OfficialLenaLuthor: The bus? Oh, honey. You should've told me that yesterday. Stay where you are, send me your location, and I'll pick you up.
Hesitantly, as the situation became more real, Kara hit the icon to 'send location' to Lena. To her surprise, a 2017 Lamborghini Centenario Roadster – which Lena would tell her later was one of only forty made – pulled up in the bus's parking spot just a few moments later. Sitting in the driver seat, Kara could barely believe, was Lena Luthor, looking absolutely nothing like Lena Luthor. She was definitely wearing designer brands – Gucci sweater and jeans, Louis Vuitton sneakers – but the clothing was loosely fitted and baggy, even a little masculine. It was a more relaxed, casual look than Kara had ever seen the star wear in media.
"Well? Get in, loser! We're gonna egg this fucker's car!" Lena called out with a charming, toothy grin, as she noticed the girl simply staring dumbly at her.
This barely tore Kara from her stupor. In fact, the metaphorical kick in the face she needed only came when the bus arrived and honked its horn at the Lamborghini parked in its spot.
"Kara!" Lena cried with a laugh, the wind sending her hair blowing behind her. "Get in, would you? You're gonna get me arrested before we have any fun!"
Again, the bus honked, so Kara fumbled forward towards the curb and carefully let herself into the car, being exceptionally careful when closing the door so as not to slam it.
"Holy…" Kara breathed, not knowing whether to stare at the $2.8 million car she was sitting in, or the celebrity seated beside her.
(Of course, her eyes stopped on Lena and stayed there as the girl pulled them away from the curb and sped back onto the road.)
"What are these f—" Kara started to ask, realizing that she was sitting on something.
When she lifted her hips, leaning against the door slightly as she strained against the seatbelt, to pull the items out from underneath her, she realized she was holding two black hoodies.
"Wow, you're serious," the blonde finished, staring down at the articles of clothing that were obviously meant to make them less conspicuous.
"Of course I'm serious. I've got four egg cartons in the back, and I thought it might be fun to add some toilet paper too." Lena's eyes didn't leave the road as she smirked and quietly mused, "I hate Mercedes." Then, after a pause where Kara simply stared at her in wonder, she added, "And cheaters."
This made the blonde smile as she finally relaxed enough to lean back in the seat.
"Chill out, Nerd," Lena laughed. "Enjoy the ride."
After doing exactly that for several minutes as the Lambo sped through traffic, Kara started to ask, "So, how are you gonna—"
But before she could finish the sentence, Lena turned off to the gated community at Crystal Cove and raised her hand to silence the blonde. Kara watched in disbelief as the girl flirted her way through the guards at the entrance and winked at the two young men as the gate was opened.
"Wow," Kara breathed. "You're good."
"Nah," Lena chuckled. "Just cute."
Kara certainly couldn't argue. Lena was infinitely more beautiful in person, and she hadn't stopped staring at the star since she'd gotten in the car. The way the girl's hair was blowing in the wind, a gift provided by the car's convertible top, was enough to make Kara's heart stop.
"Which one?" Lena asked, shaking the blonde from her distracted daze. "Nevermind," the girl added, grinning as she found the Mercedes Kara had described in a driveway six houses down from the gate.
"Lena…" Kara whispered.
"Shh," Lena mumbled, driving past the driveway.
"What are you doing?"
"Shh!"
"But—"
"Kara!" Lena hissed. "We're gonna pull up by the dumpsters and walk. I'm not gonna park in her fucking driveway, dude. There's cameras everywhere."
"Oh… Right."
Blushing slightly, Kara dropped her gaze.
"Well? Put the sweater on, dipshit. You're not gonna go egg a car in front of cameras with a bright pink shirt – which I love, by the way. Nice rainbow."
"Oops," Kara mumbled, pulling the sweater over her head as Lena leaned over and grabbed her own sweater from the blonde's lap.
As soon as they were both out of the car, Lena handed Kara an egg carton with a smile, saying, "Let's egg this bitch and her piece of shit Mercedes."
When Lena winked at her, Kara couldn't help but smile, something in her stomach flipping and reminding her immediately that she was very much alive.
To Kara's surprise, rather than the star allowing her to follow close behind, she took the blonde's hand and tugged her along. Stopping at the edge of the driveway, Lena gently pushed her back.
"Stop here. Don't cross this line," Lena whispered. "This is where the camera's view stops."
"How the hell do you know that?" Kara gaped.
"Reasons," the brunette replied with a grin, opening the first egg carton and preparing an egg. "Ready to nail this bitch?"
Kara bit her lip, looking apprehensive, so Lena pressed, "Don't chicken out now. Let's blast this cheating cunt."
Kara had to laugh at this, so she covered her mouth to stop the sound from escaping. For whatever reason, Lena felt her own heart flutter at the quiet sound, noting how adorable it was and feeling warmth spread over her cheeks.
"I'll go first," the celebrity said softly. "She deserves this, Kara. Don't back out now."
