X~ Day One ~X
Waking up alone in an apocalypse had become a norm for the blond, but waking up in a slight haze with the reminisce of someone else's seed, all over him… was not. He vaguely remembered going into a sudden heat, then hearing the sound of someone or something climbing into his apartment…. Then, just feelings.
The feeling of fear, then a warm calmness.
The feeling of being empty, then fuller then he'd ever been.
The feeling of finally being whole, complete and with someone after being alone for so long…..
He wanted to believe it was all nothing more than a bad dream, but after lifting the sheets, he could literally see himself covered in the evidence. Seeing the white flakes of semen mixed with dried blood made tears form in his eyes. He'd promised himself to an Alpha when he was a child and although it was a child's promise and likely long forgotten by the Alpha himself, he had wanted to stay pure all the way to the afterlife when maybe they could finally be together.
Now it all seemed moot.
Wiping away his unshed tears with the back of his fist he glared and clenched his hands into his sheets till they turned white. There was no sense crying over what had already happened. Taking a deep and calming breath, he released his hands and got up from his soiled bed with a wince, then made his way over to the small basin of water to wash himself off as best he could.
He had known an Alpha's knot could quell a heat faster, but thus far, he'd avoided it, having shut himself in whenever he felt the sting of it coming, not wanting to give into that side of him in favour of his dream Alpha. This time however, his heat had hit him so suddenly while he was up working on the rooftop garden.
It started when an amazing scent had blown up on the wind. He had obviously forgotten to seal all the windows shut when he'd hightailed it back inside, because it resulted in a passing Alpha smelling him and following the scent till they found him.
Having finished cleaning himself up and dressing, the blond stripped his bed and dumped the soiled sheets in the hamper, to be dealt with later. Wandering into the kitchen Naruto smiled upon seeing his parents by the window.
"Morning mum, morning dad," he greeted, walking straight over to them. "Sorry I'm up late, had a rough night, ya know," he blanched, but quickly pushed the thought away. "I'll get you two something to eat straight after cleaning you guys up a bit." He grinned, grabbing a cloth and dampening it a bit.
He dragged the damp cloth delicately over each leaf of the two plants, making sure there was no dust hindering their ability to absorb the sun's rays or spots that might indicate some sort of illness in the plants. As he did so, he talked to them the whole time, everything from his plans for the day, to anything else that popped into his mind.
Once he was satisfied that his parental plants were healthy, he watered them then started on his chores.
After losing his mother when she went on a scavenging run, then his father who went looking for her, Naruto had taken to caring for plants that reminded him of them. He'd found the two plants in someone's abandoned greenhouse several years prior when he went out after his father. For some reason, he'd known the moment he saw both plants that resemble them so much, that they were both gone. After that he made it his mission, that if he could keep the plants alive, he too would be able to survive.
His mother was a small red rose bush, kept small on purpose making her small but thick and prickly - just like her personality -, with a single flower in constant bloom, while his father was a luscious yellow tulip with strong, thick green leaves.
Growing up, his mother always told him, 'It's the little things in life that can keep us sane.' and she wasn't wrong. If it hadn't been for his adoptive parental parents, he'd likely have gone insane already from their absence.
Both his parents were amazing people. Before the dead began to rise, his father was an electrical engineer, while his mother was a homesteader both in farming and cooking. He'd learnt everything he knew from them, how to maintain the apartment building they'd taken over and the rooftop garden his mother had built. It was hard for only one person to maintain, but Naruto made it work.
X~ 2 months ~X
It had been a while since what Naruto had dubbed 'the incident' and he had to wonder if something was wrong with him. Normally when the full moon rose, so would his heat, but thus far, it had risen twice without him going into heat. It wasn't till he started feeling sick that he knew something was wrong.
After consulting many of the books in his library, he soon realised the inevitable.
He was pregnant.
He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs and hurl the book and anything else he could get his hands on, across his apartment at his rotten luck, but that would draw unwanted attention. Instead he ran his hand through his hair and down his face out of frustration. He had no idea how to take care of a baby, let alone even birth one. For all the wealth of knowledge his library had - and it had a lot - it didn't have anything about actual pregnancy and birth.
Sighing, the only thing he would come up with, was hitting the Traders Market, which was close to a week's walk away. There he hoped to trade something of his of value for either the knowledge or help with his pregnancy.
Cataloguing some of his most valuable items, he quickly packed up what he was willing to lose or trade and set out.
Looking down at the shambling horde below him, he tried to recall what the world was like before it all went to hell, but found that as time went on, he struggled more and more to remember. He was eight when it happened. The news story he'd seen on the tv at the time had said that it was caused by some questionable meat being sold at a shady little back street market stall that had started it and after that, it - whatever it was - had spread like wildfire through every country on the planet, making the dead come back to life and those bitten turn. No place was safe from it. But as his mother had once said, life will find a way.
Eleven years on, small pockets of people had learnt to survive. Major cities like the one he lived in, were considered danger zones, thus avoided by most - which made it the best place to hide if you wanted to stay away from people. As such, small gated communities had popped up all over the place, as well as a place that had been dubbed 'The Traders Market'. A heavily fortified small town where people came from all over the place to trade with each other in relative safety.
And that's where Naruto was heading.
X~ 3 Months ~X
Sasuke was exhausted, no, it was beyond that, he was dead on his feet!
He'd spent over three months on the road, rendezvousing with several of the other scavenging and trading teams while coordinating all of the gathered supplies back to their base. Not to mention his random rut at the start that had thrown him completely off course and into a city crawling with the undead. But the scent he'd followed had been amazing and near impossible to ignore.
Shaking his head, he turned back into his brother's debriefing of the other teams.
"- risky yes, but worth it."
