(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Refreshing Morning)
Back on June 24. It was an awkward day. The students of nobles were gossiping about me. And I gave them a glare and told them to stop gossiping about me. Many were forced to do it. But I continue my regular school life. But still being gossip about me. And now brings us here to the 26th. I had just left my dorm to see the other four in the group possibly waiting for me.
"Morning you guys." I said, smiling.
"Good morning Levi." Jusis replied.
"Are you feeling okay?" Alisa asked.
I nodded. "Yeah. I'm okay. I'm surprised that I haven't been called into the principal's office about what happened. No doubt it will happen eventually… Still, I'm ready to take on whatever we have to face."
"That's good to hear." Gaius said. "Anyways, I hope you're all ready for a long trip. The train ride between here and there is over eight hours."
That's how long it took!?
"Oh shoot." I palm face." I forgot to make us some lunch…"
"But didn't you come from Nord with Gaius?" Rean asked.
Ah…
"Now that you mention it. I don't think we meet on the train." Gaius replied.
"W-Well I was in Heimdallr on that day. Normally I would be in Nord highland but my grandfather suggested I stay in Heimdallr because it was shorter." I answered hesitatingly. Oh crap… they will notice, won't they…
"That would explain it. No need to worry about it."
"Do you think we should stock up on snacks?" Alisa asked.
"Heehee, there'll be no need for that, Lady Alisa." Sharon answered as she came out of the dining room with a medium-sized basket.
"Good morning Sharon. You made a mini-sized picnic for us?" I asked.
"Why of course, I took the liberty of preparing some sandwiches and a pot of lemon tea for each group." She handed the basket to me. "I'm afraid I wasn't able to fix a proper breakfast, so I hope you'll enjoy these on the train instead. I hope you all have a pleasant journey."
"Thanks a lot Sharon. You're a life savor." I smiled as Rean takes the basket.
"Oh think nothing of it. Any good maid would do as much."
Alisa sighed. "Well, well. Everyone sure loves you, don't they? I guess my objecting to you bring here just made you work that much harder to cozy up to everyone else."
"Teehee. I would never dream of such a thing. Please have a safe and pleasant journey, my lady. I'll be counting the hours until your return."
"Fine, fine. I'm leaving." Alisa then stop and notice something. "Hold on... You aren't plotting anything else, are you?"
Sharon title her head. "I haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about."
"Yeaaah... if you say so. All right, we're leaving for real this time."
"Have a safe journey."
We left the dorm and made our way to the station. Both of our groups had to get on the same train before stopping at Heimdallr where we would need to switch trains and take the one that would travel to the northeast where the Nord Highlands would be. Group B parted ways with us and they got the train to Bryonia island whilst we got the train to highlands. Gaius, Rean, and I sat on one side and Alisa and Jusis sat on the other side. Gaius told us about the Nord Highlands and some of its history. I remember the history as he told me.
The ride was indeed a very long one, we had to pass through Roer and switch trains once more before resuming the train ride. However, I notice a familiar presence coming towards us.
"Huh…" I said.
"What is it, Levi?" Alisa asked
"I felt a familiar presence coming closer to us."
We were crossing over the station bridge when we saw a familiar person...I was surprised to see Sharon who was holding another basket. So it was her presence I sense.
"H-h-h...how did you even get here BEFORE us?!" Alisa asked in shock.
"Ah! The power of my love for you allows me to do the impossible, my lady." Sharon answered. "And as you'll see, I've prepared packed lunches for all of you that far surpass this morning's offerings."
"So it was your presence I sense earlier." I blink in surprise. "You are no ordinary maid, aren't you?"
"Hehe. Whatever do you mean Master Levi?"
Answering a question with another question… Yeah she's no ordinary maid. I don't know why but I sense something about her is… strong.
"Nevermind. That's quite some love you have there." I said as I took the basket from her.
Alisa sighed. "You're not supposed to take it literally!"
"Anyways, how did you manage to get here in the first place?" Then I click. "Oh wait… you use the airship in the capital, didn't you?"
"You got me." Sharon answered. "I took advantage of the opportunity to borrow the airship's kitchen so I could make your lunches as well. They're quite fresh, so take a moment to savor the taste."
"Well thank you, Sharon."
"We really do appreciate all you're doing for us." Gaius nodded
"Honestly, I knew you had to be up to something." Alisa sigh. "You're not planning on coming all the way to the Nord Highlands with us now, are you?"
"I'd love to, but unfortunately, I have other business to attend to. I may not be able to return Trista for a while either."
"Other business?"
"Sharon will be assisting me with my work." An unknown voice spoke.
Sharon stood aside and we saw a woman with short blonde hair and glasses with a pink scarf.
"M-m-mother?!" Alisa asked in complete shock.
"Hello Alisa." She replied. "Ah, you must be members of Class VII. I'm Alisa's mother, Irina. Also the chairman of the Reinford group. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Th-The pleasure is ours. I'm Rean. Schwarzer." Rean introduce.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Levi Sullivan." I bow.
"Gaius Worzel. Glad to make your acquaintance." Gaius introduce himself.
"Jusis Albarea. A pleasure." Jusis introduce himself.
"I'm glad you're all managing to get along with my obstinate daughter." Irina said then she turn to me. "You said your name was Levi Sullivan, yes?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"You have my thanks for the information about the Master Quartz. I trust the update each of you received of your ARCUS proven valuable?"
Oh yeah.
-Flashback-
June 24
In the classroom we were almost getting ready for class.
"Yoohoo. Hello my little munchkins." Instructor Sara greeted. "Before we can begin class. I would like to request that every one of you hand over your ARCUS after class."
"Our ARCUS?" Rean asked
"Whatever for?" Jusis asked
"Well an interesting observation has been discovered related to the Master Quartzs." Instructor Sara answered.
