-Next day-
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Refreshing Morning)
I boarded the train wearing my uniform that the Academy gave me. I recalled the test they made me done but I'm glad I can finally go to a school. Sort of. But who cares!? Anyway, while I was taking my seat, It wasn't my first time boarding an Orbal Train. But master suggest teleporting to Heimdallr. I don't know why but, oh well. There were not many people it seems. Maybe because I'm in a different cart? Well the seat is comfy, to say the least. Oh. I should check on everything. Let's see. When I got this uniform. I also receive this odd device. I seem a small description saying ARCUS. With it is a cover of Thor's Military Academy. But if i look closely. There's also a logo saying RF. The words are small but it said Reinford. I wonder what does the academy look like. And I also place my Glaive on the side on the wall to prevent anyone from getting hurt by it. Since I read the Guidebook that a weapon is required. And so here I am. According to what Master said to me. The Academy is located in Trista.
-25 minutes later-
I was looking at the window, looking at things we passed by. Eventually, a jingle sounded over the intercom, grabbing my attention.
"We are now arriving at...Trista. When disembarking, please ensure no belongings are left behind," said a female voice.
"Well, I guess that's my cue!" I said as I took hold of my Glaive. Once the train entered the station and came to a complete stop, I stood up and moved with the rest of the uniformed teenagers to exit the train.
(Trails of Cold steel Ost - Suburban Tower of Trista)
As I arrived. I look around this town called Trista. Trista from the outset looked rather small, but that did little to dampen its welcoming atmosphere. There were various shops with signs posted on the buildings all placed around a little park with benches and flowers in it. Upon further inspection, I saw that there were lino flowers growing on the trees surrounding the park.
"Woooow. I've never seen this many bloom in one place," I remarked to myself.
I moved on from the park and noticed a giant building far off in the distance. Judging from its size, that must be the academy.
"So that must be Thors Military Academy… How exciting." I respond cheerfully as flowers surround me. I begin to head forward as the flowers disappeared from my head.
As I moved onward, I took note of the people I walked by. The various locals who weren't dressed in uniform all seemed to know each other, as the adults were casually talking amongst each other and the children were running around and playing with each other.
'Ahh what a lovely place… It's uncharted territory for me. Finally… for so long…' I smiled at the thought.
Then I then see the other students make their way to the academy were mostly wearing green jackets, and some also started seeing some who were wearing white clothes as well. Hold on... White... and Green? I should look at the Guidebook again. Plus… I don't think I have seen anyone else with my uniform.
'Wow. This place is amazing. Ooh… I really want to explore this town… but I had to head to the entrance exam.' I thought.
I then soon arrived At last at the entrance to the academy, where I took a moment to look at my surroundings.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Refreshing Sunlight)
'Wow… this place is huge… So… where do I go?'
I look at the main school building, a large two-story structure with a belfry in the middle. More trees with lino flowers were planted in front of the building. To the left of the main building was what seemed to be an auditorium, as the students that came through the front gates were all motioned to make their way over there.
'And there's my answer.'
Just as I was about to follow the crowd-
"Excuse me! You there in the red jacket!"
I turned to the direction of the voice. Walking towards her were two people, one a chubby boy wearing yellow clothes and goggles and the other a petite girl with brown hair wearing the green Thors uniform and holding a clipboard and pencil in her hands.
"Hi! Welcome to Thors Military Academy," said the smaller girl. "We're handling the check-ins for the students in red, so could you tell us your name?"
"Oh." I replied. "My name is Levi Sullivan."
"Levi…" The girl look at her clipboard and then smiled. "Yep. Got you here. You're the second to arrived."
"Second? As in the second student to arrive in this uniform as you said?"
"Right." The girl smiled
"Is that your weapon you've got there, Levi?" asked the chubby boy, "If so, I'll need to hold on to that for the time being."
"Oh, that's right. It did mention that in the Guide book." I said as I handed my wrap Glaive chubby boy.
"Thanks. We should be able to return it to you before long. You'll hardly even miss it."
"And with that, you're successfully checked in!" The petite girl gave a thumbs up. "The entrance ceremony is going to be held in the auditorium where the other students are going, so go out there and have a good first day at Thors!"
"Will do!" I respond cheerfully. "But before that, is it okay if I ask a question first?"
"If it's about which class you're in or why you're wearing a red jacket, then I'm afraid we can't say much right now," said the petite girl apologetically. "However, I promise that once the opening ceremony is over, there will be time for you to ask questions to a designated expert, so could you hold on tight until then?"
"Okay, I understand. Thanks you." I smiled and bow and then ran off to the auditorium.
As soon as I arrived. He begin to see a seat. And then I begin to take a seat.
'An auditorium… so this is where the entrance Ceremony.
-As time flies-
(Trails of Cold Steel - At the Imperial Palace.)
"'Arise, O youth, and become the foundation of the world.'"
After a few minutes of waiting in my seat. I see a number of students wearing green and white uniforms. Wonder what is that about. But anyway, the academy's Principal Vandyck, a tall, broad-shouldered man with matching gray hair and facial hair, recited the school's mandate as part of his welcoming speech.
"Though much has happened these past two and a quarter centuries, the world is still the domain of the young. Yet the question still remains…" The principal paused briefly for dramatic effect. "What qualities must one possess to become a part of its foundation?" As he said, The air in the auditorium turned serious as the principal let the question hang in the air. A few moments later, however, he gave a reassuring smile to the new students. "I hope this credo will serve as a guide and an inspiration to you during your two years at this academy. Go forth, my students. The world awaits the great things you will one day accomplish." With those closing words, the room roared with applause.
'The youth shall become the foundation of the world,' I recounted the words in my mind. 'Those are certainly words to live by.'
After this, one of the teachers announced that students will be gathering to their assigned classes as specified in their notebook. The students wearing green jackets and the ones wearing white jackets all got up and exited the auditorium in an orderly fashion. But as for those who were wearing red jackets...
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Suburban Town od Trista)
"The class designated in our guidebook?" asked a boy with red-orange hair. "I don't remember seeing anything like that…"
The black-haired boy standing next to him shook his head. "There wasn't any information on that in mine, either. I just assumed they'd tell us where to go after the ceremony."
Oh yeah. I see those two boys wearing the same uniform as I am. Not only that. They do have a point. As I look around. I see, There are 5 males and 4 girls. Since I'm a guy, that makes it six boys wearing uniforms.
"All riiiiiiight! Students in red uniforms, can I have your attention please?"
A new voice was heard. Me and the other red uniform students turn their attention towards the one teacher that was still here, she was a good looking woman with pink hair and a good smile.
"By now, you're probably all confused. 'Where's MY class assignment?', you're probably thinking." She said. "That's perfectly understandable. Your situation is a little more complicated than the other students. But before I explain, I'd like all of you to join me for a special orienteering exercise."
