The Case of the Plunged Puffalos
At Country Corral, Buckaroo was organizing her papers while placing her signature magnifying glass in her pocket, preparing for an upcoming mystery, when she heard a knock on the door. When Buckaroo went to go answer the door, who it was turned out to be a big surprise, or better yet, WHAT it was turned out to be a big surprise.
Standing in front of the doorway was a baby Puffalo, which let out a cute "Baa," as Buckaroo smiled and picked it up, saying, "Awwww, hello there, sugar. Where did ya come from"?
Suddenly, she saw Holly and Gust, both out of breath, as Gust exclaimed from the top of his exhausted lungs, "There...he...is," before he and Holly fell over tiredly, groaning in exhaustion.
Buckaroo chuckled and approached them, asking, "Y'all wouldn't happen ta be chasin' this here cutie now would ya"?
Holly got up, wiping the sweat off her forehead while replying, "Y'all are correct, Buckaroo; that there baby's been makin' us chase aftuurr it fastuurr than ayy Trollin' on ayy sugar high."
The baby Puffalo nestled into Buckaroo's arms while the detective smiled, replying, "Whel, ay'm sure this little fella didn't mean ta, now did ya, ya lil' nugget," as the Puffalo baby nodded before sticking its tongue out at Gust and Holly.
Gust got up and brushed the dirt off his clothes while saying, "Buckaroo, y'all really got ayy way with Puffalos; it's laake they just seem ta always faand ayy way ta ya, ayn' y'all always seem ta know just what ta do."
Buckaroo answered, "Ay took care ov ayy lot ov Puffalos back on my family's farm, ayn' evuurr since ay was ayy young buckling, somehow, ay always seemed ta have ayy natural affiliation with Puffalos, but never really understood why. Perhaps it's just ayy nature's phenom. Now, let's get this lil fella back ta its mama," and started to walk with the baby Puffalo in her arms while Holly and Gust followed the detective.
At the Puffalo Ranger's house, the main farm Troll, who was a dark-green skinned country Troll with a white beard, brown floppy farmer's hat, blue eyes, pink nose, who wore a red shirt and tan overalls, placed the baby Puffalo back in the pen, as it ran back to its mama, while he said, "Thanks, y'all faw gettin' that there kid back. Ay don't know why my Puffalos have been escaping the pen recently. Ay'm luckily ta catch up ta them, but they're always faandin' ayy way ta jump out ayn' escape, ayn' ay don't know why."
Buckaroo looked at the fencing around the pen while saying, "Whel, if y'all want my honest opinion, they seem pretty crowded in this here pen; look at how bunched together they are," while pointing to how close the Puffalos were all standing next to each other.
Buckaroo then said, "They're so close, it'd be easy faw them ta just claamb onta one anothuurr ayn' leap ovuurr the fence ta escape. Ay've seen this happen ayy lot on my family fam, ayn' often, we always had ta drop ever'thing ta go aftuurr the ones that run away. Ay'd recommend buildin' ayy biguurr pen so they all have mawe room ta roam ayn' stretch their legs, ayn' maybe make it highuurr too so they don't jump ovuurr it."
The farm Troll then said, "Wow, good idea, Buckaroo," as Holly smiled, saying "That's good ol' Buckaroo faw ya; smart ayn' brave"! Buckaroo chuckled while saying, "Aw shucks, y'all, ay'm just helpin' as best ay could."
The farm Troll then said, "Ay'd love ta build ayy new pen faw them Puffalos, but the problem is: where would they stay while ay'm makin' it? Plus, ay don't got enough wood ta build it eithuurr."
Buckaroo then said, "Leave the construcshun ta me; ay'll build ya ayy maaghty faane pen, ayn' y'all ken use the old pen ta hold 'em in faw the taame bein' 'till it's done."
Holly then asked, "Buckaroo, are ya sure y'all ken handle buildin' it?
Buckaroo scoffed, saying, "Ov course ay ken; y'all are talkin' ta the strongest Country Troll in Country Corral ayn' Lonesome Flats, ay got this," while flexing her arm to show her strength.
She then said, "Let me just get some wood, paint, ayn' tools, ayn' ay'll be raheet back," before she galloped back to her house, leaving Gust to cross his arms and say, "That's Buckaroo faw ya; always goin' above ayn' beyond the call ov duty ta help out."
The farm Troll chuckled, saying, "Ya know, ay've been meaning ta ask: that gerl's always seemed ta be the toughest one out ov ya three. Does she evuurr, ay don't know, feel scared ov nervous about things sometimes"?
Holly chuckled, saying, "Buckaroo? Scared? Ha! She eats the face ov danguurr faw breakfast; she ken handle an'thing, an' mystery, an' obstacle in her way, she conquers with ease. she's got the strength ov ayy thousand Country Trolls. Ay've known my best friend faw years ayn' nothin' scares her! Whel...except one thing, but she doesn't laake ta talk about it."
When the farm Troll asked, "Really? What is it," Holly got interrupted by the sound of CLANGING as they saw that it was Buckaroo, who was carrying wood, white paint, a toolbox, and a bunch of other assorted tools used for building, as she asked, "Where do y'all want me ta start"?
Holly and Gust both chuckled from seeing the eager detective all set to build the new pen while the farm Troll looked at her in shock.
Buckaroo shrugged and replied, "What? Ay had some old wood lyin' around; thought it'd be useful. Gust, Holly, want ta help too? The mawe hands, the easiuurr the task will be." Later on, Buckaroo, Holly, and Gust were working together to help with the construction of the Puffalo pen, while the farm Troll watched.
Meanwhile, a few mischievous Puffalos that stood in the old pen climbed on top of a few squished Puffalos and lept over the fence, landing outside of it without making a sound, including the baby Puffalo that got out earlier. They then started to run away in a random direction, without anyone noticing.