"Is it really worth it when we don't even know the state of the panels?" he asked, foot tapping to show he would rather be anywhere else but here. "On top of that, we'd need to expand the base to fit another solar farm."
Ignoring him, Itachi continued. "Bravo team said the place was crawling with the undead still wearing the companies uniform, which likely means it's untouched since the start of the pandemic, meaning scavengers haven't been able to get in and they said the same about a cement and brick factories they found in the same industrial area."
Eye twitching with irritation, Sasuke scowled and threw his hands in the air. "Whether I say anything in disagreement or not, you've obviously already made up your mind about going after the solar farm and this stupid expansion. Rather, I'd like to hear if Charlie team was able to secure the medical supplies from the Traders Market."
"Sadly no," Itachi shook his head and stood, walking over to the open window. "No one had what we needed, though, they did encounter an interesting Omega on the way back. He walked right up to them while they were in the middle of fighting a small horde of undead and asked to trade information on pregnancy and child rearing in exchange for the few items he had on him." Itachi laughed, obviously at the memory of being told the circumstances. "Obviously captain Hatake wouldn't just leave such a defenceless, young, pregnant Omega out there to his own devices."
"Let me guess, he brought him back here," Sasuke droned while rolling his eyes and cutting his brother off, all the while ignoring the fact that no Omega - especially one that's pregnant - can just walk through a undead horde, Kakashi must have exaggerated the story.
"Of course," Itachi chuckled. "As it turns out, the boy has some rather interesting knowledge that he's shared with us." Pushing off from the window sill, Itachi grabbed a piece of paper from his desk and handed it to the younger raven, "What do you make of this?" he asked.
Looking over the sheet quickly he answered, "It's the projected food stores for the season."
"It's been just under a month since his arrival and he's already doubled our projected harvest," Itachi said with an excited face. "If this continues he may even triple it if we can get what's needed to build another greenhouse and storage shed!"
"I'm glad this new Omega is helping the base so much, but can we move on now?" Sasuke asked, his irritation back with an eye twitching vengeance.
"Okay, how about we talk about the Omega you've been with recently instead?"
"Haven't been around any," Sasuke scoffed defensively, turning his head away and crossing his arms in a childlike defiance. "You know I'm saving myself."
"You can lie to yourself, Sasuke, but don't lie to me." Itachi rolled his eyes and crossed his own arms. "When you met up with some of the other squads, they could smell an Omega's heat on you. Hell I can even smell the faintest scent of heat still lingering on you." Seeing the obvious distress the younger raven was in, Itachi whispered, "Do you want to talk about it? There's no shame in sleeping with an Omega, you know that right?"
"I went into a fucking rut and slept with the first Omega in heat my inner Alpha could find, okay? End of story." Sasuke growled.
"Are you sure?" Itachi asked softly, approaching the younger Alpha like he was a cornered pantha, ready to attract. "You don't seem happy about sleeping with someone."
"I was saving myself!" Sasuke growled, baring his teeth.
"For the Omega child you promised a long time ago." Itachi nodded. "But Sasuke, that Omega might already be mated or even long dead. It's time to move on and I think you would make a good match for the new Omega."
"I'm not interested in the new Omega, I want the Omega I made a promise to when I was a kid!"
"Kami Sasuke, you're being stubborn! What do you even remember about that Omega?" The older raven tried to reason, his hands clasped together out of sheer frustration.
"He had amazing blue eyes, deep red hair, knew a deadly form of karate and had the most amazing, alluring scent!" Sasuke countered.
"Sasuke," Itachi tried again. "It's been eleven years since the start of the outbreak, the odds that this Omega you're looking for is still alive, is extremely low."
"Unlike us and Beta's, Omega's can't contract the undead disease! He could still be out there!" Sasuke countered, desperation evident in his voice.
"That's true, but you also know, the pheromones they produce draw the undead to them," Itachi said softly, almost like he was trying to gently break the news to the other, "It's why you don't see Omega's outside the safety of the walls of any compound."
"What about the Omega Charlie team brought back, hn? If that Omega can just wander around without being attacked, so could the one I'm looking for!"
"Sasuke, all I'm asking for, is for you to meet the new Omega."
"If you're so concerned about the new Omega, why don't you mate him?" Sasuke bit out, baring his teeth at the older Alpha.
"You know very well why, Sasuke," Itachi hissed back, baring his own teeth.
In a fit of anger, the words fell from his mouth before he could stop them. "Maybe instead of telling me to get over my Omega that might still be out there, you should get over your dead Omega." Realising what he'd said, Sasuke shut his mouth and instantly became submissive towards his brother, baring his neck in apology, but the gesture did nothing.
"Get out," Itachi whispered, his head down cast, hair falling slightly from the tie holding it in place to cover his face.
"Itachi, I'm…"
"Get the fuck out!" Itachi roared, raising his head to reveal Alpha red eyes and elongating teeth.
Not wanting to know the damage he may have just caused, Sasuke hightailed it out of the room, just as something large hit the closed door behind him.
X~ 4 Months ~X
Sasuke had successfully avoided any and all interactions with the blond Omega - Naruto - for a month now. He didn't class seeing - or in his case, watching - the Omega from afar as interacting or meeting him. It just so happened that everytime the blond was near, his inner Alpha's interest would peak - not his -, but having already avoided all the other Omega's throughout his life because he was saving himself for his promised one - even though Sasuke was no longer pure for him - he still had no intention of getting close to this one either. So when a volunteer scouting mission came up, Sasuke was first to throw up his hand.
Why did the decision make him feel so uneasy though?
"You should go down for a walk through the fields to clear your mind, you're being brash in your decision making at the moment." Itachi said as he came up behind him, leaning his back against the same rail Sasuke was leaning over.