'Special orienteering exercise? What does she mean by that?' I thought as I turn and see my fellow red uniform students muttering. And some look nervous with each other? Hmm… if I had to guess…' "Um, if I had to guess… we're doing an exercise where we learn to break the ice with each other, basically?" I asked as I title my head.
Then the woman seemed impressed of my guesses. "My, you catch on quick. Now then, right this way if you would." She walked out of the auditorium.
'I guess I was right on the mark?' I thought as I turn and notice the fellow red uniform students were hesitant as they all looked at each other. 'So it is like that. Master did mention that a school is a place to meet new people. I did that back during Sunday school. So it's the same thing. That aside, I am wondering about my class assignments. And what does she mean by "complicated than other students?" Now I'm even more curious! Well, the only way to find out is to follow her. I should do something to encourage my fellow red uniform students'.
And so I got up from the chair and follow the female instructor. But as I reach the door, I turn around and look at my fellow red uniform students. I look at them with a smile as I tilt my head a little to the left.
"Well, there's no point if we will just stand here. If we want answers, we have to follow her, am I right?" I said with a smile as I exited the building. After taking a couple of steps away from the auditorium, I looked back to see that the other students wearing red were following me. I couldn't help but smile and snickered at the thought of me playing follow-the-leader and started picking up the pace to catch up to the instructor. Soon came to see an old rundown building that appeared to be an old schoolhouse.
'Huh? I sense power coming from this building. Otherworldly power…'
Meanwhile, the female instructor walked up to the front door and started humming to herself like there wasn't a care in the world. She brought out a key and started fiddling with the door.
"What does she even want us to do here?" the blond-haired girl asked to no one in particular.
A green-haired boy wearing glasses looked like he was a few breaths away from fuming. "Is she ever going to tell us what's going on?!"
Judging from her humming, she seemed to enjoy us looking confused. At last, she unlocked the door to the old schoolhouse, and she casually walking in.
We were left speechless for a few moments.
"I suppose we'll have to go inside and see for ourselves what awaits us." The girl with long blue hair tied into a ponytail finally spoke up.
'While I'm very curious about this building. I also sense presences… one magical one… and the other are two… but the two from a distance. i think I sense more are coming' I thought.
I turn and looks over at a nearby cliff to see the girl and a guy looking down.
'Huh? Who are they, but not just them' Then I turn towards the bushes to my left. I spotted a black cat. 'A cat? Ah… this presence… Does that mean this cat here is a familiar? From Erebonia's Hexen Clan? What it's doing here? No… Not only that. I sense another magical presence from earlier too. Oh shoot! No time! Better hurry up!' And then I ran inside the old building.
(? POV)
I see that Levi enter the school building. But I decided to change the scene to Where Crow and the others are.
"I'm surprised he was able to sense us." The leather-clad girl mentions. "Someone definitely has some sharp senses."
"You're telling me." Said the Bandanna guy
"Too bad he's a boy. He's got a handsome face, I'll give him that."
Oh Angelica. Back to him.
(Levi POV)
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - The Mysterious Old Schoolhouse)
"The name's Sara Valestein," said the female instructor once all the students were inside the old schoolhouse. She was standing off to the side on a higher platform, which gave her a sense of authority over the clueless masses. "I'm the instructor in charge of Class VII, which means you get the pleasure of seeing me all year. Glad to finally meet you!"
I said as I waved with a smile. "Nice to meet you too."
"Hang on," said the green-haired boy with glasses. "Did you just say 'Class VII'?"
The boy with red-orange hair looked around at the other teenagers. "U-us?"
The girl with long blue hair put her hand on her chin. "I'm not sure I understand. I wasn't told anything about this at enrollment."
'Huh… now that they mention it. I look at the student Guidebook and it said there are five classes split based on their social class and home region.' I thought.
"E-excuse me, Instructor Sara?" asked a girl with braided brown hair and glasses. "I was under the impression that there were only five classes at this academy and that students were split among them based on their social class and home region."
"Correct you are, Ms. Second Top Scorer on the Thors entrance exam!"
"Any idea who the first is?" The green haired boy asks.
"Him." She points to me with a wink. "That's Mr. Top Scorer."
'Really? I'm the top scorer?! Guess all that study paid off.' I thought as I couldn't help but feel proud of myself.
"You're the top scorer?" He questions indignantly.
"You got a problem with it?" I asked with an eyebrow. 'What's up with this guy? Is he… jealous?'
"No, of course not. I was just..."
"Not expecting that?"
"Yes. That's it."
"Well I'm more than just a pretty face, mind you." I said as I place my arms over my neck "There are a lot of people who has high H.Q by studying."
"Well… I guess that's true."
"Now then. Back to where we left off." The female instructor said as she got our attention. "Students in each year are divided into five classes: two for the nobility, and three for commoners. And it's been that way for ages…" Instructor Sara paused for dramatic effect. "Right up through last year. But this year, we decided to shake things up a little." This elicited a few mumbles from the students. "We now have a sixth class," the female instructor continued. "Fittingly titled 'Class VII.' In this class, we recognize no distinction between nobles and commoners."
"Wait…" said the black-haired boy. "You just jumped straight from V to VII?"
"Y-you're really putting nobles and commoners in the same class?" reiterated the blond-haired girl.
'So this is a classroom with combine social class of Nobles and commoners. So that explains the red uniform.' I thought.
"This must be some kind of joke!" yelled an irate voice. It came from the bespectacled boy with green hair. "And why is this the first I've heard of it?!"
Sara turned to the bespectacled boy. "Well, uh… errr…" The female instructor tapped her finger to her head trying to recall the student's name. "Sorry, who were you again?"
"Machias Regnitz!" said the bespectacled boy. "And with all due respect, Instructor, it's ludicrous to intermix nobles and commoners like this! Must I be forced to spend my next two years shoulder to shoulder with those arrogant, stuck-up hedonists?!"
'Well he does have a point with many nobles are putrid. And many had died as punishment for their behavior.' I thought. 'And I'm guessing while he's arguing with the teacher. He must have a personal reason to hate the nobles in this country. Then again, it's clear since I've seen many nobles are topical. Many don't hold the Noblesse oblige code. As much as I want to argue at this point. There are still many questions that needed to be answered.'
"Um, excuse me." I turn to the glasses boy name Machias as I waved to get his attention.
"What? I'm in the middle of an argument."
"I can understand your distrust of the nobility. But I don't think this was the Instructor's decision to make. Also, there are questions that need to be answered. So you wouldn't mind holding down the complaint for a bit? Plus, I'm sure there aren't many bad nobles out there, right?" I ask kindly with a smile
"Ha! What a naive way of thinking." Machias scoff at me.
"Excuse me?" I was offended by that as I look mad.
"Nobles are stuck-up hedonists! They are too proud and laze around in their status to do anything. And their arrogant, all care about their names and wealth. They have no sense of honor and respect for the common folk!"
"Well I don't deny some part of your words are true… even they are a bunch of petty statuses" I said as I sighed. "However, if I had to guess. There are possible nobles among us. If you haven't noticed, do you hear any of them complaining?"