Soon, Holly had finished painting a fence beam white, saying, "Hot dang, it's all done"!
Gust stepped back to admire their work while stating, "That there's ayy beautiful pen," as Buckaroo added while putting the hammer back in her toolbox, "Yep, with all the room that those Puffalos could evuurr want. We just need the paint to dry befawe they ken be transferred inta the new pen."
The farm Troll nodded before turning around, looking into the old pen and saying, "Here that y'all? Y'all are gonna have ayy lot mawe room real-," before he stopped, seeing that something was wrong.
He took a closer look and then gasped, shouting, "Oh naw," which prompted the three Country Trolls to come towards him, while Holly asked, "What's wrong"?
The farm Troll answered, "Some ov the Puffalos disappeared, including that there lil' one too"! Everyone gasped when they saw that there were now fewer Puffalos in the pen than before, making Gust cry out, "We got runaways on the loose, y'all! We gotta round them up ayn' bring 'em back safely"!
Holly then shouted in worry, "But they could be an'where by now! How are we gonna faand 'em"?
Buckaroo then tipped her hat while saying, "Don't worry, y'all, ay'll faand those missing Puffalos. This is a mystery, ayn' ay'm gonna solve it! Ay just need ta call my partnuurr"!
Buckaroo pulled out a party popper and aimed it up at the sky, activating it as it sent a ball of confetti up into the sky, which exploded and made confetti rain down.
The farm Troll, who was confused, asked, "Who is she calling for," as on cue, everyone saw Aggie flying over to them, wearing her rainbow cowgirl hat with a golden sparkly A on it, as she said, "I got your signal, Buckaroo! We got another mystery to solve"?
Buckaroo nodded, stating, "Y'all bet we do. Ya ready, partnuurr"? Aggie nodded, replying, "You know it, partner," as both girls were ready to solve another mystery together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mystery Duo~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(The scene begins with a black screen and a white circle that expands, as black footprints walk onto the circle, leaving tracks. Then it fades to a white screen where silhouettes of Aggie and Buckaroo posing are shown, before the silhouettes become colorful, showing the real duo ready to solve a mystery together. Aggie was leaning against Buckaroo with her arms crossed and her hoof lifted up, crossing across her Funk leg, while Buckaroo was tipping her hat with her left hand and holding her magnifying glass in her right hand)
Buckaroo: Ay ken smell the scent ov trouble, ayn' it's coming 'long our way!
Aggie: But have no fear, you can count on us to come and save the day!
Buckaroo: Naw mystery's too difficult, naw mattuurr how big aw small!
Aggie: We won't rest until we have solved them all!
Both: 'Cause we are the Mystery Duo! We're here to help find the answers to what's wrong, oh, oh, uh-oh! Call on us: the Mystery Duo!
Aggie: Let us tell you more about our team in song!
Buckaroo: We'll gathuurr ever' clue we faand ayn' piece 'em all togethuurr!
Aggie: You can count on us at any time of day or weather!
Buckaroo: My partnuurr's got the wits ayn' smarts!
Aggie: My partner's brave and strong!
Both: We work together to solve them all day long! 'Cause we are the Mystery Duo! We're here to help find the answers to what's wrong, oh, oh, uh-oh! Call on us: the Mystery Duo!
Buckaroo: Your troubles will naw longuurr prolong!
Both: 'Cause we are the Mystery Duo! Our teamwork shines brighter than the sun, oh, oh, uh-oh! Call on us: the Mystery Duo! We won't stop until our job is done! We won't stop till our job is done!
Buckaroo began to look at the footprints with her magnifying glass while Aggie was looking to see which direction the footprints were going in, mentioning, "The tracks seem to lead southeast."
Buckaroo heard Aggie's comment and wrote it down in her notepad before mentioning, "Ayn' we have ayy pretty hefty total ta look faw: 4 missin' adults, ayn' one baby. The adults maheet be faane by the taame we faand them, but we bettuurr make sure we move quick faw the youngin'; young Puffalos ken't manage bein' on their own until they are about the size the ov an adult, so the baby maheet be in danguurr."
Aggie hopped onto Buckaroo's back, saying, "Then, let's get to looking," and with a mighty gallop, Buckaroo began to follow the trail of footprints off into the empty deserts of Country Corral. The further they traveled to follow the trail, Buckaroo and Aggie kept their eyes peeled for any clues that could lead to where the Puffalos disappeared to. Aggie pulled out a pair of binoculars from her hair and used them to look around and see any far away clues, while Buckaroo paid close attention to the footprint trail in case there were any sudden changes that could prove crucial to them.
Suddenly, Aggie saw something in the distance, shouting, "Buckaroo, look over there! By that patch of dry grass"!
Buckaroo followed where Aggie was pointing and approached the patch of dry grass. Buckaroo inspected it with her magnifying glass, stating, "Look here; parts ov it has been chewed up ayn' eaten. Ay bet the Puffalos saw this here patch ayn' came by faw ayy nibble befawe they went off."
Aggie found more footprints, saying, "Here, they were eating from this spot, and then they left that way," while pointing to a flat desert plain. She hopped back onto Buckaroo while saying, "Then, that's where we got ta go! Let's head out," and held on while Buckaroo stood on her hind legs and gave her front legs a kick before starting to gallop and follow the footprint trail again.
They traveled for a while before suddenly, Buckaroo heard something in the distance, making her stop and listen closely, with Aggie asking, "What is it, Buckaroo"?
Buckaroo replied, "Ay heard somethin'...sounds laake...," and did her best to identify the sound. The minute she picked up on a faint "Baa," she opened her eyes, narrowing them in determination, and shouted, "Ayy Puffalo," and followed the direction of where the sound came from.
