"Asami, you sure you don't wanna come with me to a karaoke bar?" Korra asks as she looks around the common room for her keys. "The guys wouldn't mind, more like Bolin would love it if you came. He's been complaining so much that he hasn't seen you often these past days. He's always like 'Asami's such a workaholic' this and 'she works too much' that. It's kinda getting tiresome not gonna lie, Opal's even comin' too."
Asami turns to face Korra from the couch. She was seated with her feet crossed and laptop on her lap. "I appreciate the offer but no thanks." She then stretches out tall before cracking her neck side to side. After that, she rolls her wrist before pushing up her glasses on her face. "Exams are right around the corner and all my class got some paper or assignment due."
Korra scrunhes her nose at that. "Ouch, that sounds rough buddy. Honestly, I'd say it'd be nice and fine if you took a break even just for one night. Haven't you been pulling all-nighters this past week too?"
Her roommate sighs at that. "Yeah but it's not like I have a choice. Engineering courses are extensive."
"True… you do have all those advanced calc and physics classes."
"Yup." She then rubs her temples. "That's not including my business classes too. All the stupid papers and stupid assessments I have to write for such a simple topic and the amount of research he wants for it… who the hell wants five academic resources for simple business interactions! Hah! Why I ought a…" she starts mumbling with a heavy face.
Wincing at that, Korra cringes at the pain. "I'm sorry I asked. Anyways, I'm not sure when I'll be home but I was planning to get some take-out on the way back. You want something?"
That was the first time the bags under Asami's eyes seemed to brighten up. "Would you? Please! Thank you so much, you're such an angel Korra."
"Of course, I got you, I just feel bad that you're being left out… Maybe we can all try to go again another time?"
"Oh no no no," Asami starts shaking her head persistently. "As nice as that sounds, I really really suck ass at singing. I sound like a horse-mule crossing through a muddy swamp with porcupines stuck all over its back."
Snorting at that imagery, Korra laughed out loud. "Oh come on, you can't be that bad."
Asami swats her hand in denial. "I am that bad. You should've seen the horror on my parents' faces when I was younger… they looked so shocked and I'm still traumatized to this day!" She jokes with a slightly guilty smile.
"Okay okay fine, I heard you loudddd and clear, miss tone-deaf. Karaoke bars are out. Next time, I'll just have to drag you to the theaters or something instead."
"Trust me Korra, I'm doing you a favor. My voice will wreak havoc like no other."
With a chuckle, Korra finally puts on her sneakers before giving Asami one last look. "If you say so." She then looks at Asami one last time, "Where's Kuvira?"
"Her boyfriend's."
"Ahhh… she won't be back for a while then. Oh well, guess, I'll be off then."
"Alright sounds good, have fun and stay safe."
Korra gives her a happy grin. "Will do! Don't study too hard okay? And don't forget to shower too! I don't want to come back home to you looking like a hairy hobbit again because spirits did you scare the shit out of me."
"Pfft—" Asami starts cracking up. "Excuse me for having bad bed hair."
Clicking her tongue playfully, Korra throws her a wink. "That's why I cut all of mine off."
Asami just rolls her eyes. "Whatever, get out of here you dork."
She sticks her tongue out, "Guilty as charged!"
xXx
"Shit…" Korra whispers as she carefully unlocks the door. "It's so late…"
She pushes the door open with the side of her body. After she somehow quietly maneuvers herself into the door while protecting her big take-out bag, she peeks inside with her lips puckered.
"Sami's not asleep is she…?"
Seeing that the couch was empty, Korra places down the food on the kitchen counter before noting her laptop, on the table and closed shut. Meaning… she probably finished her papers. The only question is, where was she now? Shuffling over to their shared room, Korra pokes her head into the room.
Nope.
Her ears finally perk up at the sound of the shower. "Ahh… a shower huh." Korra then raises an eyebrow before glancing at her watch. "At 1 AM though…" she blinks before she picks up another noise. "Wait a sec…" making her way closer to the bathroom door, Korra's mouth drops a bit. "No. Fucking. Way."
Several exaggerated steps later, Korra is standing in front of the door. "I-Is she singing?!"
Humming softly, Asami's voice blends with the water droplets falling out from the showerhead. "Watashi no negai… watashi no negai wa tada… dou ka, anata ga, shiawase de… arimasu yo ni…"
Korra's mouth was hung the entire time she stood there listening to Asami. Then not after long, she starts singing the next song.
