Prologue

The rain fell hard as if it tried to close Kory's eyes so she'd be protected from the doomed scenery before her.

The man she loved was dead.

She wished for the water to dissolve her body as it did with the precious blood leaking from his body into the gutter. But all it did was root her in place like a heavy shroud.

In the midlist of the fight with Jason, a bullet too many couldn't be dodged. Just like that. Over the tiniest bit of ordinary metal and gunpowder Dick Grayson was no more.

She had travelled so far to meet him. They had been through so much in such a little period even though it felt like a lifetime.

But now it was over, and she didn't even get to say goodbye. He'd never know that she loved him.

Thanks to her species physiology, few were the moments in which she truly felt out of breath, and never before had her lungs been so empty. Koriand'r chocked, and that seem to jolt her brain, reminding that she was capable of movement. And with motion came everything else.

The rain couldn't mask the wails of despair of the people all around the battlefield, and it only increased the sting of the cuts and bruises her ruined armour were not capable to protect her. But even in a Gotham taken by fear, Gar's screams for Rachel's name picked her attention, and her eyes were forced to leave the inert form of her dead lover on the ground to seek her children. When she found them, a tidal wave of fear crashed over the emptiness threatening to consume her.

Rachel was taken by the Darkness.

Her small body ascended, held suspended in the air by the arbitrary blackness surrounding her, Kory ran in the girl's direction, shouting and screaming for her to calm down, to fight for control, to not give in. But Kory knew to the marrow of her bones that Rachel was gone too, and it was her fault. Dick was dead and Rachel would destroy the world. Everything Kory had done since she left Tamaran was a mistake, a mistake that the whole universe would have to pay.

Kory threw herself into the black hurricane, screaming, now in pain, as she hit the wall of blades-like things. The futility of her actions waited no time to become evident as her body was violently pushed away, not even scratching the barrier surrounding the Raven. Kory was saved from colliding into the pavement by Donna.

A portal opened in the firmament.

That was it. Where all her bad choices lead. Under the crushing fist of the destroyer of worlds because she enjoyed playing ordinary free human for a while.

A humanoid frame plunged from the supernatural slit in the fabric of reality like a fallen angel.

And then, Rachel also fell. Silence descended over them, as if the whole world dropped dead. Even the rain was gone.

The man stood up, because it was a man and not a demon, at least it didn't look like one, as much Kory was aware that looks could be deceiving.

He locked eyes to Rachel, and letting a murderous wail, ran towards her, weapon in hand.

Without thinking or planning, Kory unravelled herself from Donna's grip and threw herself between the attacker and the girl she once was sent to murder, but instead decided to put under her wing forever.

The weapon was blunt, and she screamed when its familiar electrical current took her body. Anger was replaced by fear and shock in those brown eyes that even framed by overgrown dirty hair, grim and rain she'd always recognize.

"Kory?" Askes a voice moments ago she was certain she would never hear again.

Rage moves her body automatically, her fist crashed against his face. The pretender's body topples down first on his knees then dirty bloodied face hit the ground.

So, the script for this story was written before the end of the third season, Dick's death (I wanted to kill him myself lmao) and Kory's flashback. I might use bits of the canon yet to come if I like it, but here between us, hard chance.

I'm very excited! It has been a while since I took a big project like this. Can't wait to read what you guys think, and all your theories!

See you soon.