Soon, both girls arrived at a frightful scene, including what was making the "Baa" sound: an adult Puffalo, with its backside against a rock and shaking in fear, looking up at a big, hairy Growlbeast that roared at the Puffalo, bearing its fangs.
Both girls gasped, with Aggie saying, "That Puffalo's in trouble! We got to save it," and flew off of Buckaroo's back, hovering above the detective.
Buckaroo tipped her hat and said, "Y'all get that Puffalo, ay'll deal with the Growlbeast," and together, they placed their plan in motion. Aggie flew up so the Growlbeast wouldn't see her while Buckaroo let out a shrill whistle that got the Growlbeast's attention.
As it turned its head and looked at her, she waved her arms and said, "Ovuurr here ya hairy vermint! Come ayn' get me," and got it to chase her. While the Growlbeast ran after the detective, distracted, Aggie flew to the Puffalo, who looked at her nervously, as Aggie said, "Easy, lil' guy; I'm here to help." The Puffalo approached Aggie and based shyly as she picked it up.
Meanwhile, Buckaroo was running as fast as she could with the Growlbeast hot on her tail. Soon, she found a large rock and hid behind it, watching the Growlbeast run past her, as she sighed in relief, commenting to herself while taking her hat off and fanning herself to cool off, "That takes care ov him."
She looked around to make sure that the Growlbeast was long gone before she started to trot back to Aggie, who was still holding onto the Puffalo that was starting to squirm in her arms.
Aggie did her best to hold onto it before she saw Buckaroo saying, "Buckaroo, we did it," before she felt the Puffalo leap out of her arms and land on the ground, shaking itself off before it baaed curiously at them.
Buckaroo looked at the Puffalo while saying, "On the plus saade, it looks unharmed. Ay bet it was runnin' with its buddies ayn' then saw that grass patch ayn' stopped faw ayy bite ta eat. Then, it wanduurred down here, tryin' ta faand the othuurrs, ayn' came toe ta toe with that there Growlbeast."
Aggie saw the Puffalo nod, making her smile, impressed, and state, "Wow, you're really good," as Buckaroo blushed in embarrassment and replied, "It's ayy gift." She then checked off one of the adult Puffalos on the list in her notepad, mentioning, "That's one down, fouurr mawe ta go. Ay wonduurr if it knows where its friends went."
The Puffalo cocked its head curiously before it then pointed to a dirt path that went downwards from where they were traveling, making Aggie say, "I bet they went down there."
Buckaroo replied, "It couldn't hurt to look; let's move out," and with the Puffalo by their side, Aggie and Buckaroo were off once again to find where the rest of the Puffalos went.
They traveled down the path for a while until they suddenly heard another "Baa," which made them stop to listen, as Buckaroo shouted, "We got anothuurr one nearby"!
Aggie looked around before she saw something nearby: what looked like something white and fluffy that was moving around in between two rocks, and the white thing had two back legs that were thrashing about.
Buckaroo approached it first and grabbed it by its legs, using her strength to pull whatever it was out before finally, the "thing" popped free, and it was revealed to be a Puffalo, who was chewing on a brown root.
Aggie couldn't help but giggle, saying, "Well, we found another one, and I think I can guess how it got stuck."
The now freed Puffalo kept chewing on the root in its mouth before it looked up and saw its friend by both girls and baaed happily, dropping the root and running to its friend, both Puffalos baaing happily, smiling and feeling excited to be reunited.
Buckaroo checked off the next adult Puffalo on her list, before Aggie said, "Two down, three to go. Now, to find the others."
The Puffalo who was freed from the rocks remembered something and pointed its hoof at something, which made Aggie and Buckaroo turn their heads and spot another set of footprints that led in a different direction.
Buckaroo inspected the footprints through her magnifying glass while stating, "Ay bet that while this fella stopped to eat ayy snack, which wound up leading it ta gettin' stuck, the other three went this way. But what's down this way anyway"?
Aggie looked at the footprint trail through her binoculars to see where they led, as she said, "Somewhere down south from the looks of it; let's go check it out." Aggie hopped back onto Buckaroo's back as Buckaroo galloped away, following the footprint trail, with the two rescued Puffalos following beside her.
They followed the trail way out beyond fields of cactuses, rock statues, and a passing herd of Adorabulls, before approaching a large entrance to a big, deep, dark cave.
At the cave entrance, two adult Puffalos were waiting by the entrance, with one asleep on a flat rock, while another one was pacing nervously back and forth.
Suddenly, they heard hoofsteps and saw that Buckaroo and Aggiw were approaching them, including their two Puffalo pals, as the four adult Puffalos happily reunited with each other, baaing happily and running around in a circle, with each Puffalo following each other.
Aggie smiled, saying, "There are the other two adults; we found them," as Buckaroo checked them off on her list in her notepad, saying, "Yep, 'cept now all we gotta do is faand the missin' baby. Where is it? Ay don't see an'more tracks. Aggie, ken y'all fly up ayn' see if ya ken spot an'thing from up in the air"?
Aggie flew up into the sky and looked around, seeing if she could spot anything, but couldn't find any sign of the missing baby Puffalo. She flew back to the ground and landed beside her, saying, "No signs of it anywhere."
Buckaroo faced the Puffalos that were by the cave entrance earlier and asked, "Do any ov ya know where the baby is"? The two Puffalos looked at each other before they both pointed at the cave entrance, which meant only one thing: the baby Puffalo...was inside the cave!
Buckaroo saw where the Puffalo was pointing and gasped in shock, along with Aggie, who commented, "The baby's inside the cave! It's probably lost and scared, being in that cave all alone! We have to rescue it"!
Aggie flew towards the cave entrance, ready to enter it, but didn't see Buckaroo, who gulped nervously when she saw the cave entrance, muttering, "Why does it always have ta be caves"?