"Well, no-"
"Then can I ask you to hold your complaint so we can ask our Instructor about this situation of this classroom? We won't be going anywhere if you keep complaining. That is all I ask."
"Ask?! You mean order, did you?!" And then he looks piss off. "Who the hell do you think you are? You're probably another haughty noble who believes they can come in and just order us, commoners, around, don't you?!"
"Okay, first of all. No. I never said order. All I did was ask. And Second. I'm not one of those typical nobles. Heck, even I don't know if I'm one or not."
"Don't act dumb! All of you damn nobles are the same! Spouting about what's right and wrong takes away from the less fortunate as everything is handed to you! You don't know the meaning of hard work, do you?!"
"Okay, there are two things I need you to understand," I said as I felt a tick on my forehead. Now guy is just trying to piss me off now. "One. I do know the value of hard work. I been doing that my whole life. Two: What makes you think I'm a noble?" I repeats with crossed arms. "Is it the way I stopped you from making a long rant?"
"Well that's…! That's…"
"Hm. I thought so. Let me tell you something." I says. "Regardless of whether I'm a noble or a commoner, I'm not going to just stand by when someone like you gives people who are just doing their jobs a hard time. I get you hate the nobility, but this isn't the right time for you to spiel over why you hate nobles."
"That attitude still seems like that of a noble." Machias sneers. "So tell us then. What are you? A noble or a commoner."
I sigh as I palmface. This guy doesn't shut up. "To answer your question, I don't know." I shrugs, everyone seeming surprised except for Sara. "I would love to answer your question. But Isn't the right time. After all. As I said earlier, we still need to ask what's going on."
"Agreed." Said the regal-looking boy with blond hair made an offhand remark about the irony of Machias's behavior.
"It seems the scion of some noble house has left the comfort of his mansion to grace the unwashed masses with his wisdom!" he proclaimed sarcastically. "Please, milord, do share your esteemed name with us so I can give you all the respect you deserve!"
"Jusis Albarea." Introduce the boy with blond hair. "Not that I would expect the name of an arrogant, stuck-up hedonist to lodge itself in that hard head yours." He put his hand on his hip and turned to face the rest of the students.
"H-he's from one of the Four Great Houses." The orange-haired guy said.
"The son of Duke Alberea, lord of the Kreuzen Province in the southeast." The spiky haired guy added
I've heard about the Four Great Houses of Erebonia. They're the nobles who hold authority over the land that has been granted to them.
"D-do you expect me to be impressed?" Machias exclaimed at Jusis. "Your family lineage means nothing to me! I'll never bend my knee to the like of-"
Sara clapped her hands, turning our attention back to her. "Okay, okay, that's enough! I'm sure that a couple of you have a few grievances, but now's not the time. I'll listen to your complaints later. And as the handsome gentlemen says, now's the time to begin your little icebreaker."
"You keep mentioning this…'orienteering exercise'," said the blond-haired girl. "What exactly does that involve?"
"It's a form of outdoor competition, isn't it?" Wondered the bespectacled girl. "Something like a cross between a map-reading exercise and a scavenger hunt?"
A competition...exercise...scavenger hunt? After pondering those words for a bit, something clicked in my mind.
"Ahh… Is that why those two asked for my weapon back at the front gate?" I ask the Instructor.
That caught the attention of the instructor. "You're a keen one, aren't you? Yup, all of that was in preparation for this." She then took a few steps back towards a stone pillar, an impish grin starting to emerge on her face. "Buuuuut I don't want to spoil the fun, so let's get started, shall we?" Winking at the puzzled students, she reached over to the pillar, revealed a secret button, and pressed it. The ground suddenly started shaking beneath the students' feet.
"...!" I then realize that the floor I'm standing in must be a trap door. As I reacted. I backflip then the trap door turn into a slide and threw the teenagers off balance, causing them all to slide off the incline into a lower level...with the sole exceptions of me, who successfully managed to jump to the side as I landed, and the silver-haired girl, who was hanging from a ceiling ledge with a grappling hook.
The instructor does not look impressed. "Really? I expected much from Fie but you too?" Sara huffs.
So I turn to the silver hair girl who is just hanging. It's nice to have another silver hair. But she has reflexes too?
"I'm guessing we have the best reflexes, huh?" i tilt my head
"Guess so." Fie answers hanging by her grappling hook.
"Come on, Fie. No cheating. You're going with them, and that's that. What's the point in having an icebreaker if you don't make a couple of new friends?" She brought out a throwing knife and expertly tossed it at the grappling hook, cutting the wire.
"Lame." The silver-haired girl sighed she fell
Sara then turned to me. "And you!"
I immediately straightened up. "Y-yes, ma'am?"
"While I'm surprised you managed to react so quickly. I'd commend you right now, but unfortunately, I'm going to have to ask you to move on down there. We can't start the icebreaker unless everyone is accounted for. Also, don't call me 'ma'am'; it makes me feel old."
"Then miss then?"
Then she just give me a bored look.
"Ohh…You want me to go down there as well, don't you?" I asked the Instructor to happily nod. I inched closer to the steep incline and peeked his head over one of the sides. Though it was fairly dark. "This thing is safe, right?"
"Don't worry about it," assured the instructor. "This thing was designed to as non-lethal as possible. Now go on and get moving...unless you want me to use force?"
"I don't mean to sound confident but you can try? But I'm curious… oh what the hell." And then I started sliding down to the bottom.
(?'s POV)
I watch Levi jumping into the trap door that leads to the dungeon. Then turn to Sara couldn't help wonder about Levi.
"His actions were quick and precise. It's just like with Fie; that boy has definitely seen combat before...and not the pleasant kind either." Sara let out a sigh. "I've gotten quite the handful of kids, haven't I?"
Oh you have no idea.
(Levi's POV)
I successfully landed at the bottom of the incline. My classmates were already standing up, though I couldn't help but notice that the boy with black hair was holding his cheek as if he'd been hit.
"What happen to you?" I asked the Black hair boy.
"Let's just say I got into an accident…" He sighed.
And then see the blonde hair girl puff and then got the idea.
"Ohh… are you okay?" I ask in concern.
"Uhhh, yeah, I'm fine." He answered.
"It's okay. I'm sure it was an accident." I smiled.
Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring.
I reach into my pocket and then pulled out the weird device. This is the device the Academy send me.
"Seems to be some kind of portable orbment." The blue haired girl said.
"Right you are, these handy little devices are a special kind of battle orbment." A voice replied on the device.
"Is that...Ms. Valestein?" The tall tanned guy asked.
"So these devices have built-in communications functionality, then?" Machias added.
"W-wait, don't tell me these things are…?!" the blond-haired girl started to say more
But she was promptly interrupted by Instructor Sara. "New model battle orbments made through a partnership between the Epstein and Reinford Company. Newly made fifth-generation battle orbments, in fact. They're called ARCUS units."
