The next morning Andy and Prue woke up. They showered and got dressed for the day. Andy was supposed to work the night shift so he dressed casually in jeans and a brown Henley which he tucked into his jeans. The previous day had been crazy. Prue had let out a warlock who wanted to steal hers and her sister's powers and they summoned Melinda Warren from the past. Andy and Prue ran into Piper in the hallway. "Where's Melinda" Prue asked. "Phoebe's helping her get dressed into something from this century so she can blend in" Piper said. Andy nodded. "That's a good idea. We already have a 17th century warlock walking around out there killing people, the last thing we need is people knowing Melinda is from the same century as him" he said. "let's go see if Phoebe needs any help" Prue said as the three of them walked to Phoebe's room. "So how did it take you to make the dress" they heard Melinda ask. "Make it? No I bought it" they heard Phoebe say. "Oh you must be rich" Melinda said.
"No she's got credit cards" Prue said as her Andy and Piper entered the room. "Oh wow Melinda you look great" Piper said. "Oh thank you but how do you keep your legs warm" Melinda asked. "We drink coffee" Andy said. Melinda nodded. "Oh sorry I let myself in and it didn't occur to me…" Leo started to say but was interrupted by Piper. "Leo it's OK. This is…" she said trying to think of what to tell Leo who Melinda was. "Our cousin Melinda" Phoebe finished for Piper. Melinda smiled at Leo. "It's nice to meet you" Leo said. "Leo's fixing our plumbing" Piper said. "What's that" Melinda asked confused. They all looked at each other concerned. Andy started to laugh. "Their cousin Melinda is such a jokester" he said. Leo nodded at him. "We've got to go now" Prue said. Phoebe nodded at her. "To work with one's hands is a great gift" Melinda said. "Well I am a true labourer. I earn what I eat, get what I wear" Leo said. Prue and Andy looked at him confused while Piper just smiled.
"Owe no man hate, envy no man's happiness" Melinda responded back. "Shakespeare" they both said at the same time. Phoebe smiled next to Melinda awkwardly. "Wasn't that fun" Andy asked. "OK let's go now" Prue said. They all walked out of the room as Leo walked in. Prue Phoebe and Andy walked ahead while Melinda stopped at the door with Piper looking back at Leo. "He is a treasure Piper" Melinda said to Piper. "Why are you telling me" Piper asked. Melinda gave her a knowing look as they walked out of the room and caught up with Prue Phoebe and Andy. "So do you know how to find Matthew" Prue asked Melinda. Melinda shook her head. "Unfortunately no. He could be anywhere" she said. "Well we know he killed a lawyer with the last name Halliwell. It's not going to be too long until he finds you guys" Andy said. "Yea which is why we have to be careful" Piper said. "Well now we have Melinda. She can tell us all about Matthew" Phoebe said.
Across town, at Angel Investigations, Angel was looking in the phone book for people with the last name Halliwell since Matthew killed a lawyer with the same last name. Cordelia and Doyle were sitting at the computer looking through the police reports Andy was able to send them. "What I don't get is why didn't the powers that be send you a vision or something. Isn't that how were supposed to know where these demons and warlocks are so we can stop them" she asked Doyle. He shrugged his shoulders. "Your guess is as good as mine. It's been quiet on the vision front which is good for my head" Doyle said. "Bad for us though. Without your visions we're fighting Matthew blind" Angel said. "Maybe Phoebe will have a vision of Matthew to tell us who his next victim is" Doyle said. "Well until one of you do we have no idea where Matthew is going to be next. There's too many Halliwell's in this phonebook and Matthew's too dangerous for us separate" Angel said.
"Well let's find him and kill him once and for all" a voice said from the office door. Everyone looked over to the door and Angel walked in front of Cordelia and Doyle. "What are you doing here Darla" he asked. "We're supposed to be working together to find Matthew. He is a threat to all of us remember you said that" Darla said walking deeper into the office looking around. "That's Darla" Cordelia whispered to Angel. Darla smiled at Cordelia. "Yes I'm the ex. Apparently Angelus decided to downgrade with his next lover" Darla said. Cordelia looked offended. "Excuse me" she said. "Do you have any information that can help us" Doyle asked before Cordelia could get into a full fledged fight with Darla. Darla looked at Doyle. "Who are you" she asked. "Doyle. I'm the third member of Angel Investigations and my visions are why Angel went and got you" Doyle answered. "Well Matthew killed again. A hardware store owner with the last name Halliwell" Darla said.
Back at the Halliwell manor, Prue Piper Phoebe and Melinda were sitting at the dining room table while Andy put the necklace around Melinda's neck. "Once Matthew had what he wanted he told the tow council I was a witch and they arrested me. Then they burned me at the stake" Melinda said as Andy took a seat next to Prue. "Why didn't you save yourself" Piper asked. "Yeah why didn't you use your powers to escape" Phoebe asked. Melinda smiled at them. "I had a daughter. Her name was Prudence" Melinda said nodding at Prue who just smiled at her. "Well I guess we know where the P name tradition started" Andy said. The sisters nodded at him. "She meant everything to me. If I used my powers I would have proven Matthew's charge and Prudence would have burned to. So I thought I'll accept this and pray some kind soul will take pity on my daughter and raise her in a safe home. Only then can the Warren line continue" Melinda said.