"I'm too busy for that and I have better things to do, than go for a damn walk." Sasuke hissed back at the implied suggestion that would no doubt put him right in the path of the very Omega he was trying to avoid.
"Suit yourself," Itachi answered as he pushed off from the rail and walked down the stairs of the balcony to the field.
Sasuke watched as his brother approached Naruto, calling out the Omega's name to catch his attention. At watching how close the two had become he felt a low rumbling growl form deep within his chest. Feeling the denial of the situation, he hissed to himself that the Omega wasn't his so he shouldn't be angry. With another growl, he pushed himself off from the rail and stormed away.

"Naruto!" Itachi called out to the blond as he approached.
"Oh, Itachi, how are you today?" The blond beamed up at the Alpha, as he sat back on his knees so he wouldn't have to stand up from the patch he was working on.
"I'm good, how are you?" The raven replied.
"Really good." Naruto smiled, wiping his face with a cloth from his pocket. "Was just finishing up this patch before I went to see Sakura and Tsunade at the clinic."
"May I accompany you then?" Itachi asked with a soft smile.
"Of course, I just need to finish this last bit, then I'm good to go," He said, pointing to the small planter box full of saplings beside him.
"Let me help you then," Itachi said, dropping to his knees beside the Omega. "Two sets of hands can do a task faster than one," He laughed warmly.
"This is true," Naruto replied with his ever present and warm smile, handing the other a sapling and instructing him where and how to plant it.
In no time the task was done and Itachi was helping the Omega stand, gathering the tools as well so Naruto wouldn't have to bend back over to collect them.
"To the clinic then?" He asked as they dropped the supplies off at the green house.
"To the clinic." Naruto nodded enthusiastically as Itachi wrapped an arm around his shoulder.
Once there, the two exchanged pleasantries before parting ways, Itachi having to go check the guard roster and Naruto obviously going for his check up.
Walking into the clinic, the blond was immediately greeted by Sakura, his acting 'midwife'. She was a petite, pink haired Beta, with a love for cooking - he'd quickly found out.
"Hi Naruto!" She greeted warmly, offering him some of the cookies she'd recently baked. "Shall we get started?"
"Sure, not like I have anything else to do, right?" He laughed as he took a cookie from the plate and followed her into a makeshift examination room.
The room had a basic setup to it, but still carried everything needed. It had an examination bed - likely swiped from a hospital early on -, a cabinet full of supplies, a desk and a chair.
Knowing the routine now, Naruto stripped off his shirt, allowing Sakura to bring out her tape measure and begin measuring his belly from all angles and writing everything down as she went. From there he shed his pants and she began the uncomfortable task of checking his opening and measuring it to observe its progress. Then finally, she asked him how he was feeling.
"I'm starting to notice I'm getting tired more easily, but other than that, the morning sickness is finally all but gone." He grinned, slipping his shirt over his head.
"Alright then," Sakura clapped her hands together. "I think everything is going well, but I'll pass it all on to Tsunade when she gets back from the Traders Market to look over for anything I might have missed. Until then, please continue to monitor yourself closely and come here immediately if you have any concerns or something changes."
As an afterthought, Sakura turned and asked the blond a question that looked to have been on her mind for a while. "Do you plan on taking a mate while you're here?"
"No," he said, shaking his head with a soft smile. "I have a mate already, I just don't know where he is at the moment."
"Will you take a temporary mate then?" She asked as she began to clean up the room.
"No, I don't see the point in leading someone along," Naruto answered sadly before changing the subject, "What about yourself?"
"Oh." She blushed deeply, "I have someone I like, but they're an Alpha and I'm a Beta, so I don't think it would ever work, ya know?" Her voice reflected the downturn her face refused to show behind her fake smile.
"You never know until you try right?" Naruto smiled. "Why not try talking to them? You're an amazing cook and anyone would be lucky to have you as a mate, second gender aside."
"But I don't think they've ever even noticed me," she whined as she finished putting Naruto's file away. "Naru, how do I get someone to notice me?" She asked, sitting in front of him and taking his hands in hers with all the seriousness and desperation clearly written on her face like an open book.
Smiling at her he squeezed her hands. "To get my fathers attention, my mother walked up to him and punched him," he laughed, "I'm not saying you should do that, but why don't you try talking to them first?" he answered.
"You're right!" She stood up suddenly. "I'm going to do it…. Right now! I'm going to go right up to them and talk to them!" She declared with her fist in the air. "Wish me luck!" She exclaimed as she ran out the door.
"Good luck!" Naruto yelled after her retreating footsteps, a soft smile adorning his face.
X~ 5 Months ~X
"And how are the food stores looking?" Itachi asked as he walked alongside one of his advisors.
"Honestly, the best they've ever been." Shikamaru yawned as he looked over the paperwork on his clipboard. "We're filling them so fast, we're having to look at building a third shed just to hold it all. At this rate, we won't have to ration anything during winter like we've had to in the past."
"That's good," the raven mused, his eyes glancing out over the fields beside them till they locked onto a blond mop of hair. "And what do you attribute the exceptional growth and storage to?" He asked offhandedly, eyes never leaving the Omega in the distance as he worked the fields like the rest, even in his current state.
"If I had to pinpoint something, it would actually be a someone," answered the brunette Beta next to Itachi. "That Omega that was found a few months back, his ideas on crop plantation are amazing and ingenious, and the livestock also seems to be thriving better than they ever have."
"He is rather remarkable, isn't he?" Itachi chuckled. "He still won't tell me though how he moved through a horde of undead without detection." He mused out loud before turning back to the brunette. "Thank you for the update Shikamaru." He said in dismissal as he sped up his footsteps, cutting across the field towards the blond Omega.
Upon arrival closer to the blond, he could hear him talking to others in the field.