"Sakura hirahira maiorite ochite… yureru omoi no take wo dakishimeta… kimi to haru ni negai shi ano yume wa… ima mo, miete iru yo, sakura maichiru…"
"Bruh…"
Lost for words Korra stood there like a creeper, listening to Asami's amazing and phenomenal voice. Never would she have guessed that Asami had such an angelic voice. Especially after all the insisting Asami had told her. Goosebumps formed and she even felt shivers go down her spine. Given, Korra didn't exactly understand what she was singing since she was singing in Japanese, but, even she wasn't dumb enough to not know how amazing she is.
Sometime after Asami had gotten out of the shower and turned off the music, she was in the middle of humming her last chorus when she reached for the doorknob. "Zutto ira ira ira ira shite wa atashi wo mono mitai ni atsukatte—" she finally opens the door before immediately almost running into Korra's face. She yelps before swearing, "Holy shit—" she stumbles back in shock.
"Korra—what the hell! You scared the shit out of me! Why are you just standing in front of the bathroom! Without turning the lights on to…?" She blinks repeatedly before giving her friend a confused look.
When Korra doesn't respond, Asami just frowns slightly. "Hello? Earth to Korraaaaaa." She then zooms in close to her face before waving her hand in her face. "You there?"
Twitching back to reality, Korra shuts her mouth before swallowing. She happens to notice a droplet of water dripping down Asami's neck and her eyes naturally follow it. When it gets absorbed into Asami's tee-shirt, she quickly shakes her head with a slight blush before slapping her cheeks. She then ignores Asami's judging face before snapping at her.
"You said you were tone deaf!" She accuses, making Asami twitch and take a step back.
"W-What?" She still didn't know where this was going.
"You liar! You hella lied to me!" Korra starts shuffling forward, making her roommate back up into the bathroom.
"Korra, I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to expand? Because I—"
"You said you couldn't sing so what was that!"
Asami just rolls her eyes. "What was what?"
Korra scoffs as if what she heard was ridiculous. "You. Singing. In. The. Shower. Just now. What. Was. That."
"Ah—" Finally realizing what she meant, Asami blushed. "Y-You heard me?"
"Duuhhh!" Korra exclaims, "Why didn't I know this before! More like how did I not notice?" She half yells but mostly at herself. "You're so good at singing!"
Asami winces as she shrivels back. "Stop exaggerating Kor, it's just some harmless shower singing." She stop pushes past her friend before making her way into the kitchen for a glass of milk.
Korra follows her because there was no way she was letting this hidden talent slide. "I am not dropping this Asami! I'm not kidding, you're seriously amazing!"
As she poured herself a glass of milk, Asami's twitching eyebrow never stopped. "And I think something's wrong with your ears!" She then downs her glass of milk before peaking into the bag of takeout. "You got my favorite dumplings?"
"Yup!" Korra grins before plopping down onto the nearby stool. "We need to go together when you're not busy now."
Asami glares at Korra as she pops up the container box. "Sorry to break the news but I'll pass. Besides…" She then plops a piece of dumpling into her mouth and chews on it before swallowing. "It sounds like a hassle. Everyone's schedules are always messed up anyways. Didn't it take you a month to get together?"
"Then just the two of us! Me and you. Whenever you get the chance! That way you can sing all the weeb songs you like!" Korra then throws a wink at her for safe measures.
Asami's cheeks turned pink at that comment. "I wasn't weebing out!"
"Sure you weren't." She had this smug grin on her face. "I may not understand Japanese but I know for a fact that was some anime song because what else would a closeted weeb such as yourself sing if not that?"
Rolling her eyes, Asami snatched her takeout before bringing it to her room, which she shared with Korra. "Whatever, doesn't change the fact that I suck!"
"No, you don't!" Korra sings back to tease. "You sound amazing Sami! I really love your voice!" The last thing she heard was Asami slamming the door shut.
Laughing happily, Korra sunk onto the counter in disbelief. "Seriously though… that was amazing."
xXx
"I can't believe I let you drag me here…" Asami grimaces as she watches Korra type in a random song number into the machine.
"And I still can't believe you have such an amazing voice boo!" Finally satisfied with her lineup, Korra turns to face Asami before handing her one of the mics. "Since it's just the two of us, we're gonna sing till we drop!"
Asami's groans only deepen. "Don't I really have to?"