"Our Master Quartz?" Emma asked
"What discovery has it made?" Machias asked
"I don't have the full details yet but apparently a certain someone among you has discovered that the Master Quartz has a passive effect." Instructor Sara answered.
I was surprised. So George has finally created it?
"A passive effect?" Laura asked
"That's correct. This is why I would like to ask you all to hand over your ARCUS so they can install an update. You'll find it very useful."
-End of flashback-
"Wait, so it was you who help with the update, Levi?!" Alisa turn to me.
I nervously laughed. "Yep. I notice something like I was given a boon. But I wasn't aware how. But ever since I got my Master Quartz, the boon appeared."
"Now that you mention it. I feel like I did gain something else but wasn't aware of it." Rean replied
"Indeed. The update to your ARCUS allows you to read the information about your Master Quartz passive effects as well as the name. So allow me to offer you my gratitude for helping create a special chip to analyze the Master Quartzs passive effect."
"Oh, there's no need to thank me. I'm just glad that I've noticed. Plus I wasn't the only one who's curious about it. So I wanted to ask about the symbols and if it has a name. So the credit goes to my friends."
That's right. My Master Quarts is called Starry. It's an interesting name for a Master Quartz symbol. But it told me that I can increase my experience in battle a little more than everyone else. Which means I can level up faster. Not only that. There's another passive effect that has yet to be unlock.
"I see. Well regardless, you still get credit for the discovery. I wish I could stay awhile, but unfortunately, I have work that can't wait. Come along, Sharon."
"As you wish, madam chairman." Sharon replied.
As the two of them walked away and I could see that Alisa was a little mad. It seems she doesn't quite get along with her mother. I guess that was to be expected when we found out that Irina was a member of Thor's Board of Directors, just like Rufus. Well, I guess it would make sense since the Reinford company is the one responsible for designing the ARCUS and the Orbal stuff. We got the train that would take us to the highlands, Alisa had gotten quiet since we met her mother. Still… I'm still envious that she still HAS a mother. I did agree with Jusis that most people would be grateful to have parents display interest in their child's life. And also talk about Gaius's siblings. Once again… the jealous feeling about a parent's love and siblings. Even though it may be tough love. Soon we get close to Nord Highland. The nostalgia feeling wash over me… except I see the beautiful land once more.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Iron Command)
It was 16:30 by the time we arrived at Zender military station, we got off the train and were escorted by a few guards before entering a hallway.
"Ah, you've arrived." A voice said.
We saw a guy with an eye patch and dressed in a purple military uniform.
"It's a pleasure to see you again, Lieutenant-general." Gaius said.
"Likewise. It's been months since I last saw you." He replied. "Seems almost surreal to see you standing there in a military academy uniform. Though, this is the first time I seen the Thors ensemble in red."
"This is the color they use for my class, Class Vll."
"These must be your classmates."
"Indeed. These are about half of my classmates from Class Vll."
We begin to introduce ourselves to the eye-patch lieutenant general.
"Haha. Seems like your classmates are as interesting a bunch as I'd Heard." The Lietendant General chuckled. "I'm Zechs Vander, commanding officer of the Imperial Army's 3rd Armored Division. Pleased to finally meet you." He formally greeted.
"One eye Zech!?" Rean look surprised
"So, you're one of the guardians of the Arnor family." Jusis said.
"Guardians?" I asked.
"The Vanders are a celebrated Military family responsibly for the protection of the Imperial Family." Jusis explain. "And 'One-Eyed' Zechs Vander is said to be one of the Imperial Army's finest generals."
"Ah."
"They say the Vander and the Arseid schools of swordsmanship are the two most renowned style in Erebonia… It's… It's truly an honor to meet you, sir." Rean added
"Haha. I'm just a military man. Hardly deserving of quite that level of praise. I'd love to hear about all of you and your excursion to the highlands, but unfortunately, we don't have the time. You should set out as soon as possible if you want to reach the settlement by nightfall."
"I agree." Gaius replied. "Were you able to take care of all of the arrangements?"
"I did, rest assured." Zech nodded. "Just follow me and I'll show you the way."
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies)
We followed him through small corridor and then we found ourselves at the outdoors of the base. In our view was a massive green field with a few hills and mountains. This I have never seen before from my restricted home. The sun was beginning to set and we walked with Vander who showed us a group of four horses being looked after by the soldiers.
"Ah, horses!" I cheerfully look so happy. "I love riding horses."
"We're to travel to the settlement on horseback?" Jusis asked
"The highlands are way too vast to cover in any reasonable length of time on foot." Gaius replied. "You'll be fine. You and Levi are members of the Riding Club, and Rean and Alisa have riding experience, right?"
"Y-Yeah." Alisa said. "I think I can manage."
"I learned back at home, so I should be okay as long as we aren't making any trick jumps or anything." Rean added.
"But there are five experience riders and four horses. So one of us has to ride with the person." Jusis pointed out.
"Not to worry." Zechs said. "Since all of you have experience riding horses. I can bring out another one. We have more than enough horses for everyone."
"Then that settles that then." Alisa said.
"Then let's mount up on these horses." Rean said.
Gaius went to the black one in front while Rean and I took the brown one. Well, mine more tan than brown. Or light brown. Jusis took the white one. And then Another horse came and this one is also white. Then Alisa took that one. I couldn't help but feel happy.
"Hehe. "This should be a fun trip." Gaius said.
"I'll say." I smiled. "I'm glad I can ride horses in the plains of Nord again."
"They're all top-quality horses raised here in the highlands. At a good clip, should be able to reach the settlement in under an hour."Zech said. "Oh, and before I forgot." Zechs handed Rean something over. "I'm sure Gaius won't have much need of this, but the rest of you should each take a map of the highlands."
