All Turns to Yesterday

"Let's do this again sometime."
Momoe blinked, snapping out of her own thoughts. Kaoru walked up to the front of her, sitting on the park bench. She wondered if Kaoru knew how she felt about him, as if the two of them weren't already diving right into a new relationship.
Kaoru was different from anyone else who had a crush on Momoe; he saw her as a girl, just as Momoe saw him as a boy.
There would always be pushback from those who couldn't understand, and those who just wouldn't accept it. What the naysayers felt and said didn't matter, not anymore.
Momoe was who she was.
Kaoru was who he was.
They were who they wanted to be, their true selves, and that was enough.
Momoe hesitated to get out of her seat, but she noticed the glimmer of amusement in Kaoru's kind eyes, his hand stretched out to her. The tiredness and anxiety began to melt away, and she stood up on her own two feet.
Momoe smiled at Kaoru and nodded slightly, taking his hand.
"I'd really like that."
(A/N: This was my first time writing for Wonder Egg Priority, so forgive me if there are some character inconsistencies. Also, this is only the second time I've worked with writing a trans character, the first one being Alluka Zoldyck from Hunter x Hunter, so if I'm at all out of line when it comes to anything in this fic, please, let me know.)