"Korra starts tapping her foot to the beat. "No, you don't have to butttt, if you do, I promise to bug you less. Wooh!" She then starts singing the song. "I wake up to the sounds of the silence that allows… for my mind to run around with my ear up to the ground…"
One heavy sigh later, Asami just hesitantly raises the mic to her lips. "Don't blame me if your eyes bleed out."
Her friend only throws her a wink. "Challenged accepted."
An hour or two later, their time was up and they were out the door. As they walked back to their dorms, Korra felt like she had been bamboozled. She still looked like she was processing her thoughts.
"You… but…" she spares Asami a glance, "No… what… but…"
Asami just sniffles before rubbing her nose. "See, I told you I suck."
Korra still wasn't anymore coherent. "But— you were so amazing when you were showering but then…" she replayed that wonderful high-pitched squeak and oh so wonderful on pitch high keynotes. One sigh later, she deflates. "I don't get it…"
"And how many times have I told you that I suck?"
"Well that's…"
"Uhuh, that's what I thought. You've been pestering me for weeks now so do you finally believe me? I told you, I. Can't. Sing."
Korra gives Asami a steady look. "I just…" they exchange a silent look before she deadpans. "Can't believe you're right."
Asami just snorted. "Told you so."

Tossing a kernel of popcorn into her mouth, Korra continues to scroll through Netflix's homepage. She just finished her assignments and was currently brain dead. By the time she makes one full rotation, Asami finally comes back from her class and opens the door.
"I'm back." She shuts the door before taking off her shoes.
"Welcome backkkk." She tosses another kernel into her mouth before falling onto her side and tilting her head at her friend. "How was class?"
"The usual," Asami answers before setting her backpack down on the floor. "Where's Kuvira?"
"Boyfriend's."
"Ah…"
Once Asami was settled, she tousled her hair. "I'm gonna shower."
"Sounds like a plan," Korra responds with a pop. She was bored out of her mind and like usual, none of these shows were ringing a bell. That's why she choose five random shows on the screen before commenting out loud. "One through five."
Asami finishes grabbing a change of clothes before entering the bathroom. "Three."
"Mmh…" Korra then clicks on her mental note number three. "Rise of the Guardians it is." She then finally sits back up before munching away on her popcorn. Shortly after the movie starts playing, the water from the shower starts running. After a moment, her ears couldn't help but twitch. Out of curiosity, Korra glances at the door.
Of course… Asami singing fills the showerroom. "Oshiete oshiete yo, sono shikumi wo… boku no naka ni… dare ga iru no, kowareta kowareta yo kono sekai de… kimi ga warau, nanimo miezu ni."
"Bruh." Korra's mouth drops in disbelief. "But— at the karaoke she… ah." That's when a realization hit her. "Wait… maybe she can only sing in Japanese?" She stares at the door intently before finally cracking. "Pfft—" she starts laughing happily. "Spirits this woman is something."
Grinning like a dork, Korra just saviors the moment. She closes her eyes to enjoy this moment and it wasn't until Asami was done with her shower and was out that Korra went back to watching her movie. After Asami settles down next to Korra's side, she notices Korra's strange look before raising her eyebrow.
"What's up with you?"
Korra just had a pleased smile on her face. "Nothing."
"Ooookay?" She then glances down at Korra's lap before asking, "Can I have some popcorn?"
"Help yourself." Korra then slides over the bowl. "You know… you are one hell of a woman you know that?"
Asami just tenses slightly before pursing her lips. "What's this all of a sudden?"
"Nothing."
"I don't believe you…" Asami just gives her a sleazy look before eating a small handful of popcorn.
Korra just spares her a glance before grinning slightly. "I just really love you that's all."
Asami immediately blushes at that comment before turning away. "O-Okay…?"
"I really do Sami, you're amazing." One happy grin later, Korra faces the TV again.
"T-Thanks… I guess." Feeling somewhat bashful, Asami starts rubbing her cheek. "I uh… love you too."
They end up watching the movie together mostly in silence. Of course, they shared some fun comments here and there but the entire time, Korra couldn't help but feel giddy knowing Asami's hidden talent. Maybe one day, she could convenience her friend to go with her to a karaoke bar again but this time, with anime music. That would be for another time of course. Songs in English were one thing but, Korra would full-heartedly go down arguing that Asami was an amazing singer.
After all… she is truly a muse in the shower.
