Chapter 19- Meet The Princess

Sara POV

Sara watched nervously as Payton made his way to the first of his Selected girls, a pretty blonde in a warm rosy pink colored dress that wrapped around her body. Who was she supposed to do now? She knew that Payton had been nervous but how could he have easily taken a breath and walk over to one of the girls so easily? It seemed a bit blasé to her.

"What are you waiting for?" Liam asked, looking at his Sister with amused chocolate brown eyes as he made his way back over to her with Evelyn slowly trailing behind him. It was strange that she wasn't attached to his arm as usual. "Payton's already on the move."

"I don't know who to talk to," Sara admitted, tugging at a bracelet around her wrist, why had she thought a Selection was a great idea? "Who do you think I should meet first?" She asked, turning to Evelyn, worry in her blue eyes.

Evelyn looked at the group of boys, her bright brown eyes narrowed thoughtfully, her silvery-blonde curls cascading over her right shoulder. "Go with your gut, Sara, just let your feet lead you, don't overthink."

"That's easy for you two to say," Sara said looking Liam and Evelyn over, they were the perfect couple. Her white-blonde hair complimented his dark hair and eyes and her bright brown eyes literally seemed to glow. The two of them were like light and dark. "You're perfect."

She noticed Liam frown slightly, as he and Evelyn exchanged quick looks, both looking uneasy. What was that about? She noticed it last night too, there was a distance between them and even Mom and Dad had seemed a bit disappointed when they looked at Evelyn and Liam last night? Were the perfect couple having a fight?

"Just go talk to one," Liam finally said, sounding way too insistent, "I want you to narrow down the pool of your suitors as quickly as possible so I can test my potential brother-in-law."

Sara rolled her eyes, but she knew that Liam was telling the truth. Once she was down to her Elite, he'd give all ten guys hell and look into their history as much as possible. "I'm moving, I'm moving." She finally said, walking past the perfect couple and heading towards her boys. Her blue eyes scanned the crowd and she noticed with a wince that Payton already seemed to be with his second or third girl, a girl with beautiful caramel hair. She really had to start moving.

She looked around one more time and saw a young man with his back towards her. That would be the first guy she spoke to. She took a deep breath and made her way towards him, wondering if she would be meeting her future husband in this group.

Theo POV

Theo laughed at something with two guys he had just met, Charles and Michael. They both seemed like good guys, but he had a feeling like Michael didn't want to be there.

"Sir Theoden?" A soft voice asked and Theo turned to see the Princess behind him, a soft smile on her face.

"Princess," Theo said, as he bowed to her, as did Michael and Charles. "It's a pleasure to meet you," He said as he stood back up, a confident smile on his face.

"And you," Princess Sara said, she glanced back at Michael and Charles before looking back up at Theo. "Would you mind walking with me?"

"Of course," Theo said, offering her his arm like he was thought to and walking to the edge of the tents. The two of them walked in comfortable silence before Princess Sara spoke.

"Sir Theoden, tell me about yourself." Sara said, gazing up at him with light blue eyes, "Something that wasn't on your form."

Theo thought for a bit, "Well, you can call me Theo, Princess, Theoden is a bit stifling to me. And something that's not on my form….. Well did I say that I was in a band?"

"Yes," The Princess said, "TDEA right? If I can be honest, when I saw that you were well known I listened to some of your music."

"Really?" Theo asked, feeling excitement build in him, he couldn't wait to tell his bandmates that Princess Sara listened to their music. "How'd you like it, Princess?"

"Please, call me Sara, you're letting me call you Theo," The Princess said before answering his question. "I liked it, the lead singer has a very nice voice. She's the only girl, right? And the name of your band is made up of all the first letters of your names?"

Theo nodded, glad that she was taking an interest in his band and music. "Yeah, TDEA, T for Theo, D for Dana, E for Eric and A for Ambrose. Dana is the singer, I played the drums in the band. Eric was the guitar player and Ambrose played the bass. We all met in boarding school and that's when we made the band."

Sara nodded, "I also watched some of your movies and shows. You were a really cute kid," She smiled when Theo blushed a bit, "You're really talented, but I've also seen videos of you with your band, you look so happy with them."

"Being with the band has probably been the best years of my life," Theo said sincerely, "They're like my second family. I'm not saying that I didn't like dressing up as a spy kid though. Or a kids genius who created a killer AI." He smiled at those memories. Those two were probably his most favorite movie roles.