We look at the map Rean had.
"It looks very well detailed." I said.
"Indeed. I hope it'll prove useful during your field study."
"Thank you very much, sir." Rean replied.
"All right, that's about it from me. You should be heading out. May the blessing of the winds and the Goddess be with you. Give my regards to the elder and Lacan."
"We will." Gaius nodded
"Thank you for seeing us off, sir." Alisa smiled.
"If you'll excuse us, then." Jusis said.
"We'll be going now. Ha!" I cheered as we left the Zender gate on horseback.
We galloped at a good pace. Ahh this feeling inside me. This warm feeling.
Rean sigh of awe as he look around with the surrounding. "This is worlds apart from the bustle of the city."
"It really is! I feel like I'm one with the wind!" Alisa nodded.
"Ah this feeling of nostalgia. I can feel all of my stress just vanish away." I smiled cheerfully.
"That should be fortunate news for you Levi. No doubt the Riding Club would be fuming with envy if they could see us now." Jusis said with a smirk.
"Heh, I'll bet." Rean smiled
"Haha… Anyway, my home settlement is due northeast of here. Hopefully, we'll be able to reach it before sundown." Gaius smiled
"Roger that." I smiled.
As gallop throw the plain. I couldn't help but feel happier for some reason. Maybe I'm homesick? Or that what happen with Patrick just washed away? But still, pissed at him.
"Yoohoo!" Alisa called as her voice echoed through the field.
"Hehe. That's the spirit Alisa. Woohoo!" I replied as my voice echoed through the field.
We kept on galloping with Gaius leading the way, passing by a large stone hill and a small mountain before traversing through a narrow field.
"So… which way do we go?" Rean asked.
"The plains are so vast that it's surprisingly easy to lose your sense of direction." Jusis added.
"Sorry… wish I can help... I haven't been familiar with this area." I sighed
"It'd help if I showed you a couple major landmarks to help you get your bearings." Gaius said as he pointed to the location of Zender Gate. "Over that way is Zender Gate. That's where we set out from." Then we look at the mountain to the left of us. "That landmark over there is Triangular Rock. It's sort of a centerpiece of this part of the highlands."
'It's really massive isn't it…' I thought.
"The father away we can see t from, the better of a landmark it'll be." Rean said.
Alisa spotted the building from the distant. "Oh, what's that building over to the left of it?"
"Oh, that? It's the watchtower built by the Imperial army in the southeastern part of the highlands. Heard they built it to keep an eye on the Calvard Republic out to the east."
So maybe that's why Master doesn't want me to come here… maybe?
"I suppose it should come as no surprised that the army would want a watchtower here." Jusis said.
"True. The highland borders both Calvard and Erebonia, much like Crossbell." Rean said.
"Yep. And finally." Gaius said as we turn our head next to stone hill. "If you look towards those mountains, my home is out in that direction."
"Ah, got'cha." Rean nodded.
"Let's take a look at the map." Alisa suggested and then Rean pull out the map and and we begin to take a look at it. Okay, I think I have a better idea where everything is now."
"It seems like we ought to deep this map handy until we're more familiar with the highlands, though." Rean said.
He has a point. Since this place is so vast. I need to remember where and what is. And… to see if I can find home. But… no… not only that… I sense higher elements from here too… how strange. I turn to the direction and then notice something.
"Hey Gaius. Those stone pillars over there…" I pointed on the right. "What are they?
"Oh. Now that you point them out, I'm surprised I didn't notice them before." Alisa replied
"They seem man-made, or at the very least, not the sort of construct nature would leave lying around." Jusis stated
"There are quite a few similar objects and structures scattered across the highlands. Most folks think they're what remains of the Neolitchic civilization that existed here over a thousand years ago."
Hmm… how interesting as well… yet I can feel something special with those ruins…
"I'm not surprised you're curious about them, but we should save that discussion for later. Right now, we need to reach the settlement before sundown." Gaius said.
"Oh, right. The more we wait here. The Sun is going down." I replied.
Then we begin to resume galloping on the vast land of the highland. Ahh… exploring the highland sure brings back memories. I love riding horses. Soon we begin to cross the hillside.
"The sun's almost down…" Jusis said.
"We're almost at the settlement. Let's keep up the pace, guys." Gaius said.
"Roger that." 'I never been here before… what else is new…' I said and thought.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Nomadic Settlement)
Once we traveled on the plain field, we saw a settlement in the distance, we slowed down on the horses and approached the settlement. When we past through the wooden entrance gate, we parked our horses near a wooden pole and got off them.
"Ah, so this is your settlement Gaius." I said as I smile. "Seeing the Yurts again brings back memories."
"Yeah, it may not be what some of you are accustomed to, but it's my home." Gaius replied.
"So these tents are called… Yurts, was it?" Rean asked
"Yep. They're made with thick cloth, and designed so we can put them up and take them down pretty , let me show you to my home first. Then we can go and greet the elder after-"
Then we heard a little girl's voice just now and turn to see a little girl, a middle girl and a boy that ran up to Gaius and hugged him.
"You finally came back!" The girl cheered.
"Welcome home! We missed you so much!" The middle girl said.
"Hey, Lily, Sheeda, I'm back." Gaius replied. "Good to see you're looking well, Thoma."
"Haha. Glad you made it back safe." The boy smiled "It's good to see you again, bro."
This truly is a nice scene. So this is a family of siblings. Gaius… you are a lucky man… And yet… why do I feel so sad again as I sad smile away.
"Oh, hey. Are these the people you wrote about in your letters?" The boy asked as that got my attention.
"They are indeed. The illustrious, industrious Class Vll." Gaius nodded as he temporally stop hugging his youngest sister and then begin to introduce his siblings to us.
