Sasuke fell to the ground. Naruto watched his face in shock. Why did things have to go this way? Why did he have to take an attack that was meant for him? Naruto stared at Sasuke's body as it fell into his hands.
As Sasuke fell Naruto's eyes started to sting.
He was angry, sad, and very confused about what Sasuke had done. Neither of them were particularly close as a matter of fact the both could barely stand each other and yet he had taken a hit that was for him.
Naruto's mind was filled with an insurmountable amount of rage, even as the masked fake started to go on about the sacrifice that Sasuke made. Suddenly everything was silent as the world slowed.
Everything was so clear. He could see better than he had ever seen. The small amount of blue around the mirrors and Sasuke. The larger concentration of it in a single mirror. He continued to watch for what seemed to be hours but in reality had only spanned what was a second before he moved. Haku's eyes widened as the boy charged at the mirror he was inside.
It shouldn't have been possible. There were projections of himself in every mirror and the blond had picked him out. He prepared another senior assault and jumped. However as he locked eyes with the blond he froze for a fraction of a second as what should have been blue eyes locked with his.
He retreated into a mirror and was shocked. Where blue eyes should have been purple eyes with eccentric circling rings stood. It spooked Haku and as far as he could tell the blond hadn't noticed a change.
However Haku couldn't have been any more wrong. The blond had caught the change in his eyes in the mirror however his mind was focused on getting even with the hunter ninja. As he followed the hunter ninja into his new mirror he felt his Chakra flow before a rod seemed to appear below his hand.
A Chakra rod somewhere in his mind supplied as he gripped it and it detached. He held it in his hand for a minute as Haku jumped from his mirror throwing a handful of senbon.
Naruto seemed to see everything thrown in slow motion as he knocked away each season with the Chakra rod. It was easy now. His eyes supplied him with the movements to block it.
Naruto seemed to casually turn towards Haku once again before he threw the rod. Haku had a bad feeling and jumped towards a different mirror as the rod pierced straight through the mirror he previously occupied.
"You know you had me defeated not even a second ago and now everything is so clear. You and Zabuza must die in order for Tazuna to achieve his dream." The way Naruto casually said this scared Haku. The boy was boisterous and even light hearted it had seemed. Now he was cold even the look in those eyes was cold.
Suddenly Naruto raised his arm as another name came to his mind. "Shinra Tensei" the words came clear and suddenly Haku's world was enveloped in pain as he was forcefully ejected from the now shattered dome of mirrors.
As Haku stood back to his feet slowly he was pulled towards the blond. In his hand was a single Chakra rod that he had used to pierce his mirror. Haku seemed to watch in slow motion as the rod drew near before piercing his left lung just slightly away from his heart.
Haku coughed blood as his mask slowly fell from his face. Recognition shone in the blond's eyes as he recalled the boy from the woods. Slowly Haku fell backwards as Naruto let go of the rod in shock.
He couldn't believe what he saw but his eyes knew nothing was wrong and that this was indeed Haku. His eyes stung with tears as he tried to find words to speak but nothing came to mind.
He was torn. On one hand he had avenged Sasuke and protected Tazuna, on the other he had killed someone that he had met. As the mist slowly clears the sound of chirping birds was heard. Soon after the sound disappeared and the mist finished clearing.
As he turned he saw Kakashi with Zabuza pierced through the chest on his arm. And just past him was a large gathering of thugs. At the forefront stood Gato himself.
Naruto slowly approached Kakashi as he laid Zabuza down. Sakura asked him about Sasuke but he just shook his head. Kakashi glanced at Naruto and saw the look in his eyes and noticed the change however they had more pressing matters than questioning the kid.
Naruto stared at the bandits, his eyes looking for any weakness to exploit; his hands already had a Chakra rod in each. As he stared his right hand moved on its own, launching the Chakra rod in it directly at Gato. If he had any training he may have been able to dodge it but he didn't have any.
The rod entered Gato's throat and his hands instinctively went to it. As he started to fall backwards Naruto glanced and saw Zabuza's sword. He didn't know why but he felt a pull towards it. He slowly leant down and gripped the handle.
He lifted the sword and surprisingly it didn't seem to weigh as much as he expected a sword of its size to weigh. He raised it to rest across his shoulders. Kakashi was surprised as when he clashed with Zabuza the sword seemed to weigh quite a bit but his genin was lifting it with ease.
Naruto glanced back at the thugs and despite his short stature he cut quite an intimidating sight. However unknown to him and Kakashi the thugs saw a different sight. As they looked at the two, two phantom rippled eyes stared back at them from just behind Naruto.
Naruto started a slow walk towards the thugs. Kakashi went to put his hand on Naruto's shoulder but a glance from Naruto froze him in his tracks. He saw the twin eyes staring at him and a mirrored set much larger looming behind Naruto.
Naruto turned to face the thugs once more and continued his slow walk. The thugs were still frozen in place as those ringed eyes came closer. Before suddenly they were hit with an intense killing intent. Naruto's anger had reached a peak. These men followed a murderer and thief and he couldn't stand it.
So he focused it all on them and as he came within thirty feet he launched himself at them. The first man barely had time to take a step backwards before the massive sword sliced through his left shoulder. Going clean through and out of his right hip.
