Chapter 13
Kate held her belly, "Ana, I'm going to pop! How did you do this three times and the last you popped out two at once." Ana laughed after 10 years Kate was still the same.
Ana looked at the kids playing in the pool. Christian and Ana married each other, just months after the proposal. Ana and Christian in May. Then Elliot and Kate followed in June.
Ana became pregnant on their honeymoon and gave birth to the first grandchild, Theodore Raymond Grey. He had Christian's hair, eyes, and attitude. Elizabeth cried it was like a blessing seeing it all over again.
Two years later she and Kate were pregnant at the same time and only a day apart, they both gave birth to baby girls. Kate and Elliot had the oldest granddaughter Ava Grace Grey. Ava had Elliot's blonde hair and Kate's green eyes. Christian and Ana had Phoebe Elizabeth Grey. Phoebe had brown fuzz, not like Teddy. Christian really fell in love all over again when she opened her eyes for the first time. They were Ana's deep blue color.
After that Ana said she was done and wanted to focus on her career. Elizabeth retired along with Grace and watched the grandkids. Ana was now in charge of Grey Publishing. Christian never wanted to stop her. She had given him two healthy, beautiful babies.
Kate was very career driven and she planned to stop at one. She took over Kavanagh Media with her brother to give her dad a break. Elliot begged for a boy. Kate of course being Kate argued. "Ana, he made the first one a girl. I had no choice." Ana winked at her and got her to agree to go for one more, just later.
Ana had just gotten Phoebe in kindergarten and she missed her shot. She cried when she was told she was pregnant after she realized she missed it. She cried even more when Dr. Greene informed her she was carrying twins. Once she saw the blips she stopped crying.
She saw her baby boys trying to keep up with the big kids. She named them Jackson Christian and Jason Carrick Grey. Taylor was beyond proud that he was named after him. She saw Phoebe running from the pool to meet Grace, Carrick, Elizabeth, and Jack. "Teddy! Ava! Watch Jackson and Jason." They waved at her, "Hey mommy!" They were identical. They looked like a mix of the two. Their hair seemed brown in the winter months, but lightened in the summer to match Elizabeth's color. They both had blue eyes, but were very light and distinctive.
Kate was having a boy and Elliot was over the moon. He was taking Elliot's name and going to be a junior. He already had EJ as a nickname. Elliot was so happy and even though Kate complained everyday, she was too.
Teddy helped the boys out and ran soak and wet to Christian and Elliot on the grill. He looked just like him and was a daddy's boy. Phoebe held Grace and Elizabeth's hands and walked them over. She was Ana all over again. "How's everyone doing?" They all sat looking fresh, but exhausted.
They were all just getting back, Christian and Elliot sent all the grandparents on a month long vacation. Both of them were doing very well business wise. Kate laughed, "My parents are coming, but they are beat."
Christian held up a plate full of hamburgers and hot dogs. "Kids food is ready. Adults in a minute. Ava and the twins joined the group. Every grandparent grabbed one kid and a towel to dry them off.
They all lived in a newer community that Elliot's company built. They were all close. Kate's parents came just in time for her water to break. "Man! Aunt Kate, now we'll miss the fireworks." Ana gave Teddy a stern look. "Sorry Aunt Kate."
Kate stood up, "Everyone relax, eat, and come when you finish. We've got this. Last round El!" Everyone laughed. Ana started throwing stuff in containers. Grace and Elizabeth helped her while the men changed the kids. "Ana go baby, we've got this."
Ana went with Elliot to be with Kate. Kate called her parents on the way and Christian waved while he made a couple of quick phone calls too. Sawyer and Prescott pulled the two Mercedes vans around and they all split up to head to Kate.
Everyone made it and were in the waiting room. Ana ran out, "EJ is here!" All the grandparents cried and the kids cheered. "He's beautiful, blonde hair already and blue eyes. Kate had him very quickly, even the doctors were surprised.
Ana waved at Gail and Taylor. He had officially retired, but they were still family. Ana told Kate's parents and brother to head on back. She hugged Grace to congratulate her. "G-Pa! G-Ma!" Ana turned and saw Teddy running to Ray and Carla. She smiled at her parents who were now remarried and a part of the family.
After Teddy was born, Carla was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her asshole of a husband left her and she had no choice but to call Ray. He was more forgiving and he took care of her through it all. Ana was cold and refused to see her or him. Christian couldn't understand it. And they had the biggest fight of their entire marriage.
Of course she ran to Grace. "I can't forgive her. How can he take care of her now? She's only here because she's sick. So we have love her just to say goodbye. I lost so much time and happiness because of her. Now she comes back when she's dying. She only wants to cause pain. I won't do it."
Grace got it, but she couldn't let Ana not forgive. If Carla died, Ana would break, she just didn't know it. "Baby, I learned a lot when Elena betrayed me. She's your mom and her mistakes and your pain made you the wonderful, exceptional, warm human being in front of me today. Sometimes the things we lose eventually make their way back to us. And Ana, they aren't always the same, sometimes they are worse than before, but sometimes they are so much better." Grace watched tears fall. "But if you don't pick up those lost things, you'll never know. Either way this family will be here to pick you up even if that loss is worse. We love you."
Grace smiled as Ana hugged Ray and a healthy Carla. She needed a double mastectomy, but it saved her life. Ana and Carla's relationship had grown into something different, new, and better, just like Grace told her.
Phoebe pointed out of the dark window and saw fireworks. Christian grabbed Jason. "I have an idea." They all followed him. They stood on the roof and watched all of the fireworks explode in the air.
Grace heard Carla speak to Ana. "Ana, I'm so proud of you. You did this." She pointed to Christian in front of them with his arms around all of his kids. "I'm sorry I wasn't the mother you wanted, but you didn't need me. Always be proud of that." Carla kissed her cheek. "Thank you for forgiving me and allowing me to be a part of this."
Grace nudged her, "See baby, the things we lose, sometimes return so much better. Look at what you did." Grace walked over and hugged Carrick. They called Elliot on FaceTime on mute so they saw the fireworks without the noise. Then she saw Elizabeth and Jack hugging and happy.
Ana watched Carla embrace Ray and point to the night sky. She kneeled down and kissed Christian on the lips. He smiled, "What's that for?" She kissed him again and saw her kids that were happy and healthy. They were growing up so fast and so different from either of them.
She hadn't answered Christian so he pulled her up. He looked into her eyes. Those blue eyes he loved so much. He held his hands up, waiting. "It's for the things we have. I'm so thankful for you, them, everything we have. And I never plan on losing them."
Christian smiled. His whole life before Ana, he was angry because of the things he lost. He never focused on what he had right in front of him. "Ana, I love you. The things we have, whatever it is, should be appreciated. Thank you Ana."
