Magic within the City of Beasts
Here is the next chapter of my crossover story. I hope you all enjoy it and leave a review to tell me what you think of it.
Chapter one
A large blue truck slowly drove down a dark alley before it came to a stop near a large black door on the right wall of the alleyway. Once the truck came to a stop, the driver stepped out from the vehicle. He looked up and down the alley cautiously before he deemed it safe. He then looked into the backseat of the truck to the passengers that he brought along with him.
"The coast is clear," whispered the driver. "Let's get this over with as quickly as possible."
The passengers within the back seat nodded before they began to pile out of the truck. There were about five men and one female among them. The female was a young eighteen year old teenager with long midnight blue hair, which grew down to her shoulder blades and long bangs that covered the girl's right eye. Her skin was a dark tan and the left eye that was visible was a jade green. The eye had once sparkled with life and joy in the girl's younger days. But over the years, it had slowly grown dim as the hope and joy inside her soul disappeared. Now the only emotions her eye held was that of distrust, pain and hatred within its depths.
The girl wore a grey form fitting short sleeve shirt with a dark blue jean vest over top, baggy dark green military pants which were held up by a leather belt, and black running shoes. On the girl's hands were black fingerless gloves with metal knuckle guards. The girl's name was Kagami Kage, and long ago she had experienced things that no other child should ever encountered within their innocent life.
Kagami looked up and down the alleyway to double check that the coast was clear, before she followed the five men to the back of the truck.
"Alright, stay alert everyone," said the man, who was the leader of the group.
Kagami and the five men nodded their heads before they got to work in unloading the truck. The leader of the group then turned towards the black door. He raised up his right fist before knocking on the black door with his knuckle. The leader waited for a moment before the door opened to reveal a man in his late thirties.
The man wore a black jacket over a white shirt, blue jeans and black combat boots. The man had short dark brown hair and pale skin. The color of his eyes were hidden behind dark tinted sunglasses.
"You and your crew are two minutes late," said the man with a displeased expression upon his face.
"My crew and I had to take extra precautions when we drove down here," said the leader of the crew. "With all those TSAB officers roaming about, I didn't want to take any chances."
The man at the door only nodded at the leader of the crew before turning to head back inside the building.
"Bring all of the weapons you have in the truck through here," instructed the man as he disappear into the darkness beyond the door.
After he did, Kagami and the five men opened the back of the tuck's trailer. They began to pull out the crates and boxes that held the weapons inside them. One of the men paused for a moment to nervously glance around the dark alleyway they were in.
"This place gives me the creeps," voiced the smuggler fearfully. "I feel like we're being watched."
"Will you stop acting like a scaredy-cat!" hissed another man to his partner. "Listen, the sooner we get this done, the sooner we'll be out of this place."
Kagami rolled her eyes at the two men in exasperation, before leaping into the trailer of the truck to help haul out the rest of the boxes and crates that were stacked in the very back. She started to push one of the larger crates towards the opening of the truck, but paused when her eyes caught sight of a blue light glowing between two smaller crates. Kagami frowned in befuddlement, before she knelt down and stuck her hand between the two crates. Her fingers curled over something hard and smooth before she pulled her hand out. Kagami brought her hand up, and opened it to reveal a light blue crystal that was in the shape of a small toy marble shooter. The surface of the crystal was smooth and showed no cracks or chip marks on it. The light of the crystal gave off a soft warmth, which seemed to flow into Kagami's body. Kagami was surprised by the warmth for she had never felt anything like it before. Not even when she had been a little kid, back when she had still been living with her so called 'parents'.
'This is one strange looking marble,' thought Kagami with a raised eyebrow.
"Hey kid!" shouted one of the men from outside of the trailer. "Hurry up in there! We need to get this stuff inside before anyone sees us!"
Kagami turned to glare towards the entrance of the trailer: "Alright!"
Kagami quickly tucked the marble into the inside pocket of her vest, before she continued to push the large crate towards the open door of the trailer. Unloading became faster after that as Kagami, and the crew members, carried the crates and boxes through the black door. They continued unloading until all of the crates and boxes were out of the truck. Kagami jumped out from the back of the trailer, and let out a tired sigh before she walked to where all the other crew members were standing. The leader of the gang stood at the front of the group as he talked to the man, who once again stood in the entrance of the black door. The man counted out the money before he gave a wad of dollar bills to the leader of the gang.