Sure the bandits had numbers but the intense amount of killing intent coupled with Naruto's newfound vision made it seem like shooting fish in a barrel. Which it may as well have been.
As he continued to swing the sword. Taking limbs or lives the thugs felt their courage disappear. Their number advantage was dropping with every swing the blonde genin made. The thought that a child was doing this was even worse. As a wave of desperation hit the thugs directly surrounding the boy prepared to all assault him at once.
Naruto noticed the thugs in front of him tighten their grips he spoke. "Shinra Tensei" with such a soft spoken tone and full of anger the world around him rippled before a large dome exploded around him clear and see through it carried the force of more than an exploding tag.
The bridge cratered and the bandits around him were flung away as not but ragdolls. As the force of the attack died down, so too did any remaining morale of the thugs as the blonde haired boy covered in blood finally looked up. The purple eyes blank and seemingly lifeless.
The thugs didn't even realize the blonde was catatonic and had started fleeing but Kakashi caught what had happened after the final jutsu and was next to Naruto as quickly as possible. The villagers of Wave appeared on sight only to see the blonde haired genin fall directly into Kakashi's arms.
They saw the dead Gato along with about twenty thugs dead but maimed in some way. However as they approached Kakashi heard his other student being praised as Sasuke had apparently survived.
Naruto's mindscape
The blonde Genin sat up quickly as he quickly checked his surroundings. He was confused as to why he was in a sewer and couldn't even remember being near one. As he stood and walked down the corridor it opened up widely with a large cage in front of him. A paper tag stood in the direct middle of the gate with the Kanji for seal.
As he approached a single red eye opened before a loud roar. This sent Naruto tumbling through the mindscape. As he flew backwards down the hallway he had walked through the visions of his kills co Stanly bombarded him.
Two days later Tazuna's house
Purple ringed eyes snapped open as Naruto shot up in the bed he was in. Quickly glancing around he took stock of his surroundings just as the door opened and Kakashi stepped in. Kakashi silently watched the blonde before taking measured steps towards him.
Before Kakashi even crossed the halfway point of the room the blonde had launched himself across the room and wrapped Kakashi in a large hug. Kakashi stood there dumbfounded for a minute before he slowly let a hand rest on the kid's head.
As Naruto cried, Kakashi thought of what happened on the bridge with Kubikiribocho after the blonde had passed out. When he picked up the blade it seemed to weigh too much for the young blonde to hold. Which meant that the stories of the blades picking their new wielder had to have been true if the young blonde could lift it with such ease.
Naruto after a couple of minutes spoke "does this make me a monster?" Kakashi sighed "Not at all" before Naruto could continue Kakshi continued speaking "You did what you had to and protected your teammates and the people of Wave." Naruto nodded into the man's stomach. It didn't make him feel any better but with time he would get over it.
Kakashi sighed once again. He would have to tell the blonde about the sword eventually but for now he seemed to need this. The sight Sasuke walked into wasn't something he could say he expected but at the same time it couldn't not be expected. He stared at his blonde teammate in something akin to respect.
He knew what the blonde had done probably had ruined whatever innocence he had left. Sasuke wasn't nearly as ignorant or unvigilant of his teammates as he seemed. What he saw after waking up on the bridge surprised him greatly. Never before would he have guessed his blonde dobe of a teammate would do something so grisly.
It was expected he'd have to kill eventually but the kills Sasuke had seen, the dobes were gruesome at the least and somewhat disturbing. It was obvious the boy had never killed before as most of the cuts looked like he was simply swinging a bat.
Naruto and Kakashi stood for another thirty minutes before the blonde backed off enough to notice Sasuke standing there in the doorway somewhat awkwardly. When Sasuke saw Naruto looking at him he simply nodded towards the blonde before excusing himself.
Kakashi knelt down in front of his blonde student both his hands gripping his shoulders. "Naruto" Kakashi spoke as calmly as possible "we need to talk about your eyes and Kubikiribocho." It was a statement and the blonde just simply nodded along not having enough energy to truly talk.
That honestly surprised Kakashi as the blonde was very energetic and usually eager to talk. "Well first and foremost you have unlocked a kekkei genkai" Kakashi started "I believe that it is the rinnegan however we will have to speak with Hokage-Sama about that. Second, it seems that Kubikiribocho has chosen you as it's wielder." Naruto nodded slowly and that seemed to make sense as the blade didn't seem to weigh too much to him even though Kakashi seemed to struggle behind the weight of the blade.
As Naruto backed up from Kakashi he stared at the large form of Kubikiribocho sitting in the corner of the room. As Naruto thought deeply it seemed that the blade had chosen him as it knew what he was about to do with it. He couldn't really explain the thought behind it as when he looked at the blade on the bridge it seemed as though it was calling out to him.
He slowly approached the blade before gripping the handle and lifting it up with a fair amount of ease. He set the blade back down before going over to the holster that Zabuza used and adjusting it to himself. He turned back towards Kakashi, finally speaking "I'm going to need a lot of training Kakashi-sensei."
Kakashi after thinking for a bit spoke "that can wait till we reach the village. Until then rest you have been through a lot."