With that, Lena whipped a fast ball at the car, as hard as her arm would allow, and Kara was surprised to find that this girl easily could've been a baseball pitcher.
"Wow," she breathed, staring.
"Kara!" Lena hissed. "Hurry up or we're gonna get caught!"
Shaking herself out of her shock and awe, Kara took the opportunity to throw eggs in time with her racing heart, adrenaline finally taking over and spurring her forward. By the time both cartons were empty, Lena was pulling out the toilet paper, tossing a few rolls over the car before dragging Kara away, back towards Lena's car.
"Move!" she urged the girl in a hushed whisper. "Go, go, go!"
The two were in the car faster than Kara could've imagined, and before she could believe it, they were speeding out of the gate. Luckily for them, two more cars pulled in at the same time (less chance of them getting caught. It could've been anyone egging the car.)
As the two sped away, Kara found herself breathless as she stared at her companion.
"Wow," she gaped. "That was… intense."
"Exhilarating," Lena agreed. "Now what?"
"What do you mean, 'Now what?' Now I go home to my boring ass life continuing to be miserable. But hey… I certainly do feel better about the breakup."
Kara's laugh was slightly bitter, and when Lena sensed this, her grin faded, and her expression became serious.
"I'm miserable too," the young star confessed, glancing quickly over at the girl beside her. When Kara bit her lip, looking sympathetic, she added brightly, "So, let's be miserable together."
"What?"
"Let's go hide somewhere. No fancy clubs, no paparazzi. Just… hanging out."
"With me? Why?"
Lena rolled her eyes and replied, "Why not you?"
"Because I'm… I'm nobody."
Kara's voice cracked at the last word, and tears formed in her eyes. This, sadly, had been the best night of her life. Egging her ex's car with Lena Luthor. Nothing in her life compared. But the sad part wasn't the context of what they'd done. It was the fact that Kara had to go home to an empty bed with no one to talk to, continuing to go through the motions of life, feeling virtually nothing. This night was going to come to an abrupt end. Or, maybe she'd wake from a dream. Yes, that was the most likely scenario. That she'd dreamed all of this. How else would she have been sitting beside Lena Fucking Luthor in a fucking Lamborghini?
"Kara?" Lena asked, tearing the girl from her thoughts.
"Huh?" the blonde asked, staring blankly.
"I said, 'You're not nobody.' You're charming and adorable and sweet and didn't deserve anything that girl put you through."
"Yeah, well… no one deserves to get cheated on."
"True, but you especially. I can tell you have a good heart."
"How?" Kara questioned softly, almost afraid to hear the answer.
Lena shrugged, keeping her eyes on the road as they drove out to the edge of town, with Kara hardly noticing where they were going or how long they'd been driving.
"I just know," Lena told her. "You haven't once asked for my autograph. You haven't even asked me about fame or fortune. You're impressed with my car – who wouldn't be? – but you're not conceited. You haven't asked anything of me. You haven't tried to use me. You haven't even made a move on me."
Still staring, Kara blurted, "Huh?"
"You're a fan, right?"
"Well… Yeah. Obviously. Who isn't?"
"You follow my Instagram."
"Yeah… So?"
"So, you must think I'm pretty."
Kara swallowed hard. She might have been a celebrity, but she was still a woman, and that statement was, without a doubt, a deep, dark, dangerous trap.
"You are pretty," the blonde asserted.
"Then why haven't you made a move on me?"
"Um… Because I just met you? And you don't even know me."
"There. See? Good heart," Lena announced with a smile. "You're not using me for anything. You're just here to have fun, and I'm enjoying your company."
"I… I'm enjoying yours too…" Kara had to confess.
Lena was so much more than she'd ever dreamed of. And she'd dreamed of her oh so many times. This girl was perfect. And not in the Hollywood sense of the word. In the pure, inside-and-out beauty sense of the word. She was more down to Earth than Kara ever could have imagined. She was… real.
"Good. So, let's go hide out 'til morning."
"Where?"
"I dunno. Where do people go when they don't want anyone to know them?"
Kara laughed at this, thinking of her sister's former rebellious days, where she'd used a fake ID to get into the skeevy, run-down bar on the outskirts of the city. No one knew her there, and Alex liked it that way, back then. At the time, Kara hadn't understood it, but now… sitting in the car beside the most famous young star in Hollywood… she was starting to understand. Kara didn't want to be some poor loser from nowhere. And that was all Lena wanted to be.
"You up for a bar?"
"Just… a bar? Like… not a club or anything? No cameras? No paparazzi?"
"None of that," Kara chuckled. "Just… beer and basic liquor. Probably nothing you'd want to drink, but—"
"I'm in!"
Raising an eyebrow, Kara questioned, "Really?"
"Totally!"
"Okay…"
"Put it in the Nav system."
"The what?"
"The GPS, Dorkus."
"Oh. Right."
Looking somewhat apprehensive about touching the control panel for the electronics, Kara hesitantly reached out and began to enter in the details for the no-one-knows-this-place bar.