Aggie was ready to enter when she stopped and noticed how frozen Buckaroo looked, making her fly over to Buckaroo and ask, "Uh, Buckaroo, you feeling ok"?
Buckaroo shook her head to snap out of it, saying, "What? Y-Yeah, a-ay'm faane, Aggie. Just, uh...admirin' the rocks around us; ken't get by without appreciatin' natuurr," and nervously smiled, sheepishly chuckling while hoping Aggie bought her story.
However, the MMT questioned further into Buckaroo's sudden change in behavior, asking, "Are you sure you're alright? You usually don't freeze like that."
Buckaroo scoffed and said, "Ov course ay'm faane; nothin's wrong. we're all safe ayn' alaave, ayn' the Puffalos are ok! All's good here, partnuurr."
Then, Aggie caught Buckaroo doing something she has never seen her do before: her left eye...twitched. It was just for a second, and it was tiny, but still visible, especially to Aggie, who commented, "Buckaroo, what are you hiding? Your eye was twitching, and it NEVER twitches. Something's making you nervous."
Buckaroo brushed off Aggie's statement, chuckling nervously while saying, "What? Ay ain't nervous! Ay nevuurr get nervous; y'all are talkin' ta one ov the strongest Country Trolls around, ayn' ay never get scared aw nervous. 'Cause me, ay bettuurr go check on our rescued friends."
Buckaroo started to walk to the group of Puffalos to "check on them," hoping Aggie would drop the subject, but Aggie didn't.
She then started to say, "Buckaroo, will you just-," but seeing that the detective wasn't listening, Aggie scoffed and retorted, "Just tell me what it is."
Buckaroo simply stated, "There's nothin' ta tell," and knelt down to pet the Puffalos while Aggie continued with, "Buckaroo, if something is bothering you, and you're feeling scared or nervous about it, 'cause you won't tell me what's wrong-," when suddenly, Buckaroo turned around and shouted with panic in her tone of voice, "Nothing's wrong"!
Buckaroo took a minute to breathe in and out when she saw how her shout startled Aggie, making her take a calm breath in and out as she stated, "Wow, uh, sorry about that, Aggie. Ay don't know what came ovuurr me. That...that snuck out ov there."
She then cleared her throat and said while picking up Aggie and putting her by the Puffalos while saying, "What ay meant to say was why would an'thing be wrong? Ay'm totally faane, the Puffalos are faane, you're faane. Ol' Bucky's faane; ay'm totally nawht nervous."
Suddenly, Aggie caught Buckaroo's left eye twitching again, making her say, "Um...your eye is-," but then suddenly, Aggie watched as Buckaroo was walking towards a rock near the cave entrance while she started to sing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Surface Pressure by Jessica Darrow~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buckaroo: Ay'm the strong one, ay ain't nervous. Ay'm as tough as the crust ov the Earth is.
Suddenly, Aggie watched Buckaroo kick a rock with her back feet as the rock crumbled into a million tiny pieces, as the adult Puffalos looked at Aggie, who watched in confusion while saying, "Ok"?
Ay move mountains, ay move houses. Ayn' ay glow, 'cause ay know what my worth is.
Buckaroo then approached between two more rocks and flexed her arms, showing off her strong muscles while looking back at Aggie, who started to say, "Of course, I mean-," but then, she saw the adult Puffalos back up a bit behind her, making her whisper, "Hey, where are you going"? Suddenly, Aggie watched as Buckaroo lifted up both rocks and threw them far away one at a time before she turned around, facing Aggie and the Puffalos, and approaching them while she sang.
Ay don't ask how hard the work is. Got ayy rough indestructible surface. Diamonds ayn' platinum, ay find 'em, ay flatten 'em. Ay take what ay'm handed, ay break what's demanded.
Suddenly, in a whirlwind, Aggie found herself in a vivid daydream where, inside a circus tent, she was on a thing tightrope with Buckaroo, who was holding a balancing pole with two Puffalos on each side while trying to walk on the rope, with the spotlight shining on them, and a huge crowd watching from below.
But unduurr the surface, ay feel berserk as ayy taaghtrope walkuurr in ayy three-ring circus!
Then, Aggie found herself bounced off the ropes and into the sky, where she then fell and landed on her feet in what looked like an old, broken stadium, inside a large ring of fire. She then saw Buckaroo holding what looked like a large metal shield while holding a sword, standing on front of Aggie, trying to protect her from a large, black, three-headed dog-like monster that roared at them, first scaring another random Troll that ran away, screaming in fear, before Buckaroo lunged forward and fought the monster, but not before looking at Aggie nervously before she charged in to fight it.
Unduurr the surface, was Trollcules evuurr like "Y'all, ay don't wanna faheet Cerbuurrus"?! Unduurrr the surface, ay'm pretty sure ay'm worthless If ay ken't be ov service.
Buckaroo was then shown courageously standing on stone steps as the fallen beast fell, causing the stairs to crack right in the middle. As the crack got bigger and the stairs started to separate, Buckaroo dove right into the crack and landed on a stone podium, while a shower of Puffalos fell behind her.
Ayy flaw aw ayy crack, the straw in the stack that breaks the Camel Crittuurr's back! What breaks the Camel Crittuurr's back?
It's pressure laake ayy drip, drip, drip, that'll nevuurr stop, whoa.
Then, Aggie found herself on one side of a golden scale that Buckaroo was holding, with Aggie on the left side, while an overwhelming pile of Puffalos gathered on the other side, making the weight very uneven. Despite Buckaroo's best efforts to handle the weight, it was too much, and while her right arm went down, her left arm went straight up, sending Aggie up into the air, where she landed, standing, on a stone wall, with the Puffalos watching her while Buckaroo landed beside her.
