A/N: Thank you for giving this a read! I would love some commentary from the readers but giving this a read is enough for me.

This is an INSERT story, please be aware that I am purely doing this for fun and trying to reconnect with my writing. 3 Also, I will try to get chapters out as fast as I can, these aren't gonna be short they're gonna have some meat on them but I might post on certain days of the week, or whenever I feel like it!

I might change from 1st to 3rd person throughout the story, just to play around with certain things but I'll most likely inform before I do!

I don't own anything other than Serena and the events that changed along with her being at Grace Field. Everything else is owned by the rightful creators.

Enjoy!

"Hey, What do you think this is for...?"

A high pitched question asked out loud from pure curiosity.

"It's a gate.. it connects the inside and outside"

"Outside? We've never been outside.."

"That's because we haven't left here since being born"

Four tiny figures crowded around at the towering gated entrance which led them to what would be the unknown. They were surrounded by a variety of lush greenery and the air was still damp from early morning rain. The figures were young children clothed in the same monotone colored uniform but their diverse appearances and unique personalities gave them their own identity. However, they did all have something in common within their appearance; personally given numbered tattoos engraved into the side of their neck, from what they knew it's been present there since they were born.

"So, Is this what Mama is always talking about? 'Never go near the gate or fence in the back of the forest because it's dangerous.'" Emma, who had just spoken; owned a mess of orange curls with two loose, spiral strands peeking out playfully from the top of her head and the bottom. Her beaming emerald hues were always full of optimism and somehow swallowed anyone in, she had a fire that could light anything up.

"She says that.. but it's not true" The objecting Raventte was Ray, He was the oldest. Sometimes it was hard to tell what he was thinking since his relaxed expression always seemed indifferent and it didn't help that the left side of his face was covered by a chin-length fringe. His black hair spiked out in different directions from the back and he retained an aloof gaze that was almost a key signature for him.

"It's not?"

Norman tilted his head at Ray, flicking up a platinum brow at the other boy's claim while raising a hand to rub at his chin. He was the calm energy that balanced out the entire group. His appearance in itself was angelic with blonde hair that almost resembles a snow white and ocean-like orbs that always held a thoughtful kindness to them.

"Hey Ray! What would you do outside?"

"I don't know. You Emma?"

"I'd ride a giraffe!"

"Good luck." Ray scoffed, turning his back against the crisp bars, hands finding their way into the pockets of his pants.

"You haven't said anything for a bit.. What about you, Rena?" Norman's voice reached out to the smaller girl that stood next to Emma. She seemed to have been spacing out into the shadow abyss longer than she had expected because hearing her brother's voice almost made her jump.

"Huh?" She blinked a few times, she turned in their direction to greet the 3 pairs of eyes as the past conversation replayed in her head before she gave a quick response, a light growing in her eyes.

"Oh! I'd eat lots and lots of yummy food! Yep, I'd eat at one of those buffet places Mama tells me about!" Serena answered, stretching her little arms above her head to exaggerate the amount of food she was imagining. She was the youngest out of the four by a year and had been inseparable from her party since she arrived at the Grace Field Orphanage.

Serena had a golden ombré of long, wavy hair with wispy bangs that framed around her face. Her honeyed-whiskey doe eyes were comforting to peep into and her presence was as warm as a cup of tea. She inherited unnaturally lengthy eyelashes and a splatter of freckles were lightly planted along the bridge of her nose and high cheekbones.

"Tch. Are you always thinking with your stomach?" Ray whipped his head to Serena, contemplating if he should give her the energy of an eyeroll.

"You know Rena! She's always carrying around a snack~" Emma teased, wrapping an arm around the shoulders of her little sister, pulling her closer to her side.

"Listen, you never know when there's gonna be an empty stomach around!" Serena contended, insisting that was the case with a wave of her arm, leaning into Emma's touch.

"You're gonna get fat." Ray quipped, shifting his head to the other side.

"Hey!"

Norman watched the humorous conversation between the three of his siblings, a soft smile was present until the eerie feeling from the blackened tunnel settled back in; stealing his attention away and daring him to look into the dark. Small hands gripped at the cold bars, fingers could barely take complete hold of it as he peered back in, the sounds around him drowned out momentarily as he uttered out a thought.

"This gate… what do you think it's really keeping us protected from…?"

Neither of the girls heard their brother. Serena was currently in a tight headlock by Emma, who was attempting to snatch whatever snack or food she had scavenged from the kitchen. Serena was waving her arms around wildly, fist tightly enclosed around the packaged snackbar.

Ray remained silent, only quietly observing, it seemed to be he was the only one who heard Norman's wondered thought. He wouldn't make a motion to acknowledge it though. He pushed off the bars with a sigh, "We should probably get back before Mama looks for us."

Norman turned over his shoulder to look at the Ravenette, giving a nod of his head followed by a hum of agreement. Their eyes diverted to the wrestling girls, the whines from Serena and giggles gained by Emma brought up a laugh from the white-blonde and a twitch of a smile from Ray.

But many questions still stood.

What was outside? What was it they needed protection from?

Could whatever it be.. come inside?