"I liked you as the little brother in Roswell Creek, it's a classic TV show," Sara said.

Theo laughed, "I would not have pegged the Princess of Illéa a soap opera girl." He may have applied for the Selection as a getaway from his family and the pressure of their expectations. It was also a way for him to relax while his band got back together.

"I am." Sara said, looking slightly embarrassed, "But, you look happiest with your band, not acting, so why did you guys go into a hiatus?"

Theo paused, "Well we were kinda overwhelmed by the constant attention of the press," he began, "Also, you must know Dana, she's in a high-profile relationship with a Prince from the German Federation."

He saw Sara's eyes light up with understanding, "That's the Dana who's dating Prince Stefan? I've never met her before, but I know that Stefan is head-over-heels in love with her."

"Really?" Theo asked he had never met the Prince, but he knew that Dana loved him too. "That's good, but their relationship is one of the reasons why the band had to take a break. If they get married…"

"Then she can't be in your band because then she'll be a German Princess," Sara nodded. "That's understandable. Can I ask you how they met?"

"We did a world tour a year and a half ago, we had a concert in Dresden and the Prince was in the audience," Theo said. There was also another reason that the band had taken a break, but he didn't feel comfortable telling the Princess, it wasn't his story to tell.

"Well, I hope you play music again, I'd love to hear it in person," Sara said as they headed back to Michael and Charles. "Thank you for speaking with me."

"The pleasure is all mine, Princess," Theo smiled as he pulled away from her. He bowed to her one more time before she pulled Michael aside to talk to him.

"Dude," He turned to Charles, who had a slightly jealous look on his face, "How was the Princess? You're lucky that you're the first guy she talked to."

"She's nice and interesting," Theo said a smile still on his face. When he had first arrived, he had no idea what to expect, she had seemed like a charity worker and caring girl from the Report, he was glad to know that she had other interests as well.

Paul POV

Paul was relaxing under one of the tents with Hugo Rodriguez when Princess Sara came up to the two of them, a small confident smile on her face. "Princess Sara," He said as both he and Hugo stood up and bowed to her.

"Sir Paul, Sir Hugo, how is the party for you two?" She asked sweetly, hands folded neatly in front of her.

"The food is great," Hugo said excitedly and Princess Sara laughed, and how happy he sounded.

"It is, Sir Paul, would you care to take a walk?" Sara asked, looking at him with her blue eyes and he nodded.

He stood up and shot a glance at Hugo before giving Sara his arm. He noticed that Prince Payton was also walking around the perimeter of the party with a black-haired girl clinging to his arm. The Prince looked both annoyed and nervous.

"So, tell me about yourself Sir Paul," Sara said once they were out of ear-shot of the party.

"Well my parents are both well-known film directors, even though we're just threes, but we interact with a lot of twos," Paul said. "I also like fashion."

The Princess looked him over and he couldn't help but smile, he knew that his suit fits well and the dark gray of the suit made him look great, he knew fashion, so there was no way he'd look bad. He'd even seen some of the other guys and they looked like it was their first time wearing something so nice.

"I noticed," Princess Sara said, "You're probably one of the best-dressed guys here."

"Thank you, Princess," Paul smirked, he had to say that she looked very nice in her blue dress as well, he had noticed immediately that she had dressed to match Prince Payton. He also thought she matched him pretty well, they both were wearing blue and he thought that the fact they both had dark hair was a good thing.

"Is there anything else you like to do?" Sara asked him, curious.

"I like baseball and dancing," Paul said immediately, sounding as confident as he possibly could. "I also like doing dares."

"Dare?" The Princess asked sounding curious. She probably had never thought a dare could be a hobby. "How so?"

"Well, my friends and I always dare each to do ridiculous things. Mostly dates. And I was dared to enter the Selection." He said, but he immediately knew that was the wrong thing to say when he felt the Princess stiffen next to him.

"You're dared to date girls?" She asked slowly, her blue eyes narrowing on him and he did not like the look in her eyes. Why did he have to say that to the Princess? The girl he was supposed to try to court? Actually, why had he said he'd entered the Selection on dare?! It was the truth, but now he was afraid of what she'd do.

Paul felt himself fidget a bit, "Princess I-" He was cut off when the Princess spoke over him.

"I think it's best if we head back to your table," Princess Sara said, her toned neutral.

Paul nodded and headed back to the table where Hugo was sitting by himself. "I'm sorry if I offended you, Princess."