"... and I want you two working on the bean saplings, making sure they're gripping the corn stalks properly," Naruto said as he pointed to the two closest to him. Upon receiving nods from everyone he grinned. "Awesome, let's make this day count!"
"Bring the day or it'll leave you behind!" They all sang as they broke apart and went about their assigned jobs, leaving the blond smiling at him.
"How are you today Itachi?"
"Good." The older raven smiled warmly. "I hear congratulations are in order."
"Oh?" Naruto said, tilting his head to the side in confusion.
"The yield from the crops this season is due to be very fruitful I hear." Itachi answered coyly.
"I only suggested some changes in the structure of how they plant and grow the crops, nothing big though," Naruto laughed. "It's all thanks to the hard work everyone's putting in daily that it's becoming so fruitful."
"You are too modest, Naruto." Itachi smiled, shaking his head. "Shikamaru tells me that the bounty this season is already far beyond anything we've ever stored already. That we're even having to build a third shed just to hold it all and winter has yet to arrive."
"Seriously, you already had the foundation, all I did was change a few things." The blond concurred.
"And what of this then?" Itachi pointed to a row of corn that several people were attending to, making sure the plants at the base were gripping the storks properly.
"Bean's grow well vertically, and corn grows vertically. It's logical to save space by having the beans grow up the corn's stork, this way they work in symbiosis with each other." Naruto smiled.
"And I guarantee that no one here has ever thought of that," Itachi said, shaking his head. "You've been able to combine so many of our crops, making the output yield so much higher than if we had kept them separated, and the livestock also seems to be faring better."
Laughing, Naruto explained, "Chickens need grit in their diet to produce good quality eggs in a larger quantity and cattle like nettles to eat as a treat and if you make them happy, they produce more milk. It's just something my mother taught me, 'happy farms produce more and better tasting food'." he recited with a smile.
"Well your mother sounds like she knew her stuff." The Alpha chuckled, eyes slipping to the Omega's now prominently swollen belly. "How is your pregnancy going?" He asked.
"It's going well." The Omega's smile turned soft as his eyes drifted down and an absent hand began to stroke his belly. "I've started to feel movement in the past couple of weeks." Eyes lighting up suddenly, Naruto grabbed Itachi's hand like a lightning strike and pressed it against the side of his stomach.
"Wah…." Itachi said, surprised by the action till he felt the gentle pressure of something under his hand.
"Do you feel that?" Naruto asked with a beaming smile.
"Yes." Itachi marvelled as he continued to feel the gentle push of something against his palm from within the Omega.
"They're an active little bub," the Omega laughed, grabbing the Alpha's other hand to press it to the otherside of his belly.
Itachi continued to marvel at the gentle movements and feather-like touches he felt inside the Omega, imagining his own Omega long passed beneath his hands, his mind beginning to immerse him in the joy they had both felt when they felt the first movement from their bub. So lost in his thoughts of the past was he, that he didn't notice the Omega below his very fingers talking to someone beside them till he felt a soft hand on his shoulder and an even softer voice pull him from his distant memories.
"Itachi? I need to go, are you okay?"
"Yeah," Itachi answered, his voice seeming far away as he mentally berated himself for thinking that Naruto was his Omega. "Have a good day Naruto." He whispered as they parted ways.
Kisame appeared next to him as Itachi left the field, steps quick with shame. "You're gettin a bit too close to blondie don't ya think?" The larger man commented. "Considerin he's not really one of us and 'll likely be leavin once the bub's born."
"I'm just making sure Naruto and his baby are safe, that is my only interest," Itachi growled, "Plus, the child he carries is like a beacon of hope for those in this camp. If I can, I'll make sure he stays."
"I just don't want ya gettin attached to anotha Omega, only to watch 'im die," Kisame said solomeny, "Just like Dei…." receiving a punch to the gut, the larger man dropped to his knees.
"If you know what's good for you, you won't finish that sentence!" Itachi hissed, baring his teeth at the fallen Alpha at his feet. "And don't you worry, I'll make sure Naruto and his baby survive."
X~ Elsewhere ~X
Sasuke growled, hands clenching the wooden rail of the watchtower, claws sinking in as he watched his brother getting closer and closer to the blond Omega working in the field. He knew logically he shouldn't care, this wasn't his Omega, but something in him hated seeing his brother so close to him.
"What's got you so riled up?" Suigetsu asked as he walked up behind the raven Alpha.
"Nothing," Sasuke hissed, tearing his eyes away from the scene before him to look at the Beta.
Suigetsu just whistled with his hands in his pockets, looking out over the field behind him. "You sure? You seem awfully fixated on that Omega."
"It's just your imagination." Sasuke growled, turning his attention to the otherside of the wall.
"You super sure about that?" The Beta laughed. "Cause if I even had the remotest chance, I'd tap that."
In an instant, Sasuke had his hand wrapped around Suigetsu's throat and had him against the rail. "You won't touch him!" Sasuke roared.
"Sure," Suigetsu coughed, hands up in surrender. "But what about your brother?" He asked, pointing back towards the field.
Upon turning his head, Sasuke saw his brother's hands on the blond Omega's stomach, a look of sheer contemptment across his face. At this sight, his inner Alpha began to roar, making his teeth and claws reach their maximum length, and eyes flash ruby red.
"If you're not interested in blondie, it looks like your brother might be and I gotta say, they make a pretty good looking couple."
Roaring out his anger at the sight of his brother with the Omega and comment of the Beta, Sasuke turned and punched Suigetsu so hard the Beta went straight through the wooden rail and over the edge of the wall, falling limply to the ground below. At this several people came running to see the commotion, watching as Sasuke stalked away. As he did, everyone close by gave him a wide berth, not wanting to be the next victim of his war path.
