Hong Kong Shatterdome, Hong Kong - December 20, 2024
"According to my calculations, the Triple Event is to erupt within three weeks. Then with the next a quadruple event and so forth. But the Breaches are increasing exponentially. Soon not even the Titans can stop them." Doctor Gottlieb reported and Stacker sighed while Doctor Serizawa was on a video call from his helicopter heading for the Shatterdome.
"Thank you Doctor Gottlieb." Serizawa replied and Newt scuffed.
"What is it Newt?" Stacker asked turning to the Kaiju scientist.
"Hermann can type in all the numbers he wants, but we won't know how to beat them without getting into them." Newt remarked and the Marshal rolled his eye knowing what the scientist was going to say again.
"You are not going to Drift with a Kaiju brain." Stacker ordered and Newt tossed his hands in the air.
"We might be able to know what the Kaiju are planning next and not guess as Hermann likes." Newt remarked and Gottlieb turned to the scientist.
"They are not guesses. They are accurate theories." Gottlieb corrected. "And the Kaiju are just wild animals finding the breaches by luck. They are part of the evolutionary cycle in their own dimensional. Nothing more and nothing less. I would have thought a scientist who studies them would know better."
"I happen to agree with Newt's theory just not the path to finding it." Serizawa remarked surprising the three men.
"Well I got a Jaeger Drift test to perform and make sure the world doesn't get destroyed." Stacker remarked before leaving with Gottlieb behind him. Newt stayed behind and looked at the equipment he had. With or without orders, Newt was going to Drift with a Kaiju brain.
"Gipsy Neural test commencing in twenty minutes." a woman said over the intercom as Stacker looked over the corner of the hall to see an armored Becket about to knock on Mako's door, but he didn't. He walked away and Stacker went to the door. He knocked and Mako opened the door with a smile, but it disappeared soon after. The two bowed and looked at each other.
"May I come in?" Stacker asked and Mako nodded. He entered and looked at the room before turning to Mako. "A long time ago, I made you a promise." he added as he unwrapped a small cloth revealing a red shoe. He handed it to Mako. "Get ready."
"Kaiju/human Drift Experiment take one." Newt said to a recording device as he hook two pipes to a machine. "The uh, brain segment is in the frontal lobe. Um, chances are the segment is far too damaged to Drift with." he added as he plugged a cord into what remains of the Kaiju brain. Newt put on a headset and typed in some code for the machine. He grabbed a switch that'll begin the experiment. "Unscientific aside, Hermann if you're listening to this, well either I'm alive and proven what I just done works, in which case, ha, ha. I win." Newt remarked with a smile, but it soon turned. "Or I'm dead and I like you to know it's all your fault. You drove me to this. In which case, ha. I still win. Sort of." he added before taking a breath. I'm going in, in three, two, one."
Newt clicked the switch and Drifted with the Kaiju. What he sees is amazing and terrifying at the same time. He saw a Kaiju being put together by robotic arms like a Jaeger. Then he sees a assembly line of hundreds of Kaijus with strange alien creatures overseeing the production.
Doctor Gottlieb entered the lab he shares with Newton. Gottlieb never liked the Kaiju Groupie, but as long as they stay away from each other, then he'll tolerate the man. As Gottlieb put his satchel on a table, he saw Newton on the ground shaking. The Doctor rushed to Newton to see he Drifted with the Kaiju. Gottlieb turned off the machine and got the headset off the scientist. Then he grabbed a phone to get the Marshal.
Gipsy Danger's trial run was an important event for the coming operation and Raleigh knew who his copilot should be, but Stacker refused so now he has to wait and see who is going to be in his mind. So Raleigh has to deal with it. He doesn't like it, but he has no choice. As the harness connected him to the machine, the AI spook. "Two pilots on board."
"I'm going to take this side. Left arm is a bit shot from a past mission." Raleigh remarked.
"Sure." a woman's voice said and Raleigh turned to see Mako in Jaeger armor. He smiled as she got attached to the Jaeger. "Are you going to say something?"
"No point. You're about to be in my head." he answered and she smiled. "You look good."
"Prepare neural handshake." Stacker ordered from the command center.
"Initiating neural handshake." an officer reported. Stacker watched as catwalks were removed from the old Jeager. The engine roared to life as the lights began to shine.
"Remember this isn't the simulations. Don't chase the R.A.B.I.T. Random Access Brain Impulse Triggers." Raleigh remarked on the comms. "Just let them flow. Don't latch on. Tune them out. Stay in the Drift. The Drift is silence."