"It must have worked because here you are" Melinda said. Prue smiled and looked away. Andy took her hand and she looked at him and smiled. He smiled back at her. "Why do Warren witches lose their moms so early" Phoebe asked. "Phoebe I can't change the past but I think I can protect the future" Melinda said. "How" Andy asked. Melinda looked over at him. "Matthew is so strong and he has this wild power. He can be at one place and then another" Prue said. "In the blink of an eye" Melinda asked. "Exactly" Andy said. "It's called blinking. He must have copied it from another witch. I stripped of all the powers he copied from me but who knows what other powers he still has" Melinda said. "What do you mean copied from you" Phoebe asked. "Matthew's gift is to copy the power of a good witch when it's used against him" Melinda said. "Then he definitely has mine" Prue said. Andy nodded. "Yeah I felt it" he said rubbing his neck.
"Once he's copied a power it has no affect on him. Should he gain all three powers he will be impossible to vanquish" Melinda said. "So how exactly are you guys going to stop him if you can't use your powers on him" Andy asked. "We curse him back into the locket" Melinda asked. "What if we can't" Piper asked. They all looked at each other no one wanting to say what would happen if they couldn't curse Matthew into the locket. "We'll find a way Piper" Prue said. Phoebe nodded. "Yeah Melinda did it once. She can do it again" she said. Melinda nodded. "There are some things I'll need. I can't remember everything" she said. "Maybe we'll find the ingredients in the book" Phoebe said. Piper nodded. "If it's a spell we need it should be in there" she said. Melinda smiled. "The book of shadows. I haven't seen that thing in ages. Where is it" she asked. "In the attic" Prue said. Melinda nodded. "The ingredients should be in there" she said.
Cordelia and Doyle were heading to the hardware shop where the man was killed. Cordelia was driving and Doyle was in the passenger seat. She banged the steering wheel. "I can't believe this" Cordelia said. "I know you missed the turn. Don't worry we can turn up here" Doyle said. Cordelia looked at him. "What? Oh no not that. I missed the turn on purpose. This is a faster way to get there. What I meant is I can't believe you and me are out going to this hardware store while Angel is back at the office with his ex-girlfriend" she said. Doyle looked at Cordelia. "Nothing's going to happen between them you know" he said. Cordelia nodded. "I know that. It's just frustrating that she's here and is helping us. We can normally deal with these cases with the sisters not ex's that we have a history with" Cordelia said. "Well she's strong and we're going to need her…" Doyle started to say but yelled in pain as a vision hit him. Cordelia pulled over. Doyle looked at her. "I know where Matthew is" he said.
Back at the Halliwell manor, Melinda Prue Andy Phoebe and Piper all walked up to the attic. "I can't believe I don't remember all the ingredients" Melinda said opening the door and walking into the attic and over to the book of shadows. "It's been a while since you cursed Matthew" Prue said. "At least you know some of the ingredients" Andy said. "It's been 300 years. It makes sense that you can't remember all of the ingredients" Phoebe said. "Whatever you don't remember should be in the book" Piper said. Phoebe put the book on the stand. "The book of shadows. Oh my it's gotten so thick" Melinda said excitedly. "It wasn't always" Prue asked. "No but obviously each generation of Warren witches has added to it over the years and has made it so" Melinda said opening the book and flipping through it. Piper smiled at her. "Have you added anything" she asked the sisters. "Us. Are you kidding? We're new at this. We can't just make up our own spells. Wait can we" Phoebe asked.
"All things in time Phoebe. The book will grow as you grow and sometimes you add to it, sometimes it teaches you" Melinda said. She pointed at a page in the book. "Oh here's the curse" she said. Piper looked at the page she was pointing at. Andy handed Melinda a piece of paper and a pencil. Melinda took the paper and pencil and looked at the pencil confused. "You can write down the curse on that paper" Andy said. Melinda looked up at him. "No ink" she said. "No" Andy said. Prue Piper and Phoebe all smiled at her. Piper looked back down at the book. Melinda started writing and gasped when it worked. She smiled as she wrote down the ingredients. Prue Phoebe and Andy smiled and laughed at her excitement over the pencil. "Grams must have added this one" Piper said. Melinda looked down at the page. "To increase patience" she read. Phoebe laughed. "I bet she used that spell a lot raising us huh" she said nudging Prue.