The boy is name Thomas. The middle girl is Sheede and the youngest is Lily. And then we introduce ourselves.
"Oh, so you're the boy who was found in Nord?" Thomas asked me.
"That's me." I answered with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you. Are you Erebonian?"
"Me?"
"Yep. I mean it's strange that you were found in Nord. But that is what made us so curious about you." Lily said.
"Well it is strange how I was found but I'm don't know if I am-"
"Haha. I'm glad to see you've been blessed with such wonderful friends."
And then came in was a man tall as Gaius and a woman in Nomads outfit.
"Dad, Mom. I'm home." Gaius smiled.
"Welcome home Gaius." The mother smiled. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you all. I'm Gaius's mother, Fatma."
Whoa! She's so young!
"I'm Gaius's father, Lacan Worzel. I'm very glad to meet my son's friends and schoolmates." Gaius's father introduce himself.
"It's a pleasure, sir." Rean said.
"Likewise." Jusis nodded.
I've prepared a place for all of you to stay while you're our guests." Lacan said. "There is much to discuss, of course, but you should drop off your belongings, there first. It Will soon be sundown. Come to my home and share in our evening meal."
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Warm Supper)
We nodded and then we begin to follow them. As time flies as it turn night. We all gathered into a larger yurt and, and there was a lot of food. The food like this… it is… really nostalgic. I couldn't help it but feel so much joy. It's like… I'm home…
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Evening Moments)
As time flies. It was the beginning of night time and the five of us were in a settlement home that was prepared for us.
"Sorry. I know Alisa probably would've preferred separate rooms, but this is what we've got." Gaius said.
"Oh, don't worry about it." Alisa replied.
"We're gentlemen so we wouldn't dare betray Alisa's trust in us. Otherwise we end up an arrow to the shoulder." I replied.
And that made us a lightly laugh.
"You'll be staying at your family's place, then?" Rean asked.
"My brother and sisters insisted on it, I couldn't turn them down." Gaius answered. "Will it be alright if I wake you guys up at sunrise?"
"Yeah, that's okay." Alisa responded.
"Okay, pleasant dreams, everyone." Gaius said as he began to leave.
"Yeah, goodnight, Gaius." Rean replied.
Gaius left and the rest of us agreed to call it a night...except for me, I chose to stay out for some fresh air. As I headed out. I begin to head to the entrance to the settlement a few distances from the gate but not too far. I looked up at the sky. Recalling Jusis's brother, Alisa's mother, and now Gaius's family. And then recall those painful words from Patrick…
"Jealousy hit me once again…" I close my eyes. "They have families, while I don't. Master Makarov… he was just someone who took care of me. How I envy my classmates…" Then I pull out my Lyre. "I'm back at Nord… and the wind is with me. Still… I'm such an Emotional Tourist…" Then I begin to play the Lyre.
(Genshin Impact ost Tender Strength)
As I play. I can feel the winds of Nord gentle. After I was done playing. I let out a sign.
Dateline, June 27th, 1204.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost Refreshing Morning.)
I woke up early then Rean as the others. This is just like how it was back at my restricted home. The fresh air, the birds chipping. Soon Rean woke up and now here comes our friend Gaius and after having an early breakfast, his father, Jacan, handed us over a list of tasks for our study.
"So we've gotta gather up some herbs, delivery, and we have to see the general guy at Zender Gate because of a monster." I hummed. "Sounds challenging enough." 'Although the herb part was nostalgic. I got to stop using that word...
"All right, we've got work to do." Rean said.
"So we need to finish all of these tasks, then return here by noon?" Alisa asked.
Gaius nodded. "Yep, we'll be having lunch back here in the settlement."
"We should probably travel on horseback like yesterday." I suggested. "We did have to travel quite a way."
"Well advised." Jacan agreed. "May the blessing of the winds and the Goddess be with you."
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Nomadic Settlement)
We left the family home and looked over the two tasks.
"So Rean, same method as usual?" I asked.
He nodded. "Yeah, let's talk to Amr about the herbs and then go and see the General about the monster later."
"Amr lives in that house right there." Gaius said as he led the way.
He walked in with the rest of us going in.
"Oh, hey there, Gaius. I see your friends from the academy are here too." The man greeted. "Good to meet you all. I'm Amr, this settlement's doctor of sorts."
"Sounds like a tough job." Rean replied.
"We're here to know about the herbs you'd like us to gather." I added.
"Of course, let me explain." Amr replied. "I'm in the middle of whipping up some medicine for the horses here, you see. I'd like you to collect a medicinal herb I need for that."
"Is it for their immune system?" I asked
"Yes, that's right. I'm surprised you know that."
"Well it is something my grandfather told me and my study. After all, the chances of the disease spreading are always at their high during the summer too, cause of the intense heat."
"Right. It's dangerous enough to be fatal if we leave it alone." Gaius added.
"That's terrible." Rean said.
"The good news is that It can be properly treated." I said. "So what type of herbs are we looking for?"
"Some epona grass for me." Amr answered. "Just look for some plants with yellow flowers in the southern regions of the highlands. You shouldn't have too much of an issue finding it with Gaius around, at least. I terms of how many I need, I think five should do it."
"Five epona grass to collect, got it." I nodded.
"We'll head out now, Amr." Gaius said.
Amr smiled. "Thanks, and good luck."
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies)
We left the home and then got on the horses. We galloped down the narrow field and then saw a long stalk of yellow flowers. That's the Epona grass.
"Oh, there they are." I pointed at the yellow flowers.
"Yeah, that's epona grass." Gaius answered. "But we'll need to be careful, they can be very delicate when pulling them from the ground." He got off the horse and went over to it. "Here, allow me." He gently pulled the grass stalk out and pocketed it in small pouch.
"Guess we'll let you handle in pulling out the grass." Alisa said.