Pressuurr that'll tip, tip, tip, till ya just go pop, whoa-oh-oh.
Buckaroo then wrapped her arm around Aggie, giving her a squeezed side hug, before she proceeded to catch falling pieces that she quickly constructed into a #D Earth, which then rolled away when the land they were standing on tilted, making the two fall, along with a few balls.
Leave it ta Ol' Bucky; she's ayy whole lot bolduurr. Give huurr all the heavy stuff that we ken't shoulduurr. Who am ay if ay ken't run with the ball?
Suddenly, Aggie and Buckaroo found themselves trapped in a cage that started to close in on them, but Buckaroo stopped the moving walls with her arms, breaking a way out by punching a hole through the door before she grabbed Aggie and ran through a field of exploding volcanoes, dodging all the lava that came towards them.
If ay fall ta pressure laake ayy grip, grip, grip, ayn' it won't let go, whoa. Pressure laake a tick, tick, tick, till it's ready ta blow, whoa-oh-oh.
Buckaroo then saw three angry Growlbeats charging at them as she tipped her hat and swung both her braids, lassoing them before throwing them up into the sky without even breaking a sweat.
Give it ta your partnuurr; Buckaroo's stronguurr; see if she ken hold it faw ayy lil' longuurr. Who am ay If ay ken't carry it all? If ay faltuurr.
The scene then changed to Buckaroo and Aggie staring down a canyon chasm with a huge rockslide that was coming towards a village, as Buckaroo quickly galloped towards the rocks and sent them flying.
Unduurr the surface, ay haade my nerves, ayn' it worsens. Ay worry something maheet hurt us.
It then showed the two facing a huge tornado that was really really strong, as Buckaroo caught it with one of her braid lassos and was hanging onto it really tight, with Aggie helping her.
Unduurr the surface, them tornadoes don't swerve, naw mattuurr how strong aw big it is.
It then showed Aggie and Buckaroo safely away from the tornado, as Buckaroo adjusted Aggie's hat, before they came across a large line of dominoes that was about to fall on them, but Buckaroo tried to push back on the dominoes, as they were all being absorbed by a sudden pillar of darkness that swirled in the sky and gulpd down each domino one by one, almost reaching the Mystery Duo.
Unduurr the surface, ay think about my purpose; ken ay somehow preserve this? Line up the dominos, ayy light wind blows. Ya try ta stop it topplin', but on ayn' on it goes.
Then, Aggie found herself in a new dream scape where Buckaroo was walking inside of a cave, not seemingly scared at all, as she watched the detective trot through, hopping on each rock, as she helped Aggie climb up to a high ledge.
But wait, if ay could shake the crushin' weight ov expectashuns, would that free some room up faw joy? Aw relaxashun? Aw ayy simple pleasure? Instead, we measuurr; this growing pressuurr keeps growing. Ayn' we keep goin', 'cause all we know is.
Then, Buckaroo saw rocks solely falling towards them from the ceiling, as she caught them, but then Aggie noticed the look of sadness/fear in her eyes, making Aggie gasp and realize: Buckaroo was scared of caves, which she knew already, but now understood better why Buckaroo was scared of caves: the fear of something bad happening that could cause them to be trapped or hurt. The fear of not being able to help or defend anyone in a situation she can't handle. Being confined in a place where anything could go wrong in a matter of minutes, and with the possibility of not being able to do anything about it; was why Buckaroo is frightened about being in a cave.
Pressure laake ayy drip, drip, drip, that'll nevuurr stop, whoa. Pressuurr that'll tip, tip, tip, till ya just go pop, whoa-oh-oh.
Suddenly, more rocks came, as Buckaroo did her best to hold them up, as the pile got bigger and bigger. Then, a large 3D model of Trollstopia fell on her, almost seeming to have crushed her underneath.
Let Buckaroo handle it; it doesn't hurt huurr ayn' look at the way she handles othuurr Trolls' burdens. Watch as she buckles ayn' bends but nevuurr breaks.
Aggie looked at the pile in concern, worried Buckaroo was stuck, or hurt, and unable to get out, but then, she saw the detective get up, holding up the 3D map model high with all the strength she could muster.
No mistakes!
Buckaroo then tossed the model around, twirling it on her finger, before it showed her dancing with the Puffalos, who danced and frolicked around her, while Aggie watched.
Just pressure laake ayy grip, grip, grip, ayn' it won't let go, whoa. Pressure laake a tick, tick, tick, till it's ready ta blow, whoa-oh-oh. Leave it all to Buckaroo, ayn' nevuurr wonduurr if the same pressuurr would also pull ya unduurr. Who am ay If ay don't have what it takes? No cracks, no breaks!
Finally, it showed all the pieces of the entire Troll Kingdom, including each kingdom land, and Trollstopia, coming down, as Buckaroo caught everything on an entirely large and long platform, before throwing the whole thing up into the air.
No mistakes, no pressure!
Buckaroo was nearly out of breath by the end of the song as she panted, breathing in and out at a very fast pace, while Aggie looked at Buckaroo in concern.
Then, she watched the detective fall backward, sitting on her bottom, still panting, almost dazed-like. Aggie slowly approached Buckaroo and said, "Woah, Buckaroo, I never knew you felt this way." Buckaroo didn't seem to respond at first as if she didn't hear Aggie, who leaned in and gave the detective a hug. Buckaroo finally seemed to snap out of her daze and looked at Aggie, who then whispered so only the detective could hear, "I think you're carrying way too mu-," but then, she felt the detective stand up and give her a huge Country Troll strength-based, as the MMT gasped out, "Much," while feeling squished.
Buckaroo then commented, "Maybe ay do ovuurrdo it sometaames," as Aggie nodded and said, "Yep," while Buckaroo placed her down.
