Remorse is a distressing emotion experienced by an individual who regrets actions which they have done in the past[1] that they deem to be shameful, hurtful, or wrong. Remorse is closely allied to guilt and self-directed resentment.
The air was colder here than in the main part of Liyue. Viox shivered a bit as a chilly breeze took her form. She had worn a longer sleeved shirt as directed by Mister Zhongli, but she didn't pack a jacket due to the heat. She felt a coat slip over her shoulders as the scent of dirt, paint, and fresh grass hinted at her nose. Viox looked over at Albedo and flushed a little at the fact that his regular shirt was actually a blue tank top that cut off at his shoulders, his arm bands were still attached to his skin, they looked tight against the lean muscles, maybe they happened to be a type of body jewelry that Viox just wasn't familiar with. She pulled his coat over her form more as she pulled her arms through the short sleeves. It wasn't much, but it would keep her upper body to her knees warm. She wasn't sure if Albedo wouldn't get cold.
"How much longer do we have until we reach the Chasm?" Albedo asked towards Zhongli and Xiao
"Not much farther. We have about another hill to climb before we reach the starting point of the cavern. As per stated, Xiao and I will wait at the edge as you two travel within the Mines. They are crawling with monsters, Rhinedottir had a goal in mind when she made this her final spot, be careful and stay low." Zhongli answered as they started another hike upwards.
Viox wasn't sure if she liked the fact that she and Albedo were the only ones going inside the Chasm. She wasn't the bravest of souls when it came to caves, they were dark, wet, moist, and covered in critters that she honestly hoped didn't crawl on her or in her hair. She didn't even think about bringing a tie to pull her hair back. Viox sighed through her nose lightly as they reached the large cavern opening. Viox shivered in fear as she could only see a short distance inside.
Albedo was quick to stop as his face never changed from the blank stare, but it looked as if he was studying the entrance of the area. Viox cleared her throat a little, "Are you alright?" She allowed the concern to carry the tone towards the Golem.
"It's darker here than in most places. The Elemental balance is thrown off. Something darker has taken place here." Albedo answered, now facing Viox
Viox paused, "Should we still continue inside?"
"Yes. I need to know if she lives here." His reply was short.
Viox looked towards the other two in the group, Zhongli stood with his arms crossed as Xiao seemed uninterested. She wasn't sure if she could trust the shorter of the two quite yet due to the fact that she had just barely met him. As Albedo put it, Xiao was an Adeptus for Liyue and looks over a part of it.
"We will give you both time to research as we cover the outside. Stay safe." Zhongli said gently
Viox swallowed thickly as Albedo started to walk inside the opening. She followed a bit after him, wanting to stay at least a bit close. She was glad that there was little light from their visions, which both rested against their necks to help shine a little dull light around as they went deeper into the cave.
It had been a few hours since the two traveled into the deep cave. Viox was a little jump here and there that Albedo could see. She had admitted she was scared about something crawling on her form, but Albedo didn't see a reason to be so scared as she put it, the emotion was not something he understood even after she explained it to him while they took a moment to sit down and eat something. He had a pull towards the middle of the cave that felt like Rhinedottir was here, or was here. Something about the elements being off balanced here was the only odd pressure that Albedo was studying so far. He was as Viox put it, confused by the heavy air.
"Albedo? There's fresh air coming from in front of us. Are we sure that this is a Chasm and not just a tunnel under the ground that leads to the other side?" Viox piped up from behind
Albedo wasn't sure. If there was fresh air, that meant there was an opening to the outside. "It's a possibility." He replied back as he looked behind towards the pink haired woman
"Alright. If Rhinedottir isn't here, I say we turn back and report with Mister Zhongli and Mister Xiao." She said
Albedo nodded, in theory, Rhindottir was here last. He wasn't sure what they would find, but he had an odd suspicion that they would find at least a clue to her next location.
"Look!" Viox called out
Albedo noticed that the road ahead was brighter, as they sped walked to the brighter opening. His eyes took in the large cavern area as it was filled with larger than life creatures and plants alike. All were covered in a thick layer of rock. Encased like life-like statues. Albedo carefully made his way down the steep pathway that clearly was marked out to walk on. He turned and helped Viox down as well, she had some trouble walking down, as she was not used to hiking and such.
"This place looks like something bad happened." Viox commented as she looked around. Her eyes were taking in the stone graveyard.
Albedo agreed without an issue, the place was a zone of pure death. "Keep an eye out for a woman, she will be very tall, and have long hair. Due to all the stone, giving you her details about her skin color, eye color, and such would be a waste." He said
Viox nodded, as she went towards the left of the graveyard. Albedo went towards the right, they would be able to see and hear each other as it wasn't hard to miss the bright pink hair or his blond hair as well.
As he walked along the many stone creatures and plant life, he could feel the bubbling of questions building loudly in his mind. What could have caused this damage? How did this happen? Was Rhinedottir here? Was she buried under the layers of rock? He wasn't sure. His gloved hand reached out and touched one of the statues. That's when some of the dust brushed away under his hand. It wasn't rock, but glass. Amber most likely. It was clear underneath the dust and cobwebs. Albedo brushed more dust away from one creature, it looked as if it was a type of Hilichurl. Less fur around the neck and face, as well as an even thinner state than that of a normal Hilichurl. His eyes peered up to see Viox a few yards away. She was looking over each creature under the layers of dirt. Perhaps they should look together now that he knew that this was Amber-Glass like coating. That's when he saw her dart towards the center. He quickly followed her as they rushed to the center of the cavern.
"What is it?" Albedo asked as they reached the point, the floor here was caved in some what as if the reason that everything here was in their graves, blew here as a bomb of some sort.
"Notice that the creatures have their backs to us. They were running away from whatever caused them to turn into stone." Viox explained
Albedo was impressed by her quick thinking, he didn't even think about that, "It's not stone, it's a type of Amber-glass. Which means there was a large explosion that went off to coat them like this." He explained, reaching down to wipe the dirt off a patch of flooring.
Viox made a noise that Albedo couldn't place the tone of, but he would guess it was a noise of surprise.
"This means it'll be easier to find this woman you are looking for." Viox stated
"Rhinedottir was my Master, or Creator if you will. She was called the Great Sinner when she started making creatures like myself come to life. She created Humus, or Durin, the dragon skeleton that rests around Dragonspine. I also believe she created the Alfisol or the Riftwolves as well. I was her third creation, Cretaceus, better known as Albedo. This is what I know mostly through the books my adopted mother, Alice the Adventure, has told me." Albedo looked at Viox, who looked as if she was hanging onto every word he spoke. He took a moment, "There was a fourth though. If he still exists, this fourth one would be called Primordial. He was the first in a long project to make me. According to my research, he was a failed subject, and was fed to Durin. It is not confirmed if Primordial is Golem or not. If he was, then I assume that after he was fed to Durin, might be the reason he is not here today." Albedo stated.
Viox took a moment before she responded, "Do you…feel remorse for your Creator's actions?" She asked, though she seemed afraid of something
Remorse? The feeling of something one regrets, Albedo knew that definition but not the feeling of it. Could he feel it? Rhinedottir made a lot of horrible mistakes, such as creating Golems and attempting to make them into humans, though they do not act or feel as such. Being born from man was different from being born of Chalk and Gold. "No. I do not feel this at all."