"ARCUS…" The black-haired boy whispered the name to himself.
Oh, just like the name said. And it said RF. Which means the Reinford group. They're the largest heavy industry corporation in Erebonia
"So these are battle orbments," the bespectacled girl restated. "That means they'll allow us to use arts, right?"
"Sure will!" the female instructor confirmed. "Just set a quartz into one of its slots, and you can use arts all the live long day. And as an added bonus, I've prepared enough quartz for each and every one of you to help you get started." As she said this, the room suddenly started to light up. The lamps adorning the walls that were once dark were now turned on, revealing the presence of several small desks, each with a person's luggage and a small box on it. "The weapons you brought are all here too, each packaged neatly along a little box containing a quartz. Find yours, and try setting the quartz into your ARCUS." After that, the instructor hung up, leaving the students no choice but to do as she directed.
(? Pov)
Yes, I look into Levi's Master Quarts. And it was Moebius. Yeah no. I made a better Master Quart for him. So I switch it and place that Master Quart.
(Trails of cold steel ost - Investigation)
(Levi POV)
I look around and think.
"Well… it can't be help." I shrug
And then begin to walk towards my weapon which was in a case along with a wrap blanket. But I saw two weapons are the same but I had to choose random. But before I do. I notice the shape of the weapon. One has the head shape different from my Glaive. So that isn't mine. So I went to the other one and found mine. I unwrap my Glaive and it looks how it was before. And then open the small box and there was a small shiny silver sphere that shined like a diamond. I notice the pattern. The pattern looks like a book opening its pages and sparking pouring out. After gazing at it for a little bit, I inserted the quartz into the center of my ARCUS with no trouble at all. Once that was done, a blue-white light began to emanate from both my chest and my ARCUS unit. Similar lights began to appear as each of the other students inserted their quartz into their respective ARCUS units.
"What the…?" I say.
"That light means that you've successfully synchronized with your ARCUS." Instructor Sara's voice promptly replied. "Congratulations! Now you can use arts as much as you want. These ARCUS units have plenty more nifty features," the instructor continued, "But I wouldn't want to bombard you with too much info all at once, so we'll cover those another time. Anyway, since you've got your ARCUS all set up and ready to go, here's what I want you to do." As if on cue, a door in the opposite side from where everyone fell opened on its own. "When you step through that door, you'll be in an underground testing area. Basically...it's a dungeon. It's pretty large and full of twists and turns. I'd almost guarantee that you'll get lost at least once. But when you find the exit, you'll be able to return to the first floor of this old schoolhouse. There ARE monsters wandering around though, so don't let your guard down even for a moment! With all that said, let's commence our special orienteering exercise! Your objective is to make your way through this area and back to the surface. Make it back in one piece and I'll be happy to field any complaints you might have. If you make it back safely, I might even give you a kiss, free of charge! ...On the cheek, of course." On that note, the call ended.
And with that, we gathered in front of the open door and stared at each other in silence.
"U-umm…" the boy with red-orange hair tried to say something to break the tension.
"...I don't think she's joking," said the blond-haired girl nervously.
'Hmm… So this is what she meant. How exciting! Looks like we were gonna have to work well together and break the ice at the same time if we wanted to succeed at this testing exercise.' I thought and then turn to everyone else. "Um, excuse me." I called out to everyone as they turn to me. "If I may, I rather not sound like one of those potential pompous leaders, but I think the idea of trying to go at this alone is a bad idea, considering it's an unknown danger." I said to the other classmates. "May I suggest that we form little groups for now until we reach the end?"
"Yeah, I like the sound of that idea." the black hair guy nodded. "Mind if you and I team up?"
"I don't mind at all." I smiled. "Anyone else want to join?"
"Oh, then I'll join." The orange haired guy volunteered.
"Allow me to fight at your side too." The tall guy added.
"And just where do you think you're going?" Machias asked. "Are you planning to go through that dungeon all by yourself?"
"I have no interest in becoming friends with anyone here." Jusis answered. "And I'm surprised that you, of all people, give a damn what I do. Unless… You've suddenly decided that you DO want to keep company with one of those 'stuck-up hedonists' after all. Still, if you're afraid of the monsters, I suppose I could accompany you. After all, what kind of Erebonian noble would I be if I didn't have at least some degree of prowess with a sword? And noblesse oblige dictates that it's my sacred duty to protect powerless commoners such as yourself."
"Wh-WHAT THE HELL?!" Machias shouted and respond in anger. "Nobody's asking your high excellency to DEIGN to help us!" Then he started making his way to the door. "But if that's how you're going to be, I'll just...find my way out of here before you! I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself without some relic of an outdated class system dragging me down!" With those words, he huffed and entered the dungeon.
Jusis gave a silent scoff and followed him shortly after.
And the rest of us simply watched them go. "Is it just me, or did it seem like he was literally trying to provoke him?" I asked once both of them were out of sight.
"You're not the only one who got that vibe. This is going to be a difficult year if this keeps up…" the blond girl sighed.
"Well then, shall we form a group as well, girls?" The blue-haired girl asked.
The blonde haired girl and the girl with glasses nodded. She was about to ask the silver-haired girl, but she already walked off.
"Well, I guess my suggestion did work in some way." I wrap my arms behind my neck.
"Well I'm certain you gentlemen will do fine, but do take care." The blue haired girl replied.
The three girls then walked onwards, leaving just me, and the three guys here.
"Well then, I guess that we should get going as well." I said. "But before that, how about we introduce ourselves."
The orange hair guy nodded. "My name's Elliot Craig, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you Elliot. I'm Levi Sullivan." I smiled. "I arrive at the Empire actually."
"Really? You as well?" The tall guy asked and look surprised.
"Yeah. Wait, you too?"
"Yes." The tall guy said. "My name is Gaius Worzel. I just arrived in the empire. I never thought there would be another aboard student like myself."
"Same here. Hehe." I smiled with joy. "Oh, so how about you?"
"Oh, right. My name's Rean Schwarzer. It's nice to meet you."
"So… this is where we draw our weapons or something?" I asked
"Probably, since we're going in." Elliot said and then pulled out some tech staff? Gaius pulled out a spear. And Rean pulled some sword with sharp gleam. While I pulled out my Glaive.
"Impressive weapon Gaius. It's a Spear but it has an odd cross-shaped head." I notes.
"I could say the same of yours." Gaius said as they turn to my Glaive. "A polearm with a single-edged blade on the end of a pole. Looks sharp as well." Then Gaius look at the bottom at my Glaive. "And there's another sharp blade on the bottom as well.
"This is my Glaive. An Impressive design if I do so myself." I wink.
"It looks… kind of cool." Elliot said with awe. "It looks like it's forged out of some rare ore. The design is pretty unique too."
"But speaking of cool, I'd have to say yours is right up there, Elliot." I smiled.
"Is it… a staff?" Rean wondered. "Wait… no, it's an Orbment, isn't it?"