Then, the detective took a deep breath in and said, "Ok, y'all are raheet; ay am nervous about somethin'. Truth is...ay really, really, don't want ta go insaade that cave. Ay just-," before Aggie interrupted and asked, "Feel so scared about it"?
Buckaroo nodded, saying as she lowered her hat to cover her eyes, "Ay feel so ashamed about this. Ay don't laake bein' afraid, ayn' ay don't laake ta openly admit it because, whel, ever'one ay know sees me as this big, strong, brave Country Troll, who'd do an'thing ayn' ever'thing faw them. They think ay ken just face danguurr ayn' chew it up ayn' spit it back out laake gum, ayn' most ov the taame, ay ken, but it's just so much pressuurr ta keep that image up. Deep down though, ay'm just a taared ayn' vulnerable soul who don't laake ta show how she's feelin' especially if somethin's really scary ta me."
Aggie then said, "But Buckaroo, it's ok to feel scared sometimes. We all have something that makes us feel uneasy, and that's ok. No matter how big or small, you never have to feel like you should hide your fear from us because we care about you and we understand how you feel. Not everyone can be brave and strong all of the time."
Buckaroo lifted her hat up a bit to show her eyes, which were starting to brim with tears, as she said, "But that's what ever'one expects ov me."
Aggie listened as Buckaroo got up, saying, "Almost ever'day, ay hear a lot of Trolls say, "Oh, look at Buckaroo; she's supuurr strong ayn' brave," aw, "That there's the toughest detective in all ov Trollstopia; nothin' scares huurr aw makes her run away." They think ay'm this helpful ayn' strong Troll who nevuurr backs down from an'thin' aw gets scared aw nervous but...they don't know the real me. The me where, ay have this gosh darn fear ov caves that makes me feel...weak. Laake...what if we get hurt ayn' ay ken't protect an'one, aw help save someone in trouble? How ken we help protect othuurrs...when ay ken't even protect myself"?
Buckaroo let a single tear fall from her cheek, as she quickly wiped it away, saying, "Gosh, here ay go, gettin' all emotional ovuurr something so stupid."
Then, she felt Aggie place a hand on her shoulder while saying, "Stupid? Buckaroo, that was anything but stupid; that was really brave of you."
Buckaroo looked confused as Aggie explained, "I know it's hard to admit when you're feeling something you don't like to admit because, well, you fear what others might say because you think they see you as for what they see you do or how they see you act. But you know something? You're so much more than just your strength, Buckaroo, and I'm not talking about your physical strength."
Buckaroo listened as Aggie said, "Buckaroo, you're the smartest, toughest, hard-working Country Troll I've ever seen, and you always put up a tough front for everyone, but I know the true you: you're just like everyone else. You have a soft side, and you never have to feel like you need to hide it because it doesn't make you weak, not at all. We all have a softer side of us, and we don't need to hide it because it doesn't change who we are. We're still the same Troll, no matter if we are tough as nails or scared of something big or small. In fact, Buckaroo, seeing you being open to me like this, that shows true strength right there."
Buckaroo looked at Aggie, dazed a bit, while she asked, "Really"? Aggie nodded, which prompted the detective to look down at her hands, almost shocked, before she then took a deep breath and said, "Whel...talkin' ta ayy close friend laake ya makes bein' honest with myself ayy bit easiuurr. Geesh, Aggie, how do ya always get me ta just be open laake this"?
Aggie smiled and shrugged, answering, "Well, I care about my friends and always want to help them out, no matter what, even if it's just sitting here and listening. you can always tell me whatever's up, and I'll be right beside you to provide advice and anything else that can help you feel better."
Buckaroo smiled, saying, "No wonduurr why ayy lot ov Trolls laake ta be friends with ya; you're always so caring ayn' naace." Buckaroo then felt a lot of thoughts flood through her mind, making her say, "Whel, since ay'm bein' honest with ya, out in the open laake this, y'all are probably wonduurrin' why ay've always been scared ov caves, raheet"?
Aggie answered, "Only if you feel ready to tell me."
Buckaroo nodded and answered, "Ay do. See...it happened when ay was just ayy lil' buckling. Ay was always the adventurous type ayn' one day, Holly ayn' ay found this big ol' cave ayn', bein' as young as we were, we wanted ta explore it. We went insaade ayn' explored, thinkin' ever'thing was gonna just be laake ayy normal day. Then suddenly, Holly accidentally kicked ayy boulder that set off ayy huge rock slaade insaade the cave. She was so scared, ayn' bein' her best friend, ay wanted ta make suurr we got out ov there alaave ayn' well. So, ay led her down this here path that ay thought was gonna lead us ta safety. Instead, we ended up deepuurr into the cave ayn' got really lost, ayn' then...ay saw some rocks headin' towards Holly."
"Ay pushed her out ov the way...ayn' the rocks trapped me." Aggie gasped as Buckaroo continued, saying, "Ay couldn't get out, naw mattuurr what; all ov them rocks on me were just too heavy. but...ay didn't care about my own health; ta me, all that mattuurred was gettin' my best friend ta safety, ayn' bein stuck ayn' helpless, ay was scared faw Holly, thinkin' she maheet get hurt. All ay could hear was huurr terrified screams ayn' gallops as we were both caved in. Holly soon got me freed from the paale, but ay could just see it, the look in her eyes. She was scared...ayn' ay couldn't do anythin', ay was in too much pain with my arms ayn' legs hurtin' ta do aw say anythin'."
"Hours latuurr, ayy rescue team came ayn' we got rescued, but evuurr since then, that experience left its mark ayn'...ay've been scared evuurr since. Ayn' ya know somethin'? Ay'm scared that, if we go insaade that cave...somethin' bad maheet happen...ayn' ay maheet nawht be able ta help ya,...the same way ay couldn't help Holly when ay got trapped."