"Here's your money," said the man. "Now get out of here before the TSAB officers find you here."
"You don't need to tell us twice." The leader of the gang grumbled as he pocketed the money and turned to look at his gang members. "Let's get going you lot."
Kagami and the crew members nodded, and began to follow their leader back to the truck. But they didn't get far for as they turned, white chains suddenly materialize from out of the walls and ground of the alley. The chains wrapped around the gang leader and his men, along with the man at the black door. Kagami quickly dodged around the chains that tried to grab her before summoning her magic, and jumped out of the alleyway. She landed on the edge of the building that made up the alley, and looked down to see that the men she had been working with were all captured by the chains.
'Damn it!' cursed Kagami in her head as she glared down at the chains. 'One of those TSAB officers must have tracked us here.'
Kagami watched as four mages appeared and surround the men that she had been working with. She let out a growl before she turned away from the scene, and made her escape by leaping from rooftop-to-rooftop. Kagami only got as far as to the sixth roof, before she sensed a strong mana signature coming straight towards her. Kagami quickly summoned magic into her legs before doing a giant leap upwards, just as a blue magic bullet was shot at the spot she had been standing a few seconds ago. Kagami flipped through the air before landing gracefully on the edge of the roof. She calmly stood there as she faced the person that had tried to shoot her.
Standing before Kagami was a woman in her early twenties. She had long brown hair that grew down to the middle of her back, and hazel green eyes that glared at Kagami with determination. She was wearing a black and red trimmed short sleeved shirt with a dark blue sleeveless jacket over top, blue jeans, black military boots and black fingerless gloves. In her hands she held two dark blue and white handguns with a dark blue jewel set into their sides.
Kagami stared at the woman in front of her with a calm yet cold expression as they sized each other up. After a moment, the woman spoke in a firm voice.
"You have no where to run. So kindly raise your arms up and turn yourself in."
Kagami scoffed after hearing what the woman had said: "You're delusional if you think I'm going to make it easy for you, enforcer lady."
"Don't make this any harder," said the woman as her voice hardened slightly. "Otherwise I might have to get rough with you."
At her words, Kagami couldn't help but smirk before she raised her arms up and began to crack her knuckles.
"You might get rough with me? Now that's the lamest joke that I've ever heard in my life. Yet if you're serious, then how about you back your words up with action, huh?"
"I'm giving you a final warning!" exclaimed the woman angrily as she continued to hold her gun at Kagami. "Surrender now, or else I'll have to use force!"
The smirk on Kagami's face soon fell and was replaced with a determined, but angry expression that darkened her features.
"You know, that line of yours is getting OLD!"
Suddenly, before the enforcer could react, Kagami shot forward in a blur and appeared right in front of the woman. Kagami then delivered a powerful punch to the enforcer's stomach. The woman let out a grunt as she was sent flying backwards, before she started rolling across the roof. She came to a stop when her back hit the guard railing of the roof. Kagami watched where she stood as the enforcer slowly climbed up onto her hands and knees. Kagami stood in a fighting stance as she got ready to attack the enforcer again. Kagami wasn't going to let anyone capture her again, and hand her over to some freaky scientists that wanted to experiment on her.
'I would rather die than become someone else's lab rat again!' thought Kagami fiercely.
The enforcer slowly got back onto her feet and shot a glare at Kagami for a moment. But that glare quickly changed to shock and fear before she shouted, but what came out of her mouth made Kagami frown in confusion.
"No don't!"
Kagami then suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot through her right shoulder. Kagami's eyes widened in shock for a moment before processing what had just happened to her. When she did, a scream of agony escaped her mouth as her left hand quickly shot up to clutch her wounded right shoulder. Kagami then turned to look behind her to see another enforcer standing before her.
The second enforcer this time was a man in his mid twenties. He had long light blue hair tied up into a pony tail, pale skin and dark green eyes. He wore a black zipped up jacket with silver chest armor, black pants, black steel toed boots and black fingerless gloves. In his hands he held a long staff, with a curved silver metal blade pointed straight at Kagami. A violet gem was set where the blade met the end of the staff, and it glowed an eerie black color.