X~ 6 Months ~X
It was late at night and like most nights the small bar in the base was full of those that needed a break from the reality of their lives. A soft murmur filled the area by those that drank and chatted amongst themselves.
A small table up the back, full of Alpha's was quiet as its occupants relaxed into the ambiance of their surroundings, relishing in the moment of peace as they drank, till one of them finally broke it.
"I'm thinking of asking Naruto permission to court, think I have a chance?"
The table was silent for a moment before it erupted in laughter, several proclaiming their attraction for the blond, while others claimed they'd make a better mate to the Omega than each other. At this the table exploded with Alpha pheromones as they began a dominance display for the right to approach the Omega.
Before the fight could escalate, the area filled with a superior Alpha's scent. A scent so full of rage and domination, a scent so strong that it demanded submission from even the strongest of Alpha's, a scent that screamed superiority over them.
In an instant all the Alpha's in the area were quick to comply with its domination, retracting their scents and baring their necks in submission, not wanting to be the target of that domineering anger.
"Naruto is pregnant!" Sasuke roared. "You will leave him be and stop fawning over him like he's some bitch in heat!" He stood, making his way over to the table and slamming his hands down atop it. "If I catch any of you harassing him or worse pressuring him into mating, Kami help me, I'll make your life a living hell," He spat before turning and walking out of the bar.
For a while the whole bar was silent, watching and waiting to see if the enraged Alpha would return and when he didn't, conversation slowly picked back up again.
"He's kinda right," one of them finally said, taking a sip of his beer. "Omega's typically concentrate on their pregnancy and the baby. The last thing on their mind is mating again."
"So, we wait till the baby's born and his heat to starts up again." Another piped up, shrugging his shoulders.
"But I heard he's leaving after the baby's born." Another mentioned, eyebrows frowning as he contemplated the issue of the blond leaving.
Silence fell upon the table again as they all came to the same conclusion about the blond leaving.
"Then we make him wanna stay." One of them finally said, breaking the silence.
"How?" Most of them asked at once.
With a smirk on his face and the gears turning in his mind, one of the Alpha's spoke up. "We make him realise how safe it is here and how much he could be loved should he stay."
They all sat there for a while, each formulating their own plan to get close to the blond Omega and convince him to stay.
"May the best Alpha win!" One of them said, raising his beer glass.
The rest followed suit and soon they were all clinking their glasses together, a silent agreement amongst them that it was every Alpha for himself, but that none of them would push anything till the Omega's next heat.
X~ 7 Months ~X
Naruto was working the fields when an excited voice called out for him, making him look up from the plants he was tending to.
"Naru!" Sakura called again, a joyful grin firmly fixed upon her face. "I finally found you!" She squealed, running up to the Omega.
"Did you need something Sakura?" He asked, still kneeling on the ground.
"I thought I'd come and tell you some exciting news while I check how your pregnancy is progressing." She beamed, tape measure in hand.
"Do we really have to do that here? Can't we go back to the clinic?" He whined as she helped him stand.
"But it's such a nice day outside today." She continued to beam, a glint in her eye telling him she wasn't going to budge on the subject.
"Fine…" he grumbled, lifting his shirt to just above his baby bump.
"Good boy." She smiled as she began to measure his belly, gaining a few stares from those around them as she did so.
"So what's your good news?" He asked, trying to distract himself from the people staring.
"Oh, you remember that Alpha I was talking to you about?" After receiving a hum of recognition from the blond she continued. "Well, they finally accepted my advances and agreed to be my mate!" She said with a beaming smile that threatened to break her face apart.
"Congratulations." Naruto smiled back, finally able to drop his shirt now that she was done measuring him. "What do they do?" He asked.
"Oh, they're on one of the scavenging teams," she answered, her smile firmly in place as she finished jotting down his measurements in her notepad before putting it away. "Speaking of which, it looks like they've just returned!" She squealed, pointing at a group of people coming through the gates. "Come, come! I want to introduce you!" She shouted excitedly as she practically dragged the blond through the field and over to the returning scavenging party.
As he arrived at the gate, the scent of a strong Alpha caught the blond's attention and his eyes instantly locked with a set of angry red eyes belonging to a raven haired Alpha. He was similar in appearance to Itachi with raven hair and onyx eyes, yet this Alpha's presence somehow felt more in some way.
He'd seen this Alpha around, noticed him as if the Alpha was constantly there, constantly watching, yet not always in sight. Taking a step back from Sakura, his hand slipped from her grasp as the pinkette ran over to someone else.
His eyes were locked onto the raven in front of him and the world around him seemed to fall away. His body wanted this Alpha, wanted him like he'd go into heat at any second. And being so close to his scent, it was almost impossible to pull away. He took a step forward, the Alpha's eyes widened at his gaze and as if realising their sudden closeness.
Then, "Naru!" Sakura squealed, gaining the blond Omega's attention. "This is Ino, my amazing mate!" She grinned, snuggling into a female Alpha with long blonde hair who had an arm wrapped protectively around her.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Naruto," Ino said politely as she extended her hand.
Naruto pulled away from the trance he'd been in and walked the few feet to the blond Alpha and took her hand and was pleasantly surprised by the gentleness of her touch - considering she was an Alpha. "It's nice to meet you too." He smiled back.
"I should thank you for encouraging Sakura to come talk to me," she laughed as she scratched the back of her neck. "To be honest I was so terrified to talk to her. I thought she'd never be interested in someone like me."
"Well she is an amazing person." Naruto laughed.
"That she is," Ino laughed too, receiving a halfhearted smack from a pink-faced Sakura. "Sakura also speaks highly of you," she said, wrapping both her arms around Sakura's waist. "And so do many other base members."