"Yeah, you can count on me."
We then explored the entire field and looking for four more of the epona grass. When we found a third one, Then the fourth, and then soon we found the final epona grass in total.
"Well, that should be more than enough." Rean said. "Let's take them back to Amr."
"Right, let's go back." I nodded.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Nomadic Settlement)
We ride back to the settlement and then to Amr's home.
"Welcome back. Seems like you all made it back in one piece." Amr said.
"Yeah, no issues here." Rean replied. "Can you check to make sure we collected the right thing?"
"Sure give it here."
Gaius handed the grass over to him.
"Yep, these are what I'm looking for. Thanks a lot. You've saved me the hassle of getting them myself."
"Hehe, it was our pleasure." Alisa said.
"I take it things are preparing well in regards to making the medicine?" Jusis asked.
"Yup. All I need to do is add this grass now." Amr answered. "Granted, I still need to wait until it's properly mixed in, so it'll be a while yet until it's ready. It should be done by tonight, though. So I'll make sure all the horses have it then."
"Thanks for all your hard work." Gaius said.
"No problem. Oh right, here is your reward."
Amr gave Rean a quartz and the task was complete. Now we had to go over to Zender Gate and meet with the Zechs guy. We got back on the horses and made our way over to the large gate building and got off the horses by the entrance.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Iron Command)
We went inside and followed Gaius who took a left turn and then turned right at the corner and then through the doors at the end where we stepped into an office and saw the general.
"Thank you for coming." He said. "Looks like you were able to get a good night's rest after your long journey."
"Well, it's thanks to those horses you gave us." I replied. "Some of us had the time of our lives whilst riding them though."
"Hmhm, of course." He cleared his throat. "Are you ready for me to explain what I need you to do?"
"It was something about hunting down a dangerous monster that's been sighted here, right?" Rean asked.
"Indeed. It's a ferocious beast and a dangerous one. I've had reports coming in of people being attacked on their way across the highlands."
"That doesn't sound good at all." I said.
"Is it possible to send the army after it?" Alisa asked.
"My first thought was to do exactly that." Zechs answered. "Unfortunately, it never stays in one place for too long. As such, we were initially unable to pinpoint a specific location where we could mount an operation against it."
"When you consider how vast the plains are, hunting a target that's constantly moving isn't an easy task." Gaius said.
I hummed. "Well, we should be able to find it since we have a good eye for things."
"Good to hear." Zechs replied. "I would like you to find and eliminate the monster as swift as possible."
"Understood. Leave it to us." Gaius nodded. "We won't let you down."
"Excellent. I'm counting on you, then."
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies.)
We left his office and then the building and getting on the horse to start the search. We galloped away and started searching for the large monster. I was able to see something near the basin area of the field. We traveled to the area and noticed a giant fish swimming around the area. Wait… I encounter this fish before.
"I remember these giant fish from before. I fought them a long time ago too and awhile back. We should be careful." I told my group.
"Yeah, let's make sure we're fully prepared before we engage it." Rean replied.
"Right...Jusis, combat link with me."
Jusis nodded. "Right."
(Trails of Cold Steel Ost - Tie a Link of ARCUS)
The battle started and Rean and Alisa attacked first, eliminating the small fishes. Gaius helped us out on support as Jusis and I took out the last of the small fishes with my craft Vortex Plunger. Twice the damage they got and Jusis moved in for the kill, showing us his special skill for the first time. The battle was done and the monster was gone.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies)
"Nice one Jusis. You fought with elegant and virtue." I smiled.
"I could say the same with you. Excellent combat link." Jusis said with a smirk.
"Thanks, you were pretty good too."
"Looks like that takes care of our task." Rean said. "We should return to Zender Gate and report to the lieutenant-general."
We agreed and traveled straight back to the building and into the office to report.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Iron Command)
"So you were able to defeat the beast?" Zechs asked. "Excellent work. I really appreciate your assistance. Here's your reward for a job well done, you've earned it."
Rean was given a quartz and that was the second task done.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies)
We left the building and noticed the sky getting brighter. Looks like the morning was ending. But as we ride. We begin to see someone else on horseback. There was a young man around our age who was being chased by a monster called the Rinocider.
"That guy is being chased by that monster!" Alisa exclaimed
"Come on, let's go help him!" Rean stated.
We agreed and then we ride our way to hurry to that guy being chased. Soon we made it and then we begin to take on the monsters. But two more of them appeared. We begin to battle them and using most of our Crafts and Arts on them. And then few minutes later. We defeated them. Not only that. I can feel my Master Quartz level up and i gain something new. I'll check that out in a moment.
"Phew. You save me there. Thank you." The guy sigh of relief as he dismount from the horse and approached us.
The guy appears to be around our age. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Wearing blue tights, a casual white shirt with a yellow jacket, and brown shoes.
Huh... I felt... a strange feeling all of the sudden.
"Of course. We're just glad that we saw you from a distance." Rean said.
He then look at us. "Hmm… those uniforms… are you from Thors by any chance?" I asked
And that surprised us.
"That's right we are." Alisa said.
"How do you know that?" I asked
"Oh, a friend of mine goes there. I even saw the uniform. But I have never seen a red uniform before." I said. "Ah, sorry. Where are my manners." He scratches my head. "My name is Liam. I'm a traveler from Nord. So who are you guys?"
"Oh. My name is Rean Schwarzer." Rean introduce himself.
And then the rest of us introduce to this Liam guy.
"Nice to meet you all. I wasn't expecting to meet someone like Lord Jusis here. What are you guys doing here in Nord if you don't mind me asking."
"Oh, we're here on our field studys." Rean answered
"Field study? That's a thing now?" Liam asked
"Well, it was recently, as well as our class."