The man stared down at Kagami with a cold calculating gaze, while Kagami glared at him in fury. The female enforcer then shouted at the man in anger as she stood up from the ground.
"Taylor Parker, stop! We're supposed to bring this girl in for questioning, not kill her!"
"I will kill her if I have too," spoke the man, Tylor, in a hard edge voice before he spoke directly to Kagami. "If you do not comply with our demands, then I will have to use force to bring you in."
Kagami continued to glare at the man for a moment as she stared into his eyes. She couldn't help but feel like she had seen those same cold green eyes somewhere before. Suddenly, Kagami was hit with a memory from her past. It was back when she had still been trapped in the lab. There had been an older man who had dark brown hair, and had glared down at her with the same cold green eyes like the man that stood before her. That was when the pieces of the puzzle begin to slowly fall into place. A deep rage started to rise up within Kagami as her magic began to swell up inside of her.
"You..." said Kagami in a dangerous voice.
Taylor looked at Kagami in confusion for a second, but it was quickly washed away when the next words came out of her mouth.
"You're related to that man, Parker. The one who had been among the scientists that had experimented on me."
At the mention of the man having the same last name as him, the enforcer quickly realized who this girl was that stood before him was. Rage began to build up within Taylor's soul as his staff started to spark with black lightning.
"You..." muttered Taylor in a dark voice. "You were the one who destroyed the laboratory and nearly killed..."
Kagami didn't need to hear the rest of the sentence, because she was quite aware on what the man was going to say next as she shouted out her next words to him.
"It would have been better if he and those other scientists had died! That way the world would be better off without those creeps ruining everyone's lives!"
Taylor's last nerve snapped as the black lighting around his staff began to zap wildly before he charged forward.
"How dare you say that!" shouted Taylor in an enraged voice.
He then swung his staff forward as he attempted to slash the blade across Kagami's chest. Kagami was able to block his attack by grabbing the staff by the handle with her left hand. As she did that, the black lighting that surrounded the staff began to spark around her, yet she showed no signs that she was in pain. The woman enforcer and Taylor stared in complete astonishment at what they were seeing. Kagami glared into Taylor's eyes as her visible eye showed a cold yet burning anger inside of its depths.
"You have no idea on what they have done to me," said Kagami in a dangerous voice. "And if those scientists have survived that blast, then I would rather die than go back to those bastards again!"
As she shouted those last words, Kagami drew her right fist back before throwing it forward to punch the enforcer in the stomach. Taylor let out a surprise grunt before he found himself flying backwards right off the roof, and crashing into a large building behind him. Kagami glared at where Taylor had crashed before turning to look behind her at the female enforcer again. The woman held up her guns as she pointed them at Kagami. The woman's face held a look of fear and disbelief.
"W-what are you?" questioned the woman in a tight voice.
Kagami glared at the woman and was about to open her mouth to reply, but quickly closed it when she sensed an attack being aimed at her. Kagami jumped away from the spot that she had been standing. When she did, a purple laser beam with black lightning was shot at where Kagami had been a second ago. She flipped through the air before landing lightly on the roof again. She then turned her gaze up to glare at Taylor, who had quickly recovered and was now flying a few feet within the air. His staff crackled with electricity as he got ready to fire another attack at her.
"You're tougher than you look," muttered Kagami as she clenched her right hand into a fist. "But don't think that you can beat me with only that electric baton of yours."
Kagami's whole body began to glow as a silver colored aura slowly surround her body. As it did, a strong wind began to pick up and slowly started to swirled around her like a tornado. The woman enforcer stepped back in surprise when she felt Kagami's magic aura. It was unlike any magic she had felt before as it radiated a wild and untamable power.
'This girl...she's no ordinary mage,' thought the woman with a frown. 'She's able to stand and fight despite the wound on her shoulder. Also this girl's power is off the chart. Just who exactly is she and why does she have this power?'