"Neural interface Drift initiated." Gipsy AI reported and Stacker watch from the cameras as the two pilots went into a drift.
"Right hemisphere calibrated. Left hemisphere calibrated." the AI reported. "Ready to activate Jaeger."
Raleigh and Mako turned into a fighting stance and the machine copied their move precisely. Gipsy Danger was back in service. Stacker smiled knowing that a good team was going into the operation preped and ready.
"Marshal! Marshal!" Doctor Gottlieb yelled on a comm set. Stacker sighed as he turned his end on.
"Not now Mr Gottlieb." Stacker replied. "This moment is important to me."
"Newton made a Neural Bridge out of garbage and Drifted with the Kaiju!" Gottlieb yelled gaining everyone's attention.
"He did what?" Stacker yelled.
When Stacker entered the lab he saw Newt with a glass of water. The Marshal noticed that he was shaking, his nose bleeding, and his eyes were bloodshot. Gottlieb turned to the Marshal worried. "I found him on the floor and I didn't know what to do."
"Told you it would work." Newt remarked to the two men. Stacker kneeled next to the scientist.
"Yes you did. Now tell me what you see." Stacker asked wanting intel.
"It was only a fragment of the brain so it was like blink over and over and over and over again, like frames. It was like emotions." Newt remarked rapidly.
"Newton. Newton slow down, Look at me." Stacker ordered and Newt calmed down. "Now I want you to take your time and be specific."
"Okay, okay." Newt replied. "I don't think the Kaiju are following animalistic urge. They aren't hunting or gathering. I think they're attacking under orders."
"That's impossible." Gottlieb remarked and Newt stood up.
"Why don't you Drift with a Kaiju!" Newt yelled and Stacker stood up and pointed to Gottlieb.
"You shut up." he ordered coldly before turning to Newt. "You, keep talking."
"These beings. These masters. They're colonists. They overtake worlds and then they move to the next. They've been here before on a trial run. It was with the dinosaurs. But the atmosphere wasn't conducive and the Titans" Newt continued and Stacker made mental notes of all of it. "So they waited it out and waited it out. Now with Ozone depletion, carbon monoxide, and polluted waters, we practically terraformed it for them. Because now they're coming back and it's perfect. The first wave was just the hounds. Categories one to four, it was nothing. Their sole purpose was to aim at populated areas and take out the vermin, us! The second wave, the exterminators. They finish the job, then the new tenants will take possession." Newt added and Stacker took in what he heard.
"I need you to do it again." Stacker replied to the surprise of the two scientists.
"I can't do it again." Newt said. "Unless you have a fresh Kaiju brain lying around."
"Calibration complete." Gipsy AI reported and Raleigh felt something strange. He turned to Mako but saw Yancy.
"Hull breach! It went through the hull!" Raleigh yelled.
"Raleigh listen to me. You need to." Yancy was cut off and thrown out of the Conn-Pod. Raleigh realized that it was just a memory and he need to refocus.
"Pilot out of alignment." AI reported.
"Gipsy! Gipsy! You're out of alignment!" a tech yelled on the intercom.
"I'm okay. Just let me control it." Raleigh remarked tuning out the memory.
"Out of alignment. Code Red." the AI reported.
"You're stabilizing, but Mako is way out." the tech added. "She's chasing the R.A.B.I.T!"
"Mako, don't get stuck in the memory. Stay with me. Stay in now. Don't engage the memory. Mako. Mako. Listen to me. Mako?" Raleigh said before he was pulled into a memory not his own. A young Mako was running through the streets of a ruined city. She was crying as alarms echoed the only streets. She was carrying a red shoe in her hands. Fighter jets flew overhead firing missiles. A roar responded as a giant claw appeared from the dust cloud, destroying a fighter. A second claw rose to the sky destroying the last jet. Moments later, the Kaiju was revealed. Raleigh recognized it as Onibaba. The Kaiju looked down at the young Mako. Mako ran for her lift and Onibaba chased her smashing into a building. Mako turned into a alleyway and hid behind a dumpster.
"Mako this is a memory. None of this is real." Raleigh said as one of Onibaba's legs appeared in the alleyway. Mako looked around the dumpster and the Kaiju roared. As the Kaiju tried to catch Mako, it was forced away. Then everything stopped. He was back in the Conn-Pod. Eden Viper was in front of Gipsy Danger and tech crews were already on the Jaeger.
Sorry this took so long, had to take care of a few things and writer's block. Sorry again. Things are a bit intense at the moment. I hope this is a good story and I will continue it. Have a good day and enjoy.