"Ah. That was… interesting. Still… I owe you guys for saving me." I sigh
"So what is someone of our age doing here?" I asked.
"Oh just exploring Nord and looking into that ruins over there." I answered as I turn to those pillars as they went to get the epona grass.
"You were?" Alisa asked
"Yep. There is something about that ruins that caught my attention. It has full of mysteries and history, don't you think?" Liam smiled.
"True. It has been around for 1000 years." Gaius nodded.
"Right. And I'm not so sure if you notice, but did you felt something within those stone ruins?"
"Like what?" I asked
"Like some mysterious power within those ruins."
"Mysterious power?" Rean asked
"Hmm… never mind. I'm getting carried away." Liam shrug. "Oh. I should thank you all for saving me earlier. So here. Take these." Liam then reach his pockets and handed out Special Quarts. There are 5 each. Youkai Gem, Deus Gem, Detection, Diabolos Gem, Zeus Gem, Mars Gem, Sennin Gem, and Acala Gem each of them.
"Holy- thats's a lot of Quartz!" Alisa exclaimed.
"And some of them are quire rare. How did you get your hands on these?" Jusis asked.
"I made them. Although it was hard work." Liam answered
"Whoa, are you an Orbal engineer?" Rean asked
"You can say that. Oh. I should get going. If we get the chance. Let's meet up again. Thank Class Vll." Liam wink and then hurry back to his horse and then mount up and gallop away.
After that handsome guy left. We look at the Quarts he gave us… wait… he call us Class Vll… we never said our class name!
"Whoa… that is… rather generous of him." Alisa said.
"Yes. Still, these Quarts are hard to come by." Gaius nodded
"Um, guys…" I called out.
"What's up Levi?" Rean asked
"Well… he just call us Class Vll just now… how did he exactly know that?"
Then the group thought for a moment and now they click in.
"Hey wait… that's right!" Alisa exclaimed but the guy name Liam already gone.
While I was thinking… I don't know why but… something about him… it's… how do I explain this? Mysterious? But... what was that feeling just now?
"We'll figure out how he knows from another time. Right now. We should head back." Rean said.
We nodded and climb back our horses and ride away. We went to Gaius's family home to let Lacan know.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Nomandic Settlement)
"Hmm, I see you've finished all of this morning's tasks." He said.
"Yes. And it gave us a huge and lovely tour of the highlands." I replied. "It is a double benefit."
"I am delighted to hear that." Fatma, said. "I'm sure you must be starving after riding all over the plains all morning."
"Oh that smells wonderful." I replied. "The scent is starting to make me even hungrier."
It was then lunchtime and we took a seat around the stove with me next to Emma and we tucked into lunch consisting of bread and kebabs, followed by a refreshing tea made by Sheeda.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - The Comfort of One's Home)
"Ahhh...how I bless life." I sighed of satisfaction
"I still want to eat more...but my stomach is protesting" Alisa nodded. "That naan flatbread you made was really delicious. It taste so fresh, too."
Fatma giggled. "I baked it on a kind of collapsible stove.I'm glad you like it. I doubt you see bread like that much in the Empire."
Gaius nodded. "Yeah, must've been practicing quite a bit while I've been away."
"Your tea etiquette was perfect as well. I hope you will continue to learn and improve." Jusis replied
"Th-Thank you." Sheede respond
"Heehe. Sheeda got praised by the cool boy." Lily giggled
Lacan chuckled. "It looks like you were able to recover your strength. Hopefully, you're about ready to start about the afternoon's task."
"Oh, yes! Of course." Rean nodded. "Shall we get started on the clearing up first, then?"
"Oh, you don't need to worry yourselves with that." Fatma replied
Soon after the nice homing meal. Lacan handed an envelope to us. We had a look at the paper and there was only one task to do.
"This afternoon, I'd like you to turn your attention toward the northern highlands. You may need to travel to the south as well, though, which will give you a lot of ground to cover. I left some fresh horses near the northern exit, so just head out that way when you're ready to leave."
"Thank you." Rean nodded. "All right, everyone, let's do this."
"We should swing by and visit the elder first, since he's the client for our only essential request this afternoon." Gaius said.
(Trails of Cold steel ost - Nomadic Settlement)
We got up and left the home and Gaius to the home where the elder lived, we went inside and spoke with Elder Ivan.
"Welcome." He greeted. "I assume you've seen our request?"
"It mentioned that a cameraman's made his way out of the settlement on his own." Rean replied.
"That's correct. He goes by the name of Norton, and is currently residing here on a vacation of sorts. I believe he said he works for a company called the Imperial Chronicle."
"I wasn't expecting to hear that name out here." Alisa said.
"He was quite fervent about the idea of taking photographs of something in the northern region of the highlands." Ivan continued. "I planned on having you all escort him there in the afternoon, but apparently, he was unable to wait until then and he took off by horse on his own."
"That was rather reckless of him. What possess him to made him decide that?" I asked.
"There's many ruins from the ancient Neolithic civilization in the northern region of the highlands. It's likely that he went to visit the statue of the Guardian there."
Rean blinked. "Guardian?"
'Wait… does he mean what I think he means?!' I look surprised
"It's one of the most symbolic of ancient relics here in Nord. Legend has it that the Guardian it represents sealed away an evil djinn within the ancient quarry to the north."
"At any rate, we should catch up with him as soon as possible." Gaius said. "Monsters aren't the only reason the northern region can be dangerous."
Ivan hummed. "Hmm, it's not an area those not from Nord should be travelling across alone. Could you please find him for us and keep him safe?"
"Understood, leave it to us." Rean replied.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies)
We left the Elder home. After that we got on the horses. By the north exit, the north area of the highlands was a lot more windier than the south.
"Ahhh, the wind here feels so nice." Alisa said.
