Chapter 8- Dyllan, Conner, and Angel

Dyllan POV

Dyllan sighed as she left Michael's house, pulling her sandy blonde waves over her left shoulder as she did so. What was Hannah thinking? Taking her to Michael's house? It didn't matter to her that they were both going to Angeles because of the Selection. He was there for Princess Sara's Selection and she was there for Payton's.

Why had she even signed up for the Selection in the first place? Did she really think that she had a chance with Payton Schreave? Maybe. But why? Sending in her portfolio had been an impulse decision. Would they even get along?

She never really got along with people when she first met them, she was guarded and didn't trust easily. Funnily enough, that was actually Michael's fault. He had befriended her and then threw that friendship right back at her face years later. What kind of person felt that they were required to be someone else's friend? What a harsh thing to say, especially to a girl.

Dyllan had no hope that Payton would be the man she would marry. She knew from the Report viewings that he was nice and professional, but maybe that was just when he had the eyes of the people on him. Maybe, when he was in private he was a jerk, just like Michael was. Just like Michael always had been behind his nice guy facade.

Her mind was already made up that the Prince was just acting for the camera, how could she constantly trust a face that was in front of the camera?

"Hey, Dyllan!" Dyllan turned her head to see her best friend hurrying towards her, an excited look in her light hazel eyes. "Are you excited?! You're going to meet the Prince soon!"

Dyllan scoffed, "I think you're more excited than I am Kylie. I'm not excited, for all we know, he could be a jerk in private."

Kylie smacked Dyllan lightly on the arm, a frown appearing on her face. "You have to give him a chance Lannie."

"Don't call me Lannie." Dyllan automatically said, but there was no annoyance in her voice. Kylie had been her best friend since grade school and had always called her Lannie. Deep down, Dyllan knew that the redhead would never stop. "Besides, it's true. Everyone in the Schreave family has to be polite and proper when in front of the public, we don't know what happens behind closed doors."

Kylie sighed, "Maybe. But give him a chance and don't push him away. Not every boy is Michael."

"Talking about Michael... did you know that Hannah dragged me over to his house so we could talk?" Dyllan sighed, shaking her head, "Just cause we've both been selected for the Prince and Princess for their Selections."

"Oh..." Kylie said, a thoughtful look on her face. "How'd it go?"

Dyllan shook her head again, a mix of annoyance and pain shooting through her, that always happened when she thought about Michael or saw him. "I walked away. He was mad that his family applied for the Selection without him knowing."

"Do you think it'll complicate things for you at the Palace?" Kylie questioned. "You know it's against the rules for the Selected to mingle with someone that's not the Princess or Prince." She looked genuinely worried for Dyllan's well being and it made her laugh.

You're talking about the guy who said he didn't think I was worth being friends with. I'm pretty sure that's his way of telling me he hates me. His being at the palace won't affect me at all." Dyllan said calmly, even though deep down she knew it was a lie. Michael is in his own Selection was going to make her life very difficult.

She just knew deep down that their time at the palace was going to be something she remembered for the rest of her life. The only question was if it was going to be a good or bad experience.

Conner POV

"Daddy! Daddy!" Conner looked up from the newspaper he was reading to see a small girl with dazzling bronze-colored hair and deep sky blue eyes run to him, tears in her large eyes.

"What's wrong Sweetie?" Conner asked, scooping the girl up into his arms and swinging her into the air, causing her to laugh.

"Are you really leaving?" His daughter, Amelia asked, tears once again appearing in her eyes as she pouted.

Conner sighed, running a hand through his own hair. "Yes. I have to leave for a couple of weeks but I'll always be thinking about you." Conner promised solemnly, hooking his pinky to hers when she stretched her own little pinky out for him.

"Why are you leaving?" Amelia asked.

"You're Daddy has to go on a business trip." A new voice spoke up, causing both man and toddler to glance up.

"Mommy!" Amelia said happily, reaching for her Mom, her grin almost splitting her face.

"Hello, honey." The Mom, Delia said. Delia had beautiful inky black hair and the same deep sky blue eyes as her daughter. "Ready for the Selection?"

Conner shrugged, "I'm surprised I haven't gotten a letter that says I'm already disqualified. The Schreave family must have gone over my selection packet by now. They know I have a daughter."

Claire nodded, "I don't understand either, but you should take this chance. If you somehow win Princess Sara's heart, you should get back into your family's good graces, right? Since you had Amelia with me out of wedlock? And it kinda broke the law?"

Conner winced at how cold that sounded. Yes, he saw this as a way to earn his family's forgiveness for having a child before marriage and becoming Princess Sara's husband would definitely help... but he couldn't really regret Amelia's birth either. That little girl was the light of his life.

"I'll probably get eliminated at the palace." Conner shrugged again, "It can't be helped. I'm just going because they haven't kicked me out yet."

Delia glared at him. "Just don't do anything to embarrass yourself more. And do not embarrass your daughter."

"I would never." Conner snapped. He would do everything in his power to protect his daughter. No matter what.

"Do your best on your business trip Daddy!" Amelia said happily, completely oblivious to the rest of the conversation.

Conner smiled at his daughter. "Don't worry, I will." He'd do whatever it takes to protect her, and having a Princess on his side would help.

Angel POV

"I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait!" A beautiful girl with golden-brown hair and hazel eyes was practically hopping all over her house, appearing at one end of the house before hurrying over to the other end in her excitement. "I can finally meet the Prince!"

"Angie, please calm down." Her Dad said, a mix of exasperation and amusement on his face. "You can't go yet."

"I know that." Angel huffed, rocking back and forth on her heels as she tried to keep herself in her place. "I just can't believe that out of all the girls in Panama I was chosen to do Prince Payton's selection. It's a dream come true."

She had always wanted to meet the Prince, he looked so handsome and charming on the report. She loved how he talked and she loved his style. She just knew that they would make a perfect pair.

"You should have seen my friends when they saw that I was chosen. Some of them looked jealous. I swear Anita was going to cry." Angel babbled on since she had nothing else to do. "Can you believe it?"

Once again, her Dad, Lucas sighed and her Mom, Isabel put a comforting hand on his back. "I know you're excited Sweetie, but can you reign in your excitement for a bit? You can't act like that when you're at the palace or with the Prince."

"Why not? We're perfect for each other, I can already tell that our looks are good together." Angel said. "If he doesn't like me as I am, then it's better that we aren't together."

"That's true." Her Dad nodded his head, a smile on his face, "But I believe that your mother is just trying to say that you're too energetic, he's the Prince, he may need time to get used to so much energy."

"Don't forget dramatic." Her brother, David smirked as he leaned against the wall. "She's extremely dramatic. You may want to curve that to Angie or you just might scare the Prince away."

Angel glared at her brother and was about to snap back at him when her Mom cut in again, giving both her husband and son a quick glare.

"What they are trying to say is that you should show the Prince that you have a kind and sweet side too, behind all that energy." Her Mom said.

Angel nodded. She would do everything to perfection. It's what she was best at. She just hoped that the Prince would be able to see how she really was underneath all her 'diva-ness' as her brother called it.

If Prince Payton was the man she thought he was then he wouldn't see the energetic, attention-seeking diva that David said she would and many saw her as. He would see her as the sweet and caring, intelligent woman that she actually was. The person her parents saw. She knew he would. They were perfect together.
