Revenge is committing a harmful action against a person or group in response to a grievance, be it real[1] or perceived.[2] Francis Bacon described revenge as a kind of "wild justice" that "does... offend the law [and] putteth the law out of office."[3] Primitive justice or retributive justice is often differentiated from more formal and refined forms of justice such as distributive justice and divine judgment.
Viox hated the feeling of revenge, it was one of those emotions where you wanted to feel like you could do anything to get back at someone, and today was one of those days, a week later as she sat next to Albedo on her left side and Klee on her right. She had been on bed rest for only two days before she was well once more. Klee was glad Viox had pulled through and Albedo was just as monotone as ever about Viox's recovery, seeing she was alright and well was enough for the other to go about his research on the Dark Mud that he had collected over in Liyeu Harbor with another Alchemist. This wasn't why she was feeling the urge to have revenge, no, it was the fact that Rei had pulled out the most ugly brown bridesmaid gown for Viox to wear.
Rei was the bride and Viox couldn't really argue with the other about not wearing the dress. It looked like a dirty brown with some dark spots here and there, with huge puffy shoulders and tight long sleeves. The body looked like that of a dirty worm, as it was bunched up like one. Viox had to mask the sheer look of horror that came onto her face as it was placed into her hands five minutes ago.
"You seem…unhappy." Albedo attempted to start up a conversation
Viox could only look at the other, as she plastered a fake smile on her face, "Whatever makes you think I am unhappy? I merely may kill the bride." She whispered in a hush tone as her eyes looked back towards the curtains where Rei was trying on her wedding gown. She needed to make sure if fit for her big day after all.
"Why on Teyvat would you want to do that?" Albedo questioned as he stared at her
Viox sighed, "Well for one, this dress is ugly."
"And two?"
"I don't know yet, I'll tell you when I have one."
Albedo blinked as he sat back in his seat, "I do agree, the dress is a bit…odd in a way. Though I would just ignore it and move on."
Viox rolled her eyes. She honestly couldn't really think about anything but how terrible the dress looked. Though she should just suck it up and deal with it as Albedo stated in a few short words. Viox looked over as Albedo had started sketching again in his art book. She noticed that he was adding a pencil sketch of Klee and the word Nostalgia. Perhaps this was his way of learning emotions his way. Though it did make her curious if he had other sketches with other emotions as well, like happiness, or sadness.
"Well what does everyone think?" Rei asked as she walked out of the dressing room.
Viox's eyes widened as she looked at one of her closest friends sporting their very own white gown. The train was a little ways behind Rei as her sleeves came down to rest on her wrists. The shoulders of the dress were tugged down to rest against Rei's upper arms, as the white gown was covered in lace. Designs of Gaze Lilies were woven in to show off Zhongli's favorite flower with pride. It was tight around the chest area and moved down to a simple, yet flowy skirt.
"Oh Rei…it's so beautiful." Viox said gently as she set her bride's-maid's dress down in her seat and rushed over to her friend. Taking the others' hands in her own.
Rei smiled, her cheeks were flushed, "Thank you. I wanted it to be perfect for next year."
Viox grinned, "It's more than perfect! Mister Zhongli isn't going to be able to keep his eyes off of you! Just imagine you walking down the alse!"
Rei flushed a little, "I'm so glad! Just think in a year, I'll be wedded to him. Now if only we could get you a man." She nudged Viox's arm with her elbow
Viox chuckled, "I'm fine with waiting for the right one to come along. Besides, maybe three months is enough time away from someone that they'll finally notice me a little bit." Her mind floated over to Kaeya for a brief moment before the image faded and her eyes darted over to the Chief Alchemist, who was showing Klee his latest piece.
"Oh yes, definitely not the man sitting right in front of your face hm? Still thinking Kaeya is the one?" Rei teased softly as she too looked over at the blond haired man.
Viox shook her head, "I'm still hopeful that he may like me, even if he just wants to stay friends. Knowing his feelings would be enough." she looked towards the other, "Waiting is a good option for me right now, especially with this whole trip."
Rei frowned a little, she didn't feel bad for Viox no, it was more of she wanted her friend to be able to be happy, even though her happiness was sitting in front of her face, sketching his little sister and unable to feel emotions as strongly as Viox did. Perhaps, it was time to put Rei's plan into action a lot sooner than expected. She sighed softly and hugged Viox tightly, "Alright, if waiting is what you want to do, then wait, but let's go get some lunch and get me outta this dress, I don't want to ruin it!"
Viox giggled lightly at her friend, who merely darted away back into the dressing room.
To say lunch was uneventful was an understatement. When they all sat outside of the Inn, Rei had gone up to her room to pull Zhongli down to eat with the group as Viox and Klee relaxed into their chairs, talking about the Lantern Rite that would be here in less than a month. Albedo on the other hand, had sat down placing his sketchbook on the table as he went about drawing another picture, though this one was the Inn, no emotional correlation attached to it.
"Your art is very beautiful" A quiet voice appeared from in front of Albedo.
He merely looked up to see a young woman with long blonde hair and large purple eyes. She seemed around Viox's age, maybe a little younger. "Thank you." He replied, going back to his sketch.
"Do you often reply to people like that?" The other chuckled as they took the seat that was Rei's
"Normally." Albedo was quick to say
"I'm Alexie Gunner." The woman, now dubbed as Alexie, introduced herself
"I am Albedo, Chief Alchemist of the Ordo Favonius, and Captain of the Researching Team." Albedo stated in his normal monotone way. He wasn't one to have much talk with someone who wasn't already in his small circle, Viox had been the first, though she didn't really want to be. He was merely drawn to her in an artistic way.
"Oh? You're from Mondstadt?" Alexie's voice sounded more higher pitched than earlier
Albedo carefully put down his pencil as he looked at the other, "You seem surprised, I believe that is the correct term for the emotional output you are expressing?"
Alexie chuckled a little, "Yes, I'm surprised that someone from Mondstadt is all the way out here in Liyue. We hardly see anyone from Mondstadt here, especially ones who hold such a lengthy title. You say you're an Alchemist, what kind?"
"Just your run-of-the-mill one. Nothing too special." Albedo cleared his throat a little, "May I ask why you have a sudden interest in discussions?"
"Your art is what drew me over to strike up a small chat." Alexie pointed at the image of the Inn, though it needed a few more spots of shading to be filled.
Albedo looked back at the drawing, "I suppose it is a good way to start up a conversion with someone you do not know."