"Agreed. It truly is refreshing." I added.
"Oh, that's due to all the sheer cliffs around here. It gives the wind in this area a unique feel." Gaius explained. "The winds take many forms and bestow countless blessings on the people of Nord."
"Makes me wonder if I receive a blessing from the wind."
"Well, i can see why your people place such importance on the wind." Jusis replied.
"Yeah. And the view here's just as nice as the vista in the southwest too." Rean nodded as he look around. "Anyway, if we're all rested up, we should get-" then stop there. I was confused and then look where he is seeing and then my eye widen.
"Whoa..." I eye widen.
"What's wrong?" Alisa asked
"You might want to take a look over there." I pointed and then everyone then see the statue
"What in Aidios's name IS that?" Jusis asked
"I-I have no idea. Some kind of statue, maybe?" Alisa asked.
That Statue... could it be... Lost Zem? The Sep-Terrion of Earth... So... the husk of it really is here.
"Levi, you okay?" Rean asked
I snap out of thought. "Oh, sorry. I was just surprised by that statue."
"Well, I can't say I don't understand the feeling of awe." Alisa sighed. "I wonder how massive it must look when you're up close."
"I'd imagine it's more than likely that the photographer we're seeking is in that area." Jusis replied.
"Yeah I had that same thought as well. We should venture closer." I nodded
"By the way, if you head northeast of the statue, you'll find an ancient quarry." Gaius said. "And to the northwest is the scenic Lake 's always helpful to get the lay of the land, so there's no harm in visiting both of those sites too."
"Hmm, we should look at those when we have time." I replied as the wind is blowing my hair as I close my eyes. "Right now, I believe the winds are calling for us to go to the statue."
Gaius chuckled.
"Makes sense to me." Rean nodded. "All right, let's get moving."
We resumed traveling around the field and upwards, the giant statue was becoming bigger the closer we approached it. Then we can see the mist in the distance.
"There's mist in the distance." Jusis said
"Yeah. It's even higher here than the southern highlands." Rean nodded.
"Hehe, true that." I replied with a smile.
We made a few more turns and then we galloped alongside the river and getting closer to the statue.
"Oh... We made it all the way to where the giant statue is." Alisa replied.
"It looks even more massive the closer we get." Rean nodded
"To get right in front of it, we'll need to go around the cliff." Gaius said.
'Master wasn't kidding about Lost Zem being here. I want to get a closer look at it.' I thought.
As we ride. we continue to take on some monsters along the highland and then my classmates can feel like they're getting more stronger and more experience in battle as i am. Not to mention the Master Quartz. Speaking of it. I need to check on the Master Quartz unlock passive effect. After a lot of monster fights. We continue until we stopped right at the statue. So what is what Lost Zem looks like. But it's nothing more of a Husk now. Humanity back then were so stupid. We noticed a man with a camera and he was taking pictures. He turned around to see us, this must be the Norton guy we heard about.
"Oh hello. What brings you all out here?" Norton asked. "Come to get a good look at the statue too?"
We explained to him why and he asked us to wait till he finished taking photos. And then there's a similar version in Byyonia Island where Group B went. That must be where Ark Rouge husk it. I notice Rean touch his chest. What happen to him? Anyway, So we agreed to wait and then he was done after a while, so he took a ride on Rean's horse back to the settlement. However, when we got back, there was a commotion. We rushed to see a truck that had broken down and crashed into a fence.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Brain-racking Test)
Alisa had a look at the engine which was smoking and she coughed whilst checking inside.
"So...have you managed to figure what the problem is?" I asked.
"It looks like there was a contact failure in the quartz circuits near the engine." Alisa answered. "That's probably why you suddenly had difficulties steering even though it was fine just before."
"I see." Amr said.
"Do you think you can repair it?" Gaius asked
Alisa hummed. "Hmm, I doubt it. I can diagnose, but I'm no technician. I think we'll need to call in a professional to fix it."
The elder and Lacan then arrived, glad that Norton had made it back safe so that task was now complete. However, there was now the problem with the truck. We thought of getting a mechanic from Zender Gate but Lacan mentioned of someone in mind who lives at Lake Lacrima, so that was our next stop. A hermit who move here from the Empire. I notice Alisa was lost in thoughts.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Land of Blue Skies)
We left the settlement and traveled through the north region, riding across the northwest and eventually reaching through a small valley, when we arrived at Lake Lacrima, it was like a natural paradise, there was also a wooden cabin and shed at the far right.
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - The Comfort of One's Home)
"Ah.. I would love to retire here. Oh great. Now I'm acting like an old man." I said. "But no time for that, let's see if the owner is here."
We got off the horses and walked up the stairs to the cabin. Rean knocked on the door and we heard a response before going in. We then saw an elderly man in a summer outfit.
"Hey, it's good to see you again, sir." Gaius said.
"Well, if it isn't Gaius!" He responded. "Haven't seen you around for, what, half a year now? And little Alisa's here, too! Why, I don't think I've seen your face in, oh, must be coming up on five years now!"
"Wait, what?" Rean asked.
Alisa exclaimed loudly. "Grandfather, what are you DOING here?!"
We introduced ourselves to him and he was named Gwyn, Alisa's grandfather. But we chose to move on to why we came here and told him the situation. He agreed to come to the settlement with us, but only on horseback. We left his cabin and he got on Rean's horse before we journeyed back to the settlement. While we were riding. I sense someone was nearby as I turn. I saw someone. But with blue hair from a distance. I couldn't tell who it was. Hmm…
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - Warm Supper)
It was nighttime by the time we got back, Gwyn had done all he could to help repair the engine in the truck and we just had a big meal. I saw Alisa leave the settlement home and Rean went a few seconds later.