"That staff is an Orbment?"
"It's both actually. It's an orbal staff. The tech is pretty recent, this one's still a prototype, more or less. Back during enrollment, they told me I had some aptitude for it, so when it came time to choose, I just sorta… ran with it."
"Interesting. I've never seen anything like it before." Gaius said.
"Same here. It makes you look like a magic caster." I chuckled.
"Yeah. It's still in the development stages but apparently, I had a high efficiency so I just kinda... ran with it. But that said, I'm curious about what you have Rean." Elliot replied
"It's different from the swords I thought people in the Empire use..."
"It's an Eastern style of saber called a tachi. Any way you slice it, though, it's basically a longsword."
"It's a beautiful blade regardless. Oh… we should probably get going. We shouldn't be left behind too far, right?"
Rean nodded. "Agreed, let's go."
We walked through the hall and began our exploration of the dungeon. It didn't take long before we noticed our first monster that was flying around near a corner. The monster is a cute one. It's a cat with wings.
"Yikes! A monster!" Elliot exclaimed.
"Hehe. It's cute if you ask me." I smiled
"Huh, never seen that kind of monster before." Gaius said.
"It looks like a flying feline." Rean added. "Careful everyone."
Rean then charge in and then attack it from behind and then three more flying cats monsters join the battle. Making this my first battle with other people. Aside from my Familiars. I block and then swirl gracefully and then thrusts forward once, then slashes downwards right. Manage to kill one and Gaius kill the other one as it turn to purple ashes and Elliot was healing us with his Arts and casting arts too. Eventually, the battle ended and we felt like we worked well as a team.
"Well, that was a good start to our many battles to come." I said.
"But that was most likely a warm up." Gaius replied. "I can sense more further in."
"Anyways, let's stay alert." Rean said as he led the way and we followed him.
There were a few more monsters to deal with, but there were also treasure chests that Rean opened. I'm surprised there's treasure around here… was this set up or something? Or… was it designed that way? Well, it is a dungeon and dungeons leave treasures for useful items as stories read. We then passed through a medium-sized area and dealt with a large group of big-sized insects till the coast was clear.
"Phew..." Elliot was on his knees.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"I'm fine...I was so relieved that the battle was over that my legs gave out." He looked at me. "Still, I can't believe how quick and graceful you are with that Glaive, it's like you don't fear anything."
"Well, I've been through some intense training. Fighting monsters was part of it." I smiled as I explain a small part of my past. However, I notice two things. One presence coming closer and a monster hiding for a sneak attack. "And one of my training is sensing. Elliot look out!" I then got in front of Elliot ready to defend him as the bug monster jump to attack. Only to be sent flying by some explosion attack and then Rean finish it off.
We looked at the stairs in front of us and saw Machias holding some weapon. If I remember right. That looks like one of those guns. A Shotgun.
"Looks like I made it just in time, thank Aidios for that." He said.
"That was some impressive firing." I said as I praise him.
"It's not that special." He sighed. "I came to realize that I shouldn't have stormed off like that. I was impressed with your quick thinking, you were only saying what you thought would be best for all of us, it's good to know that we have someone whose level-headed. As I introduce earlier… I'm Machias, it's good to meet you."
"Nice to meet you Machais. I'm Levi Sullivan." I smiled. "So are you feeling okay now?"
"Yeah. I'm okay. I let that arrogant noble goad me into losing my composure and acting on impulse." Machais answered as he look down.
"We all have moments when we say or do things we regret. That's human nature for you." Elliot replied with a smile.
"True that." I nodded
"I'm just glad I happened to passing by after I'd cooled my head. I decided to retrace mt steps, and there you guys are. There's only 4 of you?" Machas asked as he look around and notice there are only 4.
"Yeah. We stood around talking for a while, so the others are probably ahead of us at this point." Rean answered.
"I don't think there's any reason to go back any further. I can't imagine you'll find anyone there." Gaius stated.
"I see… you have a point there… So… err… I… I don't suppose you'd mind if I come with you guys?" Machias asked
"Of course. The More the merrier." I respond with a smile.
"Yeah, welcome aboard." Rean nodded and then we put away our weapons. "The name's Rean Schwarzer."
"I'm Elliot Craig. It's nice to meet you." Elliot introduce himself.
"My name is Gaius Worzel. It's a pleasure." Gaius also introduce himself.
"I already introduce myself. Unless I introduce myself again." I said with a joke.
"No needed. The pleasure's mine, I assure you. My name is Machias Regnitz." Machias introduce himself. And then begin to look like he has a question. "Could… Could I also ask what social class you each belong to?"
"Huh? Why is that important?" I asked
"Well…I realize how that must sound, considering my recent outburst… and as I complain earlier and responded earlier… I have a grudge against nobles." Machias answered
"Yeah I can understand that. Still, there are good nobles out there. Unlike one of the typical ones." I pointed that out.
"I don't think that's true. After all… I had some personal experience against them…" Machias said with a gloomy tone.
'Personal huh?' I wondered. 'Yeah I thought so.'
"But please, don't take it personally. I'm simply curious to know who I'm associating with." Machias said.
"Well…" I begin to trailed off. "Like I answer your question during your outburst. I don't know. I don't know if I'm a son of a noble family or a commoner. I live my life in isolation. In fact. I don't know if I'm from Erebonia too."
"Wait, you're not?" Rean look surprised.
"And what do you mean you been isolated your whole life?" Elliot asked.
"I been wondering those questions myself. My adopted grandfather avoids the questions about my birth. As for Isolation… well… I can't answer that." I answered. 'Master Makatov told me that the powers should be kept a secret.'
"I see… then… if you're not from Erebonia… then where did you live?" Machias asked
"In Nord Highland." I answered
"From my homeland?" Gaius look surprised.
"Your homeland?" I look and ask Gaius.
"Nord Highland if my homeland. Remember I said I was an aboard student? Nord is my home." Gaius explain.
"Whoa, really? That's cool!" I smiled with cheered.
"So it's just you and your adopted grandfather living somewhere in the Highland?" Gaius asked.
"Yeah. But I wasn't alone. I have animal friends." I answered. And Luka.
"Animal friends huh?" Elliot smiled.
"Oh, I think I talk too much of me." I said.
"Oh, right. We talk about you awhile. So for me… both my parents are commoners." Elliot said as je place his hands close to his center waist.
"Likewise. Though, my homeland has no class system to begin with." Gaius said.
"What about you, Rean?" Machias turn to Rean.
"Well…" Rean pause for a moment there as he think. "Let's just say, I haven't got a drop of noble blood in my veins. So I guess we're all on equal standing here."
'Huh?' I turn to Rean. 'Did he hesitate there? Why would he do that? And what does he mean by haven't got a drop of noble blood in his veins? Hold on… there's something else about him as well… I sense… dark malevolent power within him…'
"Well, now, that's a relief. We should probably get moving, then. I'm somewhat concern about the girls, as you might imagine." Machias said. "I'd feel much better if we were around to help if they wound up in danger."