The Princess nodded, "You didn't offend me Sir Paul," She began, "And I think you're nice and confident but you have to understand that this is my life, I'm supposed to marry one of you. I'm not happy to hear that you only entered on a dare."

"Of course Princess," Paul said, he stopped, forcing the Princess to stop with him before they could reach the tent, "But I do want to be here. This may have started as a dare, but I do want to know you since I'm here."

The look in the Princess' eyes softened, but her tone was still guarded when she spoke next, "We'll have to see." She continued walking and Paul was forced to follow.

He knew he messed up just a bit and hoped that the Princess would give him another chance. When he reached the table, Hugo's eyes widened and he quickly bowed to the Princess again.

"Sir Hugo, join me for a walk," Princess Sara said, and even Paul could tell that the tone was more of a demand than before.

"Yes, Princess," Hugo said, hastily offering her his arm and the two of them were walking away before Paul could even blink.

Great. Paul thought as he sat down again, he had upset one of the most powerful people in the country. He just hoped that there was no punishment for acting on dares.

Hugo POV

Hugo looked nervously at the Princess as they walked away from Paul, she had tried to hide it but he was always good at reading people. She had not looked too pleased with Paul and she wondered what he had done to upset her in less than five minutes.

"Tell me about yourself," Princess Sara said after a moment, looking at him with intense blue eyes and he gulped a bit.

"Well," Hugo gave her a sheepish smile, "I'm known as the class-clown because I always joke around and want to make people laugh, I also have a really big sweet tooth."

"A sweet tooth?" Princess Sara asked, looking at him, "You don't look like a guy who likes sweets."

Hugo ran a hand through his blackish-brown hair, wincing when he realized that he had messed up the style his butlers had worked on. "My Mom owns a sugar plantation." He said nervously, looking at Princess Sara closely, wondering if she had heard about it. He would be surprised if she hadn't because of the bad publicity it had gained because of his Dad.

"I see," Princess Sara said a slight smile forming on her mouth, "I don't have the biggest sweet tooth, but I'll eat dessert if it's served. I especially hate chocolate."

Hugo gave her a disbelieving look, "What kind of girl hates chocolate?" He asked, unable to fathom what she just said. "Do all royals, not like chocolate your Highness?"

Princess Sara's smile grew and Hugo could tell that her mood had already brightened. "No, my sisters love chocolate. And please, you can call me Sara."

"Sara," Hugo tasted the name on his tongue and found that he liked calling the Princess her name with no titles attached, "What sweets do you like then?"

Sara paused, "I like fruit desserts, it brings some freshness to the sweetness of it. So I guess, fruit tarts, pies and desserts like that. Anything else I should know about you?"

"Well…. I play football," Hugo said, "I'm in the linebacker position, and it's great, getting nice and sweaty with a bunch of other guys is my favorite past-time." He laughed at the look on Sara's face, it was a mix of intrigue and confusion, as if she wasn't sure what he was talking about.

"I don't know football either, Payton and Liam love sports, but I've never been able to do any sports. Leandra accidentally kicked a soccer ball into my face when I was younger."

"I read and also cook," Hugo said, feeling like they wouldn't get anywhere on the sports front. He should have guessed that she didn't do sports. Maybe they'd find common ground on those two things; if there was anything that he was certain about, it was that Sara was an extremely smart and calculating young woman.

"I read too," Sara smiled, "I read about politics and world history. We live in an era where the powers of the world are shifting and there's still unrest in Illéa itself. We should know our history so that we don't repeat the mistakes of the past." She said with absolute conviction, "I also read up about all the charities I can find and which ones need the most money so I can get my parents to donate more money to those causes."

Hugo stared at her stunned, he knew that the Princess did a lot of charity work, but never in a million years did he think she researched different charities. He was ashamed to admit that he believed she did charity work because her parents wanted her to. "That's a lot of effort."

Sara nodded, "I know that the Northern rebels have died out, but there are still the southern rebels and they attack the palace and the people of Illéa much too frequently. They say that there is still injustice in our country and despite my Dad's best efforts, there is. But the rebels are wrong to use bloodshed and violence, there will be no peace or equality achieved by those means."

Hugo mutely nodded, what could he say to that? But at the same time, he was completely in awe. This Princess was one of the most inspiring people that he had ever met.

"We're out of time," Sara said, snapping Hugo out of his thoughts.

"Oh," Hugo said, trying to hide his disappointment as they made their way back to his table, he saw a couple of guys had joined Paul but none of them took notice of him or the Princess.