Then everything erupted into chaos. Kagami shot herself up into the air and headed straight towards Taylor, who flinched in surprise before he quickly summoned a barrier to protect himself. But that barrier was quickly dealt with when Kagami slammed her fist straight into it. The impact of her fist caused the barrier to shatter before it connected with his face. Taylor grunted out in pain as the force of Kagami's fist sent him flying downwards. He crashed into the roof with a large cloud of dust kicking up within the process. Kagami landed back down on the roof, but stood in a defensive stance as she waited for the dust to clear. She didn't have to wait for long as Taylor shot out of the dust with his raised staff high above his head. He tried to bring it down on Kagami's head, but she once again caught his staff in her left hand. Kagami glared into Taylor's face for a moment before her eyes widened in surprise and pain. She slowly looked down and saw a dagger made of dark purple light digging into her left side. She then turned her gaze up to stare into Taylor's eyes once again, and saw a smirk displayed upon his face.
"That was for what you almost did to my father you freak of nature," said Taylor in a low and dangerous voice. "And I'm going to make sure that you stay alive, so that he and the rest of the scientists will get a chance to finish what they had started."
Kagami glared at the man's face as her hand on the handle of the staff began to tighten. As it did, Taylor started to hear a cracking sound. He quickly turned turned his gaze to look at his staff in confusion. What he saw made his confusion change to terror as he saw cracks beginning to web out on the metal handle of his staff. Kagami then spoke in a soft voice that held venom in its tone.
"I said it before and I will say it again. I will not go back to those scientists who have made my life a living hell. I would rather die right here on the spot, while destroying your precious weapon in the process!"
"Oh no you won't!" shouted Taylor as he quickly raised his foot up and kicked Kagami in the stomach.
When he kicked out at Kagami, the blade that was stabbed into her side quickly vanished. As it did, blood began to spurt out and stain Kagami's shirt. The blood stain grew bigger when Taylor kicked his foot right into her wounded side. Kagami let out a grunt of pain as her left hand let go of the staff, before she placed her right hand over the new wound on her side. Kagami staggered backwards as she tried to get as far away from Taylor as possible. Though as she did, Kagami was unaware that she was backing up towards the edge of the roof. The female enforcer quickly noticed this and shouted out a warning to Kagami.
"Look out!"
But her warning came out too late as the back of Kagami's legs hit the edge of the roof. She then found herself falling over the edge of the roof with Taylor and the female enforcer staring in shock and horror. Their faces were the last thing Kagami saw before her field of vision changed to the clear blue sky above her as she fell off the roof of the building. The lost of blood had weakened Kagami, and she wasn't able to summon her magic to save herself from falling. Kagami stared up at the sky for a moment before closing her eyes. She let gravity pull her towards the ground where the impact with the concrete ground would kill her. The thought of dying didn't scare Kagami one bit. Instead she felt a numbing relief flow through her body as she welcomed the thought of finally being free from a life of pain.
'Finally...it'll be over soon,' thought Kagami as an empty smile appeared on her face. 'I can finally die and not have to go through any more pain.'
She was about to let unconsciousness take her when she sensed an incoming mana signature following her from above. Kagami's eyes snapped open, and she saw Taylor flying towards her with a determined expression upon his face. A determination which told her that Taylor wasn't going to let her die, and that he was going to bring her back to the scientists alive no matter what. Anger and disappointment began to rise up within Kagami's soul as she watched her pursuer closing in on her.
'Damn it!' thought Kagami as tears of frustration began to well up within her eyes. 'Why can't I be left alone by the ones that have caused me nothing but pain? Why can't I be free from those who are always hunting me down? All I want is to be free and live a life where I can shape my own future!'
As those thoughts passed through her head, the small crystal marble that was inside Kagami's vest pocket began to pulse. Kagami watched as Taylor closed in on her, and was almost within reach of grabbing her when something unexpected happened. A blue light suddenly surround Kagami's body before it pulsed out a powerful shockwave, which sent Taylor flying backwards. Taylor straightened himself out before he looked at where he had seen Kagami falling. He was surprised to see a large ball of light floating in front of him instead. The ball of light hovered within the air as it glowed in a soft blue aura, and seemed to bathe the city within its radiance. Taylor let out a growl before he shot forward, while raising his staff up over his head in the process. He was about to bring his staff down, when another shockwave pulsed out from the blue sphere, and he was once again sent flying backwards. The shockwave sent Taylor crashing into a nearby building behind him. He let out a groan before he quickly collected himself. He was about to fly towards the ball of light again, but discovered that his body wouldn't respond to his movements. Not even his fingers would move a he tried to twitch them.
"W-what's going on?" exclaimed Taylor angrily. "I can't move my body!"
