The scene continued off with Kaito in mid jump as he landed a face kick on Maddiman as both of them tumbled into the lab.
"How freaking dare you!" Maddiman said, tossing a few scalpels at Kaito who then quickly dodged.
"Wow… I can't believe this is the same Kaito we're seeing fight." Hope said. "He was so scared of practically everything this hospital was about earlier."
"Something in his psyche has changed, as if one of his fears has completely vanished." Miriam said.
"No, this is only a temporary fix. But… I get the feeling this is more than just a dose of adrenaline." Cheetah said.
"Okay, jacket man. Time to take your medicine!" Maddiman said, tossing a bottle at Kaito who dodged as the jar broke as the concoction melted through the wall.
"Acid? How is that supposed to be medicine for me, you freak?" Kaito asked.
"It'll help put you to an eternal rest!" Maddiman said, tossing more of the rotten medicine at Kaito who ran from it.
"No way, man. I already died once in my life." Kaito said.
"Well then this shouldn't be an issue!" Maddiman laughed maniacally. "Not like you have a shot against a medical genius!"
"More like a quack!" Kaito said, tossing some cotton balls at him.
"Ha! It'll take more than cotton to stop…" Maddiman said before a jar of tongue depressors hit him. "Ah! Splinters in my eye!" he cried in pain.
"Now...here I...come!" Kaito said, landing a punch on the mad scientist, sending him crashing into a wall.
"Ugh...if I wasn't dead already, that would have killed me." Maddiman said, getting up as Kaito stood over him. "Oh come on. Give a guy a break already!"
"Sorry. But with a madman like you, there aren't any breaks." Kaito said. "Now get out of this hospital!"
"Not until I deal with that ass and take over the world with my reanimated soldiers!" Maddiman said.
"I wasn't asking." Kaito said. "Seriously...just drop all of this!"
"Never. I gotta do this. I...don't have anything better to do with my life." Maddiman said before sighing. "Who am I kidding? Fine...I'll leave."
"Well...that was...easy." Kazuma said.
"Yeah, I'm kinda shocked." Hope said. "Kaito, I've never seen you charge head first at stuff that would normally make you quake in your shoes before."
"Actually, I was just doing a favor for the staff here." Kaito said.
"The staff?" Cheetah asked.
"Yeah, you see… After Stoj scared me into running in here, I ran into this woman called Dr. Lilac. She was the head of the Psychiatry department while this place was still up." Kaito said.
"Wait...you said...Lilac?" Naofumi asked. "I was looking through the records of this place. That doctor died here before the hospital closed."
"Wait, are you serious? She seems completely real to me." Kaito said. "No, she had to be alive. I'll prove it."
He led them up to the security room as he found the camera with footage of him in the psychiatry wing. "See...there I…" Kaito said as the footage only saw him in the room talking.
"It's just you...talking to yourself." Kazuma said.
"Then...I was talking to an…" Kaito said.
"Apparition? Yes." Naofumi said.
"Though, I am impressed that you were able to have a conversation with a spirit this whole time." Fulgore said. "Most of us are led to believe only Leonora could do that."
"To be honest, I thought she was alive. She seemed so full of life for a ghost." Kaito said.
"The many spirits of this place do, but are completely unaware that we are here." Miriam said.
"Yet she noticed him. Maybe because she was a doctor when she was alive? Not really sure how this whole ghost thing works." Oshawott said.
"It just showed that some people are dedicated to their work...even after death." Cheetah said. "Though, the fact that she was still lurking around here has me curious."
"Yeah, I mean… How exactly would she have died?" Fulgore asked.
"Apparently, it was a structural accident. There was an earthquake the day she died and she happened to be in her office when a beam fell on top of her. It was the last day the hospital was operating." Naofumi said.
"No way… So that explains why she was still lurking here after death. She was tied to this place because of the accident in which she died… I had no idea." Kaito said. "Excuse me." he said as he ran off.
"Hey, wait up!" Oshawott said as they followed after him.
"Lilac. I…" Kaito said, entering the office but finding it empty with only a single book inside. "The...healing techniques...right. Our...agreement." he said looking down at it.
"Kaito… I'm sorry. I know how much you wanted to thank her for all of this." Fulgore said.
"I only knew her for a day and yet...she was so caring…" Kaito said before finding a note. "A note?" he pondered as he picked it up.
"Kaito...if you're reading this...then you have done what I've asked. I'm sorry to have kept the truth hidden from you but thought it better to hold my tongue...in order to help with your fear of the paranormal. See...I refuse to pass on only because so many people in this place are hurting and I am the only one who can help them. That is a doctor's duty...to help those in need. Please do not let this get you down. You're going to be fine out there. Who knows, I may already have passed on when you finally reach Heaven. I look forward to the day when you and I meet again. Signed...Lilac…" the note read.
"Kaito." Miriam said. "It may be sad, but in a way you helped her be at peace." she said, putting her right hand on his shoulder.
"Uh...I don't need you to comfort me." Kaito said slowly moving away from her. "Just glad to know she won't be sad. And we got the healing techniques too."
"Yes. If she was able to get it to work… I bet our own doctors can make use of them too." Fulgore said.
"Don't you guys just have Chopper, though?" Kazuma asked.
"True, but Cheetah has Sojiro. Plus, we have a few medics that haven't learned these kinds of techniques yet." Fulgore said.
"Yes… I hope to use these techniques to be of better use as a medic." Mikan said. "Oh… I think we should probably get going before the dungeon collapses."
"Good idea, Mikan." Hope said.
The group exited the hospital just as it rumbled and fell apart right before their eyes.
At that moment, the man who warned them about the hospital came up to them, in disbelief.
"Youre… youre all alive!" he said. "But… no one's ever come out of that Hospital in one piece! It's cursed!"
"Well… not exactly cursed." Hope said. "Turns out the "curse" behind that hospital and all the patients mysteriously disappearing was due to an undead mad scientist trying to amass an army."
"You...do know this has been happening for years now right?" the doctor asked. "Though somehow it doesn't seem like that'll be the case anymore."
"Yeah… Hopefully, all of the spirits in this place can finally rest easy." David said.
"I hope so as well." Ace added.
"Good...also...here's a card." he said, handing them a card.
"This looks like the address for an insane asylum." Jexi said.
"Yeah...in case your friend there starts speaking in tongues." he said pointing to Hope before walking away.
"Great. Now everyone in the Life Universe is probably gonna think I'm crazy." Hope said.
"Please. It's just one guy." Mark said.
"Hope, you really gotta stop acting like one guy's opinion affects everything." David said.
"Yeah, I know." Hope said.
"Anyway, we're down to eleven dungeons now." Stahn said.
"I'm thinking we should keep this new Universe trend going with another Universe we haven't explored entirely yet." Zephyr said. "Anyone up for going to the Desert Universe for the first time?"
"I guess I can go along with that." Nesma said. "Well, Kareem, Bassam, shall we?"
"Indeed, my lady." Kareem said. "It will feel like we are back in our home in a sense."
"Ah, that's right. You guys are based on Egyptian mythical creatures, aren't you?" David asked.
"Yes. I am a Bastet after all." Nesma said. "And Kareem and Bassam are Anubis."
"It will be an extreme honor to visit a land where our mythos is based in." Bassam said. "So then, shall we be on our way?"
"A little sun and sand wouldn't hurt anybody. I say let's go." Hope said.
The group soon took off after that as Lilac watched them from the rubble of the old hospital.
"Take care...Kaito." she said as she vanished with the wind.