"We should talk again," Sara said pulling away, but there was a happy smile on her face as she looked at him.

"I'd love to Sara," Hugo smiled. He bowed to her again and she left him standing a few feet from the tent, his heart beating fast in his chest. He always thought that everyone would judge him unfairly because of what his Dad had done eight years ago, but finally, he met someone who he believed would never judge him for his Dad's past. The Princess has fully won him over.

Adam POV

"I'm telling you, man, the Princess is extremely hot," A young man with curly light brown hair and darker eyes said, excitedly.

Adam only chuckled before taking a sip of his wine. The other guy was Grant Wilson, and he had already talked to the Princess, but he didn't think he'd be staying with the way he was talking about the Princess. "Anything else about her?" Adam asked, meeting his dark brown eyes.

Grant shrugged as he stuffed some sushi into his mouth and Adam winced. Grant had said he was a three, yet he ate with the worst manners Adam had ever seen. He knew for a fact that he had met sixes, sevens, and eights who had much better manners than Grant did.

"She's pretty. That's all I paid attention to. Well, that and that she's a Princess." Grant said before swallowing quickly.

Adam was about to say something when he noticed the Princess herself approach them from behind Grant. He was about to warn Grant but the guy opened his mouth again just as Princess Sara entered hearing distance for what he was about to say.

"The Princess is definite arm candy," Grant said, "When we're married I think I'll have her dress in much tighter fitting dresses."

Adam glanced at him before looking over his shoulder at the Princess, eyes widening when she saw the livid look on her face. "Ah, Man, I think you should shut up. Like right now."

Grant snorted, "No one is paying attention to us. Besides, they'll soon learn that there's a food chain in this Selection and those on top like me will be the Prince,"

"I doubt that," Grant almost choked on his sushi roll when Princess Sara spoke directly from behind him. He swung back around to look at the Princess with wide eyes while Adam stood up from his chair and bowed.

"Princess," He said softly glancing up to see that Grant was still in his chair a smirk on his face. The idiot.

"There's no need to bow, Adam, she's not the next Ruler," Grant said, smirking confidently as he looked at the Princess up and down. "What's up, Babe?"

Sara glared at him, "What's up," Sara began in an extremely cold voice that sent shivers down Adam's back, "is that after dinner, you can go back into your room and pack your bags. You're leaving in the morning."

Grant gaped, open-mouthed at her but before he could say anything to make the situation worse, Princess Sara turned to Adam, "Would you mind escorting me around the grounds?"

"Of course," Adam said, offering her his arm quickly and leading her away while Grant spluttered behind them. "I'm sorry about him." He immediately said to the Princess.

Princess Sara shook her head, letting out a deep sigh, "He was no better when we talked earlier. Even if I hadn't heard all about what he said about me, he'd still be going home. But enough about Sir Grant, tell me about yourself, Sir Adam."

Adam blinked a bit surprised that she could change gears so fast, "Well I'm from Lakedon and I like to fish and hunt."

"That's an interesting choice of hobbies," Princess Sara said looking at him curiously. "Why?"

Adam shrugged, "It's more a way of survival, I think. My dad left after my brother was born because he had autism, because of that my Mom has to work in a high-end restaurant from early morning to late at night. We know the cost of food, by hunting and fishing myself, food is one of the things we don't have to worry about buying. And if I have a good hunt or fishing trip that day then I usually sell the rest in the market."

The Princess looked surprised by all he revealed and part of himself wondered why he had told her all that too. Maybe it was the fact that she had an aura about her that made him want to trust her. And despite all of Grant's horrible flaws, he did have a point; the Princess was extremely beautiful. She had skin a shade or two above olive, rich dark hair and gentle blue eyes.

Part of him wondered where she got her traits from, he knew her parents both had lighter features instead of darker.

"Your Father left because your brother is autistic?" Princess Sara asked, a note of disgust in her voice, "How could a father do that?"

Adam shrugged, "I was young when it happened. My Dad is a proud man, he couldn't stand the thought that something was wrong with his son."

"There's nothing wrong with your brother," Sara said, sounding extremely intense, "Everyone is born differently, and they are born in the best way possible and grow up into the best person that they can possibly be. It's when we treat others like they're freaks or different that they end up turning into bad adults."

Adam didn't respond for a moment, the Princess was definitely more than a hot piece of meat like Grant had described her as. She was extremely smart and dedicated to her beliefs from what he gathered, but she was also a bit naive.