"I'm just trying to do my part to help, since Itachi was kind enough to offer a safe haven for me to give birth in." He said with a soft smile as his eyes fell upon his swelling belly and his hands began to stroke it lovingly.
"Well, I'd like to help you go one step further with that and make your place just that bit more comfortable to live in, homely if you would," Ino smiled softly. "Since Sakura first started talking to me, she mentioned that your place doesn't feel as homely as your apartment in the city, so while I've been out scavenging, I've had my team looking for baby items for you."
"R… really?" Naruto stuttered as he looked up at the pair.
"Yeah, and I'd like to invite you around to mine tonight for a baby shower." Ino chuckled.
"What's a baby shower?" Naruto asked.
"It's a party where people get together and celebrate a new mother-to-be, by giving them gifts," she explained. "My mother told me it's something they used to do back before the dead began to rise."
"You're throwing me a party?" Naruto mumbled, tears brimming into his eyes.
"Yep," Ino smirked. "Sakura'll pick you up at 6, so you better be prepared to receive some awesome gifts!"
Tears finally fell from Naruto's eyes, his smile wavering as he filled with joy. "Thank you," He whispered.
"You're welcome." Ino grinned. "You're going to love some of the things we found."
X~ 8 Months ~X
It was rare for the brothers to have a night off together, so when they did, it had become a tradition for them to eat dinner together whenever their schedules aligned.
"I'm thinking of inviting Naruto to our next family dinner," Itachi said offhandedly as he brought his fork to his mouth and took a bite. "I think it would be a good opportunity for you two to finally meet."
"Enough Itachi, I'm not interested!" Sasuke growled.
Eyes shifting to the younger raven, Itachi smiled as he brought his fork to his mouth again. "Are you sure about that, little brother?"
"Of course I'm sure." Sasuke scoffed, taking an aggressive bite of his meal.
Taking a deep sighing breath, Itachi fained disinterest as he changed the direction of the conversation. "You know, I've seen several Alpha's from the base attempting to court the blond, that doesn't worry you?"
"Itachi, I've just returned from a scavenging mission, I'm exhausted, the last thing I want to do is talk about Omegas and I've already told you, I-want-nothing-to-do-with-that-Omega!" he roared, slamming his fists down onto the table.
"If you say so." Itachi smirked.

"Enough!" Itachi yelled. "I am forbidding you from working in the fields!"
"You can't do this to me!" Naruto screamed back.
"I'm the leader of this base and I'll do as I please," Itachi hissed, baring his teeth. "And if I say you're not allowed to work in the fields anymore, then you're not allowed to work!"
"Am I a prisoner now?!"
"Of course not." Itachi scoffed, turning away from the Omega to look out the window of his office.
"Then why are you treating me like one?" The blond pleaded.
Turning back to the Omega, the Alpha's eyes softened. "You're so close to your due date, I don't want anything to happen to you or the baby. Is that so wrong?"
Sighing, Naruto walked over to Itachi, stopping right in front of him. "No, but you have to understand Itachi, I'm fine, my baby is fine and my pregnancy is going fine. I'm also staying within the walls of the base at all times." Pulling Itachi into a hug, the blond continued to talk, voice softening as he rubbed the Alpha's back in small soothing circles. "Trust me Itachi, when I feel I need to stop, I will."
"My bond mate died during his pregnancy," Itachi whispered after a moment, hugging the Omega closer to him. "He pushed himself too hard and when we were attacked by a horde, the stress was too much and he went into early labour…. There was so much blood," he choked, burying his face into the shoulder of the blond. "I just can't lose you, not with who's growing in you."
Before the blond could ask what he meant, the door to the office slammed open and a feral growl filled the space. Then Naruto found himself being ripped from Itachi's arms and secured into another raven Alpha's arms.
"Sasuke, what are you doing?" Itachi asked warily.
The raven Alpha holding the blond Omega began a low rumbling growl deep within his chest, his arms gripping Naruto tighter as he turned to push him securely behind him. Once behind the Alpha, Naruto could smell the pheromones in the room begin to rise as both Alpha's faced off against each other.
From behind the enraged Alpha, Naruto could see Itachi raising his hands and backing away from them.
"Sasuke, think about what you're doing," Itachi said, lowering his voice as he continued to try and seem defenceless to the other Alpha.
"Mine!" Sasuke hissed, dropping down into a defensive stance, allowing the blond to see over the top of him.
"Sasuke," Itachi whispered, "You don't want to do this." the older raven said, shaking his head.
One second Sasuke was standing defensively in front of Naruto, and the next he was launching himself at the older Alpha. Claws and teeth bared, ready to sink into Itachi, but being older, Itachi easily grabbed a hold of and subdued the younger Alpha.
Naruto watched from where he still stood as Sasuke took several strangled breaths, his eyes beginning to shift from red to black. He noted that the pair really did look similar.
"Are you calm now?" Itachi asked as Sasuke tapped the arm wrapped around his throat.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." He whispered as he was let go. The moment the younger raven was freed, he stood and made his way towards the door. "Sorry." He said as he left.
The room fell into silence, neither of them wanting to really talk. Eventually though, Itachi stepped forward and pulled the blond Omega towards the couch against the wall, encouraging him to sit.
"Please forgive my brother, he doesn't normally act like that." Itachi said, giving Naruto a wry smile.
Naruto wanted to comment about it, but to be honest, he was so taken by the display and scent, that he had no words to describe why he let it escalate as much as it had. He could have easily put Sasuke on his arse, but something in him wanted to see what would happen.
X~ 8.5 Months ~X
"You know, rather than just staring at him from afar, you should just go up and talk to him," Itachi said flatly as he came up behind the younger raven Alpha leaning against the rail of the guard tower, overlooking the fields.