"Yeah. I suppose there's strength in numbers." Rean nodded
"All right. Let's go." Gaius nodded.
As the four of them begin to head out. I begin to follow them. 'Hmm… something about Rean is… mysterious… I should be on my guard with him… yet he doesn't appear to be bad. His hesitation also got me curious. However, It's best that I keep my eye on him.'
We then made our way past another room and taken down couple of more monsters, and were about to turn a corner
"We meet again." The blue haired girl said as she and the other two girls appeared.
"Good to see you girls hanging in there." Elliot replied.
"I'm glad the five of you are unharmed as well." The girl with glasses added.
"Well at least you cool your head, at least." The Blue hair girl said to Machias.
Machias sighed. "Yes… I calm down now…"
"At any rate, I believe now is the time to introduce ourselves." The blue haired girl continued. "I'm Laura S. Arseid from the town of Legram. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"The pleasure is mine, Laura." I replied first. "I'm Levi Sullivan. Wait, did you say Legram?"
"I did."
"Wow. It's been a long time since I've been there."
"You been to my hometown before?"
"Yeah. But it was awhile ago."
"It's very nice to meet you, Levi. I'm Emma Millstein." The girl with glasses said. "Like Laura, I come from a distant region of the Empire. I was only able to attend Thors thanks to a scholarship, in fact."
'A scholorship huh? How nice. She's the second top as I recalled… but… I sense magical affinity within her.'
"A Scholarship? Hmm… indeed, now that you mention it, our instructor did say your was the second stop score at the entrance exam." Machias said and then he look at me. "And I was outdone by Levi."
"Are you upset?" I eyebrow as I turn to him. Then click. "Ohh… now I get it. You probably felt ashamed you lost to someone like me, did you?" I cross my arm.
"N-No, of course not… I… I…" Machias respond nervously.
"So you were…" I sighed. Then turn to the blond hair girl who appears to be upset. "Um, is something wrong miss?"
"Is something the matter?" The Blue hair girl turn her head to the blond girl. "We're all acquainted now. It's only proper that you introduce yourself."
The girl pause for a moment there and then she close her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, okay. "I'm Alisa R., from Roer. It's a pleasure to meet ALMOST all of you."
"Almost?" I eyebrow. "Okay, mind filling me in what going on before I arrived?"
"There's nothing to talk about. I can assure you." Alisa said as she huff.
"Now I'm more curious." I sweatdrop. "Hold on… you said your surname was R? Is it just an initial?"
"I do have a last name," Alisa said in a matter-of-fact tone, "but I just don't want to say it now. I have...personal reasons."
"Hmm…" I tapped a finger to my chin. "Well, I won't press you on it; it's only the first day, after all. Besides, it adds a little bit of mystery to you."
"Th-that wasn't my intention."
"Anyway… Roer, huh?" Elliot asked. "What's it like living there? There's probably a new technological breakthrough every week."
"The Reinford Company's based in Roer, and they're the largest heavy industry corporation on the continent, aren't they?" I asked
"I suppose they are." Alisa said.
'Hmm… Reinford Company… The same company that help build the ARCUS… I began to assume that Alisa's surname is Reinford… as she pointed out… she doesn't want to say for personal reason.'
Oh and it seems the girl just left as the girls will be fine because of Laura. And Rean explain that her surname, Arseid also have a school of their own swordsmanship called the Arseid style from the ancient knights. Now that Rean mention it… Arseid is the name famous from 250 years ago from the Isrinritter. Plus we still need to look for Jusis and that other girl with the silver hair.
"Looks like the path splits." Rean said and got my attention. "Which way do you think we should go?"
"Hmm…" I turn to the direction of the wind I felt. "I sense wind earlier coming from the east. If I had to guess, that must be the exit."
"Yes. I was going to say the same thing." Gaius nodded
"We still need to find the silver hair girl and that other guy." I recalled.
"Hmph. I couldn't care less what happens to that pompous ass. He can rot down here." Machias scoff.
"Machias, I'm sure you have a good reason for hating nobles, but if you keep acting like that, someone's going to get hurt eventually. Just...try and rein yourself in until we find the instructor again. Because we're going to need all the people we can get if we want to get out of here, and the monsters aren't going to wait to listen to your views on social prejudice."
And then Machias mumble about something. We continued exploring and we came to small area where I could sense someone was nearby.
"What's wrong you two?" Machias asked. Guess Rean must have sense someone too.
"M-More monsters?!" Elliot gulp.
"Wrong." I said and turn to the large pillar. "You can come out from hiding."
"Huh. You're pretty sharp." Then the silver haired girl appeared from behind the large pillar.
"I'm glad to see you're safe." Rean said. "I guess there was no point in worrying."
"Nope." The silver haired girl replied. "I'm small and quick. These things can't lay a finger on me."
"Oh yeah, I recall your actions before the trapdoor. If you're quick with those daggers, maybe we could have a spar sometime." I said. "Your daggers against my Glaive, sound cool?"
She smirked at me. "I'll think about it...oh yeah, Fie Claussell. That's my name."
"Nice to meet you Fie, the name's Levi Sullivan." I smirked back.
"Sure...later." Fie then leaped to the wall and jumped up to the path above us and dashed away.
"She sure wasn't fibbing when she said that she was quick on her feet." Gaius said.
"She's got impressive speed." I nodded with a smile. "Makes me wonder why she hidden though. And this place… I think I'm just gonna say it. It's possible we're almost out of here. But I can be wrong."
"Guess we'll find out. Shall we?" Rean suggest.
We made our way past a couple more rooms and then we entered a very large area with a long stairway to an open door at the end. I assumed that would be the exit, looking at it now, this seemed way too easy. Then we heard some fighting. We begin to rush our way and then we found Jusis. And he was surrounded by 5 monsters yet he was able to take out one by one. Rean explain that's Court Fencing. It's a style favor by the nobility. After he's done. He turn around to us.
"Did you need something?" Jusis asked
"Sorry. I was just admiring your swordsmanship." Rean answered
And then we begin to introduce ourselves as he already introduce himself but he introduce himself nonetheless.
Then he look at Machias. "And I have to say, I didn't think you had it in you. I'm impressed."
"What are you talking about?" Machias asked
"After all that bluster about finding your way to the exit alone, I wasn't expecting you to actually rely on others for help. I assume you came to your senses shortly after you stormed off, and then wandered back to apologize like a good boy. Truly, the virtue of the common man! Why a preening noble such as myself would be far too proud to do such a thing. " Jusis sarcastically said.
"Jusis, that wa-"
"Rrrrgh… What the hell is your problem!?" Then I got interrupted as Machias was going into his outburst. "You nobles really are all the same. So full of yourselves it's a wonder up you don't pop! And you're not just a garden-variety noble, either. House Albarea is one of the highest-ranking in the country. I'll bet you just love looking down on us less-fortunate souls, don't you?!" Machias growled
"Tsch. You're one to talk… I don't need a lecture in rank from the son of the Imperial governor."