As he tried to force his body to move, the ball of light continued to hover where it was. Up on the roof, the female enforcer was looking over the edge of the building. She stared down at the strange phenomenon in mixture of confusion and amazement.
"Where did that thing come from?" voiced the woman quietly to herself.
Inside the sphere of light, Kagami floated unconscious within a void of silver blue nothingness. But that slowly changed when white stars slowly began to appear all around her. They twinkled and floated around Kagami's unmoving form with some of them hovering closer to examine her for a moment. They then slowly move away from her when a bright blue light began to softly glow from the inside Kagami's vest pocket. The light slowly slipped out from Kagami's vest before it revealed itself to be the crystal marble. It floated up into the air until it came to hover three feet above Kagami's chest. The marble continued to float above Kagami, while the light around it began to grow stronger. After a moment, a silver aura appeared around Kagami's whole body. The silver aura seemed to glow along with the marble's blue light, before it dimmed and disappeared. As it vanished, the stab wound on Kagami's side slowly began to heal. The wound became nothing but a faded scar, along with the wound on her shoulder. The light around the marble dimmed and it remained floating over Kagami's body. The white stars slowly came closer to hover around the girl's unconscious form again. As they did, Kagami began to regain consciousness. She slowly opened her visible eye halfway to see what was happening. At first her vision was blurry, but Kagami soon saw the lights of the white stars and marble floating around her. Kagami stared up at them in wonder as that same feeling of warmth spread throughout her body once again. Unconsciously, she began to smile as she gazed up at the stars that shone brightly all around her.
"Beautiful..." voiced Kagami in a soft voice. "If this is heaven, then I don't want to wake up."
The stars seemed to glow brighter at Kagami's comment before drawing closer to her. Kagami watched as the stars drifted closer to her, while the blue marble started to glow brighter. Kagami watched as the stars were absorbed into the crystal marble's form. Then, as soon as the last star was absorbed, the marble flashed a blinding light. The light then engulfed Kagami as she fell into unconsciousness again.
Outside, the ball of light slowly began to shrink before it became the size of marble. It then let out a flash of light, which blinded the woman enforcer and Taylor. The two enforcers quickly covered or closed their eyes at the sudden blinding light. Then after a moment, they uncovered their eyes to see if the ball of light was still there, but they only saw open space.
"W-what the...?" started Taylor before he realized that he was able to move his limbs again.
The woman enforcer stared at the open space in befuddlement. She then lifting her hand up to her right ear, where an almost invisible Bluetooth sat in it. The woman pressed the button before she began to speak to the person on the other line.
"This is agent Haruko Kitagaki. We've lost sight of our target."
She became silent as she listened to the person on the other end of the line before speaking again.
"Alright. We'll report back to base as soon as I have a word with my...partner."
The woman, now known as Haruko, turned off her communicator. She turned to glare at Taylor, who flew up and landed beside her a second later.
"What did you think you were doing?" questioned Haruko in a dangerous voice.
Taylor glared back at her before he answered her question: "I was only doing what I thought was..."
"You went too far when it came to apprehending her! We were given strict orders to only capture her without harming her!" shouted Haruko furiously, which caused Taylor to flinch back from her in surprise. "She may have been an escapee from the laboratory that your father once worked at, but despite her being an artificial copy, she's still a human girl!"
Taylor growled in disagreement before turning his gaze away from Haruko in anger. Haruko continued to glare at her partner for a moment before huffing in frustration.
"Come on. Let's head back to HQ so we can figure out where she had disappeared to." Haruko said in a stiff voice before she turned and began to walk away.
Taylor stood where he was for a moment before letting out another growl. He then turned and began to follow after Haruko. As he trailed behind his partner, Taylor couldn't help but think about where that girl had disappeared to. The thought of her escaping once again made Taylor furious. His chance at capturing her for his father had been tore from his grasp.
'When we find that freak. I will make sure that she won't escape from me again.' Taylor thought quietly to himself.
Unfortunately, the two enforcers and the rest of the TSAB would not be able to find Kagami on Midchilda. For they were unaware that Kagami had been transported to another world. A world that was a Non-administrated by the TSAB, and was the most unlikely place for anyone to hide. The world that Kagami had been transported to was none other than Earth.
