There was a baby in the room. A baby that came from a portal, a portal that I created and a portal I'm sure doesn't work like other ones. There is a chance that this baby might be a demon, albeit an adorable demon. But then it looked up at me, and I froze where I stood. The baby had eyes just like Jace.

Oblivious to my shock, the baby waddled over to the door and entered the room next to the one we were in. The weapon room. Now, on a normal day, I would have run after the baby and scooped him out of the room. But this was not an ordinary day. I just witnessed a demon baby with Jace's eyes.

As I thought today couldn't get any weirder, more people (or demons, who knows? They look a lot like people, though. Maybe they are like the Endarkened? shudder Scary thoughts) came out from the portal. But these people looked much more familiar.

"Tessa Gray? Alec? What the hell are you two doing together? Where are Jem and Magnus? Are they okay?" Alec, or the demon who looked so much like him, narrowed his eyes while Tessa, or the demon who looks like her, widened hers.

Alec's doppelganger shook his head, "I don't know who this Alec is, and Tessa is Tessa Herondale now. Also, do you mean Jem Carstairs and Magnus Bane?". For the second time that day, I froze. Tessa...Herondale? Does this mean this is Tessa from the past? That means the guy next to her is most probably Will Herondale.

"Clary!" I heard Jace call from the other room, "A baby is playing with the knives. Should I do something?" Will and Tessa exchanged alarmed glances and rushed out, with me at their heels. There, on the floor, was the baby that had come through the portal.

"Oh, Jamie," cried Tessa, hugging the baby, "What did I tell you about not entering portals without Mommy or Daddy?" He looked away, as if embarrassed. Jace caught my eye and gave me a confused smile.

"What's going on here? You're Tessa Gray, right? The one that helped Jocelyn put a spell or something on Clary?", he inquired, pointing at the warlock in question. Then, he pointed at Will and asked, "And who are you? You're not Alec, no matter how much you look alike. I would know. He's my parabatai."

"Why does everyone confuse me with this Alec? I don't even know who he is!", Will exclaimed to no one in particular. "And don't touch those knives, Jamie. I know you think you're big enough, but your mother would bury me alive", he added.

I stepped towards Jace to explain, "I think these three are from the past."

"The past?", echoed Jace, his mouth hanging open, "How did that even happen?"

I looked away. "I might have accidentally created a portal." Jace looked at me incredulously, "How do you accidentally create a portal? To the past, for that matter! Besides, who are these people?"

"Jace, meet Will, Tessa and James Herondale," I introduced, waving my hand at the little family. Will stood up just as Jace sunk to the floor. "How do you know our names?", Will asked defensively.

"You said Tessa's name was Tessa Herondale. The Tessa of our time, Tessa Gray, told me that she was once married to Will Herondale and had two children: James and Lucie Herondale. Also, you and James are pretty popular."

Will spun around to face Tessa and remarked, "This woman knows what we're going to name our baby, too. This world is crazy!", and sat down next to James. Tessa, on the other hand, looked curious. "You mentioned Jem before as if he's still here. Is he?"

My cheeks flushed. Answering Tessa's question might cause some trouble in paradise. "Do you want to know?" Tessa nodded eagerly, and Will seemed interested, too. Only Jace was frozen, staring at the Herondale family. I sat down and took his hand in mine.

"I'll tell you, but I don't know if you'll like it. So, Jem became a Silent Brother." I waited for a reaction, but I got none. "We know," said Tessa, "Jem became a part of the Brotherhood a few years ago. But he's Brother Zachariah now."

"Well, some stuff happened, I don't want to go into the details, but basically, Jace had Heavenly Fire in him. When Brother Zachariah tried to heal him, he was affected, too and therefore, he returned to the state he was before becoming a Silent Brother."

Will looked extremely worried, "He returned to the same state? But that's terrible! How is he coping?"

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. "What do you mean, that's terrible? Jem seems fine to me. He and Tess-" I broke off abruptly as Jace squeezed my hand. "I don't think they need to know that, Clary."

I stared at my feet, realising the same. But then Will surprised me. "Do Tessa and Jem date in your time? You can tell me. I don't mind," he whispered, suddenly quiet. He cast Tessa a loving look and continued,

"Jem was my parabatai, and I loved him very much. As long as both Tessa and Jem are happy, I don't care if they are together or not."

I smiled softly, "Yes, they are together, and they are very happy, too. They have two children: one of their own, Mina, and one adopted, Kit Herondale".

Will gasped, "Herondale? Jem adopted a Herondale?".

I laughed, "Yes, Herondale. Kit is a descendant of Tobias Herondale. And don't look so surprised. Jem's favourite phrase is 'the Carstairs owe the Herondales'."

A huge grin spread across his face. "The Carstairs does not owe the Herondales in any way. And even if they did, they have long repaid the debt,"

Jace shook his head with mock-seriousness, "Please don't tell him that. I think finding lost Herondales is his life's purpose. It would break his heart to hear that he has no excuse to, anymore." We all had a good laugh over that.

"So," began Tessa, "You both are Shadowhunters, I assume. What are your names? We might know your ancestors."

"I don't know if you'll know, but you most definitely know Jace's", I replied. Jace rolled his eyes while Will and Tessa looked at me inquiringly. "My name is Clary Fairchild, and this is Jace Herondale."

"Another one?! How many descendants do we have?" Will asked, joyfully surprised.

"It's just Kit and me. Kit's mother, the Herondale, didn't stay when he was born. And my parents died by the time I was born. Clary's father raised me, who I thought was Michael Wayland, my father. I only found out about five years ago that my father was Stephen Herondale."

"Complicated history, huh?", Will asked. Jace widened his eyes, "You have no idea. I thought Clary was my sister for a while!" Will gazed at Jace sympathetically, "That must have been terrible." Jace nodded in agreement while Tessa and Clary giggled at their partners' antics. James was still playing with the knives.

"So, I know that it is very unlikely, but do you know any Fairchilds in your time?", I wanted to know. Tessa nodded energetically, "Charlotte Fairchild! You have Henry, her husband's red hair."

It felt giddy knowing that your great-great-grandparents or something were alive, just in a different universe. Speaking of which, "You guys should get back to your time. And take a memory loss potion, so you forget anything happened. I'm sorry, but you can't know the future."

Will glared at me, "And you can know the past?". "Of course! We have history lessons, after all," I replied confusedly. Will looked down abashedly, "Right, sorry. I forgot. We'll get going now. Thank you for the future lesson".

He got up, carrying James, who still had a knife in his hand. This kid loves his knives! Jace plucked it out of his hand and reprimanded, "Aside from the fact that you are a toddler, this is our knife. Technically, they belong to the Institute, but that's beside the point. You don't get to take this."

"Jace, he's a baby. Don't be rude," I scolded him. Jace looked offended, "I don't like it when people steal my weapons, baby or not." I sighed. "Sorry about that," I apologised to James. He didn't care much for it.

The Herondale family, me and Jace walked to the portal. Tessa turn back to say goodbye, "It was nice meeting you both, although it is unlikely we will remember anything. Goodbye." We waved, and Will waved back. The three of them stepped through the portal, and it disappeared as they did.

Jace turned towards me, "Well, that was something. Wanna go get lunch?" I nodded, and we left the Institute, planning to call Simon, Isabelle, Alec and Magnus to tell them all about what had happened.
