Bonenzo (I'm so sorry for killing Enzo guys! I needed to do a new pairing so he had to go)
So if this seems familiar that's because it is. It's my own spin on a story I read as a child from one of those scary stories to tell in the dark books. (I don't know why I did that to myself back then ) it's called maybe you remember about a girl and her mother traveling through Paris. They check into a hotel and the mother falls ill so the doctor sends her daughter on a wild goose chase for medication; when she finally returns her mother and her room is gone, and there appears to be no trace of their stay. They tell her to rest and then maybe she'll remember…
So it's the same premise but a Vampire Diaries version, with a few tweaks and changes, I hope you find this version interesting!
"I just want a bubble bath," Bonnie said with a sigh as she leaned against the passenger window.
"Would you settle for a dip in the river now and a sensual, aromatic, and bubbly soak in the spa with me later on tonight?"
She looked over at Enzo and rolled her eyes. "I'm going to get all wet,"
"Yes, that's the idea. That's exactly how I want you," he replied with a crooked smile.
" Enzo! " She swatted his arm.
"Relax, beautiful, you'll get your luxury bubble bath. We're in Mystic Falls now, we'll check in at the boardinghouse, it's just around the bend,"
"Why can't we just go to a hotel?"
"For the culture love, this trip is partly for the culture," Enzo reminded her.
"Next time, we're flying," she mumbled as they pulled into a long, roundabout driveway. "Ooh, there's valet parking,"
A young man with short blond curls and light blue eyes came to the car and greeted the couple. "Welcome to the Salvatore Boardinghouse. Would you like a spot in the shade?" He asked as Enzo stepped from the vehicle.
"I would like that very much, thank you Matt," he replied, reading his name tag.
"You're welcome sir, I'll have someone bring your bags up shortly,"
"That won't be necessary mate, we're only planning a short stay since we have to leave first thing in the morning," Matt handed Enzo a ticket and waited until Bonnie left her passenger seat before he got inside.
"This place is nice," Bonnie said walking up to the front door with Enzo.
Inside there was no reception desk, but a main lounging area. A man who was quite pale in tone, sporting obsidian locks and a towering stature walked by, noticing the couple.
"You must be looking for the reception desk," he said.
Bonnie lifted her shoulders in a shrug. "That would probably help us get a room for the night,"
He laughed. "I'm Damon, I actually own this place. You just need the one room for the night?"
"Right, we're just passing through. I'm Enzo and this is my lovely wife Bonnie," Enzo said, extending a hand. Instead, Damon gave him a fist bump and a head nod towards Bonnie.
"Right this way, you fine couple,"
Bonnie exchanged perplexed glances with her husband at the owner's eccentricity, still, they followed him to the library. The interior was set up like a public library, with a small lobby area adjacent to two separate sections on either side of the front desk. There were no employees or guests present.
"We have the office in the library because this is the epicenter of all our records," he waved a presentational hand to the section on the right, then the left. "This side is open to our guests as a fully functional library, this side is for employees only. If you plan on going sightseeing, you do need to leave your room key here and check-in and out. But don't worry, someone is always at the reception desk," he looked behind him and frowned, finally noting that no one was behind him. "Except for right now. Hmm. But if you should need anything, anything at all, just tap this bell right here," his hand thumped on the desk bell, ringing it a few times. "And, wah-lah, Lexi will appear out of thin air,"
A woman with ridiculously long silky blond hair came from the section on the left. She gave a tight smile to Damon. "Sorry, that was about April Young. She's still-"
"That reminds me, I have a call to make. Lexi, sweetheart would you be a dear and find these lovely people a room? One with a view as beautiful as them," he looked at Enzo and then frowned. "Whoa, you're sweating man. Make sure the central ac isn't acting up, Lex,"
The owner quickly hurried away. Bonnie chuckled and glanced at Enzo, noticing that he was indeed sweating.
"You okay, babe?" She asked, cupping his cheek.
"I'm fine, in need of water and a hot meal, most likely," he replied.
"Let me get you all checked in and I can have room service delivered to your room if you like," Lexi offered.
"How's the chef?"
"Stefan is the best ," she assured.

After a country-fried steak breakfast meal that had them each licking their fingers, and encouraging a pair of twins in the dining hall to order the same thing, Bonnie led Enzo upstairs after a trip to the restroom resulted in his food flowing through his system in reverse. They passed Stefan, the chef in the upstairs corridors.
"Whoa, I hope that's not what my cooking's done," he said as he leaned Enzo's arm over his shoulder.
"No, he wasn't feeling well when we got here. It came up but mine stayed down," Bonnie explained.
He helped him into their room, which was the newlywed suite 202, complete with red walls, maroon drapes, and there was the scent of Japanese cherry blossom in the air. Silky red bedclothes dressed the bed that was a promised tempur pedic mattress.
"My brother actually can have his buddy check him out. He comes here a lot, sort of an in-house physician, since we do get a lot of travelers through here," Stefan offered as he helped Bonnie lie Enzo down. He groaned in either discomfort or pain, Bonnie couldn't tell which.