'Imperial Governor?' I thought
"Oh! I thought the name Regnitz sounded familiar…" Elliot look surprised
"Carl Regnitz, the commoner ever to hold the seat of Imperial governor in Heimdallr. The first to rule the capital. And this… headstrong young lad just so happens to be a chip off that old block. Pretty rarefied air for a simple commoner, don't you think?" Jusis asked
"Yes, my father is the Imperial Governor, but he EARNED that position through years of hard, honest work! Don't you go lumping him in with you nepotists who get your titles handed to you just for being born!" Machias growled
"Perish the thought." Jusis respond calmly. "No, I mainly just regard your father as a reformist… and a close friend of the chancellor, at that. And as you're vividly aware, his faction is in conflict with the Noble Faction, led by none other than the Four Great Houses. When you look at it that way, your vitriolic disdain for the nobility suddenly seems rather-"
"Jusis, I suggest you stop right there." I interrupt and look displease.
Jusis turn to me. "This has nothing to do with you."
"You're right. It doesn't." I cross my arm. "However, I can understand that conflict as you pointed out from the two factions. The example you and Machias are demonstrating at each others throats. But I ask you that the two of you stop and drop it, before you two end up hurting each other. This is not the time to be arguing. If this keeps going. You will say something you will regret later on. And you don't want that on your conscious. So both of you put your differences aside and FOCUS." I sounded with a strong leadership tone. "Not to mention that the Academy stated that we are standing Equals. This is a test we're doing. If we want to get out of this dungeon, then we need to work together and get out of here." I advised and stated the facts.
Both Machais and Jusis stayed silent as they close their eyes and arm cross.
"S-Sorry." Machais apologize.
"I should apologize as well. I still have a lot to learn." Jusis apologize back.
"Good. With that settle, let us be off, shall we?" I smiled
"Right, let's go." Rean smiled
"Very well, I guess I'll accompany you." Jusis replied.
We continue but I have to watch Machias and Jusis so they don't go at each others throat. We soon entered a very large area with a long stairway to an open door at the end. I assumed that would be the exit, looking at it now, this seemed way too easy.
"Hmm… this feels too easy…" I said.
"Agreed. This was a complete waste of time. Pointless busywork at best. Considering the School's esteemed founder, I was expecting more of a challenge, but nothing posed even a modest threat." Jusis said.
Then I sense a strong monster coming.
"I think you jinx it." I said.
"Pardon?"
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Eliminate Crisis)
And then A minor rubble occurred from a statue that I noticed from a ledge and it turned into a living gargoyle.
"The statue?!" Rean exclaimed
"What the heck is THAT?!" Elliot panic.
"It's a Gargoyle." I answered.
"A gargoyle come to life? What sorcery is this?" Jusis asked as the gargoyle jump in front of me and the others, blocking the exit. It let out a large growled as it shake the surrounding. I bet the others far away notice it too.
"This thing's cutting off our only route to the surface." Rean pointed out as we pulled out our weapons. "No choice… we have to fight it!"
"I can sense this one Is strong. Aside from looking at it. Be careful." I warned the group and then the Gargoyle let out a roared and then it begin to attack us.
It let out a bite attack but we dodge it and then I use my craft: Piercing Throw at the Gargoyle and it got hurt and then Gaius use his craft and Rean use his craft to buff us. The Gargoyle let a tail attack but I backflip and then use my craft again and aim it at it's neck and stab it there leading out a roar and then Jusis use his craft and attack it on the face with fencing jab while Elliot begin to cast Arts on it. And then the Gargoyle cast arts onto Rean. Elliot then use his arts and heal him while the Gargoyle charge with a bite attack but I jump and then stab it in the head for an instead kill but it just fall on the ground and then it begin to shake me off and I jump off and then it begin to change form and then begin to unleash a strong Wind Art attack onto us and we took damage. Jusis use his Art and damage it while Gaius stab it and then Letting Rean with his craft and I charge and slash it as the gargoyle claw attack us but I dodge and counter-attack while it harm the others and then I stab it on the stomach as it roared and tried to grab my Glaive but I pull it out and then let out a wide spin up-left slash to counter it and then I use my craft again an push it back. And then after Elliot heal the group. They all join me and damage it. Soon the Gargoyle was on it's knees. But the fight isn't over. It rose up for another round. I notice Rean and the others might have already spend their stamina. Guess I'll- wait… I sense group of people coming our way and then arrows was fired and then Alisa, Laura and Emma arrived.
"Y-You made it!" Elliot sigh of relief.
"You've certainly got some good timing." Gaius complimented.
"Seems like you're all okay, at least!" Alisa replied
"So, a gargoyle, is it? I didn't expect to find the Dark Ages alive and well down here. It doesn't seem like it'll go down easy." Laura replied.
She's right about the dark ages. And then soon Fie appeared as Machias let out an opening with his Craft and then Fie stab it on the legs and then let us an opening. I noticed our ACRUS's glowing as well, it felt like we could time each others moves perfectly. Emma and Elliot casting arts and orbs attack while Machias gunfire, Fie slash and shoot her bullets while me, Rean, Gaius, Jusis and Laura let out a hack, slash, pierce combo onto the gargoyle as it roared. I begin to jump overhead and then slam my head on it's neck and force it down
"Alright, time to put it down!" I said as I leap away. "Laura, this one's yours!"
"Right! Hiyaaaaaah!" Laura launched with long sword and sliced the head of the gargoyle clean off and it turned into stone before breaking away.
The monster itself began to turn back into stone and then collapsed into multiple pieces and fading away, we put our weapons away and looked at each other in a circle.
"Alright!" I cheerfully said. "Well done, everyone!"
"What happened there, anyway?" Elliot asked. "It was right before the end of the battle."
"You notice. During the moment, our ARCUS glowed at the same time. I'm not sure why, but if I had to guess… it felt like we knew each other's timing with perfection." I pondered. And it click onto me. "Ahh… now I get it. So that's the purpose of this test. It's to test of friendship through the power of our ARCUS."
"Absolutely correct! Give this man a prize!" A voice intervened.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - The Sound of Rainfall in the Academy)
We looked up at the stairs to see Sara who was looking proud.
"I'm so proud of you guys." She said. "That concludes our special orienteering exercise."
"Well, it was very interesting, don't get me wrong." I replied. "But I think we all have a few questions about this, we're just not sure what to begin with."
"I'll take a stab at it." Jusis said. "What exactly is this purpose behind this 'Class VII'?"
"I mean, we get that its supposed to be some sort of melting pot that includes a crossbreed selection of people." Emma added.
"But why were the ten of us chosen in particular?" Laura asked.
"Hmm…" Sara nodded. "That IS a valid question. There's no single, monolithic reason why you all made the list… but if I had to name a major contributing factor, it'd be those ARCUS orbments you've got there."