Aggie patted Buckaroo on the back while saying, "Buckaroo, I'm so sorry you went through this. That sure sounded pretty scary." buckaroo nodded and replied, "Believe me, if ya witnessed it with ya own eyes, y'all would be scared too."
Aggie then said, "Buckaroo, as sure as I'm your partner in solving mysteries, I promise you that we will be ok if we go inside this cave." Buckaroo then said, "How ken y'all be suurr, Aggie? an'thin' ken happen in that cave; the unexpected ken occur, ayn' we maheet die"!
Aggie reassured Buckaroo while saying, "It's gonna be ok. I can't promise that something bad won't happen, but I promise we both are gonna be ok. I know that we can do this, and I know you can do this too, Buckaroo. i believe in you, I'm here for you, you're my friend, and I won;t leave your side. We'll find that baby Puffalo and rescue it without worry. I know you're scared, but we both got to be brave together."
Buckaroo gulped and looked at the cave entrance, saying, "How ken at be brave when with just one look one that cave, ay feel laake ay got chicken legs ayn' just wanna curl up inta ayy ball ayn' haade"?
Aggie then said, "You can do this; you've faced dangerous beasts and beat them without breaking a sweat. You've pursued countless criminals and caught them with ease, even before I meant you. If you can do all of that, I know you can do this too. Just breathe in and out with me, ok"?
Buckaroo took a shaky breath in and out, but then, she saw Aggie smile and breathe in and out slowly, ushering her to follow. Buckaroo followed Aggie's tutelage and breathed in and out slowly, soon, taking in slower and calmer breaths. Once Buckaroo seemed to calm down, she smiled, saying, "Ok, ay'm calm now."
Aggie then said, "So, you ready to try and face you fear"?
Buckaroo didn't know how to answer that question, but then, she felt the adult Puffalos crowd around her, baaing calmly and nuzzling her, trying to help her feel better. Seeing the fluffy critters nuzzling her, the detective smiled and chuckled, laughing from feeling tickled, as she petted them, before saying, "Ok, ay think...ay'm ready."
She then pulled out two flashlights, giving one to Aggie before turning to the Puffalos and saying, "Ever'one, stay raheet here, ayn' we'll be back soon with the youngin', understand? No one leaves, got it"? The Puffalos sat, nodded, and saluted the detective, as she and Aggie faced the cave, walking inside of it.
Once they made it inside, they both turned on the flashlights to illuminate the inside of the cave, as they trekked further into it. Buckaroo was nervously looking around, her eyes panicked as she noticed all of the hanging rocks on the walls and ceiling, the structures that stood tall, and the deep, deep dark tunnels ahead.
Buckaroo gulped nervously, her teeth chattering a bit in fright, but then, she heard Aggie say, "Don't worry, we're safe."
Hearing her partner's reassurance, Buckaroo felt a bit better, as they soon both started to call for the baby Puffalo. Aggie shouted, "Here, little baby Puffalo! Come out, come out, wherever you are," while Buckaroo looked around and did a Puffalo call, hoping that the baby could respond.
They both listened quietly, hoping to hear it, as Aggie heard a tiny, "Baa," far away from them. She gasped and replied, "I heard it! It's this wy," and started to fly towards where she heard the baby call from, with Buckaroo following her. Then, Buckaroo spotted something, saying, "Look! Taany footprints," and pointed to the tiny trail of Puffalo tracks.
Aggie saw them, saying, "it went this way"! They followed the tracks and soon came across a high rocky ledge that peered over a deep, deep chasm from down below. It was so deep and dark, you could barely see any sign of light down there. Aggie and Buckaroo looked up the ledge, hoping to spot the baby Puffalo, before Aggie spotted something white and fluffy shaking, making her point up and shout, "Up there"!
Buckaroo pulled out her binoculars to look up and gasped when she saw the baby Puffalo, shaking in fear, and baaing frantically. Buckaroo placed her binoculars away while saying, "It must've claambed up there ayn' got stuck! Poor lil' thing is scared"! Aggie then said, "We got to get it down! I'll fly up to grab it"!
Aggie readied to fly up, but Buckaroo grabbed her by her Country leg, saying, "Wait, Aggie, don't"! She pulled the MMT down gently and pointed up, showing Aggie that up at the ceiling, there were strong wind currents near the top of the ledge, where it was very windy. The baby Puffalo was shivering/shaking in fear, while Buckaroo explained, "Those wind currents up there in ayy cave are strong, they'll toss ya around ayn' make ya crash ayn' fall into the chasm."
Aggie then asked, "Then, how are we gonna get up there? I can't climb the ledge; it's too steep for me." Buckaroo looked up at the chasm and stated, "Maybe faw ya, it maheet be too steep, but it ain't too steep faw me. Ay'll claamb up ayn' get it down."
Aggie, in concern, asked, "Buckaroo? Are you sure about this"? The detective nodded, saying, "Yeah, ay'm sure. I'm scared, but sure."
Buckaroo then took off her hat and fished inside of it, pulling out a sturdy rope with a wench hook, and a red harness, saying as she placed her hat back on, "Let me get this here harness on, then, attach that rope to this notch on the back. It'll help hold me in place in case ay slip ayn' fall, ayn' do nawht, under any circumstances, let go ov that there rope, got it"? Aggie tipped her hat and replied, "Got it"!
Buckaroo placed on the harness firmly, making sure it was secured, as Aggie attached the rope and held on tight as Buckaroo looked up the ledge and gulped, saying shakily, "Here we go, y'all," and started to climb the ledge.
Slowly, she stepped on each step that was available at a time, kneeling down a few times to use her hands as support to climb up safely. Aggie held onto the rope tight and shouted words of encouragement to help Buckaroo stay calm, saying, "You got this, Buckaroo"! I believe in you"!