"Yes, please, how quickly can you get him in here?" She asked. She was beginning to worry, Enzo was flushed and sweaty and it appeared his strength was failing him.
"I'll call Damon right now,"
"Wait, Damon's your brother?"
Stefan paused at the door and nodded his head quickly. "Yeah," he hurried out the door. That almost made no sense to Bonnie, they looked nothing alike, the only genetics the duo seemed to share was being handsome.
She laid in the bed next to Enzo and squeezed him. "How are you feeling, babe?"
"I've never been this exhausted in my life. But I've got a beautiful woman at my side, making it all worth it,"
She giggled. His sense of humor had never failed him. "Get some rest, the doctor is going to be in soon,"
After twenty minutes, the doctor knocked at the door and asked Bonnie to kindly step out so he could examine the patient. Not even five to ten minutes had passed before Dr. Parker emerged from the room.
"Mrs. St John, your husband will be fine, he's fighting some sort of infection is all. But it's a fever he's going to have to sweat out-"
That incited panic in Bonnie's heart. "No, he can't do that, he's got epilepsy!"
"Which- let me finish, please. Which I don't recommend with his history of seizures. Now, I myself have caught a similar infection and so have my siblings growing up. There's a concoction that'll speed up the healing, my mother used to make with an herb that's in rare supply around here. Luckily, we still grow it at my family's ranch. I can send you to go retrieve it, you'll just need a prescription from me to give to my sister. She'll know what it means,"
Just then Damon strolled by.
"How are you, sweetheart? How's the hubby?"
"Not so good," Bonnie sniffed.
"I'm sorry," Dr. Parker said. "But let me know what you want to do,"
"You should listen to Kai's advice, he's the best," Damon smirked at his buddy and clapped his hand on his shoulder.
"Can I see you for a sec? You know that April Young skipped town?" The doctor asked as he walked off with Damon. Bonnie stood in the doorway of her suite, watching helplessly as Enzo lay in the bed, looking miserable as ever. A sigh poured from her chest.
~~~
It was nearly five hours since she'd left the boardinghouse and she couldn't get a hold of Enzo on his cell as it went straight to voicemail, the trip to get to the funeral home which had no telephone because doubling as a funeral parlor required the utmost quiet took nearly two hours, and to top it off, she'd had to wait and sit through a funeral procession that had a delayed start. Furthermore, the reception desk answered none of her calls, breaking her confidence in Damon's word.
She was deeply regretting Damon's gesture as the owner to have his hotel chauffeur drive her, as a way to conserve her gas and energy since she and Enzo still had a long trip to their family. Tyler took twice as long as she would have taken to get there and the boy acted as if there were no shortcuts in the town he claimed to know so well as he transported her through various traffic jams with ongoing roadwork.
What on earth was going on?
"It's ready," Josette finally said.
"This stuff better be worth it," Bonnie grumbled as she sat up while the doctor's sister approached her.
She looked out of the window. "You haven't called the driver?"
Exasperation was an understatement to how Bonnie was feeling with the ridiculous turn of events, so her patience had all but thinned. "I've been calling! No one answers! How the heck am I supposed to call the driver if no one answers the desk that's never even supposed to be abandoned?!"
Josette frowned and retreated slowly. "You don't have to be rude, I'm only trying to help you,"
Bonnie wiped her hand down her face. She just wanted to get back to Enzo and know that her husband was okay.
"Try calling them again," Josette suggested before she disappeared into her office.
She did try one more time and was surprised to find that Lexi finally answered.
"Lexi! I'm so glad I got a hold of you. I need Damon to send out another car, and please have the driver take a quicker route. Also, can you put me through to Enzo?"
"Yes, can you hold please?"
Before an argument could be uttered, Bonnie was placed on hold.
For forty-five minutes . Fighting back tears and feeling as if something was seriously wrong, Bonnie flopped down on the porch steps of the Parker home.
Coming around the bend was a tall blond woman, dressed in all black. She was likely a funeral patron. "What's wrong love, don't tell me someone died on you at a funeral," she had a delightful modern British accent.
"Everything is going wrong today and I just want to get back to my husband so he can have this medicine drink and be ok," she replied through wet eyes. She explained her whole odyssey of a trip to get back to Enzo.
"I'm Rebekah. I've just buried my little brother, but it seems like your trying day is just dragging on. Would you like a ride back to your husband?"
"I'm sorry for your loss. If you could please give me a ride, I'd appreciate it so much. The boardinghouse is about an hour away though, I don't know if that's too far for you but I can pay you for the trouble-"
"There's no need," Rebekah said, nodding her head towards the parking area. Bonnie stood up and looked at her cellphone. The call was still on hold. She sighed and disconnected as she followed the British blond. "Which boardinghouse do you speak of? The only one I know in town is the Salvatore's,"
"That's the one,"
"That's not an hour away, it's about twenty-five minutes east of here. I can get you there in twenty,"
The fact that Rebekah had a convertible car and justified that as cause to speed through the streets made Bonnie rethink her decision to accept the ride, only she managed to get them there safely and in one piece and in eighteen minutes' time. Gratitude filled her being and reigned over fear with that feat.