As we open out ARCUS. Then She explained about how the ARCUS units could perform what was called a combat link with other devices, allowing their holders to act in perfect sync with each other, and how the ten of them were chosen based on their aptitude for the device. So Combat Linking… I've been sighting Solo… so this is how team work felt… what a beautiful experience…
(Trails of Cold Steel ost -Class Vll)
"I think that pretty much explains the hows and whys of your situation," Instructor Sara said "But this program isn't cheap to run, so we're not about to force anyone into it if they don't want to be here. You should also be aware that Class Vll's curriculum will be tougher than any other class' coursework, just fair warning. So now you know. And leaves you all the important decision to make: will you stay in Class Vll or not. Oh and if you opt out, you'll just be placed in the class you would've been assigned to otherwise. There's no pressure. Nobles will land in Class l and ll, commoners will in lll, lV, and V. It's still just the first day, so there's no real catching up you'd have to do. I'm sure you'd fit in just fine."
I look and see my fellow uniform all looked at each other in silence as if waiting for someone to make the first move. I'll be honest. This Class Vll sounds fun. Sooooo…
"There may be a lot we still don't know, but I'll be the first one to answer what I do know." I answered, taking one step forward. "I'm going to pursue this course and I'm gonna see it through to the end, no matter how simple or how challenging the tasks ahead of me will be."
"So you're the first, Levi? You seem pretty sure. Any particular reason?" Sara asked
"Good question." I respond. "I honestly don't have one. But if I have to give my answer…" I pause for a moment and begin to answer. "I say because I want to. I want to learn more, experience more, Grow stronger more, what is it like to be in a classroom with others. Regardless if we have chosen randomly or on purpose. I want to see how this life goes. I have been sheltered my entire life. And this is a great opportunity for me to explore the Horizon. Meet new people, learn about them. Being friends with them. It's all I wanted. After all. This is a beginner of a new chapter of my life. But not just me. Everyone here."
"Mmm. A noble sentiment." Instructor Sara respond.
"Count me in too." Rean said as he step up. "Whatever Class Vll has to throw at me. I'm game. I would feel like I've put my family out, asking them to send me to this school. So if it gives me more to show for my time here, I'll take whatever opportunity come my way."
"Count me in as well."Then Laura said as she step up. "The greater the challenge, the more I can push myself to excel. One can't hone a blade without grit, after all."
Then Gaius Step up. "Let's make it three. Considering how far i came to attend this school, it'd be silly to back down before i even started."
"Well, looks like we've got two of strongest freshman on board, and two of our foreign exchange students, too." Instructor Sara commented.
So Laura is a powerhouse as I am, huh? Then Emma step up.
"Allow me to take part as well." Emma said. "I was only able to come because of the school's generosity, so I feel it's my duty to help in any way I can."
Elliot step up. "S-Sign me up too!" Then he scratch his cheeks. "I feel like fate brought us here for a reason, y'know? And you all seem pretty easy to get along with."
"And that's a yes from our two orbal staff testers. Though i feel compelled to remind you... your weapons are still in the prototype stage, so on top of your other, I'll be expecting reports from both of you!" Sara replied.
"Let me join, too." Alisa said as she step up.
"Oh? There's a surprise." Instructor Sara replied. "I was almost certain your rebellious streak would see you opt-out just on general principle."
"It does bother me that you've got us using these ARCUS units that are still clearly in development." Alisa said. "But if i let every little nitpick like that hold me back, i'd never amount to much."
"Words to live by, right there. And that brings us to an even seven. Now, what about you, Fie?"
"Don't really care either way." Fie answered. "You can choose."
"Not this time. This is one call you're gonna have to make for yourself. That was the deal, remember? You need to take control of your own life."
Fie sighed."Fine. I'm in."
What is the relationship with those two? So all that's left is Jusis and Machias choice. And Marchias with his argument but then.
"I, Jusis Albarea, claim my place as a member of Class Vll." Jusis said.
That took all of us by surprise.
"Wh-Why?!" Machias asked in shocked. "You're the son of a suke! Just the thought of being in the same class as commoners should make you sick!"
"I'll thank you not to tell me how i'm supposed to feel. As far as the house of Albarea is concerned, there's little difference between other nobles and commoners. Besides, this should at least ensure i won't have fools flitting about every day trying to win my favor."
Well at least he's honest about that.
"That said, I have little interest in getting drawn into your petty arguments on a daily basis, either. I think it would be prudent for us to go our separate ways. i'm certain we can at least agree on this, no?"
"I don't need some pompous ass who coasts through life on his father's coattails telling me what to do!"
And there it goes.
"I'm in, come hell or high water! You might've had your successes spoon-fed to you up to now, but no outmoded class system is going to hand you trophies anymore!"
"Hmph. We'll see about that." Jusis smirked.
Oh boy…
Sara applauded at the result. "Well how about that! A perfect ten out of ten! With that, I'd like to congratulate all of you on being the first-ever Class VII! I hope you keep those high spirits all year, 'cause with the workload we've got planned for you, you'll need it!"
And as Instructor Sara said some more closing words afterward, but I was distracted by something that caught my eye. At the top of the staircase leading to the exit stood two people: Principal Vandyck and a man with blond hair wearing regal red clothes. The latter of the two locked eyes with me and winked. I responded with a handsome smile.
And thus, Class VII was born.
And soon after we left the Old School House. Instructor Sara informed us to head to our dorms. The dorms is located in the town and found the by the Train station. As we enter. I saw how large it was. I was an awe. And then I begin to look around excited and then found my room. I enter and it was exciting. Maybe I should start by making friends now!
As I begin to head out of my room. I begin to look around and then find someone to hang out with.
-Night-
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Evening Moments)
It's late. I'm glad I was able to talk to everyone in the class and make friends with them. Of course Jusis was hard but I manage to convince him. As I was going to bed.
"Hamsuke. Luka." I called out and then my two familiar appeared.
"How's school life going?" The little Slime appeared from my shadow and asked me.
"It's going great. Honestly. I wasn't expecting this. It's still new to me. Is this how it normally runs?" I asked
"No I doubt it… Perhaps this one is special." The Hamster familiar name Hamsuke replied and also appeared from my shadow.
"Hmm… Well at least I manage to interact with most of my classmates." I smiled. "Still… did you two also notice something is weird with few students?" I asked
"You mean the boy name Rean? And the glasses girl Emma?" Luka asked
"Yes. We both sense what you sense too." Hamsuke nodded. "The glasses girl possess a magical presence. It's possible she's one of them. As for the boy. I don't know what he is just yet. We will keep an eye on them."
"Okay, thank you. Also, be sure you're aware of a cat too. I sense that one is also magical." I nodded
"Will do. Anyway, you should sleep. You got school in the morning." Hamsuke nodded
"Right. Goodnight you two." I smiled and then begin to put on my PJ and then tuck myself in as my familiar begin to sleep with me.