"We weren't all troublemakers Phoebe" Prue said. "Yea I seem to remember someone in this room getting arrested once or twice" Andy said. Phoebe shook her head. "Only one of those times was my fault. I wasn't a troublemaker. I was just…" Phoebe said looking for the right way to describe herself. "A pain" Piper finished for her. "A free spirt" Phoebe finally said. "A handful" Prue said. "From the stories Prue has told me you sure gave your grandmother a hard time" Andy said. "Sounds like you're a Warren. It's a family trait" Melinda said. Prue and Phoebe looked at each other and made faces at each other. They looked back at Melinda. "So are the short tempers, the great cheekbones, the strong will and of course the powers" Melinda said closing the book. "All blessings. All signs of where you came from. This book is your connection and it began with me" Melinda said. "Well let's make sure it doesn't end with us. We need to get going" Prue said. They all walked out of the attic.
"Matthew's going to be where" Angel said into the phone. "At quake. Doyle just had a vision. We're coming back to the office" Cordelia said. "Call the sisters. Let them know what's going on" Angel said. "OK but what are you going to do" she asked. "I'm just going to pay Matthew a little visit" Angel said. "No don't. It's dangerous" Cordelia said. "I'll have the sisters and Darla there with me. I'll be fine" Angel said. Cordelia sighed. "I love you" she said. "I love you too" Angel said hanging up the phone. "So where is Matthew" Darla asked as Angel put on his coat. "At Quake it's a restaurant" he said. "What is the plan" Darla asked. "I'm going to kill him" Angel said. "What are we supposed to do it by ourselves? That didn't work out so well the last time" Darla said. Angel shook his head. "This time we have the charmed ones on our side" he said. Darla laughed. "They're useless. They can't use their powers or he'll copy them. Then we're all dead" Darla said.
Andy walked into the kitchen and hung up the phone. "That was Cordelia and Doyle. They found Matthew" he said. "Where is he" Prue asked. "Quake" Andy said. "What" Piper asked. Andy nodded. "Cordelia Doyle and Angel are on their way. Do we have everything" Andy asked. "Actually there's a few herbs we don't have and the place they are is at the restaurant" Piper said. "That's not our only problem. We also need a feather from a spotted owl" Phoebe said. "Is that a problem" Melinda asked. "Well they're an endangered species" Prue said. "That's going to be hard to get" Andy said. Melinda looked confused. "Certain animals from your time aren't really around anymore" Prue explained. "A lot of them are going extinct" Andy said. "Why" Melinda asked. "Deforestation, pollution and…" Phoebe started to say until Prue gave her a questioning look. "It's a long story" Phoebe said in conclusion. "Do you think they have one at the zoo" Piper asked.
"What's a zoo" Melinda asked. "In theory it's this big garden kind of place where all of the animals are caged" Phoebe said. "You know what I'll work on the feather" Prue said. "What are you guys going to do about the herbs" Andy asked. "I can get them but we have another problem besides Matthew being there. I might have a problem getting out because I'm supposed to work the night shift tonight" she said. "That's fine. Angel Cordelia and Doyle will be there if Matthew tries anything they can hold him off while you get the stuff. Me and Phoebe will go with you" Andy said. "We can bring back the stuff if you get hung up" Phoebe said. "No you can't leave the house. You are the two Matthew needs" Melinda said. "We'll be fine. We won't use our powers" Piper said. "Yeah it'll be fine" Phoebe said. "Except the part where the three of you are gong where the warlock who's trying to kill us is" Prue said. "We'll be fine. We just have to get the stuff. Once we get it we'll be back" Andy said.
After a huge debate Andy put on his leather jacket and drove over to Quake in his car. Piper and Phoebe would meet him there. They were taking Piper's car just in case they got held up and Piper had to stay. Andy walked trough Quake. He didn't see Matthew and everyone seemed fine which was a good sign. "Andy" he heard someone call his name. He turned around and saw Angel sitting at a table with a woman he'd never seen before. He walked over to the table. "Did you find Matthew" Andy asked. Angel shook his head. "No I think we're early. Where are thee sisters" Angel asked. "Piper and Phoebe will be here soon. They have to pick up ingredients for a…" Andy stopped looking at the woman not knowing what she knew. "A new dish they want to try" Andy said covering himself. He held out his hand. "I'm Andy Trudeau" he said. The woman smiled at him. "You're cute. You would make a good snack" she said licking her lips. Angel quickly got between her and Andy. "Don't even think about it" he said to the woman. He turned to Andy. "Andy this is Darla. My ex" he said. Andy looked her up and down. So this was Angel's ex. Interesting.
Matthew stood outside Quake with Hannah. "What are we waiting for" he asked. "Me. Sorry I'm late I had other business to take care of" the woman said holding out her hand. "Lilah Morgan" she said introducing herself. Matthew just stared at her. "What do you want" he asked. Lilah shrugged. "Oh you know just to help you get the last two powers and your revenge on those two vampires who helped curse you into the locket. Only if your interested of course" she said. Matthew smiled evilly. "Very" he said. Lilah smiled at him. Matthew waited 300 years for his revenge in about 15 minutes he would have it with the help of wolfram and hart of course.