And then eventually we learn more about Rean and Alisa since me and the others… Eave dropping. As for me, I wanted to rest and turn in already, so I went back to the guest settlement room and laid down on the bed. For a few minutes, it was all silent. Everyone was asleep.
(BGM ended)
Then I got up and couldn't sleep. I got off the bed and go out for some fresh air once again. Once I left. I went to the entrance to the settlement again and away from a few distance. Once I arrived. I look at the stars at the entrance of the settlement and sighed.
(Genshin Impact - Tender Strength)
I begin to bring out my Lyre and then begin to play. I was playing the same song from yesterday. This music always calm my thoughts. After I finish playing. I let out a sign. Clearly, I'm thinking so much. I can understand why Alisa felt some discomfort but at least Rean was able to help her. Both of them have family problems. Well... Alisa with her mother, Jusis with his father, and now Rean being negative again. Elliot issues with his father because he wanted to go to a music academy. Gaius is different though. Gaius is having fun with his family and siblings. Alisa has a lot on her mind for her mother and grandfather. Losing her father. it's hard. but I can't even sympathize with anything. The only thing I can do is listen and listen to my heart to what it has to say. The only emotions I've ever felt for real are jealousy for other children who have parents, and anger... for the first time. I'm truly am a Hypocrite. I'll never understand any feelings. I wish I know who I am and a family either. Aidios... have I truly been a mistake?
"Is everything alright, Levi?" Rean asked.
(BGM ended)
But I heard and sense Rean's presence. I let my thoughts get to me again.
"Ah…" I put my Lyre away and turn to Rean. "Rean… I guess I got distracted again… Did I woke you up?"
"No. I just woke up suddenly. And when I did. You weren't in your bed." Rean answered. "So I came out to look for you. Is everything alright?"
I close my eyes and then look up in the sky.
"To be honest… I'm not really sure." I answered. "I had to admit with Alisa. That would explain the sudden cold shoulder she and her mother relationship have. But I wasn't thinking about that. It was… something else."
"Like what?" Rean asked.
I place my hand to my left arm as I look upset. "Honestly… It's from that bastard Patrick. Do you recall those hurtful words he said?"
"Ah… it still weighs on your mind, huh?" Rean look sad.
"Not only that… but I was also… jealous." I said.
"Jealous?"
(Trails of Cold Steel ost - The Night Sky On That Day)
"Yeah." I nodded as I turn around and look up. Then raise my hand to the sky. "I'm very jealous of everyone in class Vll."
"Jealous of us? Why?" Rean asked as he blink.
"Because each and every one of you have a family."
I can tell Rean look surprised by my answer.
"Ever since Patrick said those words, calling me a mistake… I couldn't help but want to kill him and tear him to pieces. But… ten years ago… I don't remember anything. I don't remember a childhood. I don't remember who my parents are. Or that I have siblings. Even if I recovered them… why was I in Nord Highland? How was it possible for me to not remember that far? Deep down within my heart. I fear that Patrick's words may have been true. That… I am a mistake." Then I pull my hand down and look at it. "Part of me is in a conflict. One is Patrick may have been right. While the other is wrong. But… I look and learn to see with everyone. Everyone has a family. Whether they are adopted, or by blood. Cold shoulder or love. They still have families. While I… While I don't. I was found in Nord… all naked with no clothes. I don't know who I am… and yet all I remember is my name. I was forced to watch everyone who has a family. And ask myself… why do they have a mother, a father, aunts, uncles, even siblings, and Grandparents. I always think of Makarov as my adopted Grandfather but… he's not. And that was just a masquerade whenever we're in public. I can't help but feel jealous… that I'm becoming an emotional tourist. Feeding off the emotions from other people like a parasite. But I refuse to become one. And yet… all I have been doing right learning the emotions... while the two emotions are actually mine are Anger and jealousy. I called out to Aidios to ask her "Why? Why has my parent's forsaken me? Who am I? Why did they abadon me?!" Those questions were repeated over and over. I don't even feel love… just emotion that I felt for so very long. And that I am an outcast, an actor playing as a human."
"Levi…" Rean sadden.
"I truly hate it… I'm pathetic in every way." I look as my tears couldn't be held back.
"You're not Levi."
I look surprised as I turn to Rean as he approach me and hug me.
"I get it you're suffering about wanting to know who you are. But you should know that you're not a mistake. I don't know what has happen to you. But I do know this. Everyone in our class really cares about you. As well as me." Rean said.
"Wha…"
"When you left the academy field. I don't think you did anything wrong at all. You were right to stick up for us, even Gaius defended you out. Everyone, even Instructor Sara. They understand that you're suffering and your holding them all in. She asks us to look out for you. But not because she ask us. We wanted too. You're someone special Levi. That's why I… no… we are glad to have met someone like you. And we will find out who you are. No matter what it takes."
"Rean…" I look completely shocked and then I couldn't help but felt something. I don't know what it is... I felt like my tears are coming out. I felt... joy... but also sadness... have I felt sadness before... ah.. I did... back when I was in my dorm after the practical exam I couldn't held back my tears anymore.
"There there. It's going to be alright. Let it all out." Rean said as he petting my back.
My arms hug Rean back. I begin to cry again. Just like it was in the dorm's bath. After a few moments of crying. I wipe my tears and look at Rean happy.
"Thank you Rean. I couldn't as for a better friend… Or… my first Erebonian friend." Levi smiled
"Levi…" Rean trailed off then smiled. "Thank you Levi."
"It's getting late. We should get some sleep. "
"Yeah."
Then Rean and I headed to our bed in the guest settlement.
That was some deep moment there. Alisa isn't the only one suffering from this. But Rean has comforted both Levi and Alisa. Poor both of them. Oh yeah, forgot to mention I switch with Emma for this. This just gives a new character profile for Levi. and an update for his Master Quarts.