Buckaroo kept climbing slowly and carefully before she soon made it to the top of the ledge. she felt the wind currents blowing furiously, making her hold onto her hat tightly, as she rose her other arm up to keep her balance. She saw the scared baby Puffalo shaking and baaing frantically, as she said, "Here, sugar; ay'm here ta help ya down."
The baby Puffalo opened its eyes and looked at Buckaroo, wanting to come to her, but the feeling of the strong winds and the tremendous height made it too scared to move.
Buckaroo then suddenly heard a quiet rumbling sound and noticed that it came from the baby Puffalo's stomach, which meant it was hungry.
She then got an idea and pulled out a baby bottle with a red nozzle out of her hair, shaking it to see if it was full of milk, smiling in success, as she said, "Here, sugar, ya hungry? Ay got some food faw ya."
The baby Puffalo looked up at Buckaroo and the baby bottle and based happily, standing up and running to her, with Buckaroo catching it in her left arm before she gently cradled it and fed it the bottle of milk. The baby Puffalo sucked happily on the bottle, with Buckaroo saying, "There ya go, we're all calm now."
Soon, the baby Puffalo was full and stopped sucking on the bottle, letting out a burp, and sheepishly smiled, covering its mouth with its right front hoof, as the detective chuckled, saying, "Excuse you there, lil one. now, why don't we get down ayn' out ov this scary cave"?
The baby Puffalo nodded as Buckaroo was ready to turn around and start to walk back down when suddenly, the wind current blew her hat off her head, making her shout, "My hat"!
The baby Puffalo saw the hat fly away and jumped out of her arms, running after the hat, as Buckaroo shouted, "Naw, lil' one! Don't go aftuur it! You'll fall off the edge"!
The baby Puffalo didn't seem to listen as it ran after the hat and leaped high, catching it with its mouth, before it saw that it had just jumped off the ledge, and there was no bottom. It let out a muffled baa as it fell with Buckaroo's hat, as Buckaroo gasped in horror before she suddenly felt...determined, to save it.
She galloped after it and leaped off the ledge, with Aggie gasping in horror as she watched Buckaroo jump off the cliff ledge and dove after the baby Puffalo.
Buckaroo didn't care about her fear of caves, or falling; to her, what mattered most was the safety of the critter. She reached her arms out and caught the baby Puffalo, along with her hat, holding it in her arms tightly as she braced for falling through the hole.
Suddenly, she felt something tug at her and saw Aggie pulling the rope with all of her might, making Buckaroo fall, instead of into the chasm, towards her. Aggie pulled the rope and then did her best to catch the falling detective that fell towards her, the two tumbling towards the ground and rolled around a bit, getting covered in dust, before they soon were both on their backs, safe and sound.
Buckaroo sat up and saw that she was just saved, as Aggie also sat up, breathing fast while asking, "Are you ok"?
Buckaroo looked down in her arms and saw that the baby Puffalo, now a light shade of grey due to the dust, who was still holding onto her hat with its teeth, smiled and baaed happily, making the detective smile and say, "Yeah, ay'm ok. Thanks, Aggie. Ay owe ya my laafe...again," and chuckled a bit, with Aggie saying, "You're welcome. Though next time, maybe avoid doing a dangerous stunt like that. I was lucky I had that rope with me," as Buckaroo nodded and said, "Got it, partnuurr. Now, why don't we get out ov here befawe an'thin' else happens"? Aggie and the baby Puffalo nodded before they started to make their way out of the cave.
Hours later, back in Country Corral, the sun was starting to set as Holly, Gust, and the farm ranger were all nervously pacing around, wondering where Aggie and Buckaroo were, along with the missing Puffalos. Suddenly, Gust saw a dust cloud coming towards them and narrowed his eyes to get a closer look. It turned out to be Buckaroo, with Aggie riding on her back, and the Puffalo posse, coming at them, making him smile and say, "Look, y'all; they're back"!
The Mystery Duo returned to the ranch as the Puffalos reunited with the ranger, who hugged them while saying, "Y'all are back, ayn' safe ayn' sound! Oh, thank goodness! Naw mawe runnin' off laake that, understand"? The Puffalos nodded, including the baby Puffalo, before they heard the ranger say, "Now, why don't y'all come insaade the new pen," and opened the gate so the Puffalos could happily walk into the new pen.
Meanwhile, Holly had joined up with Gust and said to Buckaroo and Aggie, "Thank goodness y'all are safe. What happened"? Buckaroo answered, "Whel, Holls, let us explain. The Puffalos ended up wanderin' out ta the far ends ov Country Corral searchin' faw food. Along the way, they somehow got separated ayn' wound up in various locashuns."
Aggie then said, "They most likely got so distracted in wanting to find food, they didn't notice that their friends disappeared, nor that they were stuck in any tricky situations. We had to lead one of them away from a Growlbeast, and pull another one from out between two rocks because it got stuck trying to eat a root it saw."
Buckaroo then said, "Even the baby Puffalo ended up gettin' lost in ayy cave." Holly gasped while asking, "Y'all...went inta ayy cave? Ay thought y'all were afraid ta go inta caves."
Buckaroo replaced, "Ay was, still am, but...maybe not as much as befawe. Ay wouldn't have even gone inta the cave we rescued the baby Puffalo from if nawht faw my partnuurr encouragin' me ta step up ayn' be brave." Aggie smiled and said, "Well, you know me; always looking out for my friends."
Buckaroo smiled, chuckling a bit before she stated, "Guess we ken now close the folduurr on this here case because this mystery has been solved. Haagh hoof," as she and Aggie both kicked their legs up and connected their hooves together, saying, "Haagh hoof," in unison.
The Puffalos all based happily, embracing all the room they now had in the new pen, as everyone laughed happily from seeing the critters so happy.