"Sorry," The Princess blushed when she realized all she said. I get a bit sensitive when it comes to mistreatment."

"It's okay," Adam said, he wished there were more people like her. People who thought equality was the most important thing.

"Is there anything else you like to do?" Princess Sara asked after a moment of silence.

"I like watching movies, especially with my brother, his name is James. His favorite movies are action movies."

"I think action movies have a bit too much useless violence." Sara said, "It gives real people reasons to act violently."

"I like comedy movies myself," Adam admitted, "And the occasional romance," He winked at her and gave himself an internal fist bump when she blushed. "I also cook, that is one thing my Mom definitely made sure I knew how to do."

"You'll have to cook for me sometime," Sara said, giving him a sweet smile.

Adam smiled back, "Whatever you would like Princess."

"Call me Sara," she said, a small blush appearing again on her face, "And we're out of time."

Adam bowed and feeling a shot of courage go through him, he gently kissed her hand when he came back up, "I'll cook for you next time, Sara."

"You better," Sara said, her face completely red as she turned to walk away from him. "Have a good rest of the night Sir Adam."

Anthony POV

Anthony was laughing with a group of guys when he felt someone gently tap his shoulder. He turned around and stared directly into the Princess' pretty blue eyes. "Sir Anthony, would you mind taking a walk with me?"

"Of course Princess," Anthon said, immediately walking away from the tents with her and to the outskirts of the lawn. He had seen the Prince and Princess do so with so many selected boys and girls that he just moved to where he knew others wouldn't overhear their conversation. It was clear that they wanted to get to know each and every Selected one at a time.

"Tell me about yourself," Princess Sara said after a moment of just walking, she looked calm and steady, but he wondered how tired she actually was; she had talked to so many guys already.

"Well I'm never by myself, I always seem to have a group of friends around me and I'm thankful for that."

Sara smiled a bit, "That's nice, being a Princess, I'm usually so isolated, I don't see big groups like this unless it's a ball of some sort."

"That must be pretty lonely," Anthony said he didn't think he'd be able to be isolated because he was royalty.

Sara shrugged, "I have my family and I do have a few friends. What about your family?"

Anthony paused, "Well I was adopted when I was a boy, I don't actually know my birth family." He smiled then, "But the family that took me in, well, they are the best."

"What are they like Sir Anthony?" Sara asked, a smile on her face, she looked genuinely excited to hear about his family.

Anthony thought about his family and he couldn't help but smile, "Well I have two dads." He paused after that, studying Sara's face intensely if she couldn't accept that he came from a two-dad home then he would leave tonight. He'd never tolerate anyone who would cause his family harm.

Sara smiled at that, eagerness in her eyes, "Tell me more about them. What are their names?"

"Well, their names are Gary and David. They are the best men you could ever hope to meet, they always donate to charities whenever they can and give to the less fortunate, even when they might need it. Gary is a doctor and David is a screenwriter." Anthony said, the admiration clear in his voice. "I also have a younger brother that's also adopted, his name is Diego and he's eighteen. He actually sent in a form too, you should have seen the look on his face when my name was announced."

"Well, I'm told I'm a bit of a handful and can be slightly overbearing." Sara joked, "You should tell him so he doesn't feel too bad."

"You don't seem like either to me, Princess," Anthony said honestly. "You look extremely calm."

Sara laughed, "Just you wait, in a day or two, you'll see what kind of nightmare I can be. Maybe in a few hours if you talk to my brothers. Also, please call me Sara."

Anthony beamed, "I go by Tony by my friends and family."

"Tony it is then," Sara said, she looked at him curiously then, "I read on your form that you work for the circus. Is that true?"

Tony laughed, "Yeah, I am a performer at the circus. I'm always riding the unicycle and juggling torches in the air. Sometimes I do magic tricks." He added as an afterthought.

Sara winced at that, "I haven't been to the circus, I'm kinda curious about circuses, though. Julia is afraid of clowns, so is Liam." She smirked.

Tony grinned, "If he ever annoys you we can sneak a clown into his room."

"I'm holding you to that promise." Sara said sternly before bursting into giggles, she looked to the side before frowning slightly, "We're out of time. It was nice to meet you, Tony."

"You too Princess," Tony said, bowing to her before she walked away and headed towards a different guy. He watched her leave and felt his heart skip a bit, she was an extremely pretty girl. She just hoped she gave him a chance.
