"What are your robot serial numbers?"
Feeling defeated, Emmet and Wyldstyle got closer.
Yep, we're definitely screwed Wyldstyle thought.
How could I have been so dumb to clearly see that the "so called Special" wasn't actually that special that night in the city?
Then, Emmet, also known as The Special, not knowing if it was an instinct or not, began thinking of his favorite song Everything Is Awesome.
He hadn't sang it since that night in the city when he suddenly found himself saving the world...
...so why not now?
He began to beatbox.
"Everything Is Awesome!" He answered them while not answering them.
But it seemed to work since the robots started to back down.
"No way." One of them said, "This is my jam."
"This is also my jam." Another one said, high fiving him.
They all began to sing:
Everything is awesome
Everything is cool when you're part of a team
No!
No!
No!
Wyldstyle promised herself to never ever sing that song again.
She tried her best to ignore the song as they continued singing it.
"Come on." Emmet whispered excitedly as if everything was right with the world.
"I don't want to sing the song. I'm not-"
The robots then gave her the 'life or death,' glare.
For dear life, Wyldstyle sang:
Everything is awesome!
Emmet smiled, and soon everyone began to cheer, and sing:
Everything is cool when you're part of a team
She nudged Emmet for them to follow the robots, who were dancing all the way.
Everything is awesooooooome
When we're living our dream
Once they got far from the robots and the torture was finally done, Wyldstyle went the opposite way, having to grab "The Special", whom apparently still wanted to go dancing with the robots.
"Quick, let's go."
Never again. Never again!
Apart from mistaking Emmet as The Special that night in the city, singing was still the worst mistake she had made.
"I thought you didn't like that song." Emmet said curiously from behind Wyldstyle who stood against the wall, making sure the coast was clear.
She was the best thing he saw that night in the city, not the Piece of Resistance, even her voice was was beautiful, so why was she trying to hide it?
And was that a flinch from her he saw?
"I don't." She answered. But Emmet could clearly hear the forced confidence in her voice.
What's troubling her so much?
He was thinking about asking her, but she already went inside a vent.
Oddly, Emmet knew she just wanted to ignore the conversation.
"Mm-hm." He said, playing along.
"I know you're putting this tough act," He said, climbing on the ladder next to her's. He just knew something was wrong. "but I don't think you're mean as you're trying to seem."
"I'm not mean, what are you talking about?" Wyldstyle asked as if he was delirious.
Once again, Emmet sensed she was trying to end the conversation.
"I'm just saying, you were all 'He's not The Special, Vitruvius. He can't possibly be The Special. 'This guy, are you kidding me?' ".
Wyldstyle, flinching, stoped climbing and once again made sure the coast was clear before advancing.
From where she was now, she could see the Kragle in the TAKO through some ventilation bars she was grabbing.
If only she was the one there...
Why? Why wasn't it me that night in the city?
She took a sad, deep breath, sighed, and turned back to Emmet.
"Look, Emmet, I... I wanted it to be me, okay? I wanted to be The Special."
Emmet did not expect that.
She was jealous of me?
Despite hearing that, part of him wanted to hear more.
That night in the city sure led to lots of crazy stuff, but not like this.
Wyldstyle forced a giggle.
"And I know that sounds super mature," she grabbed the bars again, "it's just when I heard about the prophecy I wanted to be the one." She recalled that night in the city... "I was right there in that construction site, right on top of it and then...it turned out to be you."
She simply shook her head and sighed, this time both sad and defeated.
Emmet couldn't stand seeing her upset.
She deserves to be The Special, why did it had to be me?
"That night in the city when you thought I was The Special..."
He couldn't get the rest out, but when Wyldstyle turned with a smile, it gave him courage to continue.
"And you thought I was talented and important..."
He smiled as he said the words, remembering his reaction when he thought for at least one minute that he truly was The Special, it was the greatest feeling anyone could have.
The smile didn't last long though.
"That was the first time someone really ever told me that."
There was nothing on Wyldstyle's eyes except for sympathy.
"And it made me want to do anything I could to be the guy you were talking about." He said, smiling as if it was a joke.
Of course I wouldn't be special, why did I even mind for a second thinking I actually was? He bitterly thought to himself.
Wyldstyle stood there for a couple of moments.
Then realized the greatest guy she ever talked to deserved a chance.
She took off her robot mask.
"Lucy."
Emmet woke from his deep thoughts. "What?"
Oh, there was a lot of things, not only her real name, that she wanted to tell him right now, but for now she decided it would be for the best to wait some other day, not when they were in the middle of saving the universe.
"That's was my real name. You asked earlier and...it's...Lucy."
Accidently meeting him that night in the city wasn't a mistake at all.
For a few moments, Emmet stood still, not believing what he just heard from her.
He then took off his own robot mask.
And smiled.
He didn't regret not following the instructions that night in the city.
"I really like that name." He gladly told her.
It wasn't long before they found their hands reaching for each other.
"Hey. What are you two losers talking about?"
The familiar voice of Batman interrupted their little moment.
And there here he was, litteraly on the roof.
Almost at once, Emmet and Lucy parted, acting like nothing at all happened.
"What? What?" Lucy stuttered, "Oh nothing."
But deep down, they both knew that night in the city changed their lifes for good.
THE END.