"I'm not staring at Naruto!" Sasuke growled.
"I never said who you were staring at. Funny how your mind went straight to Naruto though." Itachi chuckled condescendingly.
"Shut it, Itachi." Sasuke growled, still obviously watching the now heavily pregnant blond Omega still working in the fields. After a while of silence Sasuke whispered, "I don't know why I'm so attracted to him. I made a promise to someone and I don't want to break it."
Sighing, Itachi rubbed at his eyes out of frustration. "Why are you so hung up on this Omega from your past, when you obviously want the Omega that's right in front of you?"
"I don't know why I can't leave Naruto alone!" Sasuke growled, running a hand through his hair and ruffling it out of his own frustration. "The thought of leaving him alone angers me and I get even more angry every time I see another Alpha approach him or even hear them talk about him."
"Then claim him!" Itachi growled back. "If you want him that badly, then lay a claim to him and start courting him! You never know, he could be the Omega you're looking for!"
"Don't you get it, Itachi?" Sasuke turned, baring his teeth at the older Alpha. "I can't just break the promise, I can't just give up on the Omega I still dream of and Naruto has blond hair, not red! So he can't be the Omega from my past."
"It's not that you can't give up on your past Omega," Itachi said softly, ignoring the display from his brother. "It's that you won't. And for the record, hair colour can change over years."
Before Sasuke could say something rhetorical back to Itachi's comment, screams in the distance caught both their attention. Turning, they saw a horde of undead stumbling through the street of their base, chasing people that unknowingly walked into their path. Much to their horror, some of the horde seemed to break away, turning their sights towards the fields and those farming in it - several of which were Omega.
Jumping from the tower both Alpha's started screaming orders at those around them with weapons to begin a defensive assault, while they themselves ran to the field and towards the pregnant Omega just as several of the undead surrounded him and a little girl clutching his leg.
"NO!" Both Alpha's screamed as the first of the undead grabbed ahold of the blond, but to their surprise, it suddenly went flying as the blond's fist connected with it.
The second of the undead to come near the blond ended up with a powerful roundhouse kick to the face, crushing its skull in the process with a sickening crack. The third met a similar end to the second, but the kick this time was aimed at its gut and once on the ground, the scythe in the little girl had been holding was used to decapitate it before turning and slicing a forth in half.
"Why are you just standing there?!" Naruto yelled suddenly, making the pair realise they'd stopped and were just watching.
Being broken from their stupor, the pair quickly closed the gap between them and began to help the blond take out the rest of the undead surrounding them, both surprised by how strong the Omega seemed to be and how flexible he had remained even while heavily pregnant.
In no time the horde of undead was subdued and with it, Itachi immediately began to shout orders, forming several teams to search the rest of the base for stragglers as well as how they'd gotten in.
While discussing the breach with several other guard members, Itachi and Sasuke suddenly heard another scream, making everyone around them turn towards it, weapons at the ready, but what greeted them sent ice through their veins.
Naruto was hunched on the ground, a brunette Alpha crouched next to him, rubbing his back. With a growl, both ravens ran at the Alpha and were about to attack him when they heard him talking to the blond. "Just breathe through it, okay, it's probably just Braxton Hicks."
Taking several stuttering breaths Naruto nodded and eventually his face relaxed. "If that's what a false contraction feels like, I'm terrified of how bad the real ones gonna feel." He laughed awkwardly. "I think I'm fine now."
"Let me help you up." the Alpha said, offering his hand to the blond.
"Thanks Kiba," Naruto smiled, letting the Alpha help him to his feet.
A feral growl startled the pair making them turn in time to see Sasuke storming off.
"What's his deal?" Kiba grunted.
"No idea," Naruto bemused as his eyes followed the raven till he disappeared around a corner. Turning back to Kiba he asked, "How's Hinata's pregnancy coming along?"
"Great," the Alpha beamed, "I'm super excited for our second child. I'm hoping for a girl this time, want a daddy's lil princess, ya know?" he laughed.

Several hours had passed since the breach and everything was finally calm again. It had been discovered that the west wall gate had been left open and the sounds of the base and the smell of its occupants had led the horde directly to the opening. The person responsible had also already been found and reprimanded for falling asleep on the job, a serious reminder that complacency could get them all killed.
Itachi and Sasuke had reconvened in the older raven's office along with several other key people, all discussing changes that would need to be implemented in the guards rostering rotation to prevent it happening again. They had just drafted up a new system when the door to the office flew open so hard and fast that it bounced off the wall behind it, leaving a small dent. All members in the room were on their feet in an instant, weapons in hand and raised to attack.
What greeted them instead of another horde of undead, was a scrawny little panicked Beta at the door.
"Somethings wrong with Naruto!" he blurted out, gaining the attention of everyone in the room.
A hair breath of a second was all it took before everyone was climbing over each other and funnelling out of the room, following after the Beta leading the way.
They all arrived at the fields in no time flat, spotting a group of people in a tight-knit circle and could hear the screams of someone in pain from its centre. Pushing their way to the centre, the two ravens spotted Naruto on his back on the ground with Sakura next to him, holding his hand as she encouraged him to breathe.
Looking up at the pair, Sakura's eyes were panicked. "He's gone into early labour." She said, pointing out the wetness of the blond's pants.
"What do we do?" Itachi asked.
"We need to move him to the clinic, immediately!" Sakura said with urgency after taking a few deep calming breaths herself and moving from the blonds friend, to her nurse persona.
Sasuke saw the brunette Alpha that had been flitting around the blond step forward, about to offer to carry him, when Sasuke quickly volunteered, "I'll carry him," he said, scooping the blond up as gently as he could, then Sasuke started to run towards the clinic with Sakura hot on his heels.