She thanked her and rushed inside, bumping into Damon in the living room. "Whoa, little lady. Where are you off to in such a rush?"
"Why has the phone been abandoned all day?!"
He narrowed his eyes. "Do you need a room? The office is this way," he gestured to his right and followed her as she scoffed and marched towards the library. He began his spiel about how the epicenter of their records was the library which held the reception desk. Only this time, Bonnie noticed the library section was to the left, and the employee section was to the right. Lexi was standing at the reception desk, vouching for his claim that the desk is never empty.
"I need the key to my room, please, it's room 202,"
Lexi's smile faded. "Uh, someone just checked into that one,"
"Me and my husband did, this morning, what are you talking about?"
"No, that room was just checked into by the Saltzman's, Isobel and Alaric Saltzman,"
The room suddenly felt like it was coming down on her head. "No, Enzo and Bonnie St John, it's our room, and I want to see it! I want to see it now! That's our room!"
"I check everyone in, Miss, I don't have that on record,"
Damon went behind the counter and double-checked Lexi's screen and confirmed there was no record of Bonnie and Enzo. He came back around the counter as Bonnie ran her fingers through her hair and began pacing and murmuring to herself. Damon halted her by placing both hands on her shoulders. "Miss, I need you to calm down. That room is rented already, for the weekend, I just showed the couple to it and we haven't checked in you or an Enzo,"
"No, you gave that room to me and Enzo!"
"I've never even seen you before just now. Who is Enzo?"
"My husband ! You met us both earlier, don't you remember?!"
"Do I need to call security?" Lexi asked.
"No, Lexi, it's fine, I'm going to show this young lady the newlywed suite so she can see for herself, she's probably traveling and not used to this heat,"
But it wasn't the heat! Bonnie had checked into this boardinghouse with Enzon that morning! They'd had a room with red walls, furniture, and bedclothes because it was supposed to be the most romantic one in the whole house.
Damon knocked on the door to room 202, apologized to the occupants for the inconvenience, and explained that he had a guest who had likely mistaken this suite for her own. Inside the room was a lavender scheme, it smelled of lavender and vanilla instead of the Japanese cherry blossom. And of course, no Enzo.
Her heart hurt, because this was her room, only Enzo was gone and their room had been replaced. "Where's Enzo?" she asked as she tearily turned to Damon. The couple regarded her with concerned eyes before Damon thanked them and closed the door.
"Ma'am, I am truly very sorry but no one here seems to remember you, are you sure you're in the right place?"
Uncertainty racked her brain. Rebekah had taken a different route to get her here but she said this was supposed to be the only boardinghouse in town. She and Enzo had met the eccentric Damon that morning, except now, he was as normal as they came.
He led her back to the sitting area in the living room and paged the in-house physician. "Where's my husband?!" she demanded when he came into view with a young boy dressed in white scrubs.
Ignoring her, he addressed Damon. "Has the patient consumed any narcotics lately?"
"Not that I can tell,"
"I'm not on drugs you idiot, I went to go get the medicine you sent me for!" she tossed it to the floor in his direction. "It took me out all day and now everything's wrong and messed up and I just want my husband!"
Dr. Parker squinted his eyes addressing Damon again. "And you said no noticeable drug use?"
"I want my husband! Why did you send me for the medicine, what did you do with Enzo?!" Bonnie began to shout and rake her fingers through her hair.
"Jeremy, I'm gonna need to sedate her, would you-"
"NO!" she screamed as the young orderly held her ina bear grip locked her in a hold and Damon held her legs as the doctor lifted her blouse and plunged a needle on a syringe into her left hip.
~~~
When she woke, uncertain of how much later it was, she was laying in a bed she didn't recognize, only she recognized Dr. Parker. He was standing at the foot of the bed talking with a woman dressed in a police uniform.
"I'm sorry Miss Bennett, I had to sedate you when you became delirious. You came into the boardinghouse demanding a room that was already occupied and claimed you'd checked in this morning. Except no one recognized you and there's been no sighting of the husband you claimed you came with. Sheriff Forbes here has interviewed all of our staff and even our guests and no one can vouch for your story," he grabbed her hand gently. "There are no drugs in your system but it seems like you've had a tough day, we wanted to let you get some rest, I know traveling can be taxing on the body and psyche. We were hoping maybe you'd remember where you're supposed to be after you were able to get some rest?"
Bonnie sat up, feeling as if she was losing her mind. She couldn't be mistaken, but it had been such a long day. But where was Enzo?
The second part details what really happened to Bonnie's husband.
Please no rude comments, I just randomly came up with this fairly quickly so there's prob some refining that is needed. But this is a general audience rating and I'm so excited about that because that means my little ones can read it! YAY me lol