Several hours passed and the screams of the blond had finally faded, but it didn't quell the nerves of the young raven Alpha who paced back and forth outside the clinic. Because Naruto was unmated and had no living relatives, Tsunade, the head of the clinic had decreed that no one was to enter. Several other Alpha's had stuck around for a while, bristling whenever they heard the blond scream, but Sasuke had eventually dismissed them all. Now, his brother and him were the only ones there, waiting for any kind of news of the blond.
The door to the clinic finally opened revealing a tired looking Sakura with a soft smile on her face. "He's sleeping," she whispered as she slumped against the wall, letting her head fall back and rest against it. "It's a boy." She murmured after a moment of silence.
"When can I see him?" Sasuke asked, walking up to the exhausted nurse.
"Tomorrow," Sakura answered softly and before the raven Alpha could argue, she cut him off. "He's just given birth and is extremely exhausted. Leave him be for the night." With the flip-flop of a hand, she pushed off the wall and walked back inside the clinic.

The raven pair arrive at a reasonable hour the next morning with Sasuke noting with irritation, the brunette Alpha just leaving the blond's clinic room, covered in the Omega's scent. In an instant, Sasuke's own scent filled the hallway as he puffed up his chest and went on the defence.
The Alpha in question just laughed at him and patted him on the shoulder as he passed. "Just remember, Naruto doesn't belong to you….. Yet." He barked out a laugh and left.
Growling softly, Sasuke walked with a purpose into the room with Itachi close behind him. But upon entering, Sasuke was immediately stopped by the scent in the room. It's a scent that was both familiar yet not. Like a mix of something he couldn't quite work out.
Pushing past him, Itachi walked right over to Naruto and began a conversation with him. "How are you feeling?" He asked.
"Like I've been run over by a horde of undead," the blond laughed, "But otherwise, I'm good, just a bit sore and tired."
"Where's bub?" He asked, noting the absence of the newborn.
"Sakura has him, she said I needed to rest, so she took him so I could nap." he whispered, resting his head back on the pillow behind him.
Coming over to the bed Sasuke finally spoke, "When do you think you'll be able to leave?"
"In a month or two," Naruto answered, "I don't want to overstay my welcome here. You've all been so kind and protected me during my pregnancy."
"I… meant the clinic." Sasuke whispered.
"Oh…" Naruto murmured, biting his lip.
"You're really leaving then?" The raven asked.
"Yeah," Naruto nodded, not meeting the Alpha's eyes.
The room fell into an awkward silence, no one wanting to address the blond leaving.
"I'm sorry….." Naruto started but was cut off by the Alpha.
"Stay and be my mate!" Sasuke blurted out, drawing the attention of the room's two occupants.
"I…. I can't," Naruto stuttered. "I made a promise to someone already."
Sasuke fell back a few steps like he'd been punched, his head hanging low as he nodded. He was about to leave when Itachi piped up, "Naru, have you ever had red hair?"
Laughing suddenly, Naruto nodded, "Yeah, my mother dyed it the same colour as hers when I was a kid to prank my father."
Sasuke's head immediately shot up, the dots starting to connect in his mind. "That promise you made, did you make it to an Alpha when you were a child while your hair was red?"
"Ah…. yeah," Naruto answered, looking at the Alpha curiously. "Why?"
"Did you promise to save yourself for that Alpha?" He asked with near desperation in his voice. "Because you said that Alpha had the most amazing smell?"
"Yes!" Naruto answered again, sitting up in his bed and leaning towards the young raven Alpha. "Are you that Alpha?" He questioned with an almost wistful hope.
Biting his lip, Sasuke nodded, completely lost for words at realising the Omega he'd promised himself to was actually the Omega he'd been avoiding in fear of breaking his promise.
A choked sob fell from the Omega's mouth suddenly, along with a string of apologies. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry Sasuke, but I couldn't keep myself pure for you. I had sex with someone during my last heat and fell pregnant to them." He whimpered.
Walking over to the distraught blond Omega, Sasuke enveloped him in a hug. "Shhhh," he hushed, "It's okay. I feel the same way." He began to rock the both of them gently as the Omega clung to him. "I fell into a rut a few months back and had sex with an Omega too."
At this, Itachi began to laugh, making angry eyes turn to the older raven. Itachi quickly put his hands up in defence, a grin still present on his face. "Sasuke, think about it. Just over five months ago, you came back to base smelling faintly of an Omega in heat."
At that moment, Sakura walked in with a baby swaddled in a blue blanket with black hair poking out the top. "Good, you're awake," Sakura beamed, "Bub's hungry," she said, handing the newborn to Naruto. "You remember how I told you to feed him?" She asked.
"Yep." Naruto nodded, taking the small infant.
"As I thought," Itachi mused. "Sasuke, this child is yours."
Looking closer at the baby, Sasuke could see several resemblances to him. The black hair was only the start. When Naruto pulled some of the blanket down, ivory skin was revealed and more of the baby's scent filled the room. Instantly his instincts told him the child was his.
"Did you know, an Alpha can always tell if a child is theirs by scent alone?" Sakura said with a laugh just as Sasuke started to become territorial of Itachi being too close to the blond as said blond shed his shirt to feed the fussing baby.
"So we both kept our promises then?" Naruto laughed, getting himself comfortable as bub began to suckel.
"I guess so," Sasuke whispered, drawing closer to the Omega and glaring at his brother till the older Alpha took the hint and backed away, averting his eyes.
"Well, since you are the Alpha I promised myself to, I think I could stay," the blond said with an amused smile. "But If I'm going to do so, I'll need to go back to my place to get the remainder of my things." He mused.
"Anything if it will keep you by my side." Sasuke answered, snuggling into the soft scent of the Omega he'd been looking for.
